The guy is a head case and a huge defensive liability.
This Zambrano thing was nothing new. Wood and Prior didnt want him catching them( when healthy--lol) and Maddux didnt want him catching him. His head wasnt right this year. From baserunning mistakes, to passed balls, etc. A local paper showed the Cubs pitchers ERA while Barret has caught them since he joined the Cubs ( not just this year) and compared it to the pitchers ERA while all the diffrent backup catchers have been behind the plate. The pitchers ERA was a run and a half higher with Barrett back there.
Embattled Chicago Cubs catcher Michael Barrett was traded to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday for backup catcher Rob Bowen and minor league outfielder Kyler Burke.
The Padres also will receive cash considerations from the Cubs.
The trade was first reported by Buster Olney of ESPN The Magazine.
League better watch out the these Pads. They have a boat load of pitchers to trade for some bats later in the year.
As a Dodgers fan, I know how good these Padres are, they seem to have a switch where they cruise along all year and put it together towards the end. Their bp is one of the best in all of baseball, immense talent. Will they finally pull the trigger and get the bats they need during the second half? Who knows as they have shown reluctance to give up that relief in the past (believe it was Meredith who they dangled last year but pulled back later)...
It is going to be a tight race in the West to the end, but believe Pads have the best pieces to get it done. Wussy Schmidt has hurt us deeply (I hated this signing in the off-season). Diamondbacks will make it interesting but believe too young and too many pitching holes to make the full run. Giants and Rockies are fillers that will make a little noise but nothing else. But in the end, I bleed Dodger Blue, so let's root for the good guys. GO DODGERS!
The worst part of the NL West is their bats. The whole division is very weak except for maybe Colorado but their pitching is weaker. The division will fight it out all year then go to the playoffs and lose because they can't score. Colletti admitted his offense was bad, S.D. never has a scary lineup and S.F. is old and slow.
Good pitching in that division but horrible lineups!

Ain't that the truth...small ball works, for a while...but I think you are right...out of all the lineups, in terms of power (if you can call it that), Dodgers seem to be best aligned with Nomar and Kent...but you can not depend on those aging stars of yesteryear...West can make it interesting and they play like the old teams of the past...but not the mold for the modern era...

True, but I still think I'd rather be San Diego averaging
4.57 runs/game with a staff ERA of 2.97 than Philadelphia averaging 5.10 runs/game with a staff ERA of 4.85.
