      STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

      STREAKING

Zach Davies, Milwaukee Brewers (8-2, 2.79 ERA, $495):
It always seems hard to figure out whether not Davies is actually this good or not, but right now it’s hard to argue with the numbers. Davies owns a sparkling 0.50 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP over his last three starts. Davies and the Brewers host Tanner Roark and the Reds tonight, with Milwaukee on the board at -135 and a total of 9.5.

      SLUMPING

Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles (4-11, 5.28 ERA, $-469):
After mowing down the Blue Jays a couple starts ago, we were hoping not to see Bundy in this section again for a while, but here we are. Even with that start sandwiched in the middle, Bundy still has a 10.03 ERA and a 1.89 WHIP in his last three starts. He’s also allowed batters to get on pace at a more than a .400 clip while giving up four dingers in that stretch. Not surprisingly, the Bundy and the Orioles are big +170 dogs tonight in Arizona with a total of 9.

      BOYD IS BALLIN’

Starter Matt Boyd is the lone bright spot for the Tigers this season. While backing the Tigers in any game this season seems like a precarious proposition, the lefty provides value in other ways. Boyd is racking up strikeouts with the best of ‘em this season. He’s now at 160 for the year and has 42 over his last four starts (25.1 innings). So, his strikeout total of 6.5 for tonight’s game against the Phillies seems a little low. He’s had fewer than seven strikeouts just once in his last 11 starts. Take the Over.

        • Boston beats Tampa Bay 5-4, moves into 2nd place in AL East
          July 23, 2019
          By The Associated Press

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Christian Vazquez hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, Marcus Walden bailed Boston out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth and the Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Tuesday night to move into second place in the AL East for the first time since the second day of the season.

The defending World Series champions have recovered from a 3-8 start and improved to a season-high 10 games over .500 at 56-46, moving one percentage point ahead of the Rays (57-47), who have lost seven of eight.

Vazquez snapped a 2-2 tie with his second career pinch-homer, a drive into the left-field seats off Colin Poche (2-4).

Boston boosted the lead to 5-2 in the eighth when Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI groundout and Jackie Bradley Jr. was hit by a pitch from Adam Kolarek with the bases loaded, forcing in a run.

Ji-Man Choi's had a run-scoring single off Brandon Workman in the ninth. Walden entered with the bases loaded and two outs, walked Tommy Pham on four pitches, then retired Austin Meadows on a game-ending groundout.

Chris Sale (5-9) allowed two runs on Travis d'Arnaud's third-inning homer and limited the Rays to just three other hits. He struck out 10 over six innings.

          NATIONALS 11, ROCKIES 1

WASHINGTON (AP) - Trea Turner hit his second career cycle, Stephen Strasburg earned his major league-leading 13th win and Washington routed Colorado.

Turner led off the first with homer, singled in the second and tripled in the fifth. After grounding into a double play in the sixth, he doubled home a run during Washington's eight-run seventh.

Strasburg (13-4) pitched six innings for his sixth straight win. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Colorado rookie Peter Lambert (2-2) gave up three runs and nine hits. He struck out eight with a walk for the Rockies, who have lost seven of eight.

Nationals catcher Yan Gomes had two hits, including an RBI single in the sixth. Strasburg singled his first time up, giving him hits in four straight at-bats.

          YANKEES 14, TWINS 12, 10 INNINGS

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Aaron Hicks made a game-saving catch in center field for the final out in the 10th inning, Didi Gregorius had five hits and seven RBIs, and New York beat Minnesota in a game that featured five lead changes or ties in the final three innings.

Gleyber Torres scored Gregorius with an RBI single in the top of the 10th and New York tacked on another run on a wild pitch by Kohl Stewart (2-2). Adam Ottavino walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, and then Chad Green allowed a drive to Max Kepler into the left-center field gap. Hicks ran it down and caught it with a diving, backhanded effort at the warning track, ending the game after 5 hours, 3 minutes.

The madness began with New York's five-run eighth inning for a 10-9 lead. Mike Tauchman had an RBI double, then Aaron Judge and Gregorius added two-run doubles. The inning ended when Gary Sanchez grounded out and then was pulled with an apparent injury to his right leg.

Aroldis Chapman (3-2) earned the win after blowing his third save in six appearances and his sixth of the season in the ninth inning. He walked the first three batters, and Ehire Adrianza scored a tying run on Jorge Polanco's sacrifice fly.

          GIANTS 5, CUBS 4, 13 INNINGS

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Pablo Sandoval homered with one out in the 13th inning, lifting San Francisco past Chicago.

Sandoval just cleared the left-field fence with his first-pitch drive off Brad Brach (3-3) that went to replay and was upheld to formally finish the 3-hour, 45-minute game.

Sam Coonrod (1-0), San Francisco's fifth reliever, pitched the 13th for his first career victory.

Madison Bumgarner struck out seven over seven innings in another strong start.

Kris Bryant hit a pair of RBI singles, and Jason Heyward hit a tying single for the Cubs, who have lost 10 of the last 14 in San Francisco.

          METS 5, PADRES 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Robinson Cano hit three home runs, leading Jason Vargas and New York over San Diego.

The 36-year-old Cano drove in all five runs and went 4 for 4. Vargas pitched one-hit ball for six shutout innings.

Cano homered three times in a game for the first time in his career. It was just the third three-homer game ever by a Mets player at home - Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis both did it in July 2015.

After singling in the first, Cano hit a two-run homer off Chris Paddack (6-5) in the sixth and a two-run shot in the seventh off Logan Allen.

Vargas (5-5) put on a pitching clinic. He permitted only a single by Eric Hosmer in the fifth, struck out eight and walked three.

Edwin Diaz relieved with two on in the ninth and got his 22nd save in 26 chances.

          CARDINALS 4, PIRATES 3

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt homered for the second straight night, Jose Martinez added his 10th home run and Dakota Hudson rebounded from a shaky start to lead St. Louis past Pittsburgh.

Goldschmidt delivered a two-run drive in the third inning off Chris Archer (3-7). Martinez put St. Louis in front with a solo shot leading off the fifth, and Hudson and two relievers shut down the Pirates after spotting Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead.

Hudson (10-4) surrendered a Starling Marte homer and then settled down. The 24-year-old rookie worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up six hits and three walks. Giovanny Gallegos and Andrew Miller retired the last eight Pittsburgh batters, with Miller throwing a perfect ninth for his third save.

Pittsburgh fell to 2-9 since over its last 11 games, with four of the losses to St. Louis.

          BLUE JAYS 2, INDIANS 1

TORONTO (AP) - Justin Smoak tied the game with a homer in the ninth inning and knocked in the winning run with a two-out single in the 10th as Toronto beat Cleveland.

Smoak got the winning hit off lefty Tyler Olson (1-1), scoring Eric Sogard.

Toronto's Ken Giles (2-2) pitched one inning and earned the win.

The Indians carried a three-hitter into the ninth before Smoak spoiled the shutout bid, homering with a one-out off closer Brad Hand, who squandered a save opportunity for the second time in 29 chances.

Adam Cimber got the first two outs in the 10th inning. Olson came on and walked Sogard, who advanced to second on a wild pitch. Sogard moved to third on an infield single by Freddy Galvis and scored when Smoak singled off the glove of a diving Jose Ramirez at third base.

Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez allowed one run and five hits in five innings.

          ROYALS 5, BRAVES 4

ATLANTA (AP) - Lucas Duda delivered Kansas City's first pinch-hit homer of the season to break a tie in the eighth inning, and the Royals beat NL East-leading Atlanta.

Alex Gordon also homered for the Royals and drove in two runs.

Starters Dallas Keuchel of Atlanta and Danny Duffy of Kansas City went six strong innings with double-digit strikeouts but didn't factor in the decision. Keuchel allowed just three hits and struck out 12. Duffy surrendered one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts.

Ian Kennedy gave up three straight singles to start the ninth but bounced back for his 18th save.

Ronald Acuna extended his career-best on-base streak to 28 games when he was hit by a pitch in the third.

          REDS 14, BREWERS 6

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Eugenio Suarez hit his third two-run home run in two games and Cincinnati battered Zach Davies for seven runs in a rout of Milwaukee.

Jesse Winker and Joey Votto hit two-run homers and pinch-hitter Phillip Ervin had a three-run triple as Cincinnati beat the Brewers for the fifth straight time.

Davies (8-3) allowed six earned runs and nine hits in four-plus innings.

Tanner Roark (6-6) gave up two runs and six hits in five innings.

Manny Pina hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs for the Brewers.

          ORIOLES 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2

PHOENIX (AP) - Dwight Smith Jr. hit a three-run home run, Dylan Bundy pitched six solid innings and Baltimore beat Arizona.

Renato Nunez and Anthony Santander also homered for the Orioles.

Bundy (5-11) allowed two runs, four hits and three walks while striking out five for his second win in three starts.

Baltimore has won four of six.

T.J. McFarland struck out six in 2 2/3 innings of relief work for the Diamondbacks, who have lost three of four and fell three games out of the second National League wild card.

The Orioles tagged Merrill Kelly (7-10) for three runs in the second inning and four more in the third, chasing the Diamondbacks starter after 2 1/3 innings.

          RANGERS 7, MARINERS 2

SEATTLE (AP) - Rougned Odor homered twice, Nomar Mazara reached the third deck with an impressive shot and Texas ended an eight-game skid with a win over Seattle.

Shin-Soo Choo led off the game by homering on Tommy Milone's first pitch, and the Rangers went on to snap the fourth-longest losing streak in the majors this year. Seattle has lost three of four.

Milone (1-5) pitched through the sixth inning, giving up nine hits and striking out five.

Long reliever Pedro Payano (1-0) struck out seven and gave up one run and three hits in five innings following opener Brett Martin. It was his first major league win in his second appearance.

Omar Narvaez and J.P. Crawford had run-scoring hits for Seattle.

          MARLINS 5, WHITE SOX 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Caleb Smith retired his first 17 batters and cruised through seven innings of two-hit ball, and Miami beat Chicago.

Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer to cap Miami's four-run fourth inning against Dylan Covey (1-6). Harold Ramirez added a solo shot in the fifth as the NL-worst Marlins ended a four-game skid.

Smith (6-4) worked perfectly through a depleted White Sox lineup before walking Adam Engel and Leury Garcia with two outs in the sixth. Jon Jay followed by grounding a single to right for Chicago's first hit and only run. Smith struck out nine - including five straight over the fifth and sixth innings.

Covey allowed five runs and six hits through six innings.

Relievers Nick Anderson and Jarlin Garcia each tossed a perfect inning to close it out.

          ATHLETICS 4, ASTROS 3, 11 INNINGS

HOUSTON (AP) - Matt Olson hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning and Ramon Laureano added a ground-rule RBI double with one out in the 11th, giving Oakland a win over Houston.

It was tied at 3-3 when Olson singled off Collin McHugh (3-5) with one out in the 11th, before Mark Canha walked. Laureano then hit a ball to left field that rolled to the wall and lodged between the padding and the ground. Both runners scored by the time Josh Reddick got the ball and threw it in. But the play was reviewed and Canha was returned to third base because the ball was lodged under the wall.

Oakland starter Mike Fiers allowed six hits and two runs in 7 2/3 innings but did not factor into the decision. Yusmeiro Petit (3-2) struck out two in two perfect innings for the win.

Houston starter Miley struck out six and walked two in a season-high eight-plus innings.

          PHILLIES 3, TIGERS 2, 15 INNINGS

DETROIT (AP) - Scott Kingery tripled to lead off the 15th inning and scored on a single by Rhys Hoskins as Philadelphia outlasted Detroit.

Kingery, who had struck out four times, hit a drive to deep right off Daniel Stumpf (1-1) to start the winning rally. Hoskins followed with a clean single to right.

Detroit nearly won it in the 14th against Jose Alvarez (1-2), but left fielder Brad Miller threw Nicholas Castellanos out at the plate when he was trying to score on Brandon Dixon's one-out single.

Roman Quinn hit a two-run homer for Philadelphia. Castellanos tied it with an RBI double in the sixth for Detroit, which got an unearned run in the first.

And I left [for Alabama], not because I was unhappy, just because I wanted to go fulfill a dream. These guys have tough decisions in making decisions where they are going to go to college, and sometimes they may not get it right.

And to me it’s about the mental wellness of the student-athlete. And I think everybody that’s involved is definitely sensitive and really considers that, and I think that’s one of the things that we have to put to the forefront when it comes to kids that want to transfer. We need to help them find their way.”

              13) Few weeks ago, I posted something on here about a couple of brothers who are financial analysts in this area, and very successful ones. I went to college with one of them; good guys.

If you’re inclined towards prayer, please say one for the Fagan family; Chris was diagnosed with ALS and is fighting that hideous disease now.

His daughter Kate wrote a beautiful article about him recently.

              https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en...gan-father-als

              12) The next 7-8 days figure to have lot of baseball trades, which will be followed by lot of trade analysis, but until the trades happen, we’re stuck with lot of trade speculation, which is analysis of stuff that hasn’t or may not happen. In other words, a waste of time.

“We won’t all run out of money, but we’ll all run out of time.”

One of the biggest things about the Interweb is that there is so much stuff out there- time management is important, so you can learn as much as possible, without cluttering your brain. Nothing clutters my brain like speculation about that stuff that may/may not happen.

              11) When Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968, the person who took his place as a US Senator from New York was Charles Goodell (Roger Goodell’s father).

Someone posted an article on Twitter over the weekend about how after the first man walked on the moon in 1969, Charles Goodell criticized the space program for not being worth the money that was spent on it. Controversial opinion for sure, but have to give the guy credit for having the onions to say what he thought. Politicians don’t do that anymore; they cover their own butt.

              10) LSU spent $28M to re-do its football locker room; each player has a chair that folds out into a bed, complete with an iPad holder to watch film, charging ports and storage below the seat/bed. Pretty nice locker room.

              9) How do new NFL head coaches do in Week 1 of their first year?

Last year, the seven new head coaches went 0-7, after new coaches had gone 17-10 from 2014-17 in their season openers.

There are eight new head coaches this season; we’ll see how they do.

              8) San Antonio Spurs hired their former star player Tim Duncan as an assistant coach, which will be interesting. Duncan has never coached before.

              7) Mark Sanchez retired from the NFL and will join ESPN’s college football studio show; he’ll replace Mack Brown, who went back into coaching this season at North Carolina.

              Sanchez’ career:
              — 37-36 regular season record, 4-2 in playoffs.
              — All six of his playoff games were on the road.
              — Over $74M earned in salary.

              6) By way of comparison, other QB’s playoff records:
              — Derek Carr 0-0 (got hurt the year Oakland was really good)
              — Kirk Cousins 0-1
              — Andy Dalton 0-4
              — Tony Romo 2-4
              — Matt Ryan 4-6
              — Matthew Stafford: 0-3

              5) ESPN compared the history of USC and Alabama’s programs Tuesday, as far as alumni go; the best QB in USC history is Carson Palmer?

I know in their heyday the Trojans ran the ball down people’s throats, but Alabama has Stabler, Starr, Namath, all of whom were better than Palmer.

Other USC QB’s who played in the NFL; Sanchez, Pat Haden, Rodney Peete, Matt Cassel, Vince Evans, Todd Marinovich, Bill Nelsen.

              4) Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson has made about $100M in salary, and millions more in endorsements during his NFL career, but he’s deep in debt after his lawyer says he trusted people who ripped him off.

College athletes should be required to take money management courses while they’re in school; hell, maybe all of us should’ve done that, but for a guy who has made $100M+ to be deeply in debt is both sad and ridiculous.

              3) Baseball stuff:
              — Rays put 3B Yandy Diaz (bruised foot) on the IL.
              — Mariners put 2B Dee Gordon (quad) on the IL.

              2) Cincinnati Reds have hit 30 first-inning home runs, most in the majors.

              1) NCAA put DePaul’s basketball program on three years’ probation Tuesday and suspended Blue Demons coach Dave Leitao for three games.

Over the last 12 years, DePaul is 38-180 in Big East games; 38 and freakin’ 180!!!! If they’re cheating while going 38-180, what are the teams that are winning doing?

              • LEADING OFF: Minor, Stroman start on deadline radars
                July 23, 2019
                By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:

                DEADLINE SHOWCASE

Contenders will be tuned into starts by Texas left-hander Mike Minor and Toronto righty Marcus Stroman as the July 31 trade deadline nears. The free-falling Rangers have just about played their way out of contention for an AL wild card, and the 31-year-old could fetch a useful package of future pieces. Minor (8-5, 2.86) is set to face Seattle in a matinee. Stroman (6-10, 3.06) and the Blue Jays are set to play the Indians, who will pitch All-Star Game MVP Shane Bieber (9-3, 3.69). Stroman pitched seven scoreless innings against the Tigers in his previous start.

                WELL MET

Robinson Cano has finally found his groove with the Mets. The veteran second baseman slugged three homers in a game Tuesday night for the first time in his career, helping New York beat the Padres 5-2. Cano began the day batting just .243 with six homers in his first season with the Mets. Of his nine homers this season, five have come since the All-Star break. Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard (7-4, 4.36) will oppose Padres righty Dinelson Lamet (0-2, 5.14), who is making his fourth start since returning from Tommy John surgery.

                GET THE RIGHT PRICE

David Price (7-3, 3.61) tries to get back on track as the Red Sox attempt to finish a three-game sweep in Tampa Bay. Price allowed six runs in four innings against Baltimore on Friday, his first appearance since reigniting a public spat with Hall of Famer and Red Sox TV analyst Dennis Eckersley. Price will oppose Rays right-hander Charlie Morton (11-3, 2.61), who is also coming off a tough outing against the Yankees. Morton pitched six scoreless innings against Boston in their previous matchup on April 27.

                LA UPGRADE

The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to welcome the All-Star Game back to Dodger Stadium with a $100 million renovation of their landmark ballpark. The Dodgers unveiled the logo for next year's Midsummer Classic along with their latest modernization plans Tuesday for their 57-year-old home, the majors' third-oldest park. The primary addition will be a Centerfield Plaza area spanning nearly 2 acres behind the outfield fences that will include food, entertainment and a statue of Sandy Koufax, which will join a statue of Jackie Robinson already on the property.

                BACKSTOP BACK

Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is set to come off the injured list and start behind the plate for lefty Jon Lester in the afternoon series finale at San Francisco. Contreras has been sidelined by a sprained right foot. Lester (9-6, 3.87 ERA) is coming off a no-decision last Friday against the Padres in which he was tagged for 12 hits, matching the most he has allowed in his career. He is 5-1 with a 2.00 ERA in six career regular-season starts against the Giants.

Hottest team: Giants (9-1 last 10)

Bruce Bochy’s farewell tour as manager of the Giants looked to end on a sour note following a 21-33 start. However, San Francisco has pulled it together the last two months to not only forge above the .500 mark, but making a run at a Wild Card spot after an impressive 12-1 hot stretch since the All-Star break. San Francisco has won six of these games in extra innings, including four walk-off victories on its current homestand, capped off by Tuesday’s 5-4 triumph over the Cubs in 13 innings.

The Giants seek the sweep of Chicago this afternoon at Oracle Park as Tyler Beede takes the mound. San Francisco owns an impressive 6-1 record in the right-hander’s past seven starts, including an eight-inning scoreless effort against the Mets in a 1-0 walk-off win his last time out. The Giants look to improve on a six-game winning streak in series finales as San Francisco embarks on a nine-game road trip following today’s contest.

Coldest team: Pirates (2-9 last 11)

Pittsburgh has had its opportunities recently in the past three games on its homestand, but has come up short every time. It started with a 2-1 defeat in 11 innings against the Phillies on Sunday, followed by another extra-innings setback on Monday against the Cardinals. Pittsburgh jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on St. Louis last night, but the Pirates didn’t score again in a 4-3 loss as the Bucs have won only twice since the All-Star break.

Jordan Lyles is winless in his past seven starts for Pittsburgh, as the right-hander pitched well against Philadelphia his last time out but the Phillies pulled away late in a 6-1 victory. Lyles defeated the Cardinals at Busch Stadium as a +175 underdog in mid-May, 2-1, while allowing one hit and one earned run in six innings of work.

Hottest pitcher: Shane Bieber, Indians (9-3, 3.69 ERA)

Cleveland couldn’t close out Toronto on Tuesday after holding a 1-0 advantage heading into the ninth inning. The Blue Jays tied the game in the ninth and then won it in the 10th inning to hand Cleveland its second loss in the past 10 contests. Bieber is unbeaten in his past four starts as he received plenty of run support in a 10-5 victory over the Royals his last time out in spite of giving five runs in 5.2 innings of work. Cleveland has won four of Bieber’s past five road outings, while yielding two hits and two runs in six innings against Toronto in a 3-2 triumph back in April.

Coldest pitcher: Kyle Freeland, Rockies (2-7, 7.62 ERA)

It’s unbelievable how much things can change in one season as Freeland won 17 games in 2018 and tossed a gem against the Cubs in a Wild Card victory. However, the Rockies’ southpaw has allowed at least five runs in four consecutive starts dating back to May, while not lasting past the fourth inning in any of those outings. Freeland was tagged for five runs in an 8-2 loss to the Yankees as a +200 underdog last Friday night, dropping Colorado to 1-5 in his past six road starts. Freeland takes the ball in the second game of tonight’s doubleheader at Washington as the Rockies went 2-0 in his two starts against the Nationals last season.

Biggest OVER run: Brewers (5-0 last five)

The top spot in the NL Central has been a revolving door recently as the Brewers were atop the division, but the Cubs have moved into first place in spite of losing three straight games. Milwaukee has lost the first two games of its series with Cincinnati at Miller Park, while allowing 20 runs in the two defeats. The Reds lit up the Brewers last night, 14-6, but Milwaukee has scored at least five runs in eight consecutive games. Jhoulys Chacin takes the ball for the Brewers this afternoon as each of his last two starts have cashed the OVER, while Milwaukee owns a dreadful 1-9 record in his past 10 outings.

Biggest UNDER run: Padres (12-2 last 14)

San Diego’s offense came up dry in Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat to the Mets at Citi Field as the Padres fell behind, 5-0 before scoring two late runs. The Padres posted five runs in each of their three games at Wrigley Field last weekend, but San Diego’s starting pitchers haven’t helped out of late by not lasting past the fifth inning in any of the last five games. This UNDER run was helped out by two high totals in Chicago on Friday and Saturday with a pair of 12 ½’s in 6-5 decisions, but tonight’s total sits at 8 ½ against Noah Syndergaard. The Mets are 7-2 to the OVER in Syndergaard’s past nine home starts, while New York scored six runs or more in each of his last four outings at Citi Field.

Matchup to watch: Yankees vs. Twins

In what was probably the game of the season last night at Target Field, New York erased an 8-2 deficit to outlast Minnesota, 14-12 in 10 innings. The Yankees rallied to grab an 11-10 lead in the top of the eighth inning before the Twins re-took the advantage in the bottom of the inning on a two-run blast by Miguel Sano. New York jumped back in front in the top of the ninth inning on an Aaron Hicks home run, but Yankees’ closer Aroldis Chapman couldn’t hold the lead as the Twins tied it again to force extras with a sacrifice fly.

The Yankees eventually went back in front in the 10th with a pair of runs, but the highlight of the night belonged to Hicks, who robbed Max Kepler with the bases loaded and two outs with a tremendous catch on a slicing line drive to end the game. New York avoided its second three-game losing streak of the season, while Minnesota fell to 8-4 this season in the role of a home underdog.

The two division leaders play the rubber game this evening in Minneapolis as J.A. Happ squares off with Jake Odorizzi on the mound. Happ (8-5, 4.86 ERA) has allowed two earned runs or less in three straight outings, while coming off an 8-2 victory over Colorado last Friday. The Yankees own a terrific 7-1 record when Happ starts on the road, but the southpaw lost to the Twins in the Bronx in early May, 7-3 as he was tagged for four runs in less than six innings of work.

Odorizzi (11-4, 3.18 ERA) picked up a no-decision against the Athletics in his past start in a 5-3 setback as the right-hander yielded three runs in five innings of work. Minnesota had won each of Odorizzi’s previous seven starts at Target Field prior to that loss to Oakland, as the last home defeat suffered with the hurler on the mound came on March 30 against Cleveland. Odorizzi defeated Happ and the Yankees back on May 4 as a short underdog by tossing six scoreless innings and striking out eight batters.

Betcha didn’t know: The Royals have caught fire of late by winning eight of their last 11 games, including Tuesday’s 5-4 triumph as a +205 underdog at Atlanta. Things got dicey in the ninth inning as the Braves threatened with the tying run, but Kansas City’s bullpen held on for its first victory as ‘dog of +200 or higher since June 25 at Cleveland. Georgia native Brad Keller takes the mound tonight for the Royals, as Kansas City is 4-0 in his past four starts since a 1-10 run from late April through late June.
