Anthony Davis has big 2nd half, Lakers beat Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Anthony Davis scored 24 of his 33 points in the second half to help the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 130-127 on Friday night.

Davis also had 11 rebounds and seven assists, and LeBron James added 23 points and 14 assists. The Lakers have won six in a row to improve the best record in the NBA to 13-2.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 24 points and Steven Adams added 22 for the Thunder. They have lost five of six.

Los Angeles guard Rajon Rondo was ejected early in the fourth quarter after a kick to Dennis Schroder's groin area.

CLIPPERS 122, ROCKETS 119

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kawhi Leonard hit a go-ahead jumper with 15 seconds remaining to finish with 24 points and lift Los Angeles over Houston.

Russell Westbrook missed at the other end and Paul George got the rebound while getting fouled. He made both free throws with 1 second left to complete a wild finish and help the Clippers improve to 10-1 at home with their fourth win in a row overall.

James Harden couldn't get a shot off on the Rockets' final possession as time expired.

George scored 19 points in his second game playing with Leonard. Lou Williams led the Clippers with 26 - all in the second half. Montrezl Harrell added 18 points.

Harden had 37 points and 12 assists for the Rockets. Russell Westbrook added 22 points before fouling out late, and Clint Capela had 17 points and 19 rebounds.

MAVERICKS 143, CAVALIERS 101

DALLAS (AP) - Luka Doncic had 30 points and 14 assists with former Dallas teammate Dirk Nowitzki watching as a retiree for the first time.

Nowitzki stayed away for the first eight Dallas home games after setting an NBA record of 21 seasons with the same franchise while finishing last season as the highest-scoring foreign-born player in league history. The big German got a standing ovation when shown on the video board in the first quarter from his courtside seat next to owner Mark Cuban.

Rookie Darius Garland scored a career-high 23 points for Cleveland.

NUGGETS 96, CELTICS 92

DENVER (AP) - Jamal Murray hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining and scored 22 points and the Denver beat Boston in a game overshadowed by a head injury to Celtics guard Kemba Walker.

Walker collided with teammate Semi Ojeleye late in the second quarter, striking Ojeleye's abdomen area head-first and going down on to the court in a heap. In a tweet, the Celtics said Walker has been diagnosed with concussion-like symptoms and was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Nikola Jokic added 18 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists for the Nuggets. They improved to 8-0 this season when holding an opponent to fewer than 100 points.

Jaylen Brown had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics.

76ERS 115, SPURS 104

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Tobias Harris scored 26 points, Joel Embiid had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Philadelphia handed San Antonio its eighth straight loss - the Spurs' longest under longtime coach Gregg Popovich.

Ben Simmons had a triple-double with 10 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for the 76ers.

San Antonio last dropped eight in a row in November 1996 under coach Bob Hill. Popovich was the team's general manager at the time. He fired Hill later that season and began his long run of success.

DeMar DeRozan had 29 points for the Spurs.

JAZZ 113, WARRIORS 109

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 30 points and Mike Conley had 27 to help Utah beat undermanned Golden State.

About 15 minutes after the game ended, the arena was evacuated because of a suspicious package. Most fans had already left the building when players, coaches and reporters were instructed to leave immediately.

Jazz players quickly headed for their cars in the parking lot - center Rudy Gobert was still in uniform as he left. Warriors players boarded their team bus.

Salt Lake City police Lt. Carlos Valencia said the suspicious package was a shoebox discovered under a table at a restaurant in the northeast corner of the arena. He said the call came in from a uniformed officer working part-time at the game, and the sellout crowd was already starting to leave when the evacuation began.

Arena bomb dogs went near the package and got a hit on it, Valencia said.

Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 points for the Jazz, and Gobert had 19 rebounds and seven blocks. Alec Burks scored 20 points for the Warriors.

PISTONS 128, HAWKS 103

DETROIT (AP) - Andre Drummond had 23 points and 15 rebounds and Detroit had its highest-scoring first half since 1983.

Detroit led 76-57 at halftime, and the Pistons reached 100 points with over 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter. t was the most points in the first half for the Pistons since they scored 77 on Dec. 2, 1983, also against the Hawks.

Atlanta has dropped five straight, and the Hawks allowed at least 120 points for the eighth game in a row.

Blake Griffin scored 24 points. DeAndre' Bembry led Atlanta with 22 points.

WIZARDS 125, HORNETS 118

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bradley Beal had 30 points and 12 assists, Thomas Bryant added 21 points and 11 rebounds and Washington overcame a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Charlotte.

Davis Bertans had 20 points, hitting six 3-pointers to help the Wizards win two in a row for the first time this season.

Miles Bridges scored a career-high 31 points for Charlotte.

HEAT 116, BULLS 108

CHICAGO (AP) - Jimmy Butler had 27 points against his former team and Miami beat Chicago for its fifth straight victory.

Butler played for the Bulls from 2011-17. He was 7 of 10 from the field and had seven assists and five rebounds. Bam Adebayo added 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Kendrick Nunn scored 13 of his 21 points in the first quarter to help Miami improve to 11-3.

Zach Lavine led the Bulls with 15 points.

NETS 116, KINGS 97

NEW YORK (AP) - Spencer Dinwiddie scored 23 points and Joe Harris added 22 in Brooklyn's victory over Sacramento.

Garrett Temple finished with 18 points, Jared Allen had 11 points and nine rebounds, and DeAndre Jordan added 10 rebounds.

Harrison Barnes led the Kings with 18 points. Buddy Hield had 16.

13) Xavier 75, UConn 74 2OT— Best college hoop game of the young season; six guys fouled out, three for both teams, who will be Big East rivals starting next season.

Xavier won despite going 16-26 on foul line; UConn was 25-27.

Musketeers will play Florida in the finals of the Charleston Classic Sunday night.

12) Duke 81, Georgetown 73— It is usually pretty fun to watch a coach go against Duke for the first time, how he handles getting screwed over in key situations. Patrick Ewing was a great player, but he is a young coach, and he didn’t enjoy this game very much.

Duke was 21-29 on the foul line, Georgetown 11-18. Go figure.

11) Temple 70, USC 61— Nice win for the AAC, and Temple’s rookie coach Aaron McKie.

10) Clippers 122, Rockets 119— Wouldn’t mind if these teams hooked up for a best-of-7 playoff series next spring. Lou Williams scored 26 points in the 2nd half, after not scoring in the first.

9) Myrtle Beach tournament:
— Villanova beat Mississippi State 83-76. High level game.
— Baylor beat Coastal Carolina 77-65; Coastal’s best guard hurt his knee in this game.

Villanova-Baylor is an interesting game Sunday, in the tournament final.

8) Utah State 80, LSU 78— Aggies were down 19 with 16:32 left; big win for the Mountain West Conference, which could use some quality wins.

7) NFL stuff:
— Bears’ QB Mitchell Trubisky will start Sunday.
— Lions’ QB Matthew Stafford (back) will miss his 3rd straight game.

6) Seattle Mariners agreed to a six-year, $24M contract with first baseman/prospect Evan White, who spent last season with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, where he hit 18 HRs with 55 RBI in 92 games last year.

White is the first player ever at the AA level to get a long-term extension.

5) White Sox gave 1B/DH Jose Abreu a 3-year, $50M contract extension; somehow Abreu will make less money than C Yasmani Grandal, who signed with the Pale Hose this week, getting $73M for four years.

STARTING QUICK

Both the Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled defensively early in games with Portland coming off a game in which it surrendered 72 first half points to Milwaukee, and Cleveland allowing 68.3 over their last three games. Although neither team is lighting up the scoreboard in the first half, when these two teams meet, the average score at halftime over the last three matchups has been 64-52 in favor of the Trail Blazers. Expect another higher scoring first half and bet Over the first half total of 108.

PLAYING SHORTHANDED

The lowest game total of the night is 201.5 in Indiana as the Orlando Magic head to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to take on the Pacers. Orlando will be shorthanded for this one with Nikola Vucevic, Michael Carter-Williams and Aaron Gordon all out. The Pacers on the other hand have good news on the injury front as Jeremy Lamb and T.J. McConnell are upgraded to probable to play in today's contest.

Additionally, Orlando has struggled on the road this season losing all five games (1-4 ATS). The Magic have also struggled in the head-to-head versus the Pacers posting a 4-16 record in the last 20 meetings. With Orlando lacking key playmakers, bet Indiana to cover the 6.5-point spread at home.

BOUNCE-BACK EFFORT

The San Antonio Spurs are playing the tail end of a back-to-back after losing big on the road to the 76ers last night. Today, they are 2-point road favorites as they travel to New York to take on the 4-11 Knicks.

The Spurs have been able to score points, but have struggled with defense all season long surrendering an average of 116.1 points per game on 48.1 percent shooting. We like betting New York's RJ Barrett to put up big shooting numbers versus a Spurs team struggling to defend opposing shooting guards allowing 24.1 points on 49.4 percent shooting from the floor to that position. Bet Over Barrett's points total of 14.5.

EMPHASIS ON DEFENSE

The Miami Heat are 5-point underdogs as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers in what will be Jimmy Butler's first game in Philly since leaving for Miami in the offseason. Both teams rank in the top ten in opponent points per game with Miami surrendering 104, and the 76ers only 99.8 on their home court.

Miami is shooting the highest field goal percentage in the Association at 48.3 percent, and the 76ersaren’t far behind in fifth at 47.2. Although they have been very efficient, both teams play at a slower pace - ranked 15th and 16th, and have excelled on the defensive end. Bet Under the game total of 213.

The Utah Jazz host the New Orleans Pelicans as 7.5-point home favorites tonight. The Pels enter hot winning three straight games and have covered the spread in six of their last seven, but are in a difficult matchup versus a Jazz squad who have won seven of their first eight home games (3-5 ATS).

The Pelicans have been the worst team in the Association at defending opposing point guards allowing 29.2 points per game on 46.7 percent shooting, along with 6.5 boards and 9.4 dimes. Utah's Mike Conley is averaging 30.7 minutes a game, and although his shooting percentage is down under 40 percent this year, he is still shooting very well from beyond the arc and attempting 13.4 field goals a game. Look for a productive night out of Conley and bet Over his points, rebounds, assists total of 26.5.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) LeBron James scored on a driving layup with 1:30 left to put the Los Angeles ahead to stay as the Lakers held off the Memphis Grizzlies 109-108 Saturday night for their seventh straight victory.

The Grizzlies had a final chance with the ball and 1.3 seconds left. Jaren Jackson Jr. went sprawling trying to corral Kyle Anderson's pass inbounding the ball.

James finished with 30 points. Anthony Davis added 22, Rajon Rondo had 14, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 12 and Dwight Howard had 10.

Rookie Ja Morant led Memphis with 26 points. Jae Crowder added 21, Jackson finished with 20, Dillon Brooks had 12 and Anderson scored 10.

BUCKS 104, PISTONS 90

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points and 10 rebounds for his 16th consecutive double-double to help Milwaukee beat Detroit, the Bucks' seventh straight victory.

Wesley Mathews added 13 points and Eric Bledsoe scored 11 for the Bucks, who improved their record to an Eastern Conference best 13-3.

Derrick Rose had 20 points, Langston Galloway had 13, and Andre Drummond had 12 points and 17 rebounds for Detroit, which played without Blake Griffin.

Antetokounmpo is the first player to open the season with 16 consecutive double-doubles since Moses Malone did it with the Houston Rockets in 1981.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Josh Richardson scored 32 points and Philadelphia led from start to finish over Jimmy Butler and Miami.

Joel Embiid added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the 76ers, who won their fourth straight overall while improving to 7-0 at home.

Butler struggled to 11 points, missing nine of 13 field goal attempts in his return to Philadelphia. He sat out the entire fourth quarter.

Tyler Herro had 20 points to pace the Heat, who had won five in a row.

SUNS 100, TIMBERWOLVES 98

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Devin Booker had 35 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and Phoenix beat Minnesota in a matchup of short-handed teams.

Kelly Oubre Jr. added 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Suns, who had lost three in a row.

Phoenix was clinging to a 98-95 lead when Minnesota star Karl-Anthony Towns missed a 3-pointer with 9.2 seconds left from just inside the half-court line. Booker went to the line and iced the game with a pair of free throws.

Towns had 31 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost four of five. Keita Bates-Diop scored a career-high 22 points, and Andrew Wiggins added 21.

PACERS 111, MAGIC 106

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Domantas Sabonis scored 25 points, Aaron Holiday hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 8.7 seconds left, and Indiana beat Orlando.

Holiday, who finished with 13 points, had missed three other attempts from beyond the arc before breaking a 106-all tie. After his big shot, brother Justin Holiday stole the inbounds pass, was fouled and hit both free throws with 3.6 seconds remaining.

The Pacers have won six of seven at home and 11 of their past 13 against the Magic, who are winless in six road games.

Evan Fournier scored 26 points and Jonathan Isaac had 25 for the Magic.

BULLS 116, HORNETS 115

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Zach LaVine had a career-high 49 points, including the winning 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to give Chicago the win over Charlotte.

LaVine, who questioned his relationship with coach Jim Boylen the previous night, shot 17 for 28 from the field - including 13 for 17 on 3s to tie an NBA record. Only Golden State's Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had previously made 13 from beyond the arc in an NBA game.

Rookie Coby White added 28 points for the Bulls.

Terry Rozier III had 28 points for Charlotte. Marvin Williams scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half.

SPURS 111, KNICKS 104

NEW YORK (AP) - LaMarcus Aldridge scored 23 points and San Antonio snapped its longest losing streak under coach Gregg Popovich at eight games by beating New York.

The Spurs never trailed, led by as many as 28 and looked like the kind of team Popovich has usually had, not this one that has been one of the NBA's worst defensively.

DeMar DeRozan added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who came in yielding 116.1 points per game but held the Knicks under 100 until the final 10 seconds of the game.

Marcus Morris scored 20 points for the Knicks.

RAPTORS 119, HAWKS 116

ATLANTA (AP) - Pascal Siakam scored 34 points and Fred VanVleet had 25, helping Toronto beat Trae Young and Atlanta.

Siakam has scored at least 30 in six games, one more than he had last season.

Norman Powell added 20 points for Toronto, which earned its third straight win.

Young had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in his second career triple-double, but Atlanta dropped its sixth straight game. The dynamic second-year guard hit two 3-pointers from 30-plus feet.

CAVALIERS 110, TRAIL BLAZERS 104

CLEVELAND (AP) - Jordan Clarkson made all six of his 3-point attempts and scored 28 points, and Cleveland ended a six-game losing streak by beating Portland.

Tristan Thompson scored 25 points while Larry Nance Jr., who replaced the injured Kevin Love in the starting lineup, had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Love, Cleveland's leading scorer, missed his second game this week because of a sore back.

Damian Lillard returned after missing two games because of back spasms and scored 23 points, but Portland dropped to 5-12 and is 2-10 this month.

JAZZ 128, PELICANS 120

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored a season-high 37 points and Bojan Bogdanovic added 28 to help Utah overcome the absence of Rudy Gobert and outlast New Orleans.

Mitchell, who had six 3-pointers, sparked the Jazz to a quick start and Utah led the entire game.

Brandon Ingram scored 33 points for the Pelicans, and Jrue Holiday had 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter. JJ Redick added 20 points for New Orleans.

13) Ohio State 28, Penn State 17— Buckeye coach Ryan Day was complaining at halftime because his team (which was up 14-0) wasn’t up 34-0. Wonder how his mood was when Penn State closed the gap to 21-17.

Buckeyes outgained Penn State 417-227; playing in a competitive game should help them down the road. Nittany Lions got a 3rd quarter boost from freshman backup QB Will Lewis, but they came up short.

Penn State coach James Franklin is 54-23 in Happy Valley, 33-18 in conference games, 2-3 in bowls; before that, he was 24-15 in three years at Vanderbilt, 11-13 in SEC games, 2-1 in bowl games. Winning at Vanderbilt is no small feat.

12) Florida International 30, Miami 24— Panthers become bowl eligible with this stunning upset, which happened at Marlins’ Park, which was built on the spot where the old Orange Bowl used to be. The Orange Bowl was Miami’s home stadium.

Former Miami coach Butch Davis is FIU’s coach; all of FIU’s players probably grew up wanting to play for Miami. Hard to underestimate how much this win means for the FIU program.

11) USC 52, UCLA 35— Trojans finish their regular season 8-4 after using three different QB’s due to injuries; the kid who emerges as the #1 QB is a true freshman who threw for 515 yards and four TD’s. The new USC athletic director has an interesting decision; do you bring in a new coach, or give Clay Helton another chance?

To be clear here, lot of rich boosters aren’t all that excited by an 8-4 record.

10) Arizona State 31, Oregon 28— Sun Devils become bowl eligible while they knock Oregon out of the national title picture. In his two years at ASU, Herm Edwards is 2-7 ATS when ASU is favored, 8-4 when they’re the underdog.

9) SouthPoint Casino in Las Vegas has a fun prop bet every week; which team will score the first touchdown of the day? Lowly UConn (25-1) was this week’s winner.

It is embarrassing to brag that you’re the best league in the country, then play I-AA teams the week before Thanksgiving. There are plenty of bad I-A teams (UMass, New Mexico State, MAC, Sun Belt teams) who could use a payday. Charging people to watch Alabama play a I-AA team is theft.

In the ACC, North Carolina/Virginia also played I-AA teams this week. Not good.

1) Arkansas State 38, Georgia Southern 33— Great coaching job this season by ASU coach Blake Anderson, whose wife passed away just before this season started. Red Wolves are 7-4 and will go to a bowl, putting a cap on what has had to be a very emotional season.

HOUSTON (AP) Luka Doncic scored 41 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added a season-high 31 and the Dallas Mavericks never trailed in a 137-123 victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday.

The Mavericks scored 45 points in the first quarter and were up 78-60 at halftime. Hardaway had 19 in the half, Doncic 17 and Kristaps Porzingis 15.

The Mavericks has won five straight, scoring at least 137 in the last three. Houston has lost three straight after winning eight in a row.

James Harden had 32 points for Houston but was just 2 of 15 on 3-pointers in a game where the Rockets made 10 of 44 3-point attempts.

CLIPPERS 134, PELICANS 109

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Montrezl Harrell tied a career-high with 34 points and had 12 rebounds, Kawhi Leonard added 26 points and Los Angeles beat New Orleans for its fifth straight victory.

Lou Williams added 19 points and Paul George had 18. The Clippers had 16 3-pointers with George making six.

Brandon Ingram, one of three Lakers players involved in the Anthony Davis trade, led New Orleans with 24 points and eight rebounds in his first game back at Staples Center. Jrue Holiday scored 18 points, and E'Twaun Moore had 17.

NETS 103, KNICKS 101

NEW YORK (AP) - Spencer Dinwiddie scored 30 points in another strong start in place of the injured Kyrie Irving and Brooklyn beat New York for its season-high third straight victory.

Irving continues to rest an injured right shoulder, and Dinwiddie is making sure they get by without him, scoring 20 or more points in a career-best five straight games after stepping into the starting lineup. He was 13 of 14 from the foul line, where the Nets had a whopping 27-9 advantage in makes.

Jarrett Allen had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets. Marcus Morris scored 26 points for the Knicks.

NUGGETS 116, SUNS 104

DENVER (AP) - Paul Millsap scored 23 points and Jamal Murray and Will Barton had 22 apiece in Denver's victory over Phoenix.

Nikola Jokic had just eight points, but grabbed 13 rebounds to help Denver win its fifth in a row.

The Nuggets held Phoenix guard Devin Booker to a season-low 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Booker came in averaging 26.2 points in November.

Cheick Diallo led Phoenix with a career-high 22 points. Dario Saric had a career-high 17 rebounds to go with 18 points.

KINGS 113, WIZARDS 106

WASHINGTON (AP) - Harrison Barnes matched his season high with 26 points on 7-of-8 shooting, Bojan Bogdanovic had 21 points and Sacramento beat Washington.

Buddy Hield added 18 points, including a late 3-pointer that put Sacramento's lead at multiple possessions for good, and Richaun Holmes had 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Kings won for the seventh time in 10 games to improve to 7-8.

Bradley Beal led Washington with 20 points, ending his string of 30 or more at a career-best five games.
