Oh he will get suspended, he did it to the GREAT one.....over hype as I said. Lets see what happens to West, it will prove the point completely.......over rated always gets the call. Hell, in this case even over an MVP. What a Joke.

I don't disagree with your list, but is the 56 game streak ever going to be broken....probably not. So with the numbers make you great theory, how can he not be there?
I agree that the hit streak is unreal, but that alone does not make someone Top 5.

So in his career thus far, James has done something "better then a record that has stood the test of time" to make himself great?

Again, we throw the name GREAT out like it is nothing......that my friend is my problem with the media and fans towards James. As well as what is wrong with sports today.

James is a GREAT player! IMO he's overrated because ESPN and the sports media portray him greater than deserved. Last season they were comparing him to Jordon. Let him win at least one championship or have him put a few great years under his belt before we anoint him the greatest.

Not even close. He doesn't even crack the top-10.

pre-steroids he had a very good career. Pre-steroids he'd never be discussed with the all-time greatest.

Molta how old are you? My guess not very old. Another guess. Outside of Ruth, none of your top-5 baseball players played more than 40 years ago.

                        Ruth
                        Gehrig
                        Dimaggio
                        Ted Williams
                        Mays

Are without any question far great players than Bonds. Those 5 come to mind in less than 5 seconds.

i'm 29. all of my other players would have played over 40 years ago. when a guy wins 7 MVPs, 8 gold gloves, all time HR leader, 500+ steals, on top of the slugging, walks, rbis, etc etc etc, he is definitely in the top 10, and IMO the top 5. the whole steroid thing opens a different can of worms, but base on his body of work (no pun intended), he is among the greats of the greats.

my top 5 would probably include ruth, mays, dimaggio, cobb, and bonds; but i'm sure many arguments for other guys. to leave ted williams off of any list is incredibly tough, so maybe throw him in there. i'm just going off the top of my head.

and regardless of my age, i would put my baseball knowledge up against anyone, although i think its alway risky to quantify the players we havent seen.

IMO Gehrig is the 2nd greatest player behind Ruth.

Prior to 2000 and steroid use no one would put Bonds in their top-10 let alone top-5.

From 2000-2004 (age 35-39) Bonds hit 258 homers. In the previous 7 season, the prime of his career he hit 269 homers. Aaron the previous home run champs hit 203 homers from age 35-39.

Mays hit 123 homers from age 35-39.

One can't leave Williams off their list. He lost 3 full season due the WWII. As did DiMaggio.

If you have Cobb in your top-5 where do you rank Pete Rose. I'm not suggesting Rose is better than Cobb.

IMO when they talk about the greatest ball players they often omit pitchers. There's a handful of pitchers that have to be considered among the greatest.

                                Walter Johnson
                                Cy Young
                                Christy Mathewson
                                Bob Gibson

                                to name a few
