  • Savage sorry to say this but agree with Wayne the talent level is not there on the roster this year. Only saving grace for them is the division looks to be as weak as it has been in 20+ years. I think bullpen is their strength looks solid on paper. Batting lineup has holes. Starting pitching I think will be okay at the top expect Lester to have a better year along with Buchholz but Dempster in the AL and Lackey are scary. On the up side they do look to have some nice young players on the way especially the Bradley kid and the two pitchers they got from the Ddodgers

I agree, but I am happy cuz the braves pitching looks solid and the outfield has power and speed

Blah, blah, blah to you also if you dismiss intangibles such as team chemisty-a lot of Yankees team had great talent on paper in the last decade and high priced players-how did that work out other than for one year-how come they didn't fare better?
I don't recall you picking the O's and A's to do as well as well as they did last year at beginning of the season.
Did they win ONLY on talent and or "perhaps" because of team unity and CHEMISTRY?
Lets just hope that I am right for both of our sakes.

You don't have to apologize for anything-it is your opinion and Wayne's against mine.
ps I wish I could find a prop bet somewhere which would allow me to bet that the Sox will have a better record than the Jays.

Good answer-you completely avoided my question about the O's and A's last year nor why Yankees didn 't do better with all the talent they had-how come if talent is everything?
Conversely, how come so many teams with lesser talent have won WS in the last 12 years or have at least made the playoffs and made a respectable showing?
What makes you opr anyone think a collection of LOSERS who played last year with the Marlins and whose team had a record as bad as the Sox are suddenly going to turn it around with a LOSER organization like the Jays?
I mean the Marlins felt so "highly" of these guys that they dumped them after one season. lol
I won't even respond to your silly notion that the Sox are putting out 12 year olds.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't your team the Cubs-if it is, good luck-hope you alive when Theo brings you a WS.
ps What odds will you give me?

Yes savage, every now and then a team comes out of no where ....... in every sport. Big Deal. Sox fans like you think it is going to be them every year. That's my point!

It is a LOT more than every now and then; conversely over the years the teams in all sports with the highest payroll and supposedly the best pure talent haven'tt come close to winning as many championships as they should.
Imo the bigreason for this is that as stated before, sometimes being able to play together as a cohesive unit with a strong desire to win with a good maanger9not BV) can overcome some of the deficiencies which exist on paper only.
Case in point-the 1967 Red Sox.
Also, I think the clubhouse culture is important and that to a good extent a much better one exists this year with the Sox than with the last two.
Couple that with some established stars, a new manager whh hopefully can help to turn around a couple of pitchers whom he coached while he was the pitching coast, some decent acquisitions and some good talent in the minors, I think the Sox are on the road to recovery and will make a very nice and exciting showing this year even if they do fall short of making the playoffs.
If you disagree, well of course you have right to your opinion and we will just have to wait and see how this all play out.

                        • savage, How many WS have the Red Sox won in your lifetime? 2??

That means about 97% of the time, in your lifetime, it's not gonna happen. Add that to the fact that they have probably had 30-40 better teams than this in that time span, guess what again savage, it's not happening. Yes, every weekend somebody plays the lottery and beats the odds. In "Reality", MOST would say it ain't happening. Just based on common sense. And as stated above, you are in the 60% of Red Sox fans that always stare at that 3% and think this is the year and we have hope!!!

Live in reality and if they pull something out of their ass, celebrate it then!

                            You are completely misquoting me.
I NEVER said that they were going to win the WS this year.
I simply stated that imo they have vastly improved themselves in many areas some of which are intangible, and that I wouldn't be surprised if they surprised a lot of folks including Sox fans and including you.
Who are you to say that my opinion is wrong-do you have a crystal ball-are you psychic-do you have a monoply on correct opinions?
If what you deem as common sense and for that matter logic prevailed, you and many others would have become multi millionaires a long time ago betting.
Conversely, remember back at the beginning of the 2011 season some proclaimed the Sox the best offer and I heard predictions that they could win 110-115 games.
Just go check September of that year to see how that prediction turned out.
If you think based on your criterion, they are a lost cause this year, so be it-I disagree based on my criterion which has nothing to do with being a Sox fan.
There have been seasons when I have not been optimistic.
I agree with the way in which Cherington has chosen to rebuild the team.
As Sox fans, lets hope that things work out or at least wait 30-40 games into the season before crirticizing.

As we all know in gambling, being a contrarian prevails a lot more times than not.
