Friday’s List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here…….

      13) Twins 10, White Sox 3— In his first 12 AB’s vs Chicago this season, Nelson Cruz was 8-12 with six home runs. Minnesota is on a MLB record-setting home run pace this year.

There have been seven 3-HR games at Guaranteed Rate Field, only one by a Chicago player.

      12) Funny moment on the White Sox telecast last night, when they showed the only home run Giants’ broadcaster Duane Kuiper hit in his 12-year major league career.

Kuiper was a pretty good player, mostly for Cleveland; he hit .271 in his career, but his OPS was only .641, so not lot of pop there. The reason the White Sox showed his homer last night is because he hit it off of White Sox broadcaster Steve Stone, who went 15-12 that year, but lost 9-2 to the Indians that night.

Stone was a good sport (he is a great analyst) and it made for a couple laughs.

      11) After averaging 16,843 fans for their first 16 home games, Minnesota Twins have averaged 31,516 fans over their past 36 games at Target Field. They’ve had eight sellouts this season. Winning generates interest.

      10) Under went 22-8-1 in baseball Tuesday/Wednesday; handicapping baseball is a daily grind and a tough one. The balls are juiced, but you still have to make contact for them to leave the yard.

      9) Angels swept Freeway Series from Dodgers 4-0 this year, first time they’ve ever done that.

      8) Tampa Bay Rays’ ace Blake Snell is done for several weeks; he’s going to have his elbow scoped- they hope to have him back in September.

      7) Baseball stuff:
      — Tyler White was traded from Houston to the Dodgers for minor league P Andre Scrubb.
      — Tampa Bay put P Blake Snell (elbow) on the IL.
      — Texas put OF Joey Gallo (broken hand) on the IL.
      — New York put OF Brett Gardner (knee) on the IL.

      6) If you care about such things, Falcons are -2 over Denver with a total of 34 in the Hall of Fame game in Canton next week. First NFL game of the preseason.

      5) Pittsburgh Steelers open on road (at Foxboro) for 5th straight year; since ’97, Pitt is 1-8-1 vs spread when an underdog in their road opener; five of their last six RO’s stayed under total.

      4) Oft-injured Troy Tulowitzki retired Thursday after a 13-year playing career; he hit .290 with an .856 career OPS, made five All-Star teams, was a big part of the 2007 NL champ Rockies.

      3) Happy birthday (Thursday) to one of my boyhood heroes, Biff Pocoroba, who turned 66 years old this week. A switch-hitting catcher, Pccoroba hit .257 in a 10-year career, making the 1978 All-Star Game (he caught the 9th inning).

Also, Caddyshack hit theaters this week in 1980. Very funny movie.

      2) 947 people have already signed up for the $1,500/entry Westgate SuperContest in Las Vegas, where you pick five NFL games a week against the spread.

      1) Wow, the Federal Trade Commission fined Facebook $5B for losing control over tons of personal data and mishandling its communications with users. Apparently, $5B is only one month’s worth of revenue for Facebook, which is kind of staggering.

      • LEADING OFF: Homers in 3s, Goldy licks, Wheeler watch
        July 26, 2019
        By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors today:

        THREE FOR FOUR

Who will be the next player to hit three home runs in a game? Twins slugger Nelson Cruz did it for the first time in his career Thursday night during a 10-3 victory at the Chicago White Sox. His outburst followed three-homer games by Mets second baseman Robinson Cano on Tuesday night and Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong on Wednesday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it's the first time in major league history there's been a three-homer game on three consecutive days.

The 39-year-old Cruz, a six-time All-Star with 385 career homers, has six long balls in his last four games. Max Kepler and Miguel Sano also connected as Minnesota totaled at least five homers for a major league-record ninth time this season, according to STATS.

        GOLDY LICKS

Paul Goldschmidt looks to homer in his fifth straight game when the surging Cardinals host AL West-leading Houston in the opener of an interleague series. Astros shortstop Carlos Correa (broken rib) is expected to come off the 60-day injured list. St. Louis has won five in a row and eight of nine to tie the Chicago Cubs atop the NL Central, grabbing a share of the division lead for the first time since early May. Goldschmidt had nine RBIs and four of the Cardinals' 12 home runs during a four-game sweep of Pittsburgh.

        ALL EYES ON ZACK

Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler (6-6, 4.69 ERA) comes off the injured list to pitch against the skidding Pirates in his first start since July 7 after dealing with a shoulder impingement. Wheeler has been a hot name as the July 31 trade deadline nears, and contending teams are likely to be paying close attention to his health and performance.

        A CALL TO ARMS

James Paxton (5-5, 4.20 ERA) tries to restore order to the Yankees' battered pitching staff at Fenway Park. New York starters have allowed 40 runs over their last five games, something they hadn't done since 1912. Boston's 19-3 victory Thursday night was its biggest win over the Yankees in the 117-year history of the rivalry. Masahiro Tanaka (7-6) gave up 12 runs and 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings for the AL East leaders, the second-most earned runs ever permitted by a Yankees pitcher - Carl Mays gave up 13 in a complete game against Cleveland in 1923.

Boston has scored eight or more runs in four consecutive games against the Yankees for the first time since 1912, the year Fenway Park opened.

Paxton pitched eight innings of two-hit ball against the Red Sox on April 16, striking out 12. Andrew Cashner (9-5) seeks his first win for Boston since he was acquired from Baltimore in a trade. He's 2-5 with a 3.96 ERA in 10 starts against the Yankees.

        OCTOBER CONTENDERS

Playoff-hopeful Washington welcomes the National League-leading Dodgers for a three-game series, with Los Angeles sending All-Star Game starter Hyun-Jin Ryu (11-2, 1.76 ERA) to the mound against Anibal Sanchez (6-6, 3.80 ERA).

        • Friday's Diamond Notes
          Kevin Rogers

Hottest team: Cardinals (8-2 last 10)

St. Louis has pulled into a first-place tie with Chicago atop the NL Central as the Cardinals have won 11 of 14 games since the All-Star break. The Redbirds lost their first game following the break to the Diamondbacks to slip to 44-45, but St. Louis has moved to 55-47 with the hot stretch, capped off by a four-game road sweep of the Pirates. The Cardinals have won all four series in the second half, but the next four opponents will be a major test for St. Louis as it faces the Astros, Cubs, Athletics, and Dodgers.

The lone interleague series this weekend takes place at Busch Stadium as the Cardinals welcome in the Astros in a matchup of former NL Central rivals. Houston has won seven its past eight games, but the Astros are 3-6 the last nine interleague contests. Jack Flaherty has allowed one run in each of his past three starts, but St. Louis owns a 1-5 record in his previous six outings, including an 0-3 mark at home.

Coldest team: Padres (3-9 last 12)

San Diego travels back home after a 3-6 road swing, punctuated by a 4-0 setback to the Mets on Thursday. The Padres were blanked for the first time since May 29, which also came in New York to the Yankees in a 7-0 defeat. The first half ended on a high note for the Padres, who won the final three games against the NL West-leading Dodgers on the road, but San Diego has dropped all four series since the All-Star break, including series losses to the Marlins and Mets.

The Padres return to Petco Park playing with revenge against the red-hot Giants as San Francisco pulled off a three-game sweep of San Diego in early July. Joey Lucchesi tries to get the Padres on track as the southpaw despite failing to win in his last two home starts. Lucchesi shut down the Giants at home back in late March, but lost in each of his two road matchups with San Francisco, while allowing 10 runs in 10 innings of those two defeats at Oracle Park.

Hottest pitcher: Dario Agrazal, Pirates (2-0, 2.25 ERA)

Pittsburgh has fallen apart of late by losing 11 of 13 games since the All-Star break, as the Pirates hit the road to face the Mets. The only consistent pitcher in the Pirates’ rotation of late is Agrazal, who has tossed six innings in each of his last four starts, while yielding five earned runs in this span. Pittsburgh had won three consecutive starts by Agrazal against Houston, Milwaukee, and St. Louis in the underdog role, but the Pirates dropped a 2-1 decision to the Phillies as a home favorite his last time out. The Mets have won consecutive home games only once since June 13, as New York is fresh off a shutout of San Diego.

Coldest pitcher: Sandy Alcantara, Marlins (4-9, 4.25 ERA)

The Miami right-hander tossed a gem at Philadelphia on June 21 as a +225 underdog in a 2-1 victory as he allowed one run in 7.2 innings of work. Since then, the Marlins have lost his past four starts, each coming by two runs or more. Alcantara was tagged for six runs in five innings of work in a 10-6 defeat at Los Angeles as a heavy underdog last Saturday, while the Marlins are riding an 0-5 skid in his past five home starts. Things don’t get easier for Alcantara as he opposes former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke and the Diamondbacks at home on Friday night.

Biggest OVER run: Twins (5-0 last five)

Minnesota’s offense remained on fire in Thursday’s blowout of Chicago as Nelson Cruz went deep three times in a 10-3 rout. The game easily went OVER the total of 8 ½, the first total for Minnesota that was not in double-digits since July 14 at Cleveland, a span of 10 games. The Twins have scored at least seven runs during each game of this stretch, while finally limiting an opponent to less than five runs for the first time in seven contests. Michael Pineda takes the mound for the Twins as the right-hander has seen the OVER hit in three of his last four starts, including in a 10-3 pounding of the White Sox back on June 29.

Biggest UNDER run: Phillies (9-3 last 12)

Philadelphia had high expectations placed on them before the season, but has not lived up to them yet. However, the Phillies have played better of late by winning seven of their past 10 games, while allowing two runs or fewer in four of the previous five contests. Granted, the offense hasn’t blown up in this span by scoring 10 runs in the last four games, but the Phillies grabbed road series wins against Pittsburgh and Detroit. The Phillies welcome in the division-leading Braves this weekend for a pivotal series as Jake Arrieta is coming off back-to-back starts in which he yielded one run apiece in wins over the Nationals and Pirates.

Matchup to watch: Cubs vs. Brewers

The NL Central race has tightened up between Chicago, St. Louis, and Milwaukee, who are separated by two games heading into the weekend. The Cubs visit Miller Park for the first time since early April as Chicago snapped a three-game skid in Wednesday’s 4-1 triumph at San Francisco. Chicago tries to end a dreadful 1-7 stretch in road series openers since late May, while seeking consecutive away victories for only the second time since May 1.

The Brewers also avoided a sweep in their last series by edging the Reds, 5-4 as heavy -160 favorites on Wednesday behind Yasmani Grandal’s two-run single in a three-run fifth inning to put Milwaukee up for good. Since a 2-8 slump in early July, the Crew has won six of their last nine games, but Milwaukee will be looking to improve on a 1-9 record in its past 10 home series openers.

Kyle Hendricks (7-8, 3.41 ERA) is winless in his past five starts for Chicago in spite of yielding two runs in each of his previous four outings. The latest defeat came as a -180 home favorite against the Padres last Sunday, but the blame doesn’t fall on Hendricks, who allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings of a 5-1 loss as the Cubs scored their only run in the first inning. Hendricks lost at Milwaukee on April 7 in a 4-2 setback as the right-hander tossed four innings and the Cubs couldn’t overcome an early 4-0 deficit.

The Brewers send out veteran southpaw Gio Gonzalez (2-1, 3.60 ERA), who is coming off his first start in nearly two months in an 8-3 victory at Arizona last Saturday. Gonzalez received a no-decision after pitching four innings as the Brewers rallied late for six runs to help Milwaukee to improve to 5-1 in his past six outings. The last time Gonzalez faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field on May 10, he posted 5.2 scoreless innings in a 7-0 shutout as a +115 underdog.

          Betcha didn’t know:
Andrew Cashner was money in the bank with the Orioles before getting dealt to the Red Sox in mid-July. The Orioles won six of his final seven starts, including four victories as an underdog of +150 or higher. Following the trade to Boston, Cashner flipped to a heavy favorite against Toronto and Baltimore and promptly lost to each of those squads, while allowing 10 runs. Cashner hasn’t had much luck with the Yankees as Boston and New York square off on Friday following the Red Sox rout of the Bronx Bombers, 19-3 on Thursday. The Orioles lost all three starts by Cashner against New York this season, while the righty last beat the Yankees as a +210 underdog in July 2018, but Baltimore picked up a walk-off win, 6-5.

                            STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

                            STREAKING

Mike Soroka, Atlanta Braves (10-2, 2.46 ERA, $793):
While the 21-year-old All-Star is coming off a rocky performance in a loss against the Nationals, if you look at the longer-term picture he's still streaking with the Braves going 8-1 over his last nine starts. He's been absolutely incredible on the road where he has compiled a 6-0 record with a 1.13 ERA and BAA of .179 in nine starts.

Soroka and Atlanta will be on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies and starter Jake Arrieta (8-7, 4.40 ERA). The Braves are winless in their last five games in Philly but are -135 faves today. The O/U is installed at 9.5 and with the Under going 18-6-2 in Atlanta's last 26 games and 5-0 in the Phillies last five games, the Under is certainly worth a look today.

                            SLUMPING

Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins (4-9, 4.25 ERA, $-141):
The Marlins are just 2-8 in the right-hander's last ten starts. Alcantara has been especially bad in his last four starts with an ERA of 7.15 and WHIP of 1.63 with seven home runs allowed through 22 2-3 innings. Tonight, Alcantara and the Marlins are +160 underdogs against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Alcantara shouldn't count on much run support from his side, Miami averages a major league-worst 3.57 runs per game and will be taking on Zack Greinke who is 10-4 with a 2.93 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.

                            3 STRIKES

                            NOT YOUR USUAL FAVORITE

The Seattle Mariners are 25-52 in their last 77 games and will be starting Yusei Kikuchi who is 4-7 with a 5.37 ERA. But they're -125 favorites at home against the lowly Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are 12-48 in their previous 60 games overall and 3-14 in their last 17 contests in Seattle. Detroit will have Daniel Norris and his 2-8 record with a 5.02 ERA on the mound.

                            A PAIR OF PAULS

The Astros are back to their winning ways going 7-1 over their last eight games but will be on the road today against the St. Louis Cardinals who have won five in a row.

Cards starter Jack Flaherty has allowed just two runs over 18 1-3 innings in his last three starts. He has been excellent at home with 3.22 ERA and BAA of .202 on the season. The 'Stros will start rookie Jose Urquidy against a Cardinals lineup that has hit very well recently with a slugging percentage of .531 over the last week. In particular St. Louis sluggers Paul DeJong and Paul Goldschmidt have been on fire, combining for eight dingers and 20 RBI during that seven-game stretch.

The Cardinals are small underdogs but have gone 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in the head to head. At BetAmerica the Over 1.5 on DeJong's total bases is +120, while the O1.5 on Goldie's total bases pays out at +125.

BRINGING THEIR "A" GAME FOLLOWING A LOSS

The Oakland Athletics are coming off a crushing 11-3 defeat against the Rangers but will look for revenge tonight with Daniel Mengden and his glorious moustache on the mound. The Athletics are 13-3 in their last 16 games following a loss and 6-1 in Mengden's previous seven starts.

The Rangers will start Lance Lynn and although the righty is 12-6 with a 3.93 ERA he is coming off a couple of rough starts where he allowed a total of nine runs through 13 innings. The Rangers are 2-9 in their last 11 games overall and just 5-15 in the previous 20 contests in the head-to-head.

                            • Mookie Betts hits 3 HRs, lifts Red Sox over Yankees 10-5
                              July 26, 2019
                              By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) Mookie Betts hit three home runs against James Paxton during the first four innings Friday night in the Boston Red Sox's 10-5 victory over the New York Yankees, whose starting pitchers have stumbled this week in historic fashion.

Betts homered on Paxton's eighth pitch in a three-run first that included J.D. Martinez's two-run homer, went deep again leading off the third for a 4-0 lead and hit a two-run drive in the fourth for a 7-0 advantage.

Betts added an RBI double in the sixth off David Hale to give him five RBIs and grounded out in the eighth. With his fifth career three-homer game, Betts raised his season total to 18 homers.

Batters have had three-homer games on four straight days for the first time in big league history. Betts followed the New York Mets' Robinson Cano, St. Louis' Paul DeJong and Minnesota's Nelson Cruz.

Andrew Cashner (10-5), coming off losses in his first two starts after Boston acquired him from Baltimore, allowed three runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Martinez had three RBIs for the Red Sox, who won the opener of the four-game series 19-3 and have pulled within nine games of the AL East-leading Yankees.

Paxton (5-6) became just the fourth pitcher in big league history to allow a leadoff home run in three straight starts, according to STATS, after Brad Radke (2004), Brandon Backe (2008) and Yovani Gallardo (2017).

                              DODGERS 4, NATIONALS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Justin Turner hit a two-out, three-run homer in the eighth inning to lift Los Angeles over Washington in the opener of a three-game series.

After the Nationals had retired 22 straight batters, reliever Tony Sipp (1-2) walked Joc Pederson and then gave up a single to Alex Verdugo before exiting with two outs in the eighth. Kyle Barraclough, who was recalled earlier on Friday from Double-A, came in and immediately gave up the Turner blast to center field. Turner has 15 homers this season.

Joe Kelly (4-3) retired Anthony Rendon to end the seventh while Kenley Jansen walked home a run before striking out Howie Kendrick with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to earn his 25th save of the season.

Nationals starter Anibal Sanchez retired the final 20 batters he faced. Sanchez struck out six, while allowing one run on three hits.

Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed eight hits and one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.

                              CARDINALS 5, ASTROS 3

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt extended his homer streak to a career-high five games with a three-run drive in the eighth inning, and surging St. Louis took over first place in the NL Central with a win over Houston.

Matt Wieters also connected as St. Louis won for the ninth time in 10 games. The Cardinals grabbed sole possession of the division lead for the first time since before play on May 7.

Michael Brantley homered for the AL West-leading Astros, who lost for just the second time in nine games. Yuli Gurriel had two hits, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Brantley's bases-loaded walk gave Houston a 3-2 lead in the eighth, but St. Louis went ahead to stay in the bottom half. Dexter Fowler started the rally with a leadoff walk and Jose Martinez doubled before Goldschmidt hit his team-high 23rd homer off Ryan Pressly (2-2), barely clearing the outstretched glove of a leaping George Springer in center.

Andrew Miller (4-4) got one out for the win, and Carlos Martinez worked the ninth for his 10th save in 12 chances.

                              METS 6, PIRATES 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Trade candidate Zack Wheeler showed off a live arm in his return from the injured list, Jeff McNeil hit the first of four Mets homers and New York beat slumping Pittsburgh.

Wheeler (7-6) struck out seven over 5 1/3 innings in his first start since July 7 due to right shoulder fatigue - an issue he called an impingement. With contending teams watching closely, the right-hander averaged 96.8 mph on his fastball and looked sharp until Adam Frazier clocked a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Wheeler allowed three runs, six hits and no walks.

McNeil hit a three-run homer, and Todd Frazier, Pete Alonso and Wilson Ramos added solo shots for the Mets. Alonso's homer was his 34th.

Pirates rookie starter Dario Agrazal (2-1) got roughed up for the first time in his short big league career, and Pittsburgh dropped its sixth straight. The Pirates are 2-13 since the All-Star break.

                              BREWERS 3, CUBS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Ben Gamel hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat Chicago and knock the Cubs out of first place.

Gio Gonzalez didn't allow a hit to the Cubs until the sixth, when Alberto Almora Jr. reached on an infield single and David Bote followed with his 10th home run.

Christian Yelich started Milwaukee's comeback in the seventh when he greeted Brandon Kintzler (2-1) with an RBI single.

Adrian Hauser (4-4) pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings. Josh Hader worked around Kris Bryant's one-out single in the ninth, striking out two for his 23rd save in 25 chances.

Chicago, which had held at least a share of the NL Central lead since after play on July 4, dropped one game behind St. Louis. Milwaukee closed within a game of the Cubs.

                              ROCKIES 12, REDS 2

CINCINNATI (AP) - Daniel Murphy hit a three-run homer and a three-run double for a career-high six RBIs, leading Colorado over Cincinnati and giving the Rockies consecutive wins for the first time since June 28 and 29.

Murphy homered in the first off All-Star Luis Castillo (9-4) and doubled in the ninth against Jared Hughes, raising his career average against the Reds to .350.

David Dahl hit a two-run homer, and Charlie Blackmon had three hits and two RBIs for the Rockies, who had lost 16 of 19 before winning 8-7 at Washington on Thursday.

German Marquez (6-9) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings, struck out seven and walked none, his second straight sharp outing after allowing a career-worst 11 runs against San Francisco.

Castillo lost for the first time in four starts since June 29.

                              BRAVES 9, PHILLIES 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ronald Acuna Jr. had two hits and three RBIs, Brian McCann hit a solo homer and Atlanta cruised past Philadelphia.

Mike Soroka gave up one run and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings but was removed with the bases loaded and a 5-1 lead. Sean Newcomb (4-1) earned the win by retiring J.T. Realmuto on a soft grounder to end the inning.

The NL East-leading Braves had lost six of eight before their first win in Philadelphia in six games, dating to last season.

The Phillies fell 6 1/2 games behind Atlanta, but is in the mix for a wild card with the trade deadline coming up next week.

Philadelphia's Jake Arrieta (8-8) allowed five runs - four earned - and five hits in five innings.

                              TWINS 6, WHITE SOX 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Nelson Cruz homered for the seventh time in his last five games, and the slugging Minnesota Twins became the fastest team to reach 200 homers in major league history during a win over Chicago.

Max Kepler hit a three-run drive in the second inning for the landmark homer in Minnesota's 103rd game of the season. The previous mark was 122 games by the Texas Rangers in 2005.

The AL Central-leading Twins hit five homers in the series opener to become the first team in major league history with nine five-homer games in a season.

Minnesota right-hander Michael Pineda (7-5) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings. He has a 2.87 ERA in his last eight starts.

Adam Engel homered for the slumping White Sox, who have dropped four straight and 12 of 15.

Chicago starter Dylan Cease (1-3) permitted five runs and seven hits in five innings in his third straight loss since winning his major league debut July 3.

                              INDIANS 8, ROYALS 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Jose Ramirez homered for the second consecutive game, a three-run shot that sent rookie Zach Plesac and Cleveland past Kansas City.

Francisco Lindor had three hits, including an RBI triple, as the Indians stayed two games behind first-place Minnesota in the AL Central. Cleveland has won three straight and nine of 11, improving to 16-4 in July.

Ramirez's drive in the sixth inning made it 5-1. The switch-hitting slugger launched a tiebreaking homer in the 14th inning of Cleveland's 5-4 win over the Royals on Thursday night. He has seven home runs and 21 RBIs this month, and the Indians are 30-3 when Ramirez drives in a run.

Plesac (5-3) gave up just an unearned run and six hits in seven strong innings. He made a great defensive play in the sixth when he went into a headlong dive to snare a foul popup near the Kansas City dugout.

Jakob Junis (6-9) gave up six runs and 10 hits in six-plus innings after coming off the paternity list.

                              RAYS 3, BLUE JAYS 1

TORONTO (AP) - Ryan Yarbrough won his fourth straight decision, Travis d'Arnaud hit a two-run single and Tampa Bay beat Toronto.

After opener Diego Castillo worked a 1-2-3 first, Yarbrough (9-3) allowed one run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief. The left-hander walked one and struck out four.

Chaz Roe went 1 2/3 innings and Colin Poche finished for his first major league save.

The Rays, who had lost seven of nine, won back-to-back games for the first time since a three-game streak from July 13-15. Tampa Bay is 6-1 against Toronto this season.

The Blue Jays, held to one hit by Cleveland starter Shane Bieber on Wednesday, managed four against four Rays pitchers.

Making his fifth big league appearance, Toronto right-hander Jacob Waguespack (1-1) permitted three runs and six hits in five-plus innings.

                              MARLINS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 2

MIAMI (AP) - Harold Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to left Miami past Arizona.

Ramirez's drive to center off reliever Yoshihisa Hirano was deep enough to score Neil Walker, capping the two-run rally that started off closer Greg Holland (1-2).

The Marlins' comeback kept Arizona starter Zack Greinke from earning another victory against Miami. Greinke allowed a first-inning run before retiring 11 consecutive batters. The right-hander went six innings and scattered four hits, struck out five and walked one. He is 7-0 in his career against the Marlins.

Jose Quijada (1-3) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

                              GIANTS 2, PADRES 1
