  • I think it's safe to say that Clemens was heavily into steroids in the 2000 season.

This excerpt from his WIKIPEDIA entry is a classic example, and all that really needs to be said:

In Piazza's first at-bat of Game 2, his bat shattered, sending a large piece of the broken bat shard flying in Clemens' direction. Clemens picked it up and threw the broken bat down toward the first base line—and near a jogging Piazza, missing him but clearing the benches of both teams. Clemens later claimed that he was "fielding" the broken bat, having mistaken it (in his state of heightened adrenaline) for the baseball. His explanation was widely ridiculed, in part because pitchers fielding baseballs hit in fair territory don't typically throw them just to the left of home plate: Mets pitcher Al Leiter observed that "if he felt that way, shouldn't he have thrown it to [Yankees first baseman] Tino [Martinez]?" (Clemens responded that upon realizing the "ball" to be a bat fragment, he threw it away in frustrated confusion.) Ultimately, Clemens was not ejected from the game, although he was later fined $50,000. Following the bizarre incident, he proceeded to shut down the Mets with 9 strikeouts, no walks and only 2 hits in 8 innings.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

      I'm sorry....I just don't get it.

Thats cuz the country is full of retards that are in credit card debt over their head, and all these dumb ass 5 and 10 year arm mortages are coming to life on people.

Ya, the gov't should help, but it's not their fault its happening to people. So, if they want to take some time to make sure a billion dollar industry (pro sports) is being ran correctly and slightly clean, I'm fine with that.

the problem is the cost of living, especially in the northeast, is so outrageous that young professionals (20-30yearolds) have no alternative then to go into some type of debt to ever get ahead and buy a house etc.

          • Molta,

I agree, throw in the outrageous cost of college and you start way behind. I have 3 kids in college, paying 80k a year, they have taken out student loans too. Why dont colleges reduce their tuition - instead we have the government wanting to give them more. They will get more and then raise the rates again. Its a vicious cycle, crazy!

kinda crazy that college costed 25k a year, then you are lucky to get a job paying 40k a year. then take away taxes, car/health insurance, student loans, credit cards, car payment, food, clothes, rent, housing related bills, etc etc. what do you have left? zero. and thats not even considering having kids or trying to actually save money....

how could anyone in my age group get ahead if their families weren't already rich?

              enough of my rant......

              • to quote the sports guy on espn:

                1. Given that we're dealing with Iraq, global warming, the sub-prime shakeout, the decline of the American dollar, the decline of the public-school system and every other troublesome reality in this country right now, it's hard to believe some of our most notable Congressmen didn't have a better way to spend this week than interrogating a disgraced Hall of Fame pitcher and the sad-sack Andy Dick lookalike who once trained him. I do not approve this usage of my tax dollars.

Move out of that area if the cost of living is that bad. Everyone bitches how NYC, Boston, So Cal are so expensive....that is cuz there are so many people living there. If you need warm, go to New Mexico or Texas. In KC/St Louis there is plenty of good priced living, you just have to be 30-40 min from downtown.

And, if you are paying 80k a year for college, you are paying way too much for undergrad. Unless they are at Harvard that is a croc. I know plenty of people who go in state, or to community colleges and get a great education.

It's not just ARM loans that got people into trouble. Mortgage companies loaning money to people that had bad credit. Mortgage companies getting houses appraised for more value than they were worth to get the people into the homes etc.

Like apolous said send them to a different school. There are really good schools out there that don't cost $25k a year.
