6) Belmont star Dylan Windler fell thru the cracks of the recruiting system and wound up at Belmont mainly because he only played AAU ball for a little while.

Windler is a 1-handicapper on the golf course, so he was teeing it up in the summer instead of running around the AAU circuit, and he went largely unnoticed, because that is how recruiting works, for better or worse.

5) Lakers’ Brandon Ingram has a blood clot in his shoulder, is expected to miss the rest of this season. Lonzo Ball is also supposed to miss the rest of the season.

4) Not sure why all the Antonio Brown news breaks after midnight, but looks like the unhappy WR is being dealt to the Raiders, for 3rd-round and 5th round draft picks.

The final day of the college basketball regular season gets things started with a big showdown in the AAC between No. 12 Houston and the No. 20 Cincinnati Bearcats at Fifth Third Arena.

In the first of two season-ending tilts in the Big Ten, Iowa goes on the road to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Later on Sunday afternoon, the No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers close things out in a road game against Ohio State.

Betting Matchup

The Cougars beat Cincinnati 65-58 on Feb. 10 as 4 ½-point home favorites and they currently hold a one-game lead over their AAC rivals in the conference standings at 15-2 straight-up. They come into this rematch at 28-2 SU overall with an 18-10-2 record against the spread. After failing to cover as a 12 ½-point home favorite in Thursday’s 90-79 win against SMU, Houston slipped to 2-3-1 ATS over its last six games. Corey Davis Jr. scored 17 points in Thursday’s win. The senior guard is averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game.

Thursday’s 58-55 loss to Central Florida as 2 ½-point road underdogs snapped the Bearcats’ recent five-game SU winning streak. They have failed to cover the closing number in their last seven games as part of a costly 6-12 record ATS in AAC play. Cincinnati is 25-5 SU overall with a 12-18 mark ATS. The total stayed UNDER 126 ½ points in Thursday’s loss and it has stayed UNDER in seven of its last eight contests. It is 4-5 SU on the road this season with a 3-6 record ATS. Going back to their last three losses, the Hawkeyes have been outscored by a combined 54 points against Ohio State, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

With just two SU wins in their last 13 games, the Cornhuskers have sunk to 5-14 SU in conference play. In their current four-game slide, they have lost three of those games by double figures. South Florida made 11-25 on arc in its 67-66 win at SMU Feb 7; Bulls won last two series games, after losing seven of first eight AAC meetings with the Mustangs. Teams split four meetings in Tampa. Missouri Valley tournament, St Louis
This is #5-seed vs #6-seed for MVC title; winner is likely headed to Dayton for a play-in game. Road team won both Bradley-Northern Iowa games this season; teams split last six series tilts. Bradley won four in row, eight of last 10 games; they’ve won two games in same MVC tourney for first time since losing final to SIU in ’06- Braves won last two days by total of five points. Bradley played four kids 30:00+ yesterday. UNI won six of its last eight games after starting 5-7 in Valley; they’ve won this event four times in last 10 years, last winning it 2016.

Southern Conference tournament, Asheville, NC

13) Houston 85, Cincinnati 69— Cougars were very impressive in second half; they’re 29-2 now and will be a popular sleeper to make the Final Four. Not even sure they would qualify as a sleeper— Joe Lunardi has them listed as a #3-seed in his last listing.

12) Bradley 57, Northern Iowa 54— Braves were down 18 early in second half, rallied to win first MVC title since 1988— they’re in NCAA’s for first time since 2006.

11) MAAC semis: It’ll be Monmouth vs Iona in the finals tonight.

Iona won this tournament the last three years; Monmouth started this season 0-12, won their last pre-conference game, then went 10-8 in the MAAC, finishing in 6th place.

10) SoCon semis: It’ll be Wofford vs NC-Greensboro in the finals tonight. Wofford is now 20-0 in conference games this year. I’m thinking they’re in the NCAA’s no matter what, but for the sake of their nervous systems over the next week, winning tonight would be good.

9) Gardner-Webb 76, Radford 65— Bulldogs are in NCAA’s for first time ever; they were a 7-point underdog in this game. Gardner-Webb is located in Boiling Springs, NC.

Gardner-Webb won at both Wake Forest, Georgia Tech this year; they lost by 12 at VCU, by 28 at Virginia Tech.

8) Wisconsin 73, Ohio State 67 OT— Badgers led this game by 23, blew the lead, but survived and get the #4 seed in Big 14 tournament.

7) Suns 115, Warriors 111— Golden State lost and Kevin Durant hurt his ankle. Bad night.

6) Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays renewed the contract of ace and Cy Young winner Blake Snell; they will pay him $573,700 this coming season, not much above his $558,200 salary from last year. The minimum salary increased $10,000 to $555,000 this year, so Snell’s $15,500 raise is really only $5,500.

5) Los Angeles Lakers have 156-320 record over the past six years, which is the worst record in the NBA during that time.

4) Former Wisconsin QB Alex Hornibrook transferred to Florida State; he was 26-6 in three seasons as the starter for the Badgers, leading them to the Orange Bowl following the 2017 season. Florida State finished 10th in the ACC last year in both passing efficiency at 125.77 and completion percentage at 57.1;

3) San Diego Padres attempted 36 stolen bases in their first 16 spring training games, so looks like the Friars will be running a lot more than they have recently. Orioles are second this spring, with 26 attempted steals.

2) OF Adam Jones signed a one-year, $3M deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Monday's WCC Semifinals

Championship Week in college basketball gets things started with a doubleheader of tournament action this Monday night in the West Coast Conference Semifinals from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The first game on the slate pits the surprising Pepperdine Waves against the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs. The San Diego Toreros have also made an unexpected run to the WCC semifinals to face No. 2 Saint Mary’s-California.

Pepperdine Waves vs. No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs (ESPN , 9 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Gonzaga -23 ½, Total 157

Betting Matchup

Pepperdine finished in eighth in the WCC regular season standings at 6-10 straight-up with a losing 16-17 record overall. Drawing No. 9 Pacific in the opening round, the Waves came away with a 61-53 victory as slight 1 ½-point favorites. They went on to beat Loyola Marymount 68-65 as 4 ½-point underdogs before stunning San Francisco 89-72 in Saturday’s quarterfinals as eight-point underdogs.

Pepperdine is now 6-3 against the spread over its last nine games. Colbey Ross has been a force during this current three-game run. The Sophomore guard leads the team in scoring with 19.4 points per game and he has combined for 46 points in his last two starts.

The top-seeded Bulldogs have been resting on the sidelines during the first three rounds of this tournament after cruising to a perfect 16-0 SU run through the regular season. Gonzaga won all 16 games by double figures, but it slipped to 9-7 ATS after failing to cover in four of its last six contests. Overall, it is 29-2 SU with a 20-11 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of its last four games.

In their first meeting against Pepperdine this season, the Bulldogs failed to cover as heavy 28 ½-point home favorites in a 92-64 victory on Feb. 21. Junior forward Rui Hachimura is Gonzaga’s leading scorer this season with 20.6 PPG. He scored a game-high 23 points in that earlier win against the Waves.

-- The Waves have covered in their last four neutral-site games and they are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against teams with a SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in six of their last seven Monday games.

-- The Bulldogs are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 Monday games and they are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games coming off a win ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in 10 of their last 13 games following an ATS win.

-- The favorite in this series has gone 24-9-3 over the past 36 meetings. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last six matchups.

San Diego hammered BYU 80-57 on Saturday as a 3 ½-point underdog to advance to Monday’s semifinal round. As the No. 7 seed, it opened the tournament with a 67-47 romp over Portland as a 13-point favorite. The Toreros (20-13 SU, 17-15 ATS) also covered as 5 ½-point favorites in Friday’s 62-45 victory against Santa Clara. The total stayed UNDER the closing line in all three games.

San Diego went 7-9 SU in the WCC regular season with an even 8-8 record ATS. Two of those losses (SU and ATS) came against St. Mary’s by a combined 37 points. The total stayed UNDER in both losses.

The Gaels’ recent SU five-game winning streak came to an end with a 69-55 loss to Gonzaga as 9 ½-point home underdogs in their regular season finale. Going back to a SU road loss to BYU on Jan. 24, Saint Mary’s (20-11 SU, 17-14 ATS) has failed to cover in eight of its last 11 games with the total staying UNDER in each of its last seven contests. It went 11-5 SU in conference play with a 7-9 record ATS.

Junior guard Jordan Ford has been the Gaels’ leading scorer this season with 21.5 PPG. He recently posted 21 points against San Diego on Feb. 23 in a 66-46 romp.

-- The Toreros are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Monday games and they have covered in four of their last five games played at a neutral site. The total has stayed UNDER in 10 of their last 14 neutral-site games.

-- The Gaels have failed to cover in seven of their last nine games at a neutral site, but they improve to 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a SU loss. The total has stayed UNDER in their last four games against a SU winning team.

-- St. Mary’s has an 8-3 record both SU and ATS in its last 11 games against San Diego with the total staying UNDER in the last five games.

Conference tournaments for some of the smaller leagues have already started, while the big boys get underway in the upcoming week. Selection Sunday is less than a week to go, as March Madness is about to kick off full bore. Some teams are finishing up the regular season strong, while a couple are starting to wilt under the pressure. It looks like it is going to be a wide open NCAA Tournament, and we'll get a much better idea of who the contenders or pretenders are during the conference tournaments.

Marquette (23-8 SU, 18-13 ATS) picked a bad time for their worst basketball of the season. The Golden Eagles are in freefall, dropping four consecutive games, or exactly half of their season's losses since Feb. 27. If you're fading Marquette lately, good for you. They have failed to cover in each of their losses and six of the past nine. The 'under' has also been a frequent occurrence for Marquette, cashing in four of the past five, while going 10-4-1 across the past 15 outings.

Cincinnati (23-8 SU, 18-13 ATS) is another team skidding toward the finish line. They dropped games this week to Houston (29-2 SU, 20-10-1 ATS) and UCF (23-7 SU, 18-11-1 ATS) picked, and they have failed to cover in eight straight games. Total bettors will like the fact the 'under' is 5-1 in the past six, and 7-2 across the past nine outings. They were swept in two regular-season games while going 0-2 ATS in two games against the Cougars, and they split the regular-season games with the Knights while also posting an 0-2 ATS mark. Remember that for the AAC Tournament next week. The AAC is looking like a three-bid league for the NCAA Tournament, possibly four if the committee shows Temple (23-8 SU, 15-14-2 ATS) some love. The Owls just cooled off the Knights over the weekend to enhance their resume'.

Wofford (28-4 SU, 18-11 ATS) is looking like a team no one is going to want to draw in the Big Dance. The Terriers continue to mow down opponents in the SoCon, and they'll look to cap off their perfect conference season in the league final on Monday against UNC Greensboro (28-5 SU, 14-15-2 ATS). The Terriers rolls into Monday's game with a 10-1 ATS mark in the past 11 outings, and they haven't lost in the regular season since Dec. 19. UNCG probably deserves an NCAA Tournament bid, win or lose, although they likely need the win more than Wofford, who probably can afford a loss while still getting in with an at-large bid. The Spartans took care of once-ranked Furman (25-7 SU, 19-10 ATS), moving to 2-0-1 ATS over the past three.

Duke (26-5 SU, 17-14 ATS) slipped in the Battle of the Blues on Saturday night, falling to rival North Carolina (26-5 SU, 19-10-2 ATS) for the second time this season. Fans everywhere would love to see what would happen with a healthy Zion Williamson (knee), and that could still possibly happen in the ACC Tournament. Virginia (28-2 SU, 22-8 ATS) is also in the mix for a No. 1 seed, and it's conceivable the ACC could land two teams on the one-line, and perhaps even three. The Hoos have been the best against the spread, cashing in five of the past six outings while the 'over' has hit in three of the past four.

Michigan State (25-6 SU, 22-9 ATS) knocked off Michigan (26-5 SU, 17-14 ATS) to claim the Big Ten regular-season title. It didn't look like it was going to happen, even as recently as a week ago, when Indiana (17-14 SU, 14-16 ATS) completed the sweep of Sparty. Michigan State is still an impressive 6-2 ATS over the past eight outings, and the 'over' has cashed in three of the past four outings. Purdue (23-8 SU, 17-13-1 ATS) came alive down the stretch, and they will be a tough out in the postseason, too. The Boilermakers have covered three of the past four to wrap up the regular season after a tough 0-3-1 ATS run.
