Sorry but this addiction is not a disease IMO.

Government (State of MD) employees can get on disability for having a "disease" like alcoholism, drug addictions. They cannot be fired for having this "disease". All the Mental health lobbies have seen to it that these diseases are publicly funded for treatment. Taxpayer funded partyime.

I have just found a miracle cure for these diseases: JUST SAY NO!
    I agree 1000%

YOU and only YOU made the choice to quit, and choice to stay off of the shit. YOU Chad, not some teacher or therapist.
When you walk into AA you say "I" am an addict. Not because of some mental problem or because of some study you read but your admiting(the first step) because of "I". I agree with you Jimmy and I respect you more now than ever.

Anyone who has been through alcohol or drug addiction either indirectly or directly will tell you my post was a great analogy and holds crucial relevance.

Whether it is legal or not is not an issue whatsoever. Most people who started drinking alcohol did it under illegal pretenses under the age of 21 anwyay.

Your example of having sex with a 23 year old and 13 year old is "horrible analogy with no relevance" and doesnt even make sense IMO...

When your addicted its too late. The outcome prior to it is unknown. Please re-read what I have previously stated throughout this thread. When one first experiments with alcohol in high school or college some become recreational drinkers and others may become alcoholics. THEY DO NOT KNOW THE LONG TERM OUTCOME. Of course you can say well if what we know nowadays that could potentially happen as if anyone having their first beer says I will become an alcoholic no they dont cause everyone thinks that cant happen to me. I dont know how I can possibly re-iterate that in any other way to you. But like I said before I hold nothing against you as you cannot relate on a personal level to the subject.
As Wayne and I have stated, I still don't think they alcohol comparison to crack makes sense. Yes, people become alcoholics, yes alcoholics will say that addiction is a strong as crack, but I'm not talking about once the addiction sets it. I'm talking about the stupidity of the decision to try it to begin with. I've never done any hard drugs in my life mainly b/c I'd be scared shitless to try them. EVERYONE knows how extremely addicting the hard drugs are, and despite being nowhere near the drug sene, I've heard countless stories of people instantly becoming hooked on the shit after the first time. Alcohol simply isn't nearly addictive as crack. Yes, for some people it may be, but at a far smaller percentage than the hard drugs. Knowing how addictive it is I've made the DECISION not to ever get near the stuff.

I also don't buy the drunk excuse. I'm been plenty hammered at times in my life, and short of being unconscious, have never had a problem turning away hard drugs.

WHEN YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL OR WHATEVER PERIOD OF YOUR LIFE IT MAY HAVE BEEN AND YOU WERE OFFERED YOUR FIRST BEER DID YOU SAY NO? MAYBE YOU DID ON THE FIRST TIME BUT DID YOU EVENTUALLY HAVE ONE? YOU HAD THE LUXURY OF NOT GETTING ADDICTED TO BOOZE CONGRATS TO YOU. WELL UNFORTUNATELY FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME AND AN ALCOHOLIC LIKE BILLY BOB JOE THEY DID HOWEVER GET ADDICTED. OH HOW THEY FUCKED UP WAYNE. OH WHAT A TERRIBLE CHOICE THEY MADE BY ACCEPTING THE OFFER OF A BEER WITH THEIR BUDDIES THEY SHOULDNT HAVE HAD THAT FIRST BEER KNOWING THAT SUBSTANCES CAN POTENTIALLY BE ADDICTIVE. THEY KNEW GOING IN FULL WELL THAT THEY WOULD END UP GETTING ADDICTED AND KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN TO THEM RIGHT WAYNE?

                        is right.

You still don't get Wayne and my point that ALCOHOL IS NOT NEARLY AS ADDICTIVE AS CRACK THE FIRST TIME YOU TAKE IT.I would imagine 95% of people that try beer the first time b/c addicted at that point. No way you can say that about crack. We are dealing with percentages here. Yes drinking a beer for the first time CAN end of being a poor decision, but trying crack for the first time IS going to end up being a poor decision.

                            • This thread could go on forever because as frank and myself said unless you have been touched either directly or indirectly by substance addiction or studied the field in full detail your comments about it will always be uneducated on all based on your belief system, what you have read, heard, or seen. Its as simple as that. Harold I guess yourself, Wayne, and others are gonna have to agree to disagree but if you think for one moment that one substance can be any more or less addictive to an individuals variable reaction to it you really need to get more educated about substance addiction because that is not the case AT ALL. They are the exact equivalent and anybody who studies substance abuse and addiction will tell you the exact same thing.

Chad, that's why I stopped reading this thread and posting. The ignorant will remain ignorant. All the posts I did read are OPINIONS. They are not FACTS!
