Coco Crisp is batting .167 this year when he bats 1st in the lineup. I just looked it up.

Youkilis is the one who should be leading off. The Red Sox need someone who can get on base in that spot for Manny and Ortiz to drive in, not someone who can move himself over. With a .415 OBP, Youk is the man for the job.

No fair on the "half the stolen bases" comment as Pierre has 50 more at-bats than Crisp.

I agree that Pierre doesn't need to hit for power as the lead-off man, but he does need to get on base and that sweet .315 OBP puts him nicely at #26 out of 30 in on-base percentage for leadoff men in the majors. Like I said, he's a nice pinch-runner.

Youk does what he does because he hits 2nd and sees great pitches batting in front of Papi. Youk needs to stay where he is and they need a CF who can "Lead Off".

c'mon, seriously? You'd take Pierre over 1 of these 4 guys?

                Ichiro
                Jose Reyes
                Grady Sizemore

Saying they are the same player is ridiculous. You need to look at the numbers compared to when they both lead off and you didn't. They are not even in the same league as a lead off hitter. If anyone should be a pinch runner, it's Crisp

I can agree with batting Youk second. It's when they move him down to the 5 hole like last night that makes you groan.

ctt, We are talking about CF's who can lead off. Who the hell cares about Rollins & Reyes?

I'd love to compare their leadoff numbers, but Crisp has all of 24 at-bats in the leadoff spot this year. Not really a fair sample size for comparison. Overall numbers make for a much better comparison.

You do what you have to when there is no DH. Everything changes.

                            HELLO!!!!

Because he looked like he never played before when he led off. They had to move him quickly because he was looking horrible. It didn't work last year either. This is not unchartered waters here with him.

Fair enough. Pierre is hitting .282 when exclusively in the lead-off spot. So that puts him 29/30 in the majors.
