Oh he will get suspended, he did it to the GREAT one.....over hype as I said. Lets see what happens to West, it will prove the point completely.......over rated always gets the call. Hell, in this case even over an MVP. What a Joke.

Originally posted by soonerbudSo Jimmy, love your list, but one question. IF your numbers make you great theory is true. And James is GREAT, how can you leave Dimaggio off your list. His 56 game hit streak will never be broken IMHO, yet you think James is GREAT and he has done nothing even close to as hard as that accomplishment was.......YET you will throw the GREAT tag on him and Dimaggio isn't even in you top 5. I don't disagree with your list, but is the 56 game streak ever going to be broken....probably not. So with the numbers make you great theory, how can he not be there?

Molta how old are you? My guess not very old. Another guess. Outside of Ruth, none of your top-5 baseball players played more than 40 years ago.

i'm 29. all of my other players would have played over 40 years ago. when a guy wins 7 MVPs, 8 gold gloves, all time HR leader, 500+ steals, on top of the slugging, walks, rbis, etc etc etc, he is definitely in the top 10, and IMO the top 5. the whole steroid thing opens a different can of worms, but base on his body of work (no pun intended), he is among the greats of the greats.
my top 5 would probably include ruth, mays, dimaggio, cobb, and bonds; but i'm sure many arguments for other guys. to leave ted williams off of any list is incredibly tough, so maybe throw him in there. i'm just going off the top of my head.
and regardless of my age, i would put my baseball knowledge up against anyone, although i think its alway risky to quantify the players we havent seen.

Prior to 2000 and steroid use no one would put Bonds in their top-10 let alone top-5.
From 2000-2004 (age 35-39) Bonds hit 258 homers. In the previous 7 season, the prime of his career he hit 269 homers. Aaron the previous home run champs hit 203 homers from age 35-39.
Mays hit 123 homers from age 35-39.

If you have Cobb in your top-5 where do you rank Pete Rose. I'm not suggesting Rose is better than Cobb.
