  • Ichiro keeps 'em guessing about future
    March 18, 2019
    By The Associated Press

TOKYO (AP) This is the Ichiro effect.

Richard Snitzer had never been to Japan. What finally drove the Japanese-American to travel here from his home in Hayward, California, was Ichiro Suzuki; not family ties, not pure wanderlust, but a chance to see a player he called ''simply the best.''

And get this. He's not even a Mariners fan, which he's advertised by wearing his A's jersey around the Tokyo Dome.

He'll be there Wednesday when Major League Baseball opens the 2019 season with Seattle facing Oakland to start a two-game series. The 45-year-old Ichiro is expected to play in both. What happens next? Ichiro isn't saying.

One thing is sure. It will be great theater.

''I'll have my phone ready to go, and I'll shoot and stand up and applaud when he bats,'' Snitzer said. ''I just hope he doesn't get the winning hit against the A's. If he hits a home run that doesn't affect the game, I'll be thrilled.''

A's pitcher Liam Hendriks probably spoke for both teams.

''We're just happy to be along for the ride,'' he said. ''I can't wait for the opening series when they announce Ichiro and hear that crowd.''

Chances are, most baseball fans in other places will be asleep when A's right-hander Mike Fiers throws the first pitch of the year - around 5:30 a.m. EDT.

That's OK, there will be plenty of time for everyone to catch up before the other 28 teams open on March 28 at Yankee Stadium, Dodger Stadium and points in-between. Plenty to see, too, in a season that will stretch to end of October - Bryce Harper now batting in Philly, the Boston Red Sox trying to repeat as World Series champions and more talk about changing how the game is played.

In the meantime, Ichiro slipped into Tokyo's Haneda airport on Friday under the cover of a gray and black cap pulled way down. He's been highly visible since then; at a rare news conference, showing off in practice with trick catches in right field, and signing autographs to fans lining the foul lines before exhibition games against the Tokyo Giants.

Almost the only shirts for sale in the Tokyo Dome are Ichiro models. And they're not cheap: between $35-45 for a T-shirt, $62 for a sweat shirt, and a baseball with No. 51 goes for $30.

''Yes, we are selling well because Ichiro is a man of effort,'' said Yu Takamiya, a vendor answering questions through his translator app.

Ichiro told reporters on Saturday that - based on spring training - he's lucky to be here. He hit .080 in Arizona, and he hasn't played a regular-season game in a year. He was 0 for 6 in two exhibition games against the Tokyo Giants. They don't count officially. But if they did, he's hitting .065.

''This is a great gift for me,'' he said a day after arriving. ''I will treasure every moment here on the field. One week after this event, I will be reflecting back on these days.''

A's manager Bob Melvin knows Ichiro well from managing the Mariners 15 years ago.

''There are certain guys that create that kind of buzz,'' Melvin said. ''He's used to it, but it's going to be a long few days for him. Once he gets on the field, that's when you just do your thing and insulate.''

Melvin recalled Ichiro's relentless training. It hasn't changed. Ichiro was alone running across the outfield in several practices in Tokyo.

''As far as playing and preparing, there was nobody better,'' Melvin said.

A's outfielder Stephen Piscotty, making his first visit to Japan, called Ichiro ''a master.''

''He still in control of his destiny here,'' Piscotty said. ''He's pretty special and it's an honor to be on the field with him. Obviously you look around, and you see how important baseball is in Japan, and Ichiro's a part of that.''

Other key parts of the upcoming season:

    ROSTER RESHUFFLING

Bryce Harper was the biggest name to change places since last season, leaving the Nationals and signing a record $330 million, 13-year contract with Philadelphia. The Phillies were especially busy, adding J.T. Realmuto, Jean Segura, Andrew McCutchen and David Robertson. Also on the move were Manny Machado (Padres), Paul Goldschmidt (Cardinals), Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz (Mets), Nelson Cruz (Twins), Patrick Corbin (Nationals) and Josh Donaldson (Braves).

But another slow market for many free agents meant All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel and former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel didn't have jobs on the brink of a new season.

    HIYA, SKIP!

New Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo quickly showed he's all for trying new strategy - he played a four-man outfield defense against Harper in spring training. There are six new skippers in the majors this year: Montoyo, David Bell (Reds), Rocco Baldelli (Twins), Chris Woodward (Rangers) and Brandon Hyde (Orioles) are doing this for the first time in the bigs, Brad Ausmus (Angels) has experience.

    NEW RULES

Despite a lot of discussion, nothing major for this season. No prohibition on shifts, no pitch clocks, and no requirement for pitchers to face at least three batters until next year. No robot umpires for now. One change could affect pennant races this summer - no trades after July 31, so no more deals in late August for an extra player in the postseason.

    REPEAT AFTER ME

It's been quite a while since a team won back-to-back crowns - the Yankees were the last to do it, taking their third straight title in 2000. Now, AL MVP Mookie Betts and the Red Sox will try to stop baseball's longest gap without a repeat champion. Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers, meanwhile, will try to avoid becoming the first team to lose three straight World Series since star pitcher Christy Mathewson, famed manager John McGraw and the New York Giants fell in 1911-13.

    OPENING NEXT

After the Mariners and A's leave Japan, they'll return to the United States to finish out spring training games. Then everyone is in action for regular season play on March 28. Among the matchups: Red Sox at Seattle, Baltimore at Yankee Stadium and Arizona at Dodger Stadium. Also, the Cubs will play at Texas - this will be the Rangers' last season at the park they opened in 1994 before moving into a nearby new home next year.

    • 'Rookie' Kikuchi in spotlight in major league debut in Japan
      March 16, 2019
      By The Associated Press

TOKYO (AP) Talk about a pressure situation.

Just as he was adjusting to life in the United States, Yusei Kikuchi is back in Japan getting ready to make his major league pitching debut in front of a sellout crowd at Tokyo Dome.

From his new teammates, to his Japanese fans to his family and friends, everyone will be expecting Kikuchi to come up with a dominant performance when he takes the mound for the Seattle Mariners on Thursday in Game 2 of the season-opening series against the Oakland A's.

''I never thought I would be making my debut in Japan,'' Kikuchi said in Japanese. ''It's like a dream come true. It's a new season for the team and new start for me so I want to pitch my best.''

In January, Kikuchi signed a four-year, $56 million deal with the Mariners that incudes club options that could make it worth $109 million over seven seasons.

And if the pressure of opening the season in Japan wasn't enough, Kikuchi is following in the footsteps of American League rookie of the year Shohei Ohtani. The two players are graduates of the same high school in Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan.

Seattle manager Scott Servais said he didn't hesitate to give the 27-year-old lefthander such a big assignment.

''Early on in camp, it was easy for me to see he was more than capable of handling everything we could throw at him,'' Servais said. ''His ability to continue to attack the strike zone with all his pitches is really going to be important throughout the season. I see no reason why he can't go out here and have a really good outing his first time out.''

Servais has said Kikuchi's biggest challenge will be adjusting to a more grueling MLB schedule.

Teams in Japan only play a 144-game season compared to 162 in the majors and the longest travel time between cities in Japan is less than two hours by plane.

The goal is to keep Kikuchi in the rotation all season but the Mariners may limit his innings on occasions to help with that.

And when it comes to getting advice on adjusting to the majors, Kikuchi couldn't have a better mentor than teammate and veteran Ichiro Suzuki.

''My teammates, members of the pitching staff have all given me their kind input and Ichiro-san has also given me some advice,'' Kikuchi said at a press conference.

Just for the record, Ichiro made it clear that he wasn't telling his young compatriot what to do.

''I gave him advice because he asked for it, I didn't volunteer it,'' Ichiro said, drawing a big laugh from Kikuchi.

The Mariners have traded several notable veterans this off season while building a roster with younger prospects. Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto is hoping Kikuchi will fit perfectly in his plans.

Last season, Kikuchi helped the Seibu Lions finish with the best record in the Pacific League in Nippon Professional Baseball when he went 14-4 and struck out 153 batters over 163-2/3 innings.

He has a career record of 73 wins, 46 losses and one save with a 2.77 ERA.

Kikuchi pitched Hanamaki-Higashi High School to Iwate's first national final at Koshien Stadium in the 2009 Spring Invitational. The following autumn, he met with representatives of at least eight big league clubs that were interested in signing him.

In October, six teams named him as their top pick in Japanese baseball's annual amateur draft, with the Lions winning his negotiating rights in a draft-day lottery.

Throughout his professional career, Kikuchi has established a reputation as Japan's hardest-throwing left-handed starter.

In addition to a four-seam fastball and a slider, he also throws a curve and a change, and has experimented with a split-fingered fastball and a two-seam sinking fastball.

Left-handers from Japan are a bit of a rarity in the majors. Kazuhisa Ishii enjoyed success with the Los Angeles Dodgers between 2002 and 2004 while Kei Igawa was a big disappointment for the New York Yankees over two seasons from 2007.

Oakland manager Bob Melvin knows Kikuchi will present a challenge for his young team.

''They kind of a have a home- field advantage here with Ichiro and Kikuchi,'' Melvin said. ''We've seen some limited video of (Kikuchi) so we know he's good...this will be our first taste of him so it's going to be exciting especially here at Tokyo Dome.''

          Kevin Rogers

Game of the Night: Lakers at Bucks (-11 ½, 230) – 8:05 PM EST

It’s not often that this showcase features a game with a double-digit spread. The Lakers (31-39 SU, 27-41-2 ATS) continue to spiral out of control with the latest embarrassment coming in Sunday’s 124-123 setback to the Knicks as 4 ½-point favorites. L.A. allowed New York to score 41 first point quarter points, while the game-winning attempt from LeBron James in the final seconds was rejected by New York’s Mario Hezonja to send the Lakers to 1-8 in the last nine games.

The Bucks (52-18 SU, 41-26-3 ATS) suffered only their sixth home loss of the season in Sunday’s 130-125 home setback to the 76ers as six-point favorites. Giannis Antetokounmpo put together a career-high 52 points for Milwaukee, along with 19 made free throws and 16 rebounds. However, the Bucks couldn’t erase a nine-point halftime deficit in spite of scoring 43 points in the fourth quarter (but allowed 41 points).

Milwaukee owns an incredible 16-1 record off a loss this season with the only defeat coming at Phoenix on March 4 as 13-point favorites in a 114-105 defeat. The Bucks have not lost back-to-back games at Fiserv Forum this season, but Milwaukee has put together a 7-6 ATS record as a favorite of 11 points or more.

The Lakers will look to avenge a 131-120 home loss to the Bucks on March 1 as 5 ½-point underdogs. Los Angeles built a six-point halftime lead, but was outscored in the second half, 72-55, while the total sailed OVER 240. Eric Bledsoe paced the Bucks with 31 points, while James paced the Lakers with 31 points, as L.A. tries to snap an 0-5 SU/ATS run in the underdog role this evening.

However, the Lakers will have to beat the Bucks without their star as James is sidelined with a groin injury. Los Angeles owns a 6-13 SU and 8-10-1 ATS mark without James this season, but picked up two covers as double-digit underdogs in this span. Antetokounmpo is also out for the Bucks with a sprained ankle, as Milwaukee is 3-2 SU/ATS without the "Greek Freak" this season.

          76ers (-1 ½, 224) at Hornets – 7:05 PM EST

It’s highly unlikely that Philadelphia and Charlotte will hook up in the opening round of the playoffs, but that’s good news for the Sixers. Philadelphia (45-25 SU, 33-37 ATS) has won all three games against Charlotte (31-38 SU, 31-37-1 ATS) by a combined five points, including a pair of overtime victories. The 76ers have captured nine consecutive meetings with the Hornets dating back to January 2017, including four straight covers at Spectrum Center.

The Hornets limp home from a 1-3 road trip with three losses by double-digits at Milwaukee, Houston, and Miami. Charlotte’s offense dried up on Sunday in a 93-75 setback to the Heat as the Hornets scored only 36 points in the second half, while hitting 7-of-36 attempts from three-point range. The Hornets have lost 12 of their past 17 games, while covering just four times in this span.

The 76ers picked up their fourth consecutive victory in Sunday’s 130-125 triumph at Milwaukee, which snapped a two-game road skid. Joel Embiid posted a 40-point, 15-rebound effort in Sunday’s win, while Jimmy Butler scored 27 points to help the 76ers forge above the .500 mark on the road (17-16). However, Embiid will sit out tonight for the 76ers, missing his ninth game since the All-Star break.

Following an eight-game UNDER stretch, Philadelphia has hit the OVER in two straight contests, as Sunday’s shootout at Milwaukee ended a four-game UNDER run away from Wells Fargo Center.

          Rockets (-7 ½, 231 ½) at Hawks – 7:35 PM EST

          Houston (44-26 SU, 32-36-1 ATS)
is continuing to make a push for the top seed in the Western Conference as the Rockets have won 10 of their past 11 games following Sunday’s 117-102 home victory over Minnesota. The Rockets enter tonight’s action 3 ½ games behind both Golden State and Denver for the number one seed in the West. Houston actually received balanced scoring as Chris Paul hit 6-of-7 three-point attempts and scored 25 points, while James Harden surprisingly did not lead the Rockets in points by posting 20 on 8-of-24 shooting. The Rockets cashed their seventh UNDER in the last eight games, while not allowing more than 106 points in each game during this run.

The Hawks (24-47 SU, 35-36 ATS) have played better at home of late by beating the Pelicans and Grizzlies, while owning a strong 6-1 ATS record in the past seven contests as a home underdog. Atlanta hung with Houston in the first matchup at Toyota Center as 12 ½-point underdogs in a 119-111 loss last month. Since the start of January, the Rockets have compiled a 1-6-1 ATS mark in their eight opportunities as a road favorite.

          Warriors (-6 ½, 229 ½) at Wolves – 8:05 PM EST

Golden State (47-22 SU, 28-40-1 ATS) lost for the first time on its four-game road trip in Monday’s 111-105 setback at San Antonio. The Warriors knocked off the Rockets and Thunder to start this trip, but the Splash Brothers couldn’t throw one in the water last night as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined to shoot 14-of-43 from the floor for 39 points. Curry did drill a 61-footer to end the first quarter following an 0-of-7 start, but the Warriors failed to cover for the fourth straight time as a road favorite.

The Warriors head to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves (32-38 SU, 34-36 ATS), who are in a tough scheduling spot after suffering their eighth straight road loss and return home for one game. Minnesota lost all three games by double-digits on its road trip at Denver, Utah, and Houston, while failing to cover in all three defeats as an underdog of 9 to 9 ½ points. The Wolves hit the highway again after tonight for two games at Charlotte and Memphis, but Minnesota has won six consecutive games at Target Center.

Golden State captured the first two meetings with Minnesota at Oracle Arena this season, but the Wolves have won the last two matchups at Target Center, including a 109-103 victory last March as a 3 ½-point underdog.

          Nets at Kings (-3 ½, 233) – 10:05 PM EST

The long schedule has caught up with both these up and coming squads as each team is slumping of late. Brooklyn (36-36 SU, 38-34 ATS) has lost the first three games of a seven-game road swing to the Thunder, Jazz, and Clippers, while blowing significant leads in the defeats to Oklahoma City and Los Angeles. The Nets managed a cover as 5 ½-point underdogs at Staples Center on Sunday, snapping a four-game ATS slide away from Barclays Center.

Sacramento (34-35 SU, 41-27-1 ATS) ended a three-game skid in Sunday’s 129-102 home blowout over Chicago to grab the season sweep over the Bulls. The Kings grabbed their third straight cover following close losses to the Celtics and 76ers on the road, as Sacramento seeks back-to-back wins for the first time since the All-Star break. Sacramento was blown out at Brooklyn in its first matchup this season at Barclays Center, 123-94 as 3 ½-point underdogs in late January as the Nets outscored the Kings, 30-9 in the fourth quarter.

          Pacers at Clippers (-5, 219 ½) – 10:35 PM EST

Indiana (44-27 SU, 36-35 ATS) heads to Los Angeles with no rest tonight after Monday’s 106-98 defeat at Portland. The Pacers dropped their sixth straight road contest since late February, while extending their UNDER streak to seven games as Indiana’s offense has scored 100 points or less in each of its past four contests away from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Clippers (41-30 SU, 40-31 ATS) wrap up a six-game homestand after rallying past the Bulls and Nets in the last two wins. Los Angeles has failed to cash in the last three games, but the Clippers own a solid 7-1 record in March. The Clippers have dropped five straight meetings with the Pacers since 2016, including a 116-92 drubbing at Indiana last month.

Indiana enters tonight’s action at 9-3 SU/ATS with no rest, although the Pacers have played on a back-to-back on the road only once since the All-Star break by beating Washington, 119-112 on February 23.

              • Warriors top Timberwolves 117-107, regain 1st in conference
                March 19, 2019
                By The Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) D'Angelo Russell scored 27 of his career-high 44 points in the fourth quarter, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson made a layup with eight-tenths of a second remaining, and the Brooklyn Nets rallied from 28 points down in the second half to beat the Sacramento Kings 123-121 on Tuesday night and snap a four-game losing streak.

Brooklyn was sluggish and out of sync for three quarters before Russell sparked the Nets' biggest comeback of the season.

After scoring 17 points in the first half and going without a point in the third quarter, Russell shot 10 of 15 in the fourth quarter, repeatedly burning Sacramento's defense with quick drives to the basket. Russell also had four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, breaking Allen Crabbe's single-season record of 201 set last season. Russell has 202.

Hollis-Jefferson had 14 points off the bench, and none more important than his game-winning layup after Sacramento's Marvin Bagley III stepped out of bounds with 5.5 seconds left.

Hollis-Jefferson took the inbound pass from Joe Harris and looked for Russell, who was being double-teamed. With the clock winding down, Hollis-Jefferson drove from near the 3-point arc and went around a Kings defender near the hoop to score.

Jarrett Allen added 13 points and seven rebounds for Brooklyn. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 10 points.

De'Aaron Fox scored 27 points for Sacramento. Marvin Bagley had 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting for the Kings (35-35). Nemanja Bjelica added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Harrison Barnes scored 17.

                WARRIORS 117, TIMBERWOLVES 107

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Stephen Curry scored 22 of his 36 points in the third quarter and Klay Thompson pitched in with 28 points as Golden State beat fading Minnesota and regained first place in the Western Conference.

Jonas Jerebko added 18 points, Kevin Durant scored 17 points and Draymond Green had 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Warriors (48-22), who bounced back from a loss at San Antonio on Monday and moved a half-game ahead of Denver (47-22) in the race for the top seed. The Nuggets were idle.

Curry went 8 for 14 from 3-point range, pushing him past the 300 mark for the third time in four seasons.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 points and 21 rebounds, Andrew Wiggins totaled 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Josh Okogie had 19 points for the Timberwolves, who lost their fourth straight game.

                CLIPPERS 115, PACERS 109

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Danilo Gallinari scored 24 points, Montrezl Harrell had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Los Angeles prevented Indiana from clinching a playoff berth.

Clinging to a 110-107 lead, Lou Williams hit a jumper with 40 seconds left to stop a 5-0 run by Indiana.

Tyreke Evans and Bojanc Bogdanovic scored 19 points each for the Pacers, whose road skid extended to seven straight games. Doug McDermott added 17 points and Domantas Sabonis had 13 points and a career-high-tying 16 rebounds playing the second night of a back-to-back.

                BUCKS 115, LAKERS 101

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Khris Middleton scored 30 points and Brook Lopez added 28 as Milwaukee beat Los Angeles.

Milwaukee played without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is nursing an injured ankle, while LeBron James sat out for Los Angeles due to a sore groin.

Nikola Mirotic added 23 points for Milwaukee, which improved to an NBA-best 53-18.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had a season-high 35 points for the Lakers, three off his career best. Kyle Kuzma added 17 points. Los Angeles has lost four consecutive games and nine of 10.

                ROCKETS 121, HAWKS 105

ATLANTA (AP) - James Harden had 31 points and 10 assists, Clint Capela added 26 points and 11 rebounds and Houston won its third straight game.

The Rockets have won 12 of 13 and have 10 wins in their last 13 road games.

Trae Young had 21 points and 12 assists and John Collins added 20 points 10 rebounds for the Hawks.

Chris Paul had 13 points, 11 assists, three steals and just one turnover. Capela got his sixth straight double-double and 37th overall.

                76ERS 118, HORNETS 114

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Ben Simmons scored 28 points, JJ Redick had 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Philadelphia held on to beat Charlotte for its fifth straight victory.

Jimmy Butler added 23 points and nine assists, and Tobias Harris chipped in with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the 76ers (46-25), who remained in third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Redick finished with seven 3-pointers, one shy of his career high.

Jeremy Lamb led the Hornets with 26 points and 11 rebounds, but missed a floater that would have sent the game into overtime. Kemba Walker had 21 points for the Hornets (31-39), who have dropped four of their last five and continue to fall out of playoff contention.

                    Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings……

                    13) Mike Trout signed a 12-year, $430M deal with the Angels; thats $35,833,333 per year, if you’re scoring at home. Big day for baseball players and their agents.

The business of baseball myst be good; Artie Moreno bought the Angels for $184M in April, 2003; 16 years later, he pays one guy more than double that.

                    12) Question is, was this a good day for Angel fans? Halos are also paying Albert Pujols another $87M over the next three seasons. Neither one of those guys pitches, and pitching wins.

                    11) Oakland A’s entire payroll last year was $65,985,833; now Trout/Pujols will be making $63.8M combined this year. Oakland won 17 more games than the Angels last year.

                    10) St Joe’s fired coach Phil Martelli Tuesday after 24 years with the school; Hawks were 28-8 three short years ago, but then DeAndre’ Bembry left school a year early and things weren’t the same- St Joe’s went 41-55 the last three years, 20-34 in the A-14.

St Joe’s brought in a new athletic director last year, and new AD’s usually don’t care too much about what happened before they got there, so now the Hawks are looking for a new coach. Martelli made the NCAA’s seven times in 24 years at St Joe’s; we live in a fickle society.

                    9) Freshman Joel Ntambwe is transferring from UNLV, which is terrible news for Rebel fans and the new UNLV coach, whoever that turns out to be. Ntambwe averaged 11.8 ppg and 5.5 rpg this year- he shot 38.6% behind the arc. Really good player.

                    8) FDU 82, Prairie View 76— Prairie View made 8-12 on arc in first half, led 41-34 at the break; they made 15-29 on arc for the game, but FDU’s PG Jenkins scored 20 second half points and the Knights move on to play Gonzaga in Salt Lake City Thursday. Fun game to watch.

                    7) Belmont 81, Temple 70— Belmont plays like the old Pete Carril/Princeton teams; they shoot the 3’s, they make backdoor cuts, they’re a unique team to play against.

                    6) #8-seed in the NBA’s Western Conference are the Clippers, who are 41-30; a 41-30 team would be the 6th seed in the East.

                    5) Rams signed Blake Bortles as their new backup QB; Bortles has started 73 NFL games, and was the Jaguars’ QB when they made the playoffs in 2017.

                    4) I don’t understand why people bet on spring training baseball games; no one cares who wins, the pitchers might actually be working on one pitch and may stay away from his best stuff, but lines are posted every day, subs we’ve rarely heard of play the last half of the game and money changes hands. Go figure.

                    3) Wofford is a 3-point favorite over a Seton Hall team that went 9-9 in the Big East; that alone should get coach Mike Young into the top 3 in national Coach of the Year voting.

                    2) Damon Jones played 12 years in the NBA and was later an assistant coach with the Cavaliers when they won the 2016 NBA title. In his playing days, Jones played for 10 different teams in his dozen years in the league. This is a guy who should write a book.

                    1) Former NBA star Walt (Clyde) Frazier is 73 years old now: he is a New York City icon who led the Knicks to two NBA titles in the 70’s, and to this day he works Knicks’ games on MSG Network. He generally isn’t very controversial, but he does speak the truth.

Sunday afternoon, when the Knicks played the Lakers, Frazier was critical of Lebron James because Lebron was sitting away from his teammates on the bench during a timeout near the end of a game the Lakers wound up losing by a point. Candid comments; good stuff.

Monday night during the Knicks-Raptors game, Frazier told Mike Breen that he was surprised his comments got so much attention, but criticism is unusual to hear in these politically correct times, and it was great to hear, because it was warranted.
