Obvioulsy the BCS doesn't think the money would be as much.

I disagree...you disagree...but something must be amiss with it.

    The obsession with Notre Dame?

DOn't know...but it's something cause they are the only team that has a TV contract for all they're home games.

    Notre Dame = Money
I'm not disagreeing with you. I understand why it's done. That's why I titled the thread "Another Example" .

I think it will change if ND keeps getting blown out in these bowls. I shut the game off before the end of the first quarter. I'm sure I'm not the only viewer that did so. Last night's game had to be a nightmare for Fox TV.

See now i'll be intrigued about that...because as much as notre dame is loved they are also hated and i think people would keep watching to see them get blown out.

        I don't know. A few theories.

Because of the BCS's obsession with Notre Dame? Because of the networks obsession with Notre Dame?

Most college football fans didn't believe they belonged. I don't believe that Notre Dame has the same fan base they did a decade ago. There seems to be more and more ND haters each season. When I was a kid I was a Notre Dame fan. Now I'm not a fan of any college team.

If this is such a horrible team that shouldn't be playing anywhere near new years day in a big bowl game...
Aside from the money, after last night's game and the last few bowl games you think they belong in a BCS Bowl? If you think they do then you are biased.

Do you really think many people watch football to watch a team get blown out? I don't. I think people would rather watch a Boise type game than last night's game. I know I would. For two days all we heard was how great that game was. Last night's game will be forgotten by tomorrow.

Wisonsin was not "eligible" because you can only have 2 teams from 1 conference in the BCS games. I say BS

We all know Notre Dame hasn't won a bowl game since 1994. They've now lost 9 straight bowl games.

              Here's an interesting fact....

They've been a dog in all 9 of those bowl games. The last time they won a bowl game they were favored.

The obsession? A billion Catholics in this country and it's THEIR team. If every Catholic didn't have a hard on for them, they would be in the toilet bowl. It's like, why is the National Enquirer so popular? Everyone knows it's a piece of shit paper, but they still read it. It's what the public wants. Money talks in this country, and that certainly holds true as to why ND gets a bowl bid every year and why they get their games exclusevely broadcasted EVERY week on the same network TV channel.

I wonder if the WAC or MAC signed off on that agreement? Oh wait, they don't get a chance because they aren't part of the BCS. This country would have been deprived watching Boise play in an 8 team playoff system. And my guess is, that with a playoff system, there is a risk that ND might not get a chance to play in it.

The NCAA is a money grubbing organization. It's sad, because it should be more concerned with the spirit of competition in college athletics. They are not. They are concerned with the bottom line....Money!

I'm catholic. I'm not obsessed. It's funny a few years ago the starting QB for ND was Jewish. Ron Pawless. What a bust he was.

You might not be Frank, but there are still a hell of a lot of Catholics and non Catholics that are. But I agree, it's getting less and less. There's a lot of Catholics where I live. All they talked about was ND getting in the BSC bowl game and how they were going to take down LSU. What other high profile team do the Catholics in this country cling to? BC? It's their team and their still a large force in the country. Of course, not every Catholic is obsessed. But plenty are....And as long as advertisers feel they are intersted in how that team does, then this will continue. And more than likely, ND will turn it around at some point and have a quality team. Trust me, I don't think any of this is right that they get a free pass....

As much as I respect your passion in this post.....you need to make sure you check your facts first.

What is the BCS' current contract arrangement?

The BCS operates with several contracts in play:
                      1. The BCS agreement with 11 conferences, Notre Dame and three bowl games,
                      2. A contract between the Big Ten, Pac-10, the Rose Bowl;
                      3. A Rose Bowl-ABC contract;
                      4. A contract between the BCS conferences and Notre Dame with Fox Sports.

The WAC and MAC are involved in that contract agreement...they signed along with the rest of em.

I'm sure you're right, I forgot they are now an at large conference in the BCS and have a vote, but they are not a full fledge BCS member. Thanks for the correction.

                          a few comments-

-notre dame didn't deserve a bcs bowl this year. if their name is university of south bend at indiana, they aren't there.

                          -money talks and always will

-if lsu didn't play like shit at florida this year, they'd be in the championship game

-if there was a playoff, lsu would probably end up in the title game

-until there is a playoff, we will have this conversation every year

I agree with everything you said 100% except your first comment.

Notre Dame deserved to be there again...based on the qualifications set out by the BCS committee and agreed upon by the 11 conferences!

I want someone to answer this....

Why hasn't any team or any conference had this same discussion?

If they were SOOOO undeserved...then that means that at least one team should have been there...who is that team and why in the world have they not gone on top of every mountain and bitched about it?

Notre Dame did exactly what they needed to do to get to the game they played.

You're right Rook, ND did exactly what they needed to do, which amounted to being overrated for yet another year. They didn't deserve the ranking they received and I'm sure it was biased to a certain extent. Rutgers, Wake, Ark, Va Tech, W. Virg, were all ranked below them, some with better records and faced better competition. If ND played any of those teams in a bowl game and the game was a pick'em, I'd bet against ND against every one of them. So yeah, they did what they needed to do. Blame the rating system I guess....

That's your opinion, which your entitled to...but just don't say they don't deserve to be there cause they did.

Both Human and computer polls made up the BCS rankings, so unless somehow the computers show bias which is impossible, again, I think your incorrect in that assessment.

                                Overrated, underrated, whatever.

They deserved to be there based on the criteria set before them and agreed upon.

I hope you bet against them last night and made some money.
