Just because you dont like Inge doesnt mean he isnt a player who is on pace for 30HR.......Polanco is a great #2 hitter......Guillen is a great hitter from both sides of the plate.......We can argue on this for hours but the bottom line is pitching and timely hitting and the Tigers have the best pitching. Bonderman is prolly better than any pitcher on the Yankee roster. Sure the Tigers arent sexy but I for one last year thought the White Sox were bound to collapse at some point because they didnt have a build up to what they did and now people cant get off their DICKS. I know there are still 70 games left and I am not the kind of person who says 'well the WILD CARD will come from the central so the Tigers are in'.

I just love what I see so far but I also know that a 9 game lead with 10 to play isnt safe. I also think Rogers is historically a better first half pitcher so who knows what we will get from him in the second half. Verlander has never thrown more than 130 frames so who also knows what will come from him.

One place where I do love what we have that nobody can match IMO is Leyland and Dombrowski. Dombrowski can wipe his ass with Cashman and IMO Leyland is the best MGR in the game.

Again you can blab all you want about oil changes and Pizza Hut but if yer gonna debate try to sound just a bit different from a drunk guy at 3AM

    PEACE

let me explain this to you. Detroit is having a great year. but make no mistake about it they are no WS contender. Look me up in Oct. I guess i dont know baseball. Whatever you say man.....lol You sit there and say quote "schilling can be hit" beckett looks worse and worse, wakefield....lester blah blah blah........... fact of the matter is when the chips are down. I want my $$$ on proven winners like the afore mentioned schill,beckett,wakefield.......all whom have been there before. isnt detroit like 3-10 or 3-13 vs. red sox, nyy, chi sox YTD or am i wrong??? i've been away recently so many things have changed. When D town beats the big dogs in the AL then you can run your trap about the tigers. I understand you're excited MCP but its okay.

Yeah you are right..........Red Sox won in 04.......Yanks and them are in the playoffs year in and year out but Tigers are 30 games over .500 and we play in the toughest division in baseball........nobody knows where we will end up in October and if we did we put all our loot on it. But I have to admit I would take the Tigers at this point over any team in the majors. Anyone can tell me lets see what they do in October because nobody knows......this team has never been competitive past June for 6 years and havent been competive in September for 13 years and havent made the playoffs in 19 years. Every team has flaws and possible weaknesses so who knows.......thats the beauty of it.

But lets admit it, Schilling can be hit, Wakefield has a bad back and Beckett is suckin right now and Lester wins but gets in trouble every single inning. Sure the Red Sox have the best 3-4 combo in the game and the best closer right now and they score.

Yanks have a couple of nice arms with Mussina and Wang and Johnson has been Jeckyll and Hyde and they have tons of bats but truth be told since they started spending like crazy they havent won shit. White Sox came outta nowhere and won the thing last year and if anything they are better now but they also have some cracks in the starting rotation.

Its gettin better and better by the day and hopefully my Tigers will atleast make the playoffs an possibly be the kast team standing

        PEACE

One thing that I was not even aware of until I checked it out is that the Tigers are 1-5 against the Whote Sox meaning there are a combined 3-10 against The White Sox, Yanks and Red Sox.
When a team has the best record in baseball and yet has failed so miserably so far against three of the best teams, at the very least it calls into question as to how good the Tigers really are; I don't think that is an unfair statement.
I think Tigers are a good team, but until they prove they can handle the top tier teams, in my book that is all they are -good.

i like the tigers, in fact i have mags and thames on my fantasy team. i think bonderman is a great pitcher. they could and prolly will be in the post season, which from a year ago is a vast improvement. i IMO think they are still 1yr away from taking a hold on the AL central. chi sox just too good.

Mtrcity other than jair jurrjens, who is their best minor league prospect, humberto sanchez who to me is still a scrub who is lucky with run support who on their minor league staff can you name that will make an impact in the future...to me miner, verlander, and zumaya were their minor league pitchers other than that you have a normal farm camp

You need to put down the Kool-Aid buddy! No stars when Florida won 2 titles??? R U SERIOUS??

They had alot of people blossom into stars from the 2nd title BUT they bought the 1st won dude! Do i need to start naming star after star on that team???

It was a ridiculous lineup and staff that won and then the 1st of 2 fire sales took place.

                That statement is simply false!

tata, sanchez, larrison, clevlen, larrish, sleeth and maybin who are down on the farm. ledezma and colon who are with us now. That jurrens I had never even heard of till you mentioned him and I know sanchez has been dominant on the farm so I have no idea why you say he is benefiting from run support. I know all of these players draw major interest from other teams BIG TIME.

This is just a crazy statement too. I realize you are not a Sox fan but C'MON!!!!!

This guy is talked about daily on the national scene and he is a Rookie closing in the Pressure Cooker called Boston.

He has pitched MORE than 1 inning 10 Times this year and 3 times he went 2+. He has 7 one run saves, 9 two run saves and 10 three run saves BUT, in 3 of those 3 run saves it was a 1 or 2 run lead in the 8th with the opposing team batting and men on base. He got out of it and the Sox added to their lead in the 9th before he finished it off. That is quite deceiving unless you look deeper like i did.

The kid has only given up 2, count 'em, 2 Earned Runs ALL YEAR in 44.0 innings pitched. Please take a minute and think about that while remembering he is a ROOKIE Closer in Boston.

He has only given up 1 HR all year.

He averages 1 Walk every 5 1/2 innings pitched (8 total this year).

He averages 1 Strikeout every inning pitched (45 K's this season in 44 innings).

He has the best WHIP in baseball at 0.68

He has the Best ERA in baseball at 0.41

To even attempt to argue Papelbon right now is crazy. I don't care how big a lead he has 'cause he can't control that. When he does come in, in ANY situation though ... He is LIGHTS OUT!!!

Yeah Yeah Yeah Quit rubbing it in lol.. I said it and i meant every word I said.. He is the Best that there is RIGHT NOW.. I agree that with this being his rookie year that things could change in a hurry BUT if i were an owner of ANY team out there I would pick this kid up in a heartbeat.. Sure he has a long way to go to even be close to comparing him with Rivera because IMO he is the best that there has ever been at the Closer position but IF there is anyone out there that I would want to take Sandmans place when he leaves that would be PAP in a freaking heartbeat.. IF he doesnt become a flash in a pan he will be the next Rivera without a doubt.. Damn that makes me sick to type this but its the truth

Ortiz and Manny are great and as long as they are there they can hit but good pitching always gets good hitting.

Tigers are the team to beat once as far as I am concerned.....top to bottom.....pitching and hitting and we have the most in the minors once we choose to make a move. Jones will not be closing games once they mean something......you can count on that.

                          BWAAAAAAAAA!

MCP, you are drinking way too much Tiger Koolaid! Tigers are a very nice team and obviously one of the best in baseball right now, but the team to beat? This is the same bunch of guys that last 100+ games a year ago and now you call them 'the team to beat'? Can they make the playoffs first and pop their cherry before you call them the king of the mountain? Give me a break! 'Schilling is hittable'? His numbers are as good if not better than each of the top 3 starters for Detroit...so are they all hittable? 'Beckett looks worse and worse'? His ERA has come down a half a run in the last month! And who do you want pitching in a big playoff game or a big game in September? Kenny Rogers or Beckett? You want a guy that has proven he cannot pitch under pressure or do you want a guy that was an World Series MVP? And as for your JOURNEYMAN closer...you want us to believe he will close games when it matters but yet Schilling his hittable and Beckett is getting worse...c'mon MCP...put the koolaid down! That is rather comical!

And on a seperate note that means nothing in the win column...still waiting for their fans to support their team! 16th in attendance and avg 32,000 for their last 3 game series...could they sell out a playoff game?

Wrong info...2 yrs ago...but the point is you can't expect this team to go from perennial losers to the team to beat in 1-2 seasons. Let them win a division or a playoff series first before you have these lofty expectations.

I totally agree about the Tiggers. Seattle won like 112 games or something a few years ago and exited quickly. I don't trust Detroit's pitching against World Series seasoned pitching OR their lineup against the relentleess Sox & Sox or Yanks!

You and me are on the same page...Tigers look great, but these guys need to get a little playoff-type experience before we call them the team to beat. Very few, if any of them have played in an important game past July 15. And to expect thewm to hold up and not wilt with their first experience is asking a lot.
