Game of the Night: Raptors at Warriors – 10:30 PM EST

Golden State (19-9 SU, 13-15 ATS) is the two-time undisputed champion in the NBA and barring injury, will be back in the Finals in June. It will not be a repeat matchup with Cleveland, but Toronto (22-7 SU, 14-15 ATS) is one of the top candidates to knock off Golden State for the NBA title.

The two powers meet tonight at Oracle Arena as the Warriors are riding a four-game winning streak following Monday’s 116-108 home triumph over the Timberwolves. Stephen Curry shot lights out by drilling seven three-pointers and scoring 38, while Golden State knocked down 19 treys. Although the Warriors improved to 12-2 at home, Steve Kerr’s team didn’t cover as 9 ½-point favorites, and fell to 1-4 ATS in the past five games at Oracle Arena.

The Raptors head to the Bay Area with no rest after blowing out the Clippers, 123-99 last night. Kawhi Leonard sat out for Toronto, but the Raptors’ offense didn’t struggle as they shot 52% from the floor and hit 14 three-pointers. Serge Ibaka led Toronto with 25 points, while Kyle Lowry rebounded from a scoreless effort against Milwaukee to put up 21 points and seven assists.

Toronto held off Golden State in their previous meeting in overtime on November 29 at Scotiabank Arena, 131-128. The Warriors cashed as 9 ½-point underdogs with Curry sidelined, but Kevin Durant posted one of the top games of his career with 51 points. Leonard paced the Raptors with 37 points as Toronto snapped an eight-game losing streak to Golden State that dated back to January 2015.

    Thunder Road

Following an 0-4 start, Oklahoma City (17-8 SU, 15-10 ATS) has stormed back to take control of the Northwest division. The Thunder has won five of their last six games, including Monday’s 122-113 home triumph over the Jazz in a playoff rematch from last season. Oklahoma City led by 24 points heading into the fourth quarter prior to a Utah rally, but Paul George continued his solid play of late by scoring 31 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

The Thunder travels to New Orleans to face the Pelicans (14-15 SU, 13-16 ATS), who own a solid 10-4 record at Smoothie King Center. The Pelicans have alternated wins and losses in nine consecutive games, coming off a 113-100 setback at Boston on Monday. New Orleans dropped a 122-116 decision at Oklahoma City in its first matchup back in early November, as Pelicans’ forward Julius Randle put together an impressive 10-of-10 effort from the floor for 26 points in the defeat.

    King it On

Sacramento (14-12 SU, 16-10 ATS) is halfway to cashing its season win total (25 ½) as the Kings continue a solid start. The Kings return home from a 3-1 road trip, which included blowout victories over Phoenix, Cleveland, and Chicago to improve to 8-7 away from Golden 1 Center. Sacramento welcomes in Minnesota as the Kings knocked off the Timberwolves, 121-110 as two-point underdogs in November.

The Wolves (13-14 SU, 15-12 ATS) are winless through their first two games of a four-game road trip which wraps up in Phoenix on Saturday. Minnesota has lost 10 of 12 contests away from Target Center, but yet the Wolves opened as a short favorite on Wednesday at Sacramento. The first two games of this road swing resulted in defeats at Portland and Golden State, although the Wolves cashed as 9 ½-point ‘dogs against the Warriors on Monday. The Wolves have fared well recently in the favorite role by going 5-1 SU/ATS in the last six opportunities.

    Central Command

The Central Division was owned by Cleveland each of the past four seasons, but it will come down to Milwaukee and Indiana this season. Although there is still 70% of the season to be played, the Bucks and Pacers are separated by 1 ½ games heading into Wednesday’s action and likely won’t be caught by the Pistons, Cavaliers, and Bulls.

The Bucks (18-8 SU, 14-11-1 ATS) picked up consecutive wins for the first time since late November as Milwaukee knocked off Toronto and Cleveland on a back-to-back set on Sunday and Monday. Milwaukee has stepped up its defense of late by cashing four consecutive UNDERS, while limiting three opponents during this span to 99 points or less.

The Pacers (17-10 SU, 14-13 ATS) are in the midst of a seven-game UNDER streak, while picking up wins in four consecutive contests. Indiana looks to wrap up its three-game homestand perfect after beating Sacramento and Washington, as the Pacers try to avenge an earlier loss to the Bucks. Milwaukee ripped Indiana at Fiserv Forum in mid-October, 118-101 as 3 ½-point favorites, but the Pacers have won each of the last three home matchups with the Bucks.

    Dallas Domination

The Mavericks (14-11 SU, 17-8 ATS) have taken advantage of playing at American Airlines Center by posting a terrific 12-2 home mark. Dallas rallied past Houston on Saturday, followed by a blowout of Orlando on Monday to improve to 10-0 SU/ATS in the past 10 home contests. Dallas is in a revenge spot tonight against Atlanta as the Mavericks squandered a 26-point lead in a 111-104 setback to the Hawks in late October.

Atlanta (6-20 SU, 10-16 ATS) snapped a four-game losing streak in Saturday’s 106-98 home upset of Denver for its first win in December. The road has not been kind to the Hawks, who are 2-11 on the highway, but Atlanta has cashed in five of the past eight opportunities as an away underdog. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Hawks own a perfect 10-0 record against the Mavericks, including four straight victories at American Airlines Center.

    First to Three

The 76ers and Nets have split a pair of matchups at Barclays Center this season, while Philadelphia got the best of Brooklyn on November 25 on a Jimmy Butler buzzer-beater. The Sixers (19-9 SU, 13-15 ATS) have won six of their past seven games, while coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Pistons. Butler is doubtful with a groin injury tonight, but Philadelphia is 4-0 SU/ATS in its last four games at Wells Fargo Center since losing to Cleveland as 13-point favorites on November 23.

The Nets (10-18 SU, 13-15 ATS) are seeking their second three-game winning streak of the season following victories over the Raptors and Knicks. Brooklyn is riding a three-game ATS hot streak, while winning three of its past five contests away from Barclays Center. The Nets have covered their first two meetings with the Sixers, as Brooklyn has cashed in five of the past seven meetings in the series since April 2017.

NBA Basketball Odds - Toronto Raptors at Golden State Warriors

The Toronto Raptors might have the best record in the NBA, but they aren’t the best team. They will get an up-close look at it in a big-time matchup when they hit the road to face off against the Golden State Warriors.

Golden State suffered through a couple weeks of hiccups recently but is healthy again and playing well. The Warriors have moved back toward the top of the Western Conference and are widely expected to enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. The Raptors have the top spot in the East and would love to hold on to it.

A win in this one would be a huge get for Toronto but the Warriors will be the home favorites now that they have all of their key players back in the fold in NBA gambling.

This NBA basketball game between the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors will be held at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California at 10:30 p.m ET on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

We'll have NBA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2018 NBA season.

      Odds Analysis

The Toronto Raptors have raced out to a 22-7 record on the season, the only team in the NBA that has reached the 20-win plateau. They have been impressive on the road with 11 wins in 14 games, including a victory over the Clippers on Tuesday. Toronto has the second-best point-differential in the NBA and has all the makings of a contender. A win over the Warriors would be another huge feather in its cap.

The Warriors are 19-9 on the year. They have won four in a row and seem set to take off and leave the rest of the West in the dust. Golden State has been really good at home this year with 12 wins in 14 games.

      Injury Report

The Warriors have recently gotten two stars back with Steph Curry and Draymond Green back on the court. They would love to get another one soon. DeMarcus Cousins has not played this season after tearing his Achilles last year but was recently assigned to the G League. Cousins won’t be available for this game but will make the Warriors tougher when he gets back.

Golden State could be without small forward Andre Iguodala, who is dealing with hip tightness. He isn’t part of the star quartet but is a nice complementary player.

The Raptors didn’t have star forward Kawhi Leonard on Tuesday against the Clippers and it’s unknown if he will be available for this one. Leonard is one of the best players in the NBA and if he cannot play it would be a big blow to Toronto’s chances to come away with the upset.

      Player To Watch

Stephen Curry -- The Warriors have a bunch of talent but they had holes when Curry was out for several games due to injury. They are hitting on all cylinders once again now that he is back. Curry is in the midst of a phenomenal season, averaging 30.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.2 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 51.3 percent from the field and a crazy 50 percent from three-point range.

Curry is a former MVP and if he keeps playing like this he will be in the mix once again even despite missing a few games earlier in the year. The Raptors must figure out a way to somehow keep him from shooting efficiently from the field.

      Free NBA ATS Picks

The Raptors are a good team, but they are not on the level of the Warriors. The task will be even tougher without Leonard so keep a close eye on his availability. Even if he plays, Golden State should lean on Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson in a key win.

The Warriors are hitting their groove and a focused group in Oakland can’t be beaten. Golden State is the pick to both win this game and cover the spread in NBA gambling.

NBA ATS Pick: Golden State Warriors 121, Toronto Raptors 112

        Wednesday NBA Betting Preview
Milwaukee vs. Indiana (7:05 p.m. ET)

We've got some high-profile NBA teams taking the floor on Wednesday night as 11 games are littered across the betting board. The potential Finals preview between Toronto and Golden State – the second meeting between the two in about two weeks – is going to attract a lot of eyeballs, but it's an earlier game between two Eastern Conference division rivals that caught my eye.

Indiana and Milwaukee will likely have plenty to say about Toronto potentially making the Finals when all is said and done, and the two square off in Indiana tonight. It’s just the second meeting of the year between them, as Milwaukee dominated the first one at home (118-101) back to the first week of the year. Seeing the home team win SU and cover was nothing new for these Central Division rivals either, as the home side is now 6-1 SU and ATS in the last seven meetings. Will that run continue tonight and put the Pacers in the driver's seat?

Sportsbetting.ag Odds: Milwaukee (-2.5); Total set at 218.5

Golden State vs Toronto might be the headliner on tonight's NBA schedule, but this Milwaukee team has dealt with both in just the last six days. There was a 105-95 home loss with the Warriors in town last Friday night, and then just two days later, it was a 104-99 win in Toronto for Milwaukee to earn the split during that tough two-game stretch. This Bucks team looks the part of one that will make a lot of noise in the East come playoff time, and those two efforts were something great to build upon. Milwaukee followed the win over the Raptors with a 108-92 victory over Cleveland the next night, and are now hoping to dispatch the Pacers to start this road trip that sees them head to Cleveland on Friday.

If the Cavs were still the team led by LeBron, this spot would be absolutely atrocious for the Bucks, but with how bad Cleveland is this year, there really is no concern for anyone when they see the Cavs upcoming on their schedule. However, it's still a rough spot for the Bucks in the sense that it's still their 4th game in six nights after dealing with that three-in-four with Golden State and Toronto mixed in, and Indiana is no slouch.

The Pacers come into this game having won four in a row (3-1 ATS), and looking to improve upon their 9-4 SU record at home. For how much improvement Milwaukee has seemingly shown already this year, they are still just a .500 team on the road (5-5 SU), and with a point spread sitting at 2.5, you pick the outright winner chances are you'll get the ATS cover as well. So can Indiana win this game outright?

I believe they can, as the home court advantage in this rivalry has proved significant, and the lack of travel the Pacers have had to deal with during their four game in six night stretch, negates some of the negativity surrounding that scheduling spot. The potential for having All-Star Victor Oladipo tonight also could provide that extra spark to push the Pacers over the hump this evening, but it's not like they haven't played strong basketball during Oladipo's three-week absence. Indiana's also on a 12-5 ATS run against division rivals, so they do know how to take care of business against the opponents they need too.

Milwaukee is a team I'm quite high on in general this year, but we are still a long was away from April. Dealing with good teams like Golden State and Toronto in consecutive games eventually catches up to every team in this league, and tonight could end up being that spot to lay a “dud” for Milwaukee. The Bucks are just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games on the road dating back to last year, on a 1-4 ATS run off a SU win, and 1-5 ATS off a win by double-digits.

So give me the points with the Pacers as a small home underdog here, with Oladipo or not. Indiana's in a decent spot to stretch their winning streak out to five games, and while this is the only time the home side has not been chalk during the 6-1 ATS run for the home side in these Pacers/Bucks games, Indiana does what's necessary to get the win tonight.

            From Downtown!

Defensively Toronto has only allowed 107.8 points per game, and that number gets even better on the road at 105.5. Despite a good overall defense, they have struggled against opposing shooting guards allowing 24.7 points and 3.4 made 3-point shots per contest.

That could be trouble for the Raptors in tonight's matchup with the Warriors. Klay Thompson is a career 41.8 shooter from deep, and has made four 3-pointers in each of the Warriors last two games. Expect Thompson to find success in what appears to be a high scoring affair and back the Over on his point total.

            OKC should fear The Brow

The Oklahoma City Thunder travel to New Orleans to take on the Pelicans. The Pels will be missing Elfrid Payton and Nikola Mirotic and might be without the services of E'Twan Moore, who is listed as questionable, as well.

The Thunder have given up an average of 48.6 points in the paint per game and are coming off a game where they surrendered 62 points inside to the Jazz. With the Pelicans as the top ranked team in points in the paint this year averaging 57.7 a contest, back Anthony Davis to find success and take Over his points total of 27.5.

            Lean Under in Philly

Brooklyn should be feeling good after winning two straight including a surprise win versus Toronto. Tonight the Nets take on a 76ers team averaging 113.9 points per game, while the Nets average 108.7.

Over their most recent three games, the Nets have allowed an average of 107.7 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting, while the 76ers are surrendering 108.7 points on 46.2 percent shooting.

The 76ers are the much better team in this contest and have been almost unbeatable on their home court with a 14-1 record. However, the O/U looks like a better play with the total going Under in 13 of the most recent 19 contests between the two sides. Take Under the total of 224.

Stepping up when they need him

The Bucks versus Pacers game could be important for the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee is up 1.5 games in the Central Division and has already beaten Indiana once this season.

Although the Pacers will likely be without Victor Oladipo once again, they have won six of their most recent 10 without him, allowing only 96 points per game over their last three games.

With Giannis Antetokounmpo probable for today's matchup but not at 100 percent, look for Khris Middleton to step up. In their first meeting, Middleton shot just under 47 percent from the field and made five of nine from beyond the arc, while also chipping in with four rebounds and four assists. Take the Over on his points, rebounds, assists total of 23.5.

            Portland starting to grind

The head-to-head between the Trail Blazers and Grizzlies has been a very even matchup in recent memory. They've split their most recent 10 games with an average total of 100.1 for Portland and 98.5 for Memphis.

The Grizzlies have struggled to score points over their most recent five games being held under 100 in four of those contests. This bodes well for a Blazers team who have played some of their best defense of the year over their most recent three, holding opponents to an average of 100.7 points per game. Look for another closely contested defensive showing and back the Under 205.5

                  • Irving helps Celtics past Wizards 130-125 in overtime
                    December 12, 2018
                    By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) Kyrie Irving scored Boston's last 12 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the final 40 seconds of overtime to outduel John Wall in a point-guard showdown, and the Celtics extended their winning streak to seven games with a 130-125 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

Irving finished with 38 points and seven assists. Marcus Morris added 27 points and nine rebounds for Boston, which played without Al Horford, Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown - its Nos. 4-6 leading scorers.

Wall returned for the Wizards after missing a game with an aching left heel and finished with 34 points with 13 assists. But his seven points in OT weren't enough to keep pace with fellow All-Star Irving.

Bradley Beal and Jeff Green each added 22 points and Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 20 for Washington.

                    PACERS 113, BUCKS 97

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Thaddeus Young had 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, and Myles Turner added 23 points to lead Indiana to its fifth straight win.

Indiana pulled within a half-game of the Central Division-leading Bucks.

Eric Bledsoe scored 26 points and Malcolm Brogdon finished with 15 to lead Milwaukee. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a season-low 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dealt out seven assists after missing Monday's game at Cleveland with a sore neck.

Indiana's Victor Oladipo wound up with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists after missing 11 games with a sore right knee.

                    CAVALIERS 113, KNICKS 106

CLEVELAND (AP) - Jordan Clarkson scored 28 points and a basket by Rodney Hood in the fourth quarter gave Cleveland a late lead as the Cavaliers dealt New York its fifth straight loss.

Hood put the Cavaliers in front 107-106 with 23 seconds remaining after New York took a one-point lead on rookie Kevin Knox's fast-break dunk with 32 seconds left.

Hood added 23 points, rookie Collin Sexton scored 19 and Matthew Dellavedova, playing his first him game for Cleveland since being re-acquired from Milwaukee, had 15 points.

Enes Kanter and Tim Hardaway each scored 20 points for New York.

                    HORNETS 108, PISTONS 107

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Jeremy Lamb hit a 22-foot jumper from the right wing with 0.3 seconds left, and Charlotte Hornets rallied from a late 10-point deficit for a wild win.

Lamb's buzzer-beater came with controversy. As he released the ball, Malik Monk ran off the Hornets' bench and onto the floor early to celebrate the made basket.

Officials reviewed the play and called one-shot technical on the Hornets for having six men on the court. The basket counted. The Pistons made the technical free throw, but the ensuing inbounds pass was intercepted.

Kemba Walker finished with 31 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Hornets, who won their third straight and moved into sixth place in the Eastern Conference - a half-game ahead of Detroit.

Blake Griffin had 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Pistons, who have lost six in a row.

                    NETS 127, 76ers 124

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Spencer Dinwiddie scored a career-high 39 points off the bench and Allen Crabbe had 20 to lead Brooklyn.

Joel Embiid had 33 points and 17 rebounds and Ben Simmons scored 22 for Philadelphia, which played without Jimmy Butler because of a strained groin.

Joe Harris had 14 points for Brooklyn, which notched its second victory over Philadelphia in three meetings.

                    GRIZZLIES 92, TRAIL BLAZERS 83

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Mike Conley scored 23 points and keyed a fourth-quarter outburst as Memphis snapped a two-game losing streak.

Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 14 points, and MarShon Brooks added 13 for the Grizzlies.

C.J. McCollum matched his season high with 40 points, while Damian Lillard was held to a season-low 14 points, connecting on only 4 of 18 shots.

The Trail Blazers' 83 points were a season low.

                    PELICANS 118, THUNDER 114

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Anthony Davis had 44 points and 18 rebounds, and inconsistent New Orleans narrowly held on to defeat Oklahoma City.

Jrue Holiday had 20 points and 10 assists, and Julius Randle added 22 for New Orleans, which has alternated wins and losses in its past 10 games.

Paul George had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Dennis Schroder scored 24 points for Oklahoma City, which came in having won five of its previous six. Russell Westbrook had 20 points and four steals but did not appear as eager as usual to shoot, hitting 8 of 16 shots. Steven Adams also scored 20.

                    MAVERICKS 114, HAWKS 107

DALLAS (AP) - Harrison Barnes scored 25 points, Luka Doncic added 24 and Dallas extended its home winning streak to 11 games while ending a 10-game skid against Atlanta.

J.J. Barea had 18 points before leaving with a sprained left ankle as the Mavericks finally beat the Hawks after blowing a 26-point lead in October.

It was Dallas' first win over Atlanta since Oct. 30, 2013, and the home winning streak is the longest since a 12-game run in 2007-08.

Trae Young had 24 points and 10 assists for the Hawks.

                    JAZZ 111, HEAT 84

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 21 points and Derrick Favors had 17 as Utah romped over short-handed Miami.

Rodney McGruder paced the Heat with 16 points and Kelly Olynyk had 14 as Miami played without Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic. Dwyane Wade, set to retire after the season, scored six points.

Favors went 7 of 8 and had eight boards in 19 minutes, while Rudy Gobert had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Korver, who has opened up the floor for the Jazz since arriving via trade from Cleveland, made four more 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

                    KINGS 141, TIMBERWOLVES 130

Thursday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

                      13) If you were a college football player, which bowl would you NOT want to play in? There are a ton of bowls, 39 if I counted right. We’ll talk about this later on this month, but no way would I want to go somewhere cold, like Boise or the Bronx or Detroit. Bowl games should be warm; at least the game in Detroit is indoors.

Anyway, did you know players get swag bags at bowl games? Here are three of some of the best swag collections EVERY player gets at these games………

                      12) New Mexico Bowl North Texas vs. Utah State
                      — Oakley Jupiter Squared sunglasses
                      — Oakley 5 Speed backpack
                      — Bluetooth speaker
                      — water bottle
                      — beanie
                      — Montgomery pen
                      — Pacific Headwear trucker’s cap

                      11) Valero Alamo Bowl Iowa State vs. Washington State
                      — $425 Amazon gift card— Every kid gets $425, a good deal for the scrubs
                      — Fossil watch
                      — mini helmet
                      — team panoramic photo

                      10) AutoZone Liberty Bowl Missouri vs. Oklahoma State ¦
                      — Shopping trip to Memphis’ Bass Pro Shops
                      — Bose SoundLink micro Bluetooth speaker;
                      — Bulova watch
                      — Nike athletic shoes
                      — sport sandals
                      — backpack and sunglasses
                      — football

                      9) Minnesota QB coach Kevin Stefanski will take over as the new offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, after John DeFilippo was fired Tuesday. Here’s an idea; let your QB call his own damn plays— he makes $28M a year, I’m guessing he could do it.

                      8) We mentioned the other day how Mike MacIntyre got fired as the head coach at Colorado and is now the DC at Ole Miss. Turns out that MacIntyre will now be making over $1M more per year than he was at Colorado, and he’s not even the head coach.

                      7) I have the NBA Full Court package on DirecTV; I enjoy watching good basketball, but I read the stuff about the Chicago Bulls revolting against their new coach and not wanting to practice the day after a 56-point loss and it makes me want to cancel my subscription.

Not sure what the solution is, but the league has a problem on its hands.

                      6) The sport that loses the most in transition from in person to on TV is hockey. If you’ve never gone to a college or pro hockey game, you should— it is great fun. Watch the officials; they’re such great skaters.

                      5) I think Bob Uecker should’ve gotten an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Indians’ radio announcer Harry Doyle in the fine baseball movie Major League.

                      4) As recently as 1999, Vice-President Mike Pence was a radio talkshow host in Indiana. The guy’s head has to be spinning; his every move now is fodder for late-night comedians.

You have any idea how hard it is to just sit there with no emotion or no motion like he did in the Oval Office Tuesday? Someone on the Interweb compared him to the dead guy in Weekend at Bernie’s, and it didn’t seem like that big a stretch to agree with him.

                      3) Tampa Bay Rays’ plans for a new ballpark in Ybor City officially died this week when owner Stu Sternberg had a press conference at the Winter Meetings. Sounds like the Rays might be locked into the Trop now, until 2027- they could easily wind up in Montreal eventually.

                      2) The Heisman Trophy that Tim Brown won in 1987 sold for $435,763 at a public auction recently. Lot of money for a trophy.

                      1) Pretty cool that the Blue Jays will be paying Troy Tulowitzki $18.4M a year for the next two years, while he probably plays 2B for the A’s, who will be paying him the big league minimum. Now if he can only stay healthy…….

                        • Inside the Paint - Thursday
                          Chris David

Game of the Night (TNT, 8:05 p.m. ET)

                          L.A. Lakers (17-10 SU, 11-15-1 ATS) at Houston (12-14 SU, 10-16 ATS)

Despite a rough start to the season, oddsmakers are still respecting the Houston Rockets in this primetime matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. BookMaker.eu sent out the Rockets -5 ½ with a total of 221 ½. VegasInsider.com NBA expert Tony Mejia provided his quick thoughts on the Western Conference matchup.

“While Houston faces an uphill climb after falling to the back of the pack in the loaded Western Conference, L.A. takes its act on the road for a four-game set that will open against James Harden, Chris Paul and their gang of underachievers. The Lakers have managed to overcome losing talented young wing Brandon Ingram and haven’t had Rajon Rondo back in the mix for weeks, but that hasn’t stopped them from winning six of seven since Nov. 29,” said Mejia.

“James has flawlessly played closer while ensuring that young co-stars Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball stay in rhythm throughout. Making sure both get going on the road will be his primary objective early on, but what we’re about to see what killer instinct LeBron has brought to Lakers, especially since a win over the slumping Rockets would increase the gap between the teams to six games if they’re able to get their road swing off to a strong start. Stops in Charlotte, Washington and Brooklyn will follow after that, so L.A. can go on a run that may see it in first place ahead of the Warriors when the teams meet for the first time on Christmas Day. The Lakers are just 6-6 on the road and have won only once away from Staples Center since Nov. 23, so the first quarter of this contest should be telling.”

As Mejia mentioned, the Golden State matchup is less than two weeks away and I’m curious to see how many points the Lakers will catch in that game. The reason for my interest is because L.A. has only been an underdogs six times this season and it’s gone 3-3 both SU and ATS, four of the instances (2-2) coming on the road. This is the most points that they’ve received this season and the spread hasn’t matter in any of the first six outcomes so perhaps a money-line (+188) on the Lakers may intrigue you more if you're leaning to L.A.

Houston just snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday with a 111-104 win over Portland as a 6 ½-point home favorite but a 6-5 SU and 5-6 ATS record at the Toyota Center is still shaky, especially for a team that went 34-7 at home in last year’s regular season.

This year’s squad has plenty of new pieces and Mejia noted how the team is still trying to find the chemistry that helped them dominate their way to the No. 1 seed in the West last year.

He added, “Houston head coach Mike D’Antoni made a switch to his lineup, placing top sixth man Eric Gordon in his first five to ensure another shooter is out there taking advantage when Harden or Paul is double-teamed. That tweak didn’t yield early results since the Rockets trailed the Blazers 19-10 when Paul was replaced by James Ennis midway through the opening quarter in Tuesday’s eventual 111-104 Rockets win, but we should see him stay in the lineup anyway since Ennis is out at least a week after straining his hamstring. Gerald Green and rookie Danuel House are expected to get more minutes off the bench as a result.”

In the first meeting between the pair on Oct. 20 from the Staples Center, the Rockets captured a 124-115 road win over the Lakers as 3 ½-point favorites. The game was marred with a late scuffle between Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram. No drama should be expected tonight, on the court at least, since Rondo and Ingram are both nursing injuries. Including that victory, Houston has won eight of the last 10 against the Lakers while going 6-4 ATS. Total bettors should note that the ‘over’ is on an 8-2 run in this series.

Along with the big matchup tonight from Houston, we have three other games on Thursday and below is my quick handicap.

L.A. Clippers (17-10 SU, 11-15-1 ATS) at San Antonio (14-14 SU, 14-13-1 ATS)

These teams met just under a month ago in Los Angeles and the Clippers captured a 116-111 win but the Spurs managed to cash as six-point road underdogs. Since that loss, San Antonio has gone 7-7 while Los Angeles has posted an 8-5 record but it limps into this game with losses in three of its last four.

San Antonio opened as a short favorite (-2) for the rematch and I thought the number should be a little bit higher knowing the Spurs have been much stronger at home (10-4 SU, 9-5 ATS). Plus, the Clippers are starting to show some flaws and they just lost the best bench player in the NBA in Lou Williams (hamstring) for at least a couple weeks. The Spurs have also shown more fight defensively at home (106.6 PPG) compared to their awful road numbers (118.1 PPG) and the Clippers (115.3 PPG) have shown less fight on the road as well.

Last season, the Spurs won and covered both games at the AT&T Center against the Clippers with the margins coming by 18 and 13 points. Since getting run by Houston (136-105) on Nov. 30, San Antonio has won and covered all four of its home games in December and every win was by double digits.

Chicago (6-22 SU, 13-15 ATS) vs. Orlando (12-15 SU, 15-12 ATS) - (Mexico City, Mexico)

The NBA Global Games will head to Mexico for this matchup and remain in the country for another game on Saturday when the Magic host the Jazz. Orlando opened as a four-point favorite and the early action moved the number up to 4 ½ at most books. It’s a tough game to bet due to the venue and even though the Magic are the more talented and deeper team, they’re not in great form (0-3 SU, 0-3 ATS) recently.

However, Chicago is a mess and they’re coming off back-to-back blowout losses at home by 56 and 19 points. They actually played well for the first 24 minutes in Monday’s loss to Sacramento (108-99) but they couldn’t buy a bucket in the second-half as they were outscored 63-33. The Bulls are ranked last in scoring offense (101.8 PPG) and maybe a change of scenery will change things up. It’s been reported that the Bulls are the second most popular team in Mexico behind the Lakers, largely due to many of the fans falling in love with the team during the Michael Jordan championship era.

This will be the first meeting between the pair this season but the recent encounters have leaned heavily to Orlando, who is 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in the last eight games against the Bulls. The total on this game opened 207 ½ and jumped to 209 ½ quickly. The high altitude could play a factor and looking back at the past six games played in Mexico, we’ve seen an average combined scored of 207.3 PPG.

Dallas (15-11 SU, 17-9 ATS) at Phoenix (4-24 SU, 9-19 ATS)

Even though the Mavericks have been the best team for bettors this season, most of their damage has come at home (13-2 SU, 12-3 ATS) although they got squeezed late on Wednesday in a 114-107 win over Atlanta as a 10-point favorite. On the road, the Mavericks have been awful (2-9 SU, 5-6 ATS) and a lot of the covers have come in the role of an underdog. As a road favorite, Dallas is 1-2 and one of the losses came on opening night at Phoenix (121-100).

A lot has changed for the Suns since then and they’re still not expected to have Devin Booker (hamstring) available. Phoenix (+9 ½) did show some fight on Monday in a 123-119 overtime loss at home to the Clippers but that setback dropped them to 3-11 SU and 6-8 ATS at Talking Stick Resort Arena this season. Including the loss to L.A. and Tuesday’s 111-86 defeat to the Spurs on no rest, the Suns have dropped 10 straight games (1-9 ATS) headed into this matchup and the only cover during this skid came in the aforementioned contest to the Clippers.

If you’re looking for another angle to pass the game altogether or fade Dallas, you can point to its 0-3 record (1-2 ATS) when playing on no rest this season. Make a note that the Mavs defense has allowed 120.6 PPG in those games, which has led to a perfect 3-0 ‘over’ mark.
