          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NBA Game of the Day: Clippers at Warriors
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Golden State is unlikely to reach last season's 73-9 regular season but is just as dominant leading the NBA in scoring (118.2), field-goal percentage (50.1), assists (31)

Los Angeles Clippers at Golden State Warriors (-12.5, 230.5)

The stretch run in the NBA begins when teams come back from the All-Star break on Thursday, and everyone is chasing the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors will try to further solidify their standing as the top team in the Western Conference when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.

The Clippers are one of several teams active on the trade market as they try to add an impact piece to help close the gap between themselves and Golden State, but the return of point guard Chris Paul from a thumb injury might be the only thing the team needs to make things interesting. Paul is expected to be out until the middle of March after undergoing surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament in January, but Los Angeles may have finally figured out how to win without their leader during a string of four straight victories prior to the break. The Warriors are not big players at the trade deadline after making their key acquisition with the signing of Kevin Durant last summer, and they enter the final stretch of 26 games with a 12-game lead over the Clippers in the Pacific Division and a four-game gap over the San Antonio Spurs atop the West. Golden State got less rest than most teams during the break as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Durant all played in the All-Star game.

          TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT

LINE HISTORY: The Warriors opened as 11.5-point home favorites against their Pacific division rivals, but that number wasn’t high enough and was quickly bet to 12 and as of Thursday morning has made it to 12.5. The total opened at 231 and has dropped a full point to 230. Check out the complete line history here.

          INJURY REPORT:

Clippers - PG Chris Paul (Questionable, thumb), PF Brice Johnson (Out indefinitely, back)

Warriors - PF David West (Questionable, thumb), C Zaza Pachulia (Questionable, shoulder)

          POWER RANKINGS: Clippers (-6.9) - Warriors (-15.3) + home court (-3) = Warriors -11.4

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (35-21 SU, 29-27 ATS, 31-25 O/U): Perennial All-Stars Paul and Blake Griffin were left out of the All-Star game after injury-plagued first halves but center DeAndre Jordan represented Los Angeles and even earned some playing time with all four Warriors in the West's 192-182 triumph. Griffin missed 20 of the first 56 games but is making up for lost time while averaging 25.5 points on 52.1 percent shooting, 8.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists in eight games this month. Griffin, who can become a free agent this summer, is drawing plenty of interest on the trade market but is considered unlikely to move.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (47-9 SU, 27-27-2 ATS, 25-31 O/U): Golden State is unlikely to reach last season's record 73-9 regular season but is just as dominant while leading the league in scoring (118.2), field-goal percentage (50.1), assists (31), point differential (plus-12.8) and 3-point defensive field-goal percentage (32.5) while ranking second in defensive field-goal percentage (43.6). Durant is proving to be a seamless fit while averaging a team-best 25.8 points on a career-high 53.9 percent shooting. Durant showed off during the All-Star game by collecting a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Curry added 21 points, Thompson scored 12 and Green collected seven rebounds and six assists for the West.

          TRENDS:

          * Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.
          * Warriors are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
          * Over is 5-1 in Warriors last 6 games following a straight up win.
          * Over is 4-1 in Warriors last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 10 points.
          * Clippers are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

CONSENSUS: 63 percent of users are siding with the home favorite Warriors and Over is picking up 60 percent of the totals wagers.

            • Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

              — For the record, Joe Blanton was the last MLB pitcher to throw an intentional walk.

              — Best NBA teams against the spread: 76ers 34-22, Wizards 32-23, Heat 33-24

              — Worst NBA teams against the spread: Trailblazers 23-34, Bucks 22-33, Magic 23-34

              — Arizona State didn’t sub in entire first half of their game with UCLA last night.

              — Lou Williams scored 22 points in 20:00 in his debut for Houston.

              — Cardinals-Cowboys is the Hall of Fame Game in Canton in August.

              **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Wrapping up a Thursday night of basketball

              13) UCLA 87, Arizona State 75— Sun Devils didn’t sub in the whole first half; they went 14-34 on the arc, fought like hell, but they don’t have many tall players, which is a problem.

              12) Michigan State 88, Nebraska 72— Joe Lunardi has the Spartans as a 10-seed right now, opposite Oregon in a second round game. No matter what, some really high seed might play Michigan State in that second round and they’re going to be very nervous about it.

              11) Georgia 60, Alabama 55— Dawgs are 8-0 vs spread as an SEC road underdog this year; JJ Frazier had 28 of their 60 points here. Georgia played without injured star Maten.

              10) Northeastern 105, Elon 104, 2OT— Teams combined to go 30-70 on the arc, with only 13 turnovers in the whole game. Elon had won six in a row at home.

              9) Texas-El Paso 60, FAU 55— UTEP was 2-10 in non-conference games, but now they’re 10-5 in Conference USA. Not sure if they’ve improved a lot or if C-USA is not so good.

              8) South Dakota 92, Western Illinois 81— Coyotes have won five games in row, own a half-game lead over North Dakota State in Summit standings; conference tourney is a neutral site, so not as big a deal as in other leagues, but this is South Dakota’s best season since 2010.

              7) Arizona 90, USC 77— UCLA comes to Tucson Saturday; big weekend for the Wildcats.

              6) Cal-Davis 96, Northridge 85— Aggies are tied for first in Big West with Cal-Irvine.

              5) IUPUI 83, Fort Wayne 82— Revenge for IUPUI, which lost first meeting this season with the Mastodons 103-73.

              4) Rice 72, Southern Miss 71, OT— Owls are 19-9, 9-6 in C-USA; this is their first winning season since 2012, their first winning conference season since ’05.

              3) Eastern Washington 82, Weber State 72— EWU knocks Wildcats out of a tie for first in Big Sky tournament; these teams are now tied for second, could meet again in Big Sky semis.

              2) Rockets 129, Pelicans 99— Houston’s bench outscored New Orleans’ bench 79-26. Cousins/Davis combined for 56 points; look at the rest of their squad— not lot of top-flight talent there.

1— New Orleans 82, Central Arkansas 65— Privateers dropped basketball for two years, are in fifth year back in D-I, are in first place in Southland Conference. Good story.

Friday’s NBA Game of the Day: Celtics at Raptors
                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Celtics emerge from the All-Star break three games behind Cleveland in the Eastern Conference after a 24-8 surge but are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 meetings against Toronto

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors (-3, 215.5)

The Boston Celtics chose to stand pat at the NBA trade deadline while the Toronto Raptors continued to tweak their roster in advance of the two teams meeting Friday night in Canada. The Celtics emerge from the All-Star break three games behind first-place Cleveland in the Eastern Conference after a 24-8 surge and they hope to continue to ride the momentum with the current roster.

"I don't think that, when you're in a position where you're playing at a pretty good level, you should anticipate much change," coach Brad Stevens told ESPN as the deadline approached Thursday afternoon. The Raptors felt otherwise amid a recent 4-11 swoon and bolstered their ranks with the acquisitions of veteran forwards Serge Ibaka, who came from Orlando prior to the All-Star break, and P.J. Tucker, acquired from Phoenix in exchange for center Jared Sullinger and draft picks on Thursday. "He's an excellent defender,’’ coach Dwayne Casey said of Ibaka at practice Wednesday. "I remember the days of going at him from down in Dallas (where Casey served as an assistant). The game has changed from a shot blocking perspective, but it's still there. He can still protect the rim." The Celtics had won four in a row before a one-point loss at Chicago prior to the break, while Toronto snapped a three-game slide with a 90-85 victory over Charlotte, although Ibaka did not suit up for that one.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, CSN New England (Boston), Sportsnet ONE (Toronto)

LINE HISTORY: The Raptors opened as 3-point home favorites against the Atlantic division leading Celtics and the total is set at 215.5. As of Friday morning neither of those numbers has moved. Check out the complete line history here.

                        INJURY REPORT:

Celtics - SF Jaylen Brown (Probable, hip), SF Gerald Green (Questionable, heel), SG Avery Bradley (Questionable, achilles), PG Demetrius Jackson (Out Indefinitely, illness)

Raptors - PF Patrick Patterson (Probable, knee), SF P.J. Tucker (Questionable, back)

                        POWER RANKINGS: Celtics (-6.4) - Raptors (-7.9) + home court (-3) = Raptors -4.5

ABOUT THE CELTICS (37-20 SU, 29-26-2 ATS, 31-25-1 O/U): Boston was linked in rumors to several big names - notably Indiana's Paul George and Chicago's Jimmy Butler - but chose to hold onto several of the draft picks they've stockpiled in recent years. "It's pretty well-known it's a good draft (this year)," general manager Danny Ainge told reporters. "We have very good fortune right now. ... We need to make the most of that." All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas carries a franchise-record streak of 41 straight games with at least 20 points, while fellow guard Avery Bradley (Achilles) - who has missed 20 of the last 21 games - remains uncertain after reportedly going through a small portion of Thursday's practice.

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (33-24 SU, 31-25-1 ATS, 35-25 O/U): While the front office was busy Thursday, guards DeMar DeRozan (personal matter) and Kyle Lowry (travel issues) were absent from practice, depriving the team of another chance to get their All-Stars in sync with Ibaka. Lowry had 32 points in a 109-104 loss at Boston earlier this month while DeRozan was out with a sore ankle, but the latter went for a season-high 41 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in the previous meeting, a 114-106 win for the Raptors at home Jan. 10. DeRozan averaged 29 points in his first three games since returning from the ankle injury but then went 5-for-19 from the floor in back-to-back outings prior to the break.

                        TRENDS:

                        * Celtics are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Atlantic.
                        * Raptors are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
                        * Over is 10-2-1 in Celtics last 13 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
                        * Over is 13-3 in Raptors last 16 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
                        * Celtics are 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

CONSENSUS: 51 percent of users are siding with the home favorite Raptors and Over is picking up 65 percent of the totals wagers.

                            • Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

                              — DH’s hit .254 LY, with a .326 on-base %age. Pitchers hit .132.

                              — Timberwolves wouldn’t trade Ricky Rubio for Derrick Rose— wow.

                              — Omar Casspi broke his thumb in his first game for the Pelicans; now New Orleans is going to waive Casspi. Tough business.

                              — In the last 370 days, Ersan Ilyasova has been on six different NBA teams.

                              — Ben Simmons will not play this season, which makes you wonder how he’ll be when he finally does lace up sneakers next fall. Two years in college/pros, he hasn’t done a whole lot.

                              — Spurs 105, Clippers 97— Tough back/back for Clippers after All-Star break: Warriors and Spurs- they lost both.
