      NBA BETTING BONUSES UP!

It's an interesting mix of games on the NBA board tonight, as there are teams many talked about as legitimate title contenders at the beginning of the season in some potential slip up spots. Philadelphia and Boston are both laying chalk on the road to a far worse team, while teams like Houston and the LA Lakers are laying points at home against talented, scrappy teams that are a bit shorthanded at the moment. I'd venture a guess that not all four of those favorites will bring home the ATS money tonight, but there are two of those games I would like to focus on.

Philadelphia at Oklahoma City (8:05 p.m. ET)

      Best Bet #1: Philadelphia (-3.5)

I can see why this game may get some “trap” responses as the initial glance at it suggests it is a little short and might not be the best spot to back the 76ers. Philly's only on a 2-4 SU run in their last six as it is, as questions about how good this team actually is this year are starting to dominate more and more conversation about this team. Scraping by Cleveland and losing to Orlando don't exactly do anything to strengthen the argument that Philly is actually as good as many believed preseason, but this team is much better then they've showed in recent weeks.

I am one of those that does believe Philly's got a great shot to get out of the Eastern Conference this year, they've just got to find out the best ways their team works during the regular season. Because of that – and injury issues with stars missing games – Philly's not going to be the most consistence bunch, at least in my eyes, until probably after the All-Star break when they really start to get comfortable in their 2019 skin. This team had significant roster turnover this year too, and that's always going to add in a few more bumps in the road. Losing in a 2nd half collapse vs Orlando last time out was just one of those bumps, and given who they've got tonight, I doubt there will be multiple bumps in a row for Philly to deal with this week.

So if this line is a trap, I'm trapped, because I do not believe OKC is really any good at all this year. Yes, the Thunder have had some good performances at home at times this year in losing to Milwaukee by a single bucket and owning a winning record at home so far this year, but I doubt it's long before that changes. Two of their four home wins have come against the injury-blasted Golden State Warriors, while the other two came against Orlando and New Orleans, two teams who aren't expected to do much either.

In my eyes, Philly is a team you'll make more money betting against then on this year because they will more often be priced like an elite team but not show that they are on a nightly basis. But after a dismal performance like the one they had vs the Magic, you can get spots like this where a bounce back is lightly, and the number is probably a full possession short.

      Sacramento at L.A. Lakers (10:35 p.m. ET)

Best Bet #2: Sacramento Kings (+10.5)

The Lakers got caught laying a dud a few games ago when they lost by 9 as double digit home favorites to an injury-depleted Raptors team. With all the roster turnover they've had in recent months, there were always going to be growing pains days like that for this organization as well. But after two sound performances after that that saw LA win both SU and ATS, this is a game where at least the point spread victory for LA should come into question.

For one, LA closed as a -9 favorite vs the Warriors just a few days ago, and now they are hosting a Sacramento team that's much better then that, and laying a bigger number? Yes, I know that the Kings will be without Fox and Bagley tonight – both huge losses – but the rest of this roster is still multiple points better then whatever Golden State is throwing together as a starting five these days.

Furthermore, the Kings have been playing some decent basketball as of late, going 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall. The losses of guys who are hurt as forced Sacramento to play a much more team oriented game and the ball movement offensively has been great to watch. Not having that guy or two to key on late in possessions or late in games is obviously a knock for the team missing that talent, but what it does on the other side of things is it doesn't allow the opposing defense to double guys or shade defenses a certain way, assuming the ball will end up in Player X or Player Y's hands. When everyone on the floor is capable of knocking down open looks, that's a very tough attack to slow down.

Talent on the Lakers side will likely win out in the end in terms of the outright result tonight, but Sacramento's still got enough talent out there to keep this one close if they play as a unit. I believe they will for the majority of this game given that's what they've done each time out on the floor as of late, and they'll keep this game within single digits.

        • Malik Monk hits 3 at buzzer, Hornets top Pistons 109-106
          November 15, 2019
          By The Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) James Harden scored 44 points and the Houston Rockets used a big fourth quarter run to beat the Indiana Pacers 111-102 on Friday night.

Houston has won a season-high six games in a row and Harden has scored 36 points or more in five straight games to carry the Rockets as they deal with injuries to Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and Danuel House.

Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Indiana, and Doug and McDermott also scored 18 points. Indiana had won four in a row.

          LAKERS 99, KINGS 97

LOS ANGELES (AP) - LeBron James hit two free throws with 5.5 seconds to play, and Anthony Davis blocked Harrison Barnes' driving shot at the buzzer with both hands in Los Angeles' 10th win in 11 games, over former coach Luke Walton and Sacramento.

James had 29 points and 11 assists, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter of the Western Conference-leading Lakers' third straight win.

Davis scored 17 points and Alex Caruso scored a season-high 10 points for the Lakers.

Buddy Hield had 21 points and eight rebounds, and Bogdan Bogdanovic added 18 points for the Kings in the L.A. return of Walton, who was fired by the Lakers last April after presiding over three consecutive losing seasons.

          CELTICS 105, WARRIORS 100

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Jayson Tatum dunked after a jump ball with 1:36 left to put Boston ahead, and the Celtics held off the undermanned Golden State for their 10th straight win since losing the season opener.

D'Angelo Russell had 12 points and seven assists but also nine of his team's 19 turnovers before leaving with a sprained right thumb in the Warriors' sixth straight defeat. Alec Burks scored 20 points off the bench, making 11 of 12 free throws.

Jaylen Brown had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Tatum overcame a slow start to score 24 points for the Celtics, who lost Oct. 23 at Philadelphia to start the season before beginning its longest winning streak since 2017.

          HORNETS 109, PISTONS 106

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Malik Monk hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Charlotte past Detroit.

After Detroit's Derrick Rose drove the lane and awkwardly threw the ball away with a second left, Charlotte got it at midcourt. Following a timeout, the Hornets threw several screens, with Monk flying around one near the top of the key. He caught a pass from Cody Martin and launched the winner.

Monk finished with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting to help the Hornets snap a four-game losing streak. Terry Rozier added 19 points, and Devonte Graham had 18 points and 10 assists.

Langston Galloway had a career-high 32 points on seven 3-pointers for Detroit. Andre Drummond added 16 points and 20 rebounds, and Blake Griffin had 19 points after missing three games with left hamstring and posterior knee soreness.

The Pistons have lost four straight.

          THUNDER 127, 76RES 119, OT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Danilo Gallinari scored 28 points to help Oklahoma City outlast Philadelphia in overtime.

Chris Paul had 27 points for the Thunder, who had dropped three of four. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 24 points, and Terrance Ferguson finished with 19.

It was the biggest win of the season for a Thunder franchise that lost All-Stars Russell Westbrook and Paul George in offseason trades. The crowd roared in the fourth quarter and overtime and made it seem, for a night, like nothing had changed.

Joel Embiid had 31 points and 12 rebounds, and Josh Richardson added 28 points for the 76ers.

          WIZARDS 137, TIMBERWOLVES 116

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Bradley Beal scored 44 points for the second straight game and Washington snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory over short-handed Minnesota.

Moritz Wagner came off the bench for Washington to add 30 points and 15 rebounds - both career highs. Wagner also drew three charges to help spark the Wizards' defense in the first half.

Karl-Anthony Towns, celebrating his 24th birthday, led the Timberwolves with 36 points. Minnesota was without scoring leader Andrew Wiggins because of personal reasons.

          GRIZZLIES 107, JAZZ 106

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Ja Morant scored 25 points, including the go-ahead basket with 1:32 remaining, Dillon Brooks added 20 points and Memphis beat Utah, spoiling the return of former Grizzlies guard Mike Conley.

Morant's inside basket gave Memphis a 107-105 lead. Utah's Rudy Gobert split a pair of free throws with 53 seconds left and both teams missed shots down the stretch.

Utah had one last chance when the ball was inbounded to Donovan Mitchell with two seconds left. But as Mitchell turned, Solomon Hill stripped the ball away, giving Memphis its third straight win.

The game marked the return of Conley, the long-time Memphis guard who spent his entire career with the Grizzlies until a trade to Utah over the summer. While there was plenty of admiration from his former fan base, Conley struggled, scoring 15 points on 5-for-19 shooting from the field.

Mitchell led the Jazz with 29 points and nine rebounds. Gobert had 23 points and 17 rebounds, while Bojan Bogdanovic added 20 points.

          MAGIC 111, SPURS 109

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Evan Fournier scored 26 points, hitting two late 3-pointers, and Orlando handed San Antonio its fourth straight loss.

Terrence Ross had 10 of his season-high 20 points in the fourth quarter. DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points for the Spurs.

            • Georgia at Auburn
              November 15, 2019
              By Brian Edwards

No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 12 Auburn Tigers
              Venue/Location: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, Alabama
              Time/TV: Saturday, Nov. 16, 3:30 p.m. ET
              Line: Georgia -3, Total 41.5

All eyes from across the nation Saturday will be on Jordan-Hare Stadium, where Auburn will play host to Georgia in a crucial contest with College Football Playoff ramifications for a slew of schools from Oregon to Utah and beyond. In fact, Auburn’s bitter in-state rival, Alabama, needs the Tigers to win as much as anyone.

As of late Friday afternoon, most books had Georgia (8-1 straight up, 5-4 against the spread) installed as a three-point road favorite with a total of 41. The Tigers were +130 on the money line.

UGA is ranked fourth in the latest CFP rankings, one spot ahead of Alabama. The Bulldogs are 2-0 both SU and ATS on the road. Kirby Smart’s club won 30-6 at Vanderbilt in its season opener, and it won 43-14 at Tennessee back on Oct. 5.

Georgia has won three consecutive games since suffering its lone defeat to South Carolina. The Gamecocks went into Athens as 21-point underdogs on Oct. 12 and won a 20-17 decision in double overtime. Since then, UGA has won vs. Kentucky (21-0), vs. Florida (24-17 in Jacksonville) and vs. Missouri (27-0).

Junior QB Jake Fromm carried his team to victory against the Gators, who stuffed Georgia’s ground attack (holding the Bulldogs to 3.2 yards per carry on 37 attempts) but couldn’t buy a stop on third down. Thanks to his poise in the pocket and an outstanding effort from his offensive line, Fromm helped the Bulldogs convert 12-of-18 third-down attempts.

The Houston County HS product from Warner Robbins, GA., completed 20-of-30 passes for 279 yards and two TDs without an interception vs. UF. Lawrence Cager hauled in seven receptions for 132 yards and one TD.

Smart’s team caught a big break last week when Missouri senior QB Kelly Bryant was unable to play between the hedges due to a hamstring injury. The UGA defense limited Mizzou to 198 yards of total offense, and the Bulldogs won 27-0 as 19-point home ‘chalk.’

Fromm completed 13-of-29 passes for 173 yards and two TDs without an interception. Cager had six catches for 93 yards, while George Pickens had five receptions for 67 yards and two TDs. D’Andre Swift ran for 83 yards on 12 totes.

For the season, Fromm has connected on 67.0 percent of his passes for 1,858 yards with a 13/3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Fromm hasn’t thrown an interception to anyone not named Israel Mukuamu, the South Carolina cornerback who picked Fromm off three times.

Cager has 32 receptions for 470 yards and four TDs, while Pickens has 29 catches for 389 yards and four TDs. Demetris Robertson has caught 20 balls for 229 yards and three TDs, and Dominick Blaylock has 12 grabs for 209 yards and two TDs.

Swift has 921 rushing yards, seven TDs and a 6.3 yards-per-carry average. Brian Herrien has run for 366 yards and five TDs, averaging 5.2 YPC.

Georgia is ranked fifth in the nation in total defense, 17th at defending the pass, fourth in run defense and second in scoring ‘D,’ allowing merely 10.1 points per game.

Auburn (7-2 SU, 7-2 ATS) is unbeaten in four home games with a 3-1 spread record this year. Gus Malzahn’s club is off a 20-14 non-covering home win over Ole Miss as a 17-point favorite. The Tigers were off last week and have had two weeks to prepare for the Bulldogs.

They enjoyed a healthy 507-266 advantage over the Rebels in total offense, but kicker Anders Carlson missed three field goals. True freshman QB Bo Nix completed 30-of-44 passes for 340 yards, and he also ran for a TD. Another true freshman, RB D.J. Williams, ran for 93 yards and one score on 24 carries. Anthony Schwartz had nine catches for 89 yards.

Auburn started the season 5-0 both SU and ATS, producing quality wins vs. Oregon (27-21 at Jerry World in Arlington, TX.), vs. Tulane (24-6) and at Texas A&M (28-20). The Tigers forced four turnovers and stopped a fake punt at Florida on Oct. 5, but Nix threw three interceptions and the Gators handed them their first defeat by a 24-13 count.

Auburn’s only other loss came at unbeaten and top-ranked LSU, which won 23-20 but failed to cover the number as an 11.5-point home favorite. The biggest lead of the game either way was four points until Joe Burrow scored on a seven-yard TD scamper with 13:29 remaining. Auburn trimmed the deficit to three when Nix found Seth Williams for a five-yard scoring strike with 2:32 left, but the Bayou Bengals didn’t give the ball back the rest of the way.

Nix has been up and down, which is to be expected from any true freshman starting at QB in the SEC. He’s been better at home, throwing four TD passes without an interception. For the season, Nix has completed 56.5 percent of his throws for 1,798 yards with a 12/6 TD-INT ratio. His stats – 214 rushing yards and five TDs with a 3.1 YPC average – don’t necessarily reflect it, but Nix has speed and can make plays with his legs.

JaTarvious Whitlow was second in the SEC in rushing yards when he injured his knee at Florida. He hasn’t played since then, but he might return vs. UGA. Whitlow, who has a team-best 553 rushing yards, seven TDs and a 4.9 YPC average, is listed as ‘questionable.’

Williams has played in only four games, but he’s taken advantage of that playing time. He had 130 rushing yards on just 13 carries at LSU. Williams has 303 rushing yards, one TD and a 5.5 YPC average.

Nix’s favorite target is WR Seth Williams, who has 35 receptions for 569 yards and eight TDs. Schwartz has 23 catches for 305 yards and one TD, while Eli Stove has caught 27 balls for 247 yards and two TDs. Schwartz also get touches on some gadget plays, rushing for 112 yards and two TDs on eight carries.

Auburn is ranked 28th in the country in total defense, 20th at stopping the run and 13th in scoring ‘D’ (17.4 PPG). The Tigers have two of the country’s top pass rushers in Marlon Davidson and Derrick Brown. Davidson missed the Ole Miss game with a lower-back injury and is listed as ‘questionable,’ but he’s undoubtedly going to give it a go Saturday. It’s just a matter of how long he can last.

Davidson has 34 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, three QB hurries and two forced fumbles. Brown has 37 tackles, four sacks, four TFL’s, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three passes broken up and one QB hurry.

Auburn’s leading tackler, senior safety Jeremiah Dinson, is also listed as ‘questionable’ after sitting out the win over Ole Miss due to an undisclosed injury. Dinson has produced 61 tackles, 2.5 TFL’s, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one PBU.

Georgia starting OG Justin Shaffer is ‘questionable’ with a neck injury. He has missed three consecutive games. Another starter, sophomore CB Tyson Campbell, is listed as ‘questionable’ with a toe injury.

This rivalry doesn’t need any extra vitriol, but it’s certainly there this year. Georgia won a 27-10 decision over Auburn as a 13.5-point home favorite last season. The bigger story, however, at least from the Auburn point of view, was how UGA faked a field goal up by 17 late in the fourth quarter.

It didn’t sit well with players on the Auburn squad, and it’s been a talking point on The Plains all week long. They think it was a disrespectful decision on Smart’s part, and it’s a driving force for the Tigers in their quest for revenge this weekend.

Fromm completed 13-of-20 passes for 193 yards and two TDs with one interception in the 27-10 triumph. Swift ran for 186 yards and one TD on 17 carries.

When these teams met at Auburn in 2017, the Tigers blasted the Bulldogs 40-17 as 2.5-point home underdogs. Kerryon Johnson was the catalyst with 233 yards from scrimmage (167 rushing, 66 receiving). However, Johnson wasn’t 100 percent healthy three weeks later at the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, where UGA exacted revenge in a 28-7 victory.

The ‘under’ is 5-4 overall for the Tigers, 3-2 in their home games. Their games have averaged combined scores of 50.1 PPG. This is Auburn’s lowest total of the year. The previous high was 47 in a 56-23 home win over Mississippi St.

The ‘under’ is 7-2 overall for UGA, 1-1 in its two road assignments. The Bulldogs have seen the ‘under’ cash in four straight games and six of their past seven. Their games have averaged combined scores of 43.8 PPG. This is UGA’s lowest total of the season, as its previous high was 45.5 points in a 21-0 win vs. Kentucky. The ‘under’ has hit in all three Georgia games that have had a total in the 40s.

The ‘under’ has cashed at a 5-1 clip in the last six games of this rivalry. UGA is 5-1 both SU and ATS in the past six head-to-head meetings.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

              **B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Nation’s Best ATS teams: Ohio State and UL-Lafayette are both 8-1 ATS. Auburn, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Tulane are 7-2 versus the number. Best of the Rest: Navy (6-2), Minnesota (6-2-1) and then Clemson, FAU, CMU, Illinois and Western Kentucky are 7-3 ATS.

              -- Nation’s Worst ATS squads: Akron (0-10), UMASS (1-9), Vanderbilt (1-8), Nebraska (1-8), Texas State (1-7), Arkansas (2-8), Ohio (2-8) and FIU (2-8).

-- Ohio State won its appeal of star DE Chase Young’s four-game suspension from the NCAA. The suspension has been reduced to two games, meaning he’ll miss one more game Saturday at Rutgers. Young, who leads the nation in sacks with 13.5, will return for next week’s showdown at The ‘Shoe vs. Penn State.

-- Wake Forest WR Sage Surratt is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Surratt is the ACC’s leader in receptions (66), receiving yards (1,001) and TD catches with 11. Also, Wake Forest senior WR Scotty Washington is expected to miss a second straight game Saturday at Clemson. Washington has 35 catches for 607 yards and seven TDs.

-- Vanderbilt Riley Neal will return from a concussion Saturday and start at QB vs. Kentucky. Mo Hasan (concussion) is ‘doubtful’ against the Wildcats, who are 10-point road favorites in Nashville. Kentucky WR/QB Lynn Bowden is listed as ‘questionable’ with an undisclosed injury, but he’s expected to play nonetheless. With UK’s hoops team dealing with injuries, there’s been some discussion of Bowden joining John Calipari’s squad. Mark Stoops has given his approval once the football season concludes, so that’s something to keep an eye on in a few weeks. Vandy’s Derek Mason needs a win over the Wildcats in the worst way for his job security.

-- California was 4-0 and in a tight game with Arizona State when QB Chase Garbers went down with a shoulder injury in late September. Garbers, who had an 8/2 TD-INT ratio, has been cleared to return and will start in Saturday’s home game vs. USC. The Golden Bears, who are four-point home underdogs, have gone 6-2 ATS as home ‘dogs during Justin Wilcox’s tenure. They’re 15-6 ATS in 21 games as underdogs at any venue on Wilcox’s watch.

-- Georgia State star QB Dan Ellington is ‘out’ Saturday vs. Appalachian State due to a knee injury. Ellington has carried the Panthers to a 6-3 SU record and a 5-2-2 ATS ledger. The senior signal caller has 1,813 passing yards with an 18/4 TD-INT ratio. Ellington also has 603 rushing yards, five TDs and a 4.8 YPC average.

-- After missing last week’s home loss to USC, Arizona State true freshman QB Jayden Daniels practiced Tuesday and was upgraded to ‘probable’ for Saturday’s game at Oregon State.

-- Florida, a 6.5-point road favorite Saturday at Missouri, has compiled a 4-1 spread record in five games as a road favorite during Dan Mullen’s two-year tenure. Mizzou QB Kelly Bryant (hamstring) was upgraded to ‘probable’ vs. UF late Tuesday, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t note how the Tigers upgraded him to ‘probable’ in the middle of last week’s preparations for UGA. Then on Saturday morning of last week, Bryant was downgrade to ‘doubtful.’ We aren’t implying he’s not ready to go against the Gators, but we won’t depend on Barry Odom for accurate injury information moving forward. Mullen said earlier this week that he’s ‘hopeful’ UF star DE Jabari Zuniga will be ready at Missouri. However, bettors can’t count on that. Zuniga has attempted to return from the ankle injury he suffered at Kentucky in September twice (vs. LSU and vs. UGA), only to suffer setbacks in each instance.

-- Indiana has covered the spread in four consecutive games as a road underdog. The Hoosiers have had two weeks to prep for Saturday’s game at Penn State. The Nittany Lions are in vintage sandwich spot, facing IU one week after a loss to unbeaten Minnesota and one week before playing at undefeated Ohio State. PSU is 18-14-2 ATS in 34 games as a home ‘chalk’ on James Franklin’s watch.

-- Akron fell to 0-10 both straight up and against the spread in Tuesday’s 42-14 loss to Eastern Michigan as a 17-point home underdog. The Eagles covered in the first quarter (-4), first half (-8.5 or 9), for the game and for adjusted sides like -27.5 for a +315 return. The Zips will try to get their first win at Miami (OH.) next Wednesday on Nov. 20. They close the season at home vs. Ohio on Tuesday, Nov. 26. EMU improved to 5-5 SU and 4-5-1 ATS. The Eagles are at No. Illinois next Tuesday and then host Kent State on Friday, Nov. 29.

-- The ‘over’ is 8-2 overall for UMass after cashing in seven of its last eight games. The Minutemen play Saturday at Northwestern, which went into last week with the nation’s worst scoring offense. After producing their second-highest output of the year in a 24-22 home loss to Purdue, the Wildcats allowed Akron to overtake them at No. 130 out of 130 FBS team in scoring offense. Nevertheless, Northwestern has still seen the ‘under’ go 6-3 overall. The Wildcats are 41-point home favorites, and the total is 56. They’ve only scored 35 points in their last five games combined. Their biggest scoring outburst this season came in a 30-14 home win over UNLV in Week 2.

-- Florida State star RB Cam Akers is ‘out’ of Saturday’s home game vs. Alabama State due to an undisclosed injury.

-- Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich hasn’t named a starter for Saturday’s game at UNLV. The Rainbow Warriors are seven-point road favorites for the Mtn. West showdown at Sam Boyd Stadium. Rolovich benched QB Cole McDonald in favor of redshirt freshman Chevan Cordeiro in last week’s 42-40 home win over San Jose State. Cordeiro responded in his first career start, completing 23-of-31 passes for 309 yards and three TDs. He also ran for 55 yards and a pair of scores. McDonald threw for 3,875 yards with a 36/10 TD-INT ratio in 2018, when he also ran for 359 yards and four TDs. In 2019, McDonald has 2,796 passing yards and a 25/12 TD-INT ratio. He’s also run for 353 yards and four TDs. However, the guess here is that Rolovich sticks with Cordeiro, and Hawaii is in good shape either way because both dudes can perform at a high level.

              • Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

Five least experienced college hoop teams this season:

                6) South Carolina-Upstate

                5) Virginia Tech

                4) Central Connecticut

                3) Incarnate Word

                2) Utah

                1) Memphis

                **********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Clearing out cluttered mind……

                13) Browns’ DE Myles Garrett was suspended indefinitely (minimum of 6 games) by the NFL after the fracas at the end of the Browns’ game with Pittsburgh Thursday night.

Cleveland DT Larry Ogunjobi was also suspended for a game; Pittsburgh’s center Maurkice Pouncey was suspended for three games.

                12) Shaky programming move by ESPN, putting the UNC-Pitt game on Thursday night, same time the Steelers were playing. Wednesday or Friday would’ve worked better.

                11) Pittsburgh Pirates hired former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington as their new GM, then fired assistant GM Kyle Stark. Cherington was GM in Boston when they won the 2013 World Series, but got the boot two years later- they’re not real patient in Boston.

Cherington’s first job is probably to hire a manager, seeing how the Pirates don’t have one yet after they fired Clint Hurdle.

                10) West Virginia 68, Pittsburgh 53— ESPNU’s analyst for this game was Chris Spatola, who is Mike Krzyzewski’s son-in-law. Pitt is coached by former Dukie Jeff Capel; they did couple of segments during the game where they showed Pitt’s new locker room, it was like a Pitt Panther infomercial, geared towards recruits.

Meanwhile, West Virginia has a big kid named Oscar Tshiebwe who dominated the game inside, with 20 points, 17 rebounds in his second college game. Mountaineers have won four in a row over Pitt for first time since 1977.

                9) Rhode Island 93, Alabama 79— Solid win for the A-14, with URI forcing 22 turnovers (+10).

                8) Gonzaga 79, Texas A&M 49— Zags are this generation’s version of the Jerry Tarkanian UNLV teams; a national power that dominates a mid-major league in January-February, and uses pre-conference play to test itself in games like this. Aggies shot 30.4% from floor in this game.

                7) NFL stuff:
                — Lions’ QB Matthew Stafford (back) is out again this week.
                — Vikings’ WR Adam Thielen (hamstring) is out again this week.
                — Eagles put RB Darren Sproles on IR, ending his season.

                6) NBA stuff:
                — Nets’ F Caris LeVert (thumb) will likely miss 4-6 weeks.
                — Hawks’ F Kevin Huerter (shoulder) is out two weeks.

                5) A few over/under numbers for CONFERENCE wins in college hoop:
                — Colorado 11.5
                — Duke 15
                — Gonzaga 14
                — UNLV 9
                — Utah State 14
                — Villanova 11.5

                4) California Golden Bears QB Chase Garbers has been cleared to return and will start in Saturday’s home game vs. USC.

                3) James Holzhauer, who won $2.46M during a 32-game winning streak on Jeopardy! last spring, won the show’s Tournament of Champions during Friday’s episode, taking the $250,000 first prize.

                2) Duquesne 58, Lipscomb 36— These teams combined to make 1 of 40 3-pointers.

Let me repeat that; these teams took 40 3-pointers, and made ONE!!! No bueno.

                1) Celtics 105, Warriors 100— Golden State played its heart out, but lost their 6th game in a row and is now 2-11 in this lost season.

                    • Harden scores 49 points, taking career-high 41 shots
                      November 16, 2019
                      By The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) James Harden scored 49 points on a whopping 41 shots from the field and the undermanned Houston Rockets won their seventh straight gamer, 125-105 over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.

With Russell Westbrook resting, the Rockets needed Harden to shoulder an even bigger scoring load than usual. The 41 attempts are the most in his career, and the most in the NBA this season, surpassing the 37 Golden State's D'Angelo Russell took in an overtime loss Nov. 8 in the same building in Minnesota.

Harden made 16 of the 41 shots, going 8 for 22 from 3-point range. He was 9 of 11 on free throws.

Ben McLemore scored 20 points. Undrafted rookie Chris Clemons scored a career-high 19 for the Rockets, who broke open the game with a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter. Austin Rivers also had 19 points.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

                      TRAIL BLAZERS 121, SPURS 116

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - CJ McCollum scored 32 points and Portland beat San Antonio to spoil Tim Duncan's first shot at coaching following Gregg Popovich's ejection.

Popovich was ejected after walking onto the court to berate official Jason Goldenberg over a non-call. Popovich calmly walked off the court following his first ejection of the season.

The Spurs responded with Duncan and fellow assistants Becky Hammon and Will Hardy coaching by committee, but it was Duncan calling the plays and screaming out instruction.

Damian Lillard added 22 points and Hassan Whiteside had 21 for Portland.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 30 points and 13 rebounds Spurs. They've lost five straight.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paul George scored 37 points in his Clippers home debut, Lou Williams added 25, and Los Angeles led all the way in routing Atlanta.

The anticipated first game with George and Kawhi Leonard in the lineup together didn't happen when Leonard sat out with a left knee contusion.

But the Clippers didn't need both of their new superstars on a night when George tied his career high with six 3-pointers and made all 11 of his free throws in the team's biggest blowout of the young season.

Trae Young had 20 points for the Hawks, who dropped their second in a row. They trailed by 52 points in the fourth.

                      BUCKS 102, PACERS 83

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo had 26 points, 13 rebounds and six assists and Milwaukee forced Indiana into its worst shooting performance of the season.

Brook Lopez added 15 points and eight rebounds. He had blocked five shots as the Pacers shot a season-low 32% from the field.

Milwaukee, 9-3 despite a road-heavy schedule to start the season, shot 45%. Donte DiVincenzo added 14 points,

Myles Turner, playing his first game since Oct. 30, had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for Indiana.

Delon Wright finished with 15 points, and banked in a fadeaway with 5 seconds left in the third quarter to send Dallas into the fourth quarter with a 78-77 edge. Wright added six points in the fourth quarter.

Kristaps Porzingis had 20 points and matched his career best with 15 rebounds for Dallas.

Norman Powell scored a season-high 26 points for Toronto.

CHICAGO (AP) - Spencer Dinwiddie scored 24 points and Brooklyn beat Chicago without All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to snap a three-game losing streak.

Irving entered Saturday sixth in the NBA with 28.5 points per game but sat with a right shoulder injury. The short-handed Nets are also without Caris LeVert, who's recovering from right thumb surgery.

                          Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday……

                          13) Oklahoma 34, Baylor 31:
                          — Bears led 28-3 in first half, 31-10 at the half.
                          — Oklahoma ran 95 plays in this game, Baylor 52.
                          — Baylor ran only 16 plays in the whole 2nd half.
                          — Oklahoma QB Hurts ran for 114 yards, threw for 297 yards and four TD’s.

                          12) Georgia 21, Auburn 14— Dawgs led 21-0 after 3rd quarter, hung on for the win that gives them their 3rd straight SEC East title. Auburn outgained Georgia, 321-259.

                          11) TCU 33, Texas Tech 31— Red Raiders missed a PAT, then went for two points after two other times and didn’t convert either one; those three points were the difference in this game.

TCU gained 549 yards, converting 15-24 third down plays.

Horned Frogs are 5-5; this was their first win this year (1-4) in games decided by 7 or less points. They need to beat either Oklahoma or West Virginia to become bowl eligible.

                          10) Alabama 38, Mississippi State 7— Bama QB Tagovailoa dislocated his hip when Tide led 35-7 near end of the first half; he was helicoptered out of Starkville and Alabama scored only three points in the 2nd half. Tagovailoa is obviously out for the year.

                          9) Central Michigan 45, Ball State 44— Chippewas trailed 41-24 with 2:00 left in 3rd quarter; they scored game-winning TD with 1:01 left.

                          8) Penn State 34, Indiana 27— Indiana QB Peyton Ramsey threw 652 passes for the Hoosiers the last two years, but lost his starting job this year to redshirt freshman Michael Penix Jr; instead of pouting/transferring, like so many college QB’s do these days when they don’t start anymore, Ramsey stuck around and got the starting job back when Penix got hurt.

Hard not to root for the kid; he played for his dad in HS, is named after Peyton Manning and said he loves the team too much to transfer somewhere else. He was 31-41/371 passing in this game, ran for two TD’s, threw for one in a losing cause. Indiana is 7-3 and headed to a bowl.

                          7) Upsets:
                          — Rice (+14.5) 31, Middle Tennessee 28— Great day for the Owls.
                          — West Virginia (+14) 24, Kansas State 20
                          — Syracuse (+10.5) 49, Duke 6
                          — Temple (+6.5) 29, Tulane 21
                          — Kent State (+6) 30, Buffalo 27

                          6) Iowa 23, Minnesota 19— Golden Gophers outgained Iowa 431-290, but lost their 9th straight game in Iowa City.

                          5) Michigan 44, Michigan State 10— From 2013-15, Michigan State went 36-5, thanks in large part to a +46 turnover ratio. Thats +46 in 41 games.

Since then, MSU is 24-24, with a turnover ratio of minus-4.

                          4) College basketball upsets:
                          — Montana State (+15) 67, NC-Greensboro 66- Kid drained 50-footer at buzzer.
                          — Rice (+9.5) 82, UCSB 81— Gauchos were up 20 at the half.
                          — Eastern Michigan (+9) 56, North Texas 51
                          — St Bonaventure (+8.5) 80, Rutgers 74

                          — Liberty (+7) 77, East Carolina 57
                          — Vermont (+2) 70, St John’s 68— Upset in name only.

                          3) Wisconsin 37, Nebraska 21— Cornhuskers gave coach Scott Frost a 2-year contract extension, despite his 8-14 record in a year and a half with Nebraska.

                          — Florida State fired Willie Taggart in his 2nd year, when he had a 9-12 record (0-5 vs Florida, Miami and Clemson)

                          — Arkansas fired coach Chad Morris in his 2nd year; he had a 4-18 record.

                          2) Temple 29, Tulane 21— Since 2010, Owls are 71-53 overall, 43-33 in conference games, under FIVE different head coaches. Its quietly become a pretty good job, albeit a stepping stone job.

                          1) LSU 58, Ole Miss 37— Burrow was 32-42 passing for 489 yards, five TD’s as he continues to make his case to the the first QB taken in next April’s NFL Draft.

                              • Kings snap Celticsâ?? 10-game winning streak
                                November 17, 2019
                                By The Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Buddy Hield scored a season-high 35 points, Richaun Holmes hit two free throws with 13.3 seconds remaining to give Sacramento the lead, and the Kings snapped the Boston Celticsâ?? 10-game winning streak with a 100-99 victory Sunday.

Marcus Smart had a chance to win it for Boston, but his runner in the lane hung on the rim before trickling off as the buzzer sounded.

Harrison Barnes added 13 points and Bogdan Bogdanovic had 12 points and 10 assists for the Kings.

Jaylen Brown scored 18 points and Kemba Walker had 15 for Boston. Jayson Tatum and Daniel Theis each added 14. The Celtics lost for the first time since their Oct. 23 opener at Philadelphia.

                                LAKERS 122, HAWKS 101

LOS ANGELES (AP) - LeBron James scored 12 of his 33 points during a breathtaking opening nine minutes for the Lakers, who raced to a 25-point lead and handed Atlanta its second ugly loss in 24 hours at Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant watched from courtside as his former team used suffocating defense to fuel an outburst that gave it a 34-9 lead.

In a quarter full of highlights, Jamesâ?? biggest play provided his first points. After JaVale McGee blocked Jabari Parkerâ??s shot, James grabbed the ball, passed to Danny Green and took the return pass for a slam dunk that brought the crowd to its feet two minutes in.
