OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Jeff Teague scored eight of his 30 points in overtime and the Indiana beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 115-111 on Sunday night for their first road victory of the season.

Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook had his fifth triple-double of the season - as many as the rest of the NBA combined - with 31 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds, but went 13 of 34 from the field.

Teague matched his season scoring high and added nine assists and six steals. He hit two free throws with 4.6 seconds left in regulation to put the Pacers up three.

Westbrook hit a 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds left to tie it for the Thunder and Glenn Robinson III missed a well-guarded 10-footer at the buzzer, forcing overtime. Teague's 3-pointer in the first minute of overtime put Indiana ahead for good. With 1:09 left, he converted a three-point play to make it 113-107, and he hit two free throws with 19.1 seconds left for a 115-111 edge

Six Pacers scored in double figures and two of them had double-doubles - Robinson with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Thaddeus Young with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Myles Turner just missed another with 15 points and nine rebounds. Enes Kanter added 16 points for the Thunder.

    BULLS 118, LAKERS 110

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jimmy Butler scored a season-high 40 points, Isaiah Canaan added a season-high 17 and Chicago beat Los Angeles for its fifth victory in six games.

Nikola Mirotic had 15 points and 15 rebounds and the Bulls held off Los Angeles' late rally for their third win in four stops on their annual circus road trip.

Rajon Rondo had four points, nine rebounds and 12 assists despite a sore left ankle. He hit a floater with 28.6 seconds left to secure the win after Los Angeles trimmed a 15-point lead to five.

Dwyane Wade took his first night off this season for the Bulls. He scored 28 points on Saturday while Chicago blew a 19-point lead in a loss to the Clippers, but the Bulls are monitoring their 34-year-old guard's long-term health.

Lou Williams scored a season-high 25 points and Larry Nance Jr. had a career-high 18 for the Lakers.

    KINGS 102, RAPTORS 99

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Rudy Gay had 23 points and nine rebounds and the Sacramento beat Toronto after waiting out a video review to see if the Raptors had forced overtime on Terrence Ross' 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Ross grabbed a deflected pass, took two dribbles and made a 33-footer, but the officials ruled time had expired.

DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Kings, Darrin Collison had 15 points and nine assists and Aaron Afflalo had 14 points. The Kings snapped a four-game losing streak and beat the Raptors for the second time this season.

Kyle Lowry had 25 points and eight assists for the Raptors. NBA scoring leader DeMar DeRozan had a season-low 12 points.

    KNICKS 104, HAWKS 94

NEW YORK (AP) - Carmelo Anthony matched his season high with 31 points and New York beat Atlanta for its fourth straight home victory.

Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Dwight Howard had 18 points and 18 rebounds, but point guard Dennis Schroder missed all eight shots as the Hawks dropped their second straight following a six-game winning streak.

Howard bounced back nicely after he was ejected for a flagrant foul Friday in the Hawks' 100-96 loss in Charlotte, while Paul Millsap led Atlanta with 19 points and Kyle Korver scored 17.

New York played without starting center Joakim Noah because of illness. Guards Derrick Rose and Courtney Lee each had 14 points, and Kyle O'Quinn, who replaced Noah, had eight points and eight rebounds.

    TRAIL BLAZERS 129, NETS 109

NEW YORK (AP) - C.J. McCollum scored 33 points, Evan Turner had 19 and Portland beat Brooklyn.

Portland snapped a three-game losing streak and extended Brooklyn's skid to four.

Damian Lillard added 18 points for the Trail Blazers, and Allen Crabbe had 14. Brook Lopez had 21 points for the Nets.

    NUGGETS 105, JAZZ 91

DENVER (AP) - Jusuf Nurkic had 16 points and 11 rebounds and the Denver Nuggets won a home game for the second time this season, beating Utah.

Rookie Jamal Murray had 16 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to help Denver improve to 2-4 at the Pepsi Center. Wilson Chandler added 17, and Danilo Gallinari had 13 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Gordon Hayward had 25 points for Utah.

    • Monday’s six-pack

Six most popular picks this week in the Westgate Super Contest:

      6) Raiders -5.5 (430)

      5) Buccaneers +7.5 (434)- W

      4) Vikings even (400)- W

      3) Titans +3 (509)- L

      2) Dolphins -2.5 (516)- W
      1) Ravens +7 (596)- L

      season record: 20-44-2

Monday’s List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday

Colts 24, Titans 17— Indy led 21-0 19:35 into game, held on for dear life; they’ve now won 11 in row over the Titans and 24 of last 28. Tennessee lost its last nine visits here. Indy stays within 1.5 games of Texans in AFC South. Colts have now covered 10 of their last 12 post-bye games, eight in row when favored.

Lions 26, Jaguars 19— Detroit has still trailed every game this year in 4th quarter; all ten of their games were decided by 7 or less points- they actually covered this game on a late FG. Jax lost its last five games; in two games since changing OC’s, Jaguars lost by 5-3-7 points, scoring 18 pts/game while turning ball over nine times on 34 possessions.

Buccaneers 19, Chiefs 17— Tampa Bay is 4-1 on road, 1-4 at home; go figure- they converted 11-16 on 3rd down which is huge in a low scoring game. KC had won 18 of previous 21 games, but in their last three games, have scored three offensive TDs on 30 drives, with nine FGAs. Bucs outgained KC by 99 yards.

Giants 22, Bears 16— Chicago led 16-9 at half, never scored again. Big Blue’s seven wins are by total of 27 points; their biggest win was 17-10 over Rams in London, when one of their two TD’s was scored by defense. Only one of ten Giant games was decided by more than 7 points. Chicago lost five of last six games, is 0-6 on road, 1-4 as a road dog, losing away games by 9-14-6-16-26-6 points.

Vikings 30, Cardinals 24— Minnesota had TD on both defense/special teams, now has six such TDs this year; they snap 4-game skid, are 4-1 at home are tied for first with Lions in NFC North. Arizona allowed 28.5 pts/game in losing three of first four road games, with only win at SF; Cardinals turned ball over eight times in last three games, is 0-2-1 this year in games with spread of 3 or less points.

Bills 16, Bengals 12— When Houston Texans were on Hard Knocks in 2015, Bill O’Brien said this to his team: “You’re a part of the most competitive business in the world.” There is such a fine line between winning/losing these games. One play, one bounce of the ball makes all the difference. Bengals are 1-4-1 in last six games and their season is in freefall.

Cowboys 27, Ravens 17— Baltimore had 136 penalty yards, Cowboys 45. Dallas won/covered nine games in row; Cowboys are 4-1 at home, 3-1 as home favorites, winning home games by 14-14-6-7 points, heading into a Thanksgiving game with their rivals from Washington. NFC East teams are now 16-7 vs spread outside their division. Meanwhile Joe Flacco is taking grief from former Ravens; we’re a fickle society.

Steelers 24, Browns 9— Not only is Cleveland terrible (outscored 70-17 in second half of last four games), they haven’t had their bye yet so they’re tired too. Browns are 1-6-1 vs spread in its last eight games; QB kessler got KO’d, so it is McCown’s turn to get pummeled. All five Steeler wins this year are by 8+ points (wins by 22-8-29-18-15 points).

Dolphins 14, Rams 10— On their first 11 drives, Miami ran 42 plays for 92 yards; they were totally inept. Trailing 10-0 with 6:40 left, they won game with drives of 77-75 yards on 15 plays (10.1 yards per play, with penalties added in). Dolphins have now won/covered five games in a row; playoff teams find a way to win, cruddy teams find a way to lose. Miami is only a game out of the Wild Card slot.

Patriots 30, 49ers 17— There were three 4:00 games Sunday; funny thing is, only one of the three were it didn’t rain was the game in Seattle. 49ers are now 6-20 since Jim Harbaugh took off for Michigan; they were 44-19-1 while he was with Niners. Maybe they should’ve kept him.

Seahawks 26, Eagles 15— Wilson looks like his old self (almost); speed of new RB Prosise (was WR in college) makes Seahawk offense lot more dangerous. Seattle is 5-0 at home this year, 2-3 as home favorites, winning at home by 2-19-2-6-11 points. Eagles lost five of last seven games after a 3-0 start; they lost last five road games, allowing 27.7 pts/game.

Redskins 42, Packers 24— Green Bay is in free fall, losing last four games while allowing 153 points, most they’ve allowed in any 4-game stretch since the year before Vince Lombardi came to Green Bay (1958)— Pack lost last four road games, by 3-1-22-18 points; their only road win was in opener at Jacksonville. Redskins are 6-1-1 in last eight games after an 0-2 start (two home losses).

Under is 11-2 in NFL games this weekend. There were 12 extra points missed today; three of them in domes. Kicking is mental.

                • Monday's NBA Essentials
                  November 21, 2016

Game of the Night - Toronto at L.A. Clippers (Prime Ticket, 10:35 ET)

The Raptors were set to play an extra five minutes in Sacramento on Sunday night after Terrence Ross rose up and fired an improbable 3-pointer before the clock expired, tying the Kings at 102, but a review showed the clock didn’t start immediately when DeMarcus Cousins managed to get a hand on the inbounds pass. It started nearly immediately, but not at the moment he tipped it, so the NBA’s replay center deemed that .4 on the clock that were left when he got his shot off would’ve expired had things started on time. Predictably, head coach Dwane Casey lost it, throwing his clipboard on the floor as he headed towards the locker room feeling his team was robbed. Dave Joerger already had his Kings in their quarters, hurrying them off the court before anyone changed their minds.

Count on an unhappy Raptors (8-5 SU, 7-5-1 ATS) team taking the floor at Staples Center for this meeting with the Clippers (12-2 SU, 9-5 ATS), who enter the week with the NBA’s best record. Toronto suffered through consecutive losses for the first time this season last week, falling to last year’s NBA Finals participants. The Raps rallied to beat Denver to start their current five-game road trip, but fell last night and are hoping to avoid losses in four of five, something that didn’t happen to them all last season.

Compton native DeMar DeRozan returns to Southern California as the NBA’s third-leading scorer (31.4) after being held to just 12 points by Rudy Gay’s great defense on a night where he missed 12 shots and had no rhythm. He’ll look to bounce back against Luc Mbah a Moute, whose defense has played a key role in L.A.’s first start. The Raptors are an 8-to-8.5-point underdog, getting more points than they have all season after being just 6-point dogs against the Cavs and Warriors. Toronto is 1-3 (2-1-1) as a ‘dog this season and 1-1 (1-0-1 ATS) on the second night of back-to-backs.

The Clippers have won three of the last five meetings between these teams and have bounced back with consecutive wins over the Kings and Bulls since being upset at home by Memphis last Wednesday. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are playing at extremely high levels. Reserve wing Wesley Johnson is out with a heel injury, while Toronto’s DeMarre Carroll hasn’t played in back-to-backs all season and seems unlikely to participate.

                  Big Dog's Boy's Big Chance

Pacers forward Glenn Robinson III started against the Thunder last night with Paul George and CJ Miles sidelined and played a huge role in a 115-111 OT win with 16 points and 11 rebounds while playing a team-high 45 minutes. George (ankle) and Miles (knee) aren’t playing on Monday either, so Robinson and Thaddeus Young will have to contend with Kevin Durant and Draymond Green as Golden State (11-2 SU, 5-7-1 ATS) comes into Indiana (7-7 SU, 5-9 ATS) on a seven-game winning streak.

The 22-year-old Robinson has never played more than 30 minutes in consecutive games as a pro, much less the 40 he’s likely to play tonight if he can avoid foul trouble. He’s coming off career-highs in points, boards and minutes played, so when you throw in defending a pair of All-Stars, concerns over his energy level must come into play.

Durant is averaging 27.9 points and comes off a 33-point game in Oklahoma City’s 124-121 win in Milwaukee. He’s shot 31-for-51 (60.7 pct) through the first three games of this four-game road swing that ends tonight, hitting half his 3-pointers (9-for-18). Stephen Curry opened the trip with a 35-point game, but has shot just 6-for-30 (20 pct) from beyond the arc.

Golden State won 131-123 in Indy last season and is 7-1 on the road, but is just 2-5-1 attempting to cover large numbers. Tonight’s 13.5-point spread is the most they’ve been favored outside Oracle Arena to date as the Pacers back-to-back and George’s absence are being factored in heavily. Indiana is 0-2 SU/ATS on the second night of back-to-backs and is 0-1 SU/ATS as a home underdog.

                  Notable Head-to-Head Trends

-- The 76ers are looking to win consecutive games for the first time since March '15 but have dominated games against Saturday's victim, Phoenix, but have lost five straight against the Heat. Joel Embiid should play, making for a nice matchup against Hassan Whiteside. The Heat may be thin on the wing since Justise Winslow has been ruled out and Dion Waiters is dealing with a groin injury that may keep him sidelined.
-- The Hornets swept Memphis last season, ending a run that had seen them lose six of seven in the series. Injury concerns to be aware of tonight involve Chandler Parsons still being questionable while Hornets center Cody Zeller will miss another game with a shoulder injury.
-- The Pistons had been perfect at home before a 94-92 loss to the Celtics on Saturday night, so they'll be looking to bounce back in a contest that opened as a pick'em but has seen the Rockets bet into a favorite's role, laying a bucket. The Pistons swept last year's games and have won three of four in the series, although Stan Van Gundy will be running into Mike D'Antoni for the first time since 2011-12.
-- The home team in the Orlando-Milwaukee series has won in eight of the last 10, including four straight.

                  Ties That Bind

Following his acrimonious departure from Phoenix via trade demand, it was no surprise to see Markieff Morris enjoy one of his best games as a Wizard when he went for 21 points and nine rebounds in his April 1 return. His old teammates visit him in D.C. this time, and even though he left Saturday's game with an ankle injury, it's no surprise that he intends to suit up. Morris is averaging 13.7 points and 6.5 boards for Washington (3-9 SU, 4-8 ATS), which has been one of the NBA's biggest disappointments. Phoenix (4-10 SU, 8-6 ATS) is on the fifth leg of a six-game Eastern swing and fell 120-105 in the last stop at Philadelphia on Saturday. Starters T.J. Warren (illness) and Tyson Chandler (personal) are questionable.

Even with Kevin Garnett retired, the Celtics (7-6 SU/ATS) and Timberwolves (4-8 SU/ATS) still have connections since Connecticut native and Providence product Kris Dunn was passed on by Boston in this past draft and Karl-Anthony Towns is also from the Northeast. New head coach Tom Thibodeau, also a Connecticut native, helped the Celtics win a title as Doc Rivers' defensive coordinator. Minnesota has struggled to get going under his watch. According to Comcast Northeast, Minnesota averages 29.2 points in the first quarter and 29.8 in the second quarter to ranks second and third in the NBA, but average a league-worst 19.8 in the third quarter. This will be a fun matchup against Brad Stevens, who has his Celtics back at full strength after Al Horford (concussion) and Jae Crowder (ankle) returned for Saturday's 94-92 win at Detroit. These teams have split their meetings each of the past two years. Boston is 2-1 SU/ATS as a road favorite.

Tonight's NBA TV game features Dallas (2-10 SU, 3-9 ATS) and San Antonio (10-3, 8-5 ATS) renewing acquaintances at the AT&T Center. The Mavs have fallen off this season with Dirk Nowitzki dealing with injuries and Harrison Barnes getting acclimated to a huge role, but they've got more talent than their record indicates. Gregg Popovich and Rick Carlisle are unquestionably two of the top coaches in the game, but Pop has won the last five meetings since the Spurs haven't lost in this series since securing the services of Dallas native LaMarcus Aldridge.

                      November 22, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Klay Thompson scored 25 points in 26 minutes and two-time MVP Stephen Curry added 22 points as the Golden State Warriors routed the Indiana Pacers 120-83 on Monday night.

The Warriors (12-2) have won eight straight and kept their starters on the bench for the entire fourth quarter after taking a 29-point lead.

Indiana (7-8) looked tired after earning its first road win Sunday night in overtime at Oklahoma City. The Pacers also played short-handed, with three-time All-Star Paul George, starting center Myles Turner and backup forward C.J. Miles all out with injuries.

Rodney Stuckey led the Pacers with 21 points, but Indiana was never close after the first quarter.

Kevin Durant had 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Warriors.

                      CLIPPERS 123, RAPTORS 115

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Chris Paul had 26 points and 12 assists, Blake Griffin also scored 26 and Los Angeles beat Toronto in a matchup of early-season division leaders.

DeAndre Jordan added 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Clippers, who improved the NBA's best record to 13-2 with their 10th victory in 11 games. J.J. Redick scored 20 points as Los Angeles snapped a four-game losing streak to Toronto.

The Clippers led by 17 in the second half but the Raptors cut the margin to 119-115 on a 3-pointer by Kyle Lowry with less than a minute to play. Redick made four free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Lowry led Toronto with 27 points and DeMar DeRozan added 25.

                      GRIZZLIES 105, HORNETS 90

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Mike Conley had 31 points, Marc Gasol flirted with a triple-double and Memphis defeated Charlotte for its fifth straight win.

Conley had five 3-pointers and shot 11 of 21 from the field, including a long 3 with 4 minutes left that thwarted Charlotte's fourth-quarter rally and sent the crowd streaming toward the exits.

Gasol was dominant in the first half and finished with 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. The Grizzlies led by 24 at halftime after shooting 58 percent from the field, including 10 of 16 from 3-point range.

Frank Kaminsky turned in perhaps his best game as a pro for Charlotte, tying a career high with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Kemba Walker had 17 points, snapping a string of 11 straight games with 20 or more.

                      76ERS 101, HEAT 94

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Joel Embiid had 22 points, including four late free throws, to lead Philadelphia over Miami.

Gerald Henderson added 19 points and Jahlil Okafor had 15 for the 76ers, who won their fourth straight home game. Philadelphia (4-10) has lost 21 in a row on the road.

Hassan Whiteside set a career high with 32 points for the Heat while reaching double digits in rebounds for the 13th consecutive game to start the season. Whiteside, who entered leading the NBA with 16.2 boards per game, finished with 13.

                      WIZARDS 106, SUNS 101

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bradley Beal scored a career-high 42 points and John Wall shook off an awful shooting night with seven key points down the stretch as Washington beat Phoenix.

Beal, who scored 34 points in Saturday's loss to Miami, had 12 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth. He shot 14 for 22 and hit five of his 10 3-point attempts.

Wall, who also scored 34 on Saturday, finished with 18 this time. He shot just 6 for 24 but converted a three-point play with 1:08 remaining to give Washington a 102-101 lead.

Devin Booker had 30 points and Eric Bledsoe scored 29 for the Suns, who have lost five of six.

                      ROCKETS 99, PISTONS 96

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - James Harden had 28 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds to lift Houston over Detroit.

Clint Capela added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Rockets, who won their third straight game.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 26 points and Andre Drummond had 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who have lost four in a row.

With the Rockets clinging to a two-point lead and 4.6 seconds to go, Drummond missed two free throws before Harden made one of two. Caldwell-Pope missed a halfcourt heave at the buzzer.

                      CELTICS 99, TIMBERWOLVES 93

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Isaiah Thomas scored 29 points and Boston rallied from 13 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Minnesota.

Al Horford added 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Celtics, who trailed 81-68 after three. Boston opened the fourth on a 17-0 run to take the lead and held on down the stretch for its second straight win.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points and 18 rebounds for the Timberwolves. Gorgui Dieng added 20 points and 10 rebounds, but Andrew Wiggins was just 5 for 18 and Minnesota scored three points in the first 9 minutes of the fourth.

Terry Rozier added 12 points off the bench and keyed the Celtics' surge in the first 6 minutes of the fourth.

                      BUCKS 93, MAGIC 89

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo had his first triple-double of the season to lead Milwaukee over Orlando.

The Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak as Antetokounmpo finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He made all nine free throws and added five steals and three blocks.

Jabari Parker had 22 points for the Bucks and made five 3-pointers - he began the night with a total of 10.

Milwaukee beat Orlando at home for the eighth time in nine tries.

The Magic were led by Serge Ibaka's 21 points.

                      SPURS 96, MAVERICKS 91

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Kawhi Leonard had 24 points and nine rebounds, and San Antonio defeated Dallas for its sixth straight victory.

Dallas guard Seth Curry matched a career high with 23 points. Wesley Matthews and Harrison Barnes each had 20 in the Mavericks' sixth consecutive loss.

With the Mavericks trailing 92-91, Barnes missed a fadeaway 17-footer with 15 seconds left that Manu Ginobili rebounded. Ginobili hit a pair of free throws, and Curry missed a 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining.

San Antonio has won six straight against Dallas and 12 in a row at home.

Dallas (2-11) is off to its worst start since 1993-1994, when the Mavericks opened 1-23 in a 13-win season.

LaMarcus Aldridge and Tony Parker were in uniform but neither played as San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich opted to rest his veterans.

                      • Tuesday’s six-pack

Six interesting college basketball scores from Monday:

                        — Wisconsin 74, Tennessee 62- Badgers were up 17 early; Vols caught up early in second half, went head for a while, but the more veteran team prevailed.

                        — Northwestern 77, Texas 58– Could be a huge win for Wildcats, who have never been in NCAA tournament.

                        — Bucknell 75, Vanderbilt 72— Oy. Bryce Drew’s old team (Valparaiso) is better than his new one (Vandy). Could be a long winter in Nashville.

                        — Creighton 86, Ole Miss 77— High-octane Bluejays win Paradise Jam.

                        — Oklahoma State 98, UConn 90— Brad Underwood is a really good coach. UConn is 1-3.

                        — Winthrop 84, Illinois 80 OT— Losses like this get coaches fired.

Tuesday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but……

                        13) Watching the Maui Classic Monday, got to hear Bill Walton do two games, along with Roxy Bernstein on ESPN2. Walton is a classic, a true original. Here is a partial list of the things he was discussing during the Tennessee-Wisconsin and Oregon-Georgetown games:

                        — Scrabble
                        — Grateful Dead and his love of music
                        — the Dakota Pipeline (Roxy got him off this subject pretty quickly)
                        — Banana bread
                        — the world record for amount of time holding your breath (24 minutes?)
                        — the origin of Georgetown’s mascot (Hoya)
                        — Davey Crockett (he is from Tennessee)

Walton does a lot of prep; I learn something new every time I listen to him, just that often it has zero to do with basketball. He is upbeat and fun to listen to.

                        12) Get well soon to Arizona Cardinals’ coach Bruce Arians, who was hospitalized Monday with chest pains. Original prognosis was apparently positive; hopefully he’ll be back on the sidelines very soon.

                        11) NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets have a player named Matt Calvert, who got 36 stitches in his face during a game with the Rangers last week. Mr Calvert got his stitches, came back into the game and wound up scoring the game-winning goal. Hockey players are tough.

                        10) Ryan Fitzpatrick is back at QB for the Jets this week; they play New England Sunday, in a game that was supposed to the Sunday night game until NBC flexed out of it and into the Chiefs-Broncos game.

                        9) LSU has to hire a football coach soon; Les Miles leaves big shoes to fill, but rumors are out there that big-name candidates are shying away from LSU, because AD Joe Alleva has a bad rap amongst coaches and administrators. People are hesitant to work for a guy who fired a coach with a record as good as Miles has.

                        8) Bears QB Jay Cutler may be out for the year with a shoulder issue; Matt Barkley is the backup right now— he’s played in five NFL games, but has never started one.

                        7) Quick basketball story: Long time ago I’m watching a high school basketball tournament with some friends; this is the first night of the tournament. Best player on the team that is losing gets his layup blocked, and he goes down in a heap, pounding the floor in pain. Three people carry him off and help him to the locker room.

One of my friends speaks up: “He isn’t hurt; his pride is hurt. He was getting his ass kicked and didn’t want to play anymore.” It was a bold statement bordering on rude, but we’re there again the next night, and the kid is out there against a lousy team, scores 30 points without a limp.

My friend was right; the kid had begged out of the game the first night. Go figure.

                        6) UCLA’s football team is not having a great year, in part because they had eight kids drafted by the NFL in April, the most Bruins picked in one draft since 1988.

                        5) Jim Grobe is the Interim football coach at Baylor this year, where one of the two best players they’ve had is Robert Griffin III. It is ironical that RGIII’s first game at Baylor was against Wake Forest, where the coach at the time was……Jim Grobe.

                        4) Mexico City is twice as big a city as Houston and Oakland….combined.

                        3) West Virginia got spanked at home by Oklahoma Saturday, but RB Justin Crawford ran ball 24 times for 330 yards, creating 11 missed tackles. He also fumbled near the goal line, which hurt West Virginia when they still had a chance to win, but 13.8 yds/carry is damn good.

                        2) FS1 (channel 219 on DirecTV) mainly televises just Big East basketball, which means you get to see a lot of low or mid-majors from now until Christmas, since Big East teams mostly take it easy with their pre-conference schedules.

It is fun to watch how low-major teams who are usually getting whacked use the game as an education, calling timeouts to teach certain situations; that’ll hopefully pay off for them when their conference play starts in January. But there are other reasons these games are played, too……

                        1) Speaking of which, I may not have these numbers exactly right, but if not I’m close; I got into a Twitter dialogue about this with ESPN’s Seth Greenberg last year.

Long Beach State pays basketball coach Dan Molson roughly $200K a year, but he actually makes around $600K, lot of money for a guy who has taken the 49ers to one NCAA tourney in his nine years in Long Beach. Where does the extra $400K come from?

Here are Long Beach State’s first five D-I games this season, all on the road, all coming with sizable guarantee checks attached: Wichita State-North Carolina-Louisville-UCLA-Washington. The extra $400K comes out of the guarantee money Long Beach gets for playing these games.

Long Beach has lost the first four of those this month, allowing 96.8 pts per game, with 26 points the closest loss of the four. Wonder what the players think about getting their butts kicked, just so their coach can fatten his bank account?
