"BIG GAME PLAY"--GAME OF THE MONTH:

          NY Yankees -108

-"Good pitching beats good hitting"....this statement is true, however it's Not completely true..And in tonights matchup, I feel it will be a balance of offense at the plate and solid piching on the hill which will be the balance needed to come a winner in this kind of markey games between the leagues Top Dogs....Below is are some of the main Key Factors which I feel will make and play a difference in the outcome, favoring the NY Yankees tonight..

*KEY FACTOR #1: Yankee Sticks keeps them Rollin Strong!

If yesterdays Bombs by Giambi, Martinez, and Cano's says anything...it should say watch world the Evil Empire's Offense is hitting from all angles and cant be matched right now....Yesterdays 6 HRs, not only came from Yankee hitters with the lowest averages in the lineup...but they all came from left handed hitters, accounting for all the run in that game as well....But more importantly, what this showed is that the Yankees can beat you even when their offensive studs in the lineup in Sheffield, Rodriguez, and Matsui, go a combined 0-for-13....Now that is Spooky!

Another thing that it shows..is that even when this team has a very rare day of being held in check with only 1 run allowed...this team is not as easy to hold down for long if at all....They can put up the runs and do it in big bunches and it can come in any inning, with any part of their lineup as well....Right now the Yanks are playing the best long ball in the league, as they upped their July HR total to 36 in 16 games...This also ranks them 2nd in the League with 130 homers, only second to the Rangers' 158....however, they do lead the majors with the most runs scored with 519...which says multi-run HRs are the results....Even more Spooky!

One of the Yankees Studs that has heated up is Jason Giambi, who currently has a .437 on-base percentage....This would be the highest in the AL if not due falling 3 at bats short of qualifying...He is also hitting .341 with 10 HRs and 29 RBIs in his last 45 games...

Yesterdays, 6 Bombs tied a season high for the Yanks...and I dont expect this total to stop just yet...Currently the Yanks have been averaging 2.25 HRs per game in their last 16...Unreal!....The Angels, cant even make it on base right now...lets alone expect to take one deep.

-In the last 7 games the Yankees have gone 5-2, averaging 5.9 rpg, hitting .262 at the plate, and .325 OBP..
-And int their last 5 games vs Two of the top Offensive teams (Boston and Texas) in hits, runs, rbis, the Yankees offense was able to outscore them 32 to 23 in this span....
-The Yanks Offense is currently 2nd in RBIs...3rd in Team batting avg at .276.....1st in Run production.....5th in Hits.....3rd in HRs (Angels 5th to last in HRs).....2nd in OBP at .356 (Angels 4th to last in OBP).
-The Yanks vs RHP's the last 10 games is hitting them at .287 average.....They also are averaging 5.6 rpg, .271 hitting, .352 OBP, and SLG .446 vs them overall.
-The Yanks in their last 10 games is 7-3 and averaged hitting overall .271....The Angels went 4-6 and averaged hitting just .213 overall in this span.

*KEY FACTOR #2: The "Big Unit" in a Grove and On a Run.

The "Big Unit" may finally be getting comfortable in his first year in pinstripes as he has put together a 3 game win streak which is the longest streak so far this year for him.....He is currently coming into this game off of a win over the World Champion Red Soxs at Fenway...where he went 6.1 innings, allowing 8 hits, and 4 runs...while striking out 10 in the process to improve his record to 10-6.

Johnson (10-6, 4.23 ERA overall) , in his last 3 games is 3-0 with a 4.19 ERA and 26 strikeouts in this span....
Overall, Johnson is 15-6 with a 2.75 ERA in 27 career starts vs the Angels...In these starts, he also holds an solid WHIP of 1.17 and allowed them to average just .217 hitting against him.... He is 6-2 with a 3.35 ERA in 11 outings at Angel Stadium.

Sidenote: Johnson is currently ranked 2nd in the league in ERA....1st in strikeouts.....and and first in strikeouts and lowest opponent batting average. His strikeout-walk ratio was the best of his career. His right knee, which ruined his 2003 season, was fine.

Sidenote: Currently Johnson is 7th in the AL in Wins with 10.....ranks 6th in the AL in inning pitched (134).....ranks 2nd in the AL in Strikeouts with 127......and ranks 2nd in the AL in Complete Games with 3.

Sidenote: OF Anderson is 1-for-12 in his career against LHP Johnson. ... 1B Darin Erstad is 4-for-18 (.222) against Johnson.

Since 1997,....Johnson is 4-1 vs the Angels with an ERA of 2.61 and WHIP of 1.181....and the Yankees have gone 6-1 vs the Angels when he started these 7 games..

-These are the Angel players averages and HRs posted off Randy..
          1. Guerrero avg .250 with 2 HRs......2. Erstad avg just .222 with 1 HRs.....3. Cabrera avg .294 with no Hrs.....4. Anderson avg .083 with no HRs.....5. Finley avg .222 with 1 HR.....6. Molina avg .250 with no HR......7. DaVanon avg .600 with no HRs.

Overall vs the "Big Unit", the Angels are just averaging .216 hitting at the plate, .284 OBP, and .399 SLG%....Advantage Randy!

*KEY FACTOR #3: The Lead Angels are Not Leading.

The foundations with which this Angel team depends alot upon this season...has not cracked but they have swayed abit off of their usual level game....Bartolo and Vlad, the two lead Angels are in a funk right now....Vlad more so...but Colon is based on his last two starts seems to be headed in that direction as well...Without these two playing on top of their game this team will continue struggling as it has been since the All Star break concluded..

Both of them this past Saturday continued their funk....Colon, the Angels All-Star selection, gave up 5 runs in the 4th inning leading to a 5-4 loss to the Twins on the road...In his last two games Colon has been smacked for 12 ERs, on 15 hits, in just 11 innings on the hill....Guerrero, in this game vs the Twins went hitless in his 4 at bats again ...which brought his total to 2 for 28 (.071) in his last 7 games....Since Saturday's game, his drought continued at he went a combined 2 for 14 in his next 4 games leading up to this one....Now he is 4 for 42, since the All Star break...This also marks his most unproductive stretch he has had in his two seasons as an Angel....Not good, as this team feeds off of him and his ability to change the game with a swing of his stick.

-Vs the Yankees....Colon is 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 10 career appearances, including 9 starts...In his last game vs the Yanks, he was pounded for 10 runs on just 5 hits....which came via 3 Bombs by Alex Rodriguez, lasting just 3 2/3rd innings in a Ass Whopping 12-3 loss at New York back in April...

-Colon eventhough sitting with a solid overall record of 11-6, he is just 4-4 with a 3.44 ERA in his 9 Home starts this year...So he is less than dominant at Home, which is good to see.

One bad thing about Colon is that he is said to be losing his velocity as he hasnt struck out as many batters since 2001, K total also dipping last year....One of the reasons for this decline is said to be due to his Fat Ass, which keeps growing bigger and wider...This is causing him to rarely throwing consistantly in the upper 90's and at times he has even struggled to break 90 MPH....One result of this is more players being able to lauch Bombs off of him...So far this year, those teams that did this the most was ranked #1, #2, #5 in the AL in HRs ...ie, Texas 3 HRs, Yankees 3 HRs, and Boston 1 HR... 7 of his HRs came off of these teams with Big Sticks...And right now, the Yankees Long Ball is flying out of ball parks at the rate of 2.25 HRs per a game...or 36 HRs in their last 16 games they played....And in their last game at Texas, the Yankees tied their season high with 6 long Bombs in the win...

-These are the Yankeed players batting average and HRs hit off of Colon to date:

          1.Rodriguez avg .425 with 6 HRs....2. Jeter avg .333 with 2 HRs....3. Giambi avg .208 no HRs.....4. Williams avg .316 with 1 HR......5 Posada avg .158 with 1 HR....6. Sheffield avg .429 with no HR.....7. Matsui avg .286 with 1 HR.....8. Womack avg .667 no HRs......9. Flaherty avg .400 with no HRs.

Sidenote: Colon is just 3-4 in 9 starts vs the Yankees in his career...with a 4.30 ERA and WHIP of 1.38...in these 9 starts he has also given up 12 HRs as well..

Overall vs "Fat Ass" Colon, the Yanks are averaging .291 at the plate, .377 OBP, and .515 SLG%....Advantage Bronx Bombers!

*KEY FACTOR #4: Angel's Offense has Gone Cold Again...

Just like the early season slump that the Angels went through...when Vlad was out, it seems that the Cold Bug has again arrived....however this time Vlad is also a reason for this...and that is Big.....Currently, the Angels have not had double digit hits total in their last 9 games...and is one of the main reasons why they have dropped 6 of their last 7 Home games..

In fact, in the Angels last 7 games they are 4-3, averaging 2.6 rpg, hitting just .201 at the plate, and has a .254 OBP.....Even the Angels use of small ball play to manufacture runs via stolen bases have not resulted in run production as they seem to lose their timely hitting which was a main reason they went on that solid 8 game win streak before the break....Making thing alittle harder for them today is the fact that out of their solid 82 stolen bases on the year, which ranks them 3rd in the league...they have only been able to steal 15 bases vs LHPs....and Randy is a LHP.

Sidenote: The Angels have struggled vs LHPs this year...ie, last shutout loss to Oakland's Zito (LHP) and their overall record of just 12-14 vs them..

Sidenote: The Angels vs LHPs the last 10 games is hitting .246 vs them.....and .238 at Home vs them....Overall vs LHPs, the Angels are averaging 4.6 rpg, hitting .261, and have a OBP of .313.

Sidenote: Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson and Darin Erstad make things go, but they have only been able to hit one HR since the All Star break...Not good!

          *Situational Advantage and Edges:

-After last years debacle in the playoffs, the Yanks want back in the Big Show even more badly then ever...However, this is what stands in their way right now....They're currently on an 11-day road trip without any off days, and won't face a sub-.500 team until Aug. 5, when they begin a 3-game series with the Blue Jays, who are a game under.

The Yankees will also play 36 of those last 69 games on the road, and of those 69, 40 will be against teams with better-than-.500 records. ...Because of this, you have to see the Yankees being nothing but completely focused on continuing to keep beating teams like they know they are more than capable of doing....The Yankees, usually have the easy road to the playoffs in the past...but this year is not the same as they know that the Bosox's have that rout this time around...But, with the way they are playing right now, especially on offense and with their starters out with injury you have to believe they are on a serious run...They know they can afford to slip up and that makes them a very dangerous team in my opinion...The Angels, well lets just say that they are a team that is a Lock in the post season...they know this, so slump or not, they are not in such a dire situation as the Yankees find themselves in at this time...

The Angels are smart and have a smart coach who knows that his team will work itself out of this funk just like they did earlier in the year...so I cant see him trying to force things by risking players, etc...just to get a win over the Yankees....something they already proven capable of doing and did in New York...To much ahead for them to play reckless to just this one team.

*Some more Stats, Trends, and Info favoring the Yankees today...

-Yankees 12-3 in Game 1 of away series.
-Yankees 7-2 vs the Angels at Anaheim over the last 3 seasons.
-3 Yankees with the lowest batting averages...Giambi .284, Posada .264, and Martinez .218...acccounted for 5 HRs hit yesterday against Texas.
-Yankees is 12-3 in its last 15 games.
-Yankees is 11-4 in July....Angels is 10-8 this month..
-Angels lost 7 of last 10 games and 6 of their last 7 Home games.

The mark on the "Big Unit" is that he is old and not longer can intimidate anyone anymore....But, that is not true at all...sure he may be losing abit of the sting he had a couple of years ago when he was with Zona...but he still can crank it up to 98 MPH on a good night, and regularly in the 90--95 MPH range, which is still very intimidating especially when he brings this heat inside....It seems that eventhough his speed has lessened it makes up for in his having better command of his two other pitches...his slider and his split finger to go along with his fastball...

With the Yanks focused and fully aware that the road back to the Dance is going to be a tough one, they have no time to stop running full steam ahead...and this is a perfect situation to find themselves in, especially with the Angels in a bad slump of late and Randy in the groove as well...The Yankees know that the Red Sox also are struggling with their pitching staff..so it will come down to who's offense can keep carrying their teams until its fixed...Right now, it appears they are using a combined effort of everyone on the offense to get the job done and with this talent they have...that should be more than enough to outlast most opponents starters and bullpen....

The Yanks tasted a brief feel of being on top the division the other day...but now know they must do alot more to stay on top....With this sense of urgency on the side of the Evil Empire, I the Yankees as my "BIG GAME PLAY"--GAME OF THE MONTH selection.....GL and Aloha CC.

                  • FYI:

-This Comp Play was also released as my Special-Top Rated Underdog Play of the Day...with indepth Write-Up in my MLB-Early Set.

**TOP RATED UNDERDOG GAME OF THE DAY ON:

                    Detroit +100 (GM 1)

-I know alot of people will be on Minny in this one, strickly because Silva's past record vs the Tigers...probably moreso because of his last win over the Tigers where he held them to just 2 ERs in the 6-2 win for the Twins...But what they are missing is the fact that he didnt have to face the Tigers Big Sticks in that game...ie, Guillen .326, Ordonez .321, Young (3 hits and 3 runs yesterday) , and Rodriguez .298....And in that last game he gave up 9 hits, 1 HR, and recorded just 2 strikeouts.

Other stats against Silva which I feel will catch up to him today is...his .297 hitting avg the Tigers have against him in their last 4 games facing Silva....Also, Silva has given up 6 HRs in his last 3 Road games....and in his 7 road games this year he has given up 8 total HRs, and has allowed opponents to avg .280 hitting against him in these road games....Silva, overall on the year is allowing all opponents to average .298 BAA agains him...And vs RHB's he has given up 10 HRs and only recorded 13 K's overall...In addition, his ERA vs RHB's is a whopping 7.42 with a BAA of .296 as well....Today, he will face a lineup that should be all Righties, as the Tigers are majority RHBs with two Switch hitters in Young and Guillen...and just 1 LHB listed, in Granderson, who is hitting .400 on the year...Oh Boy!

Now on to the good stuff...Det vs RHPs the last 10 games is hitting .305 vs them....plus vs LHP they are hitting .387....Minny vs RHPs in their last 10 games are hitting .237 vs RHPs....Overall in this 10 game span, Det is hitting a solid .332, while Minny is averaging just .244.

Other stats...Det is 5-2 in their last 7 meetings...Det 3-1 vs Minny as Det this season....Det is 10-5 in games played on Sat...Minny in their last 5 games scored 26 runs, while Det in their last 5 games put up 37 runs....And in their last 10 games played Det avg 6.4 rpg, while Minny avg'd 3.8 rpg.

Det is simply hitting and seeing the ball very well right now..and two players in Shelton and Ordonez is both on a 14 game hitting streak...to go alone with their solid .361 and .321 average...Plus in that last lost to Silva on June 23, Shelton recorded 3 hits in that game....Lastly, over the last 4 games, the Tigers has recorded a whopping 57 hits (18 hits, 12 hits, 15 hits, and 12 hits) in 2 games at CWS and 2 in this series so far against the Twins...Today, I definately see the Tigers Hot sticks finally catching up to Silva handing him a payback defeat..

Douglass goes for the Tigers...and so far this 26 year old Righty has been pitching very solidly in his 4 starts...at CWS, at TB, Yanks, and at Zona....In his last home game vs the Yankees All Star lineup he allowed just 7 hits and gave up just 1 ER, while walking only 2 and striking out 6...And vs the other 3 teams, he allowed a total of just 12 hits, 5 ERs, 5 walks, and recorded 11 K's...The Twins have not faced this kid yet so he has an advantage of that...but the way he has performed so far and the offensive power the Tigers now have with all their studs in the lineup...I like the Tigers to continue on their roll taking this series over the Twins and extending their winning ways to 4 of 5 and 11 of 16, as they go on a run which many predicted they would do.... Go Tigers!

                    *REGULAR PLAY ON:

LA's Houlton has pitched in 11 games on the road this season...3 as a starter which he went 1-1, ERA a whopping 7.16...In his last 3 starts his ERA is 6.32, WHIP is 1.404...and he has recorded just 8 K's, 5 walks, and gave up 3 HRs...Terrible!

Now lets look at "Who's Your Daddy"...Pedro has now won 4 of his last 5 starts and is coming off a superb game against the Braves winning 8-1...At Home is record in 10 starts is 5-1, ERA 2.44....And in his last 3 starts his ERA is 1.80, WHIP .850...with 20 K's and just 2 walks given up....Pedro vs LA since 1997 is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.14 and WHIP of 1.190...Solid!

Dodgers only 5-10 in Saturday games...Mets 4-1 in their last 6 outscoring opponents 35 to 11....In Pedro's last two starts the Mets outscored their opponents (Atl and Pitt) 14 to 2...Mets at Home holding opponents to just 3.7 rpg and .241 hitting at the plate overall...And the Mets BP in the last 3 games has been solid as well, with an ERA of 2.18...

Dodgers on the road cant be trusted as they are just 21-29...but Mets at Home are a solid 30-21...Umpire for this game also favors home teams with a record of 16-4 for the Home team....LA is 4-8 overall in their last 12 and their Hottest hitter in Kent is just 4-24 vs Pedro with 7 K's....I love the Mets today.... GO "WHO'S YOUR DADDY!"

-Still got my Evening Set and Late Set ready to Rock-N-Roll today....Check for another possible Comp Play if interested, later.....GL and LETS GO GET EM!...ALOHA CC.

                          Detroit +100 (GM 1) (WINNER!)

                          Detroit -1.5 +201 (GM 1)

                          FYI:

Well we almost covered the RL Comp Play just missing it by 1 run...The Tigers had their chances several times with runners in scoring position...but cant help it when their only All-Star (Rodriguez) on the team goes 0-4 and also was the only Tiger NOT to get a hit today...Damn It Pudge!

However, my Special-Top Rated Underdog Play of the Day does bring home another ML Winner for all those who got on it with me....The whole world was all over the Twins in this one because of Silva success vs the Tigers and the Twins facing an unknown in Douglass....But I knew better, because I digged deeper, paid more attention to current trends and situations, knew the talent that this Tigers team possesses on offense (when everyone healthy), and I also knew the talent this 26 year old Kid Douglass has proven to possess...Just a reminder to everyone...watch out for this Kid pitches again, cause he is a solid one...His stats has been very impressive and he backed it up again today, in his 5 start...Which 4 of them were Quality Starts....BTW, Douglass hasnt yet allowed more than 3 ERs in any of his 5 starts yet. (3 games were on the Road at CWS, TB, and Ariz) and (2 game at Home vs the Yankees and Minny today)....Solid!

Anyways, if you read my indepth Write-Up and Analysis on this game, which showed you why it was I liked this play so much....Then dont hesitate to contact me to get the Rest of My Best still yet to come...I got more of these Bad Boys on the horizon...including a few more going this Weekend....So dont keep missing out....I already showed you the Value and $uccess with these Plays and the Quality,Work, I put into Handicapping them...All the Proof is in the Pudding I Provided in this Running Thread...But the Rest is Up to You to Do!....If you want to Rock-N-Roll...then LETS GO GET EM!.....Aloha CC.

BTW... Football is my Strongest Sport to Cap ...so definately stay tuned for any Specials coming up soon...I cant hardly wait!

                              • *3RD COMP PLAYS 4 "SUPER SATURDAY" .....ENJOY!

                                Houston +100

-Natl lost 3 straight and the 12th game in their last 16....Washington only scored 30 runs in their last 11 games...and was 0-13 yesterday with men in scoring position...The Natl's luck has finally run out and their offense with all those injuries is the first to be showing Big Time signs of more losses to come...In the Nationals most recent 6 games, they have scored just 16 runs and have given up a whopping 30...This was good enough before when they were only averaging 3.9 rpg at Home..but it seems not at good vs teams like the Astros who's Bats are on Fire right now...

The Astro's in their last 6 games has scored 51 runs to their opponents 11...WOW!.....And vs the Nationals these past two games of the series, they have recorded 30 hits to the Natl's 14....3 HRs to 1....4 SB's to 1 SB....and 0 Errors to the Natls 2 errors.....Houston's sticks in their last 10 games vs RHPs is hitting .301 and also .306 vs LHPs.....Washington, on the other hand, is only hitting .254 vs RHPs in this span..

Houston's BP in their last 3 games has also been solid with an ERA of 2.39 to Washingtons BP ERA of 4.55 in this span....Houston send's Backe to the hill...and he's been struggling this year...but has pitched well the last 3 games going 3-0 with an ERA of 2.55 ..and with the Hot Offense the Astros have now, I feel he will be a bit more relaxed and able to concentrate more on batters at the plate...something he had a hard time doing when Houston was in their terrible early season funk...

Some Stats:...Houston is 11-1 in game 3 of an away series....Wash is 1-4 in Armas last 5 starts....Houston is riding their season high 6 game win streak....Houston also 14-5 in July..while Wash has gone just 7-11 in this month..

Washington right now is seeing their luck run out as their injuries to key players has caught up to them...not to mention that they are the hunted and not the one's hunting which is not a position they have much experience in...Plus, with Hernandez's saying he wont pitch anymore this year...thats got to hurt their confidence even more....Allthewhile the Astros keep rolling strong just like they did last season.... Go Astros!
