It's all good my friend. I can dish it as well as I can take it. And being a Die Hard Notre Dame fan...I've learned that it isn't an easy thing. When people say you either love em or hate em...it's very very true.

I just hope (being sincere) that I handle myself as well as you did yesterday. Cause you really did get hammered by us....mostly in good fun, but still.....

I mean no disrespect to this when I say this...this is a compliment...

But I've been through this for years....I"m almost numb to it. Because Notre Dame is as elite as they are, and as hated as they are because of it....the peanut gallary is ripe and ready to fire they're bullets year after year. You just have to know how to deal with it.

Consider yourself and the program you belove one of the best if we can spend that much time talking about it.

you don't talk about the shitty has been programs. You talk and argue about the teams that are making names for themselves.

        Make sense?

Rook you arent like the alumni and the financial backers of ND. All they care about is winning and not just against Navy. They want bowl wins and championships. Anything less is a bad year. You obviously are happy that ND just has a winning record. To each his own I guess.

Don't get me wrong. I want wins...I would love to see them win another national championship. But I'm not going to call the season a failure if we don't win the national championship. We may not have accomplished our #1 goal..and that will be a disappointment, but it's not a failure.

Losing 9 straight bowls sucks. It does. I can't deny that. I wish that was not the case. But it is what it is. Does that make our program a failure? Well, if recruiting classes are one of the answers to that question, i'm gonna have to say no. We had the best recruting class in a long time last year (#8)...and 2008 is gonna be even better. (#1 as of now)

I love debating/arguring/sword fighting as JC likes to call it....and I know you and Bill have many valid points. I hope that my counterpoints have the same validity.

            Your a class act Nex....

              http://rivals100.rivals.com/TeamRank...rt=0&year=2008

I guess I'll have to settle for that.

              Ho hum
Be careful how you read that data. You have that many "points" due to your high number of commitments to date. As other commitments come in you will go up and down in rankings. Clearly what you can see here is statistical parody between the top 20 or so recruiting classes. Something that did NOT exist over 10 years ago. It would clearly be ND and the other elites, with other schools way off the pace (Clemson, NC State and Pitt would NEVER have gotten a 5 star High School athlete).

Also you cannot look at just one class and define a teams ability to contend on the field (outside of the armed services division). You need to look at 3 years worth of classes.

              2007 ND Class 8th
              2006 ND Class 8th
              2005 ND Class 40th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
              2004 ND Class 32nd!!!!!!!!!

So your seniors and juniors will make it tough to be a top tier team any longer. Although you are definitely headed in the right direction. Only problem is schools like USC, Florida, Texas and LSU have all had better classes then the 2006 & 2007 classes at ND. So even in the future it looks like you are headed to a 5th + finish in the polls

But back to our original discussion, it is amazing 19 3 Star plus blue chip atheletes that can maintain the Achademic excellence admission policies of ND. Unbelieveable.

Rook, please see a general definition of Failure:

In general, failure refers to the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective. It may be viewed as the opposite of success.

Just like the Yankees since 2000, every season of Notre Dame football since their last Championship can be defined as a "FAILURE", as the intended objective of ND football (unlike a Boise St bowl win over Ok being an objective) is THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Nothing less.

Well Rook, one thing Notre Dame can hang it's hat on is it is the preseason pick to come in first among the Independents:

                                Independents
                                Predicted finish
                                1. Notre Dame
                                2. Navy
                                3. Army
                                4. Western Kentucky
