Game of the day: Knicks at Grizzlies
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York Knicks at Memphis Grizzlies (-5.5, 192.5)

One night after taking down the top team in the Western Conference, the New York Knicks attempt to do the same against another top club from the Southwest Division when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. These two teams combine for a record of 12-1 SU and ATS to start the season.

New York remained the only unbeaten team in the NBA on Thursday as it overcame a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to post its sixth straight win, a 104-100 victory in San Antonio. The Knicks, who had lost nine consecutive road meetings with the Spurs, ended the contest with a 27-11 run.

The setback by San Antonio made Memphis the only team in the West with just one loss. After dropping their season opener to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Grizzlies have reeled off six consecutive victories, including a 107-97 triumph in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Memphis took a 44-41 lead on a 3-pointer by Quincy Pondexter with 3:45 remaining in the second quarter and did not trail thereafter.

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE KNICKS (6-0, 6-0 ATS): Thursday marked the first time this season New York has allowed 100 points. Its previous low was the 94 scored by Dallas in last Friday's victory. The Knicks, who entered the game first in the league with a 3-point percentage of 42.6, was 11-of-25 from beyond the arc. Friday's contest concludes New York's three-game road trip. It returns home to face Indiana on Sunday before another three-game trek to New Orleans, Dallas and Houston.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (6-1, 6-1 ATS): Memphis is two victories away from matching the longest winning streak in franchise history. The Grizzlies won eight in a row from Jan. 11-25, 2004. The club has won a record 14 straight home games, last losing in its own building on March 16 to Toronto in overtime. It has not lost at home in regulation since Feb. 12 against Utah. The Grizzlies are 5-0 when scoring at least 100 points.

    TRENDS:

    * Over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Memphis.
    * Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
    * Favorite is 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings.

    BUZZER BEATERS:

    1. Grizzlies F Zach Randolph has recorded a double-double in every game this season.

    2. Memphis is just 13-18 in the all-time series.

    3. The clubs also meet at Madison Square Garden on March 27.

Cavs look to end 5-game skid Sunday in Philly

                      CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (2-7)

                      at PHILADELPHIA 76ERS (5-4)

                      Tip-off: Sunday, 6:05 p.m. ET
                      Line: Philadelphia -6.5, Total: 192

The Cavaliers know they will have to play much better defense if they are to stop their five-game losing skid Sunday in Philadelphia.

Cleveland has given up 107.2 PPG on 52% FG during the five-game skid (1-4 ATS), surrendering more than 100 points in each game. However, the 76ers are averaging just 89.2 PPG this season (2nd-fewest in NBA) including 88.6 PPG at home where they are just 2-3 (SU and ATS). Cavs star point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a contusion on his left index finger in Saturday's loss to Dallas, but he is expected to start on Sunday night.

Can the Cavs end their long losing skid on Sunday? For the answer, connect to NBA Best Bets for all the Expert picks throughout the entire 2012-13 season. This season, the experts are a collective 57-46-8 ATS (55%) in NBA Best Bets. ******* Scott is 11-2 ATS (85%) Best Bets in his past nine days, putting him 65% ATS (15-8) Best Bets for the season. ******* Brian is 59% ATS (16-11-3) for the season, with seven straight days of going .500 or better, while ******* Gary's 2-0 ATS mark on Saturday puts him at 58% ATS (7-5-2) Best Bets for the season. For NBA Totals, ******* Scott is 7-1 in the past seven days, boosting his incredible season mark to 20-6 (77%) on NBA Totals.

Cleveland's offense has been carried by Irving, who is averaging 24.4 PPG (5th in NBA) on 48% FG. He's scored 60 points in his past two games, pouring in 26 points in Saturday's 103-95 loss to Dallas. However, the point guard is not running the offense as efficiently as he can, amassing just 21 assists and 18 turnovers over his past four games, including zero assists on Saturday. But for the Cavs to win, the rest of the starters have to shoot the ball better than they did against Dallas (22-for-60 FG, 36.7%). C Anderson Varejao (2-for-11 FG) and SG Dion Waiters (4-of-16 FG) were the two biggest brick-laying culprits, but Varejao has been a monster on the glass (12.9 RPG, 3rd in NBA) this season. He will likely dominate the boards again facing a 76ers team allowing 43.9 RPG (23rd in NBA), showing just how much they miss C Andrew Bynum, who is still out of action with a knee injury.

Philadelphia is shooting a dreadful 37.7% FG in its five home games this season, but had its best offensive showing at home on Friday, scoring 99 points on 46% FG in a six-point win over Utah. The backcourt of Jrue Holiday and Jason Richardson combined for 46 points (17-of-33 FG, 7-of-11 threes), 14 rebounds and nine assists against the Jazz. The point guard Holiday is now averaging 19.1 PPG, 8.6 APG and 4.0 RPG for the season and could have the edge offensively against Irving, whose injury affects his shooting form. SF Thaddeus Young (12.8 PPG, 7.4 RPG) leads the team at 51% FG, but nobody else is shooting well at all. Richardson (11.8 PPG) is at 41% FG, and the other three players scoring at least nine points per game are all under 38% FG -- SF Dorell Wright (10.7 PPG on 33% FG), SF Evan Turner (10.7 PPG on 37% FG) and SG Nick Young (9.1 PPG on 34% FG). Despite the offensive woes, the Sixers allow just 91.3 PPG (3rd-best in NBA).

Bank shots: NBA betting news and notes
                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                          Hottest ATS team

Memphis Grizzlies (8-1 SU, 8-1 ATS)

There’s no team hotter ATS than the Griz, who have covered in eight straight games. Even more impressive is Memphis’ recent string of three consecutive covers against New York, Oklahoma City and Miami. The Grizzlies begin a five-game homestand Monday when they welcome Denver and will put their perfect 4-0 ATS home record on the line.

                          Coldest ATS team

Phoenix Suns (4-7 SU, 2-9 ATS)

The Suns have had a tough schedule to open the season and that’s reflected in their SU and ATS records. Phoenix blew covers against the Heat, Lakers and Bulls this week but gets some much needed time off to regroup before hosting Portland on Wednesday.

                          Hottest over bet

                          Phoenix Suns (4-7 SU, 7-4 over/under)

The Suns have the second-worst defense in the league (104.3 ppg) and rank 14th in offense (98.3 ppg) - a major reason why they’ve been playing over the total early in the season. Phoenix is allowing its opponents to shoot 47.8 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from 3-point range, both close to league-worst marks.

                          Hottest under bet

                          Indiana Pacers (4-6 SU, 2-8 over/under)

The Pacers have played under the total in four consecutive games against Dallas, Milwaukee, Toronto and Washington. The combination of having the best defense in the league (90.3 ppg) and one of the worst offenses (89.3 ppg) has made Indiana a profitable under bet. David West leads the team in scoring, averaging only 15 points per game. With Danny Granger (knee) out for an extended period of time, the Pacers’ scoring woes are likely to continue.

                          Scouting the schedule

-The Brooklyn Nets (3-2-2 ATS) head west for a three-game set that begins Sunday in Sacramento, followed by dates with the Lakers and Golden State this week. The Nets then return home for two tough contests with the Clippers and Blazers.

-The Atlanta Hawks (3-5 ATS) have a chance to gain some serious momentum in the next three weeks. They play seven of their next eight games at home, including two dates with the lowly Wizards. Only one of Atlanta’s next eight opponents (Clippers) currently has a winning record.
