NEW YORK (AP) Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman combined for three innings of perfect relief for the second straight game, Rob Refsnyder hit a tiebreaking single and the New York Yankees took advantage of three errors to rally past the Minnesota Twins 5-3 Friday night.

Masahiro Tanaka (5-2) beat the Twins for the second time in seven days, allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings.

New York's ''No Runs DMC'' relief trio improved to 11-0 when all appearing together, with Chapman striking out three batters on 11 strikes - for his 14th save in 15 chances. His first 10 pitches were all 100 mph or more on the scoreboard before freezing Kurt Suzuki with a changeup for a called third strike.

Making his first big league start since April 25, Tommy Milone (0-2) allowed four runs - three earned - six hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings.

    INDIANS 7, TIGERS 4

DETROIT (AP) - Jason Kipnis hit two of Cleveland's four triples and the Indians continued their season-long dominance of Detroit.

The Indians are now 7-0 against the Tigers this season. Detroit had won 16 of 20 at home and was coming off a four-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners.

Danny Salazar (9-3) struggled with his command, walking five in 5 2/3 innings, but held the Tigers to three runs on four hits.

Jordan Zimmermann (9-5) allowed seven runs on nine hits in a season-worst 3 2/3 innings. After posting a 1.50 ERA in his first seven starts, Zimmermann has allowed at least six runs in four of his last seven.

WHITE SOX 3, BLUE JAYS 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Melky Cabrera homered, Todd Frazier drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the seventh, and Chicago beat Toronto.

The White Sox started a six-game homestand on a winning note after taking three of four at Boston, while the Blue Jays lost for the fourth time in five games.

Cabrera drove a solo homer off Aaron Sanchez in the fifth and finished with three hits against his former team.

Frazier broke a 2-2 tie with a sharp single to left with two outs in the seventh against Jesse Chavez (4-2) after Tim Anderson led off with a double under third baseman Josh Donaldson's glove.

David Robertson escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth for his 19th save in 21 chances. He struck out Edwin Encarnacion swinging at a low 3-2 fastball and retired Michael Saunders on a popup to end the game.

Nate Jones (3-2) worked a scoreless inning in relief. Carlos Rodon gave up two runs and six hits while pitching into the sixth.

    ORIOLES 6, RAYS 3

BALTIMORE (AP) - Adam Jones homered to start a four-run sixth inning, and Baltimore handed Tampa Bay its eighth straight loss.

Manny Machado marked his return from a four-game suspension by hitting his 18th home run in the eighth for the Orioles. Machado received the suspension for charging Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura on June 7.

After falling into an early 3-0 hole, the Orioles finally got their first baserunner against Matt Moore (3-5) in the fifth inning and turned the game around in the sixth.

Jones got the AL East-leaders within a run with his 14th homer, Chris Davis added a two-run single and a Tampa Bay throwing error made it 5-3.

Rookie Ashur Tolliver (1-0) got two outs in the sixth to earn his first major league win and Zach Britton worked the ninth for his 22nd save.

Corey Dickerson homered for the last-place Rays.

    PADRES 13, REDS 4

CINCINNATI (AP) - Wil Myers drove in five runs and Melvin Upton Jr. hit a pair of two-run homers as San Diego scored in each of the first eight innings and spoiled the start of Cincinnati's Big Red Machine weekend.

The National League's top-scoring team in June kept at it, hitting four homers. San Diego is averaging 5.86 runs in the month.

Myers had a solo shot off Cody Reed (0-1) in the first, singled home a run and had a bases-loaded double. Adam Rosales also had a solo homer.

Colin Rea (4-3) got the win by going five innings and allowing four runs, only one earned.

The Reds honored their 1976 World Series championship team on the field pregame, and players wore throwback uniforms to the days of the Big Red Machine. Pete Rose, who will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame and have his No. 14 officially retired over the weekend, was the last player introduced.

    RED SOX 8, RANGERS 7

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Dustin Pedroia scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch as Boston rallied past Texas.

Betts' 15th homer came with two outs off Matt Bush (2-1), who had just taken over after pinch-hitter Sandy Leon had an RBI double on the 11th pitch of his at-bat against Jake Diekman. Pedroia then walked, went to third on Xander Bogaerts' single and came home on the wild pitch.

The Red Sox trailed 6-0 early after starter David Price allowed 12 hits in only 2 1/3 innings.

Heath Hembree (4-0) worked a scoreless eighth before Koji Uehara struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.

    MARINERS 4, CARDINALS 3

SEATTLE (AP) - Adam Lind hit a game-winning three-run home run in the ninth inning off St. Louis closer Trevor Rosenthal as Seattle snapped a six-game losing streak.

The Mariners opened the ninth with a double by Kyle Seager and a walk to Dae-Ho Lee. Lind reached down and drove a 1-1 pitch out to right field for his fourth career walk-off home run. It was the third home run allowed this season by Rosenthal (2-3) and his third blown save.

St. Louis had scored three times in the eighth inning without the help of a base hit. Seattle reliever Joaquin Benoit issued three walks and a hit batter and Kyle Seager's error on Matt Holliday's hard ground ball allowed two runs to score.

Donn Roach (1-0) got the last five outs to get his first win.

    DIAMONDBACKS 10, ROCKIES 9

DENVER (AP) - Yasmany Tomas homered twice and drove in four runs, Michael Bourn had a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning and Arizona rallied for the win.

Jean Segura had three hits and scored the winning run for the Diamondbacks, who have won seven of their last eight.

Tomas' solo shot with one out in the ninth off Carlos Estevez (1-5) tied the game. Segura doubled one out later and Bourn singled him home with a sharp liner to left.

Estevez also got the loss in Arizona's 7-6 win Thursday night.

Tomas hit a three-run homer in Arizona's six-run seventh for his third career multihomer game.

Josh Collmenter (1-0) pitched to one batter in the eighth and Brad Ziegler worked a shaky ninth for his 16th save.

    ATHLETICS 7, ANGELS 4

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Khris Davis hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the eighth inning to lead Oakland past Los Angeles.

Davis connected off of Fernando Salas (3-4) for his second home run of the series and his 18th of the season.

Ryan Dull (2-2) pitched one inning for the win. Ryan Madson earned his 14th save in 17 chances by getting Albert Pujols on a ground out with two runners on.

Pujols hit 573rd career homer for the Angels, who lost their fifth straight to fall a season-worst 12 games below .500 (31-43). Pujols tied Harmon Killebrew for 11th on the career list with his 13th of the season - first since June 5.

    GIANTS 5, PHILLIES 4

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Jake Peavy threw seven strong innings in another solid start, Brandon Belt hit a three-run double and Angel Pagan had three hits as San Francisco beat Philadelphia.

The Giants trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Belt cleared the bases with a shot to center off Elvis Araujo (1-1).

San Francisco has won 12 of its last 13 games and 31 of 40, tying a record for the best 40-game clip in franchise history (June 12-July 21, 1954).

Peavy (4-6), 1-5 with an 8.21 ERA over his first nine starts, is 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA in his last six after allowing two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Santiago Casilla got Tyler Goeddel to ground out for the final out for his 17th save after loading the bases.

The Phillies have lost 10 of their last 11.

    PIRATES 8, DODGERS 6

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Matt Joyce homered and doubled among his three hits as Pittsburgh snapped Los Angeles' six-game winning streak and gave Pirates manager Clint Hurdle his 1,000th career victory.

Joyce drove in two runs while filling in for right fielder Gregory Polanco, who sat out with lower leg discomfort. Jung Ho Kang also homered as the Pirates won for just the third time in 16 games.

Dodgers rookie shortstop Corey Seager had four hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

Neftali Feliz (2-0), the fourth of six Pirates pitchers, retired all five batters he faced and Mark Melancon pitched a scoreless ninth for his 21st save in 22 opportunities.

Nick Tepesch (0-1) gave up five runs and seven hits in just four innings.

    METS 8, BRAVES 6

ATLANTA (AP) - James Loney hit a three-run homer, Travis d'Arnaud drove in three runs and the New York Mets survived Atlanta's six-run fifth inning.

The Mets led 8-0 after Loney's three-run homer in the fifth. Steven Matz almost blew the lead as he allowed six runs on eight hits in the bottom of the inning.

Brandon Snyder hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer and Adonis Garcia had a two-run double in Atlanta's big inning.

Hansel Robles (2-3) threw 2 2/3 perfect innings to stop the Braves' comeback. Jeurys Familia recorded the final four outs for his major league-leading 25th save.

Braves rookie right-hander Aaron Blair (0-5) allowed eight runs and seven hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, leaving his ERA at 7.99.

    CUBS 5, MARLINS 4

MIAMI (AP) - Rookie Willson Contreras homered and drove in three runs to help Chicago snap its season-high four-game losing streak.

Contreras hit a two-run homer in the Cubs' four-run first inning. His RBI single in the seventh put the team with the best record in the majors ahead to stay. He's batting .412 with eight RBIs after seven games in the big leagues.

While Contreras again excelled as a reinforcement for the injury-hampered NL Central leaders, they endured another setback when second baseman Ben Zobrist left the game after he was hit by a pitch on the left ankle.

Four pitchers held the Marlins to two hits, including Justin Bour's grand slam.

Trevor Cahill (1-2) threw a scoreless sixth and Hector Rondon retired all four batters he faced for his second four-out save in a row, and his 13th overall.

Mike Dunn (0-1) retired only one of the five hitters he faced in the seventh.

    ASTROS 13, ROYALS 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - George Springer hit a grand slam and a triple in Houston's nine-run first inning against Edinson Volquez, and the Astros routed Kansas City.

Springer finished with five RBIs, and Colby Rasmus had four hits, including a homer in the eighth, scored three runs and drove in two.

Marwin Gonzalez, Carlos Gomez, Jason Castro and Rasmus all had RBI singles in the first off Volquez (7-7), who retired only three of the 15 batters he faced with 12 scoring, ballooning his ERA more than a full run to 5.15. He gave up eight hits and walked three.

Dallas Keuchel (4-9) picked up only his second victory since April 15.

    BREWERS 5, NATIONALS 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Keon Broxton each hit home runs off Max Scherzer and Milwaukee extended Washington's losing streak to a season-high six games.

Scherzer (8-5) allowed five runs on five hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out 10, throwing 117 pitches.

Jeremy Jeffress hit the first batter in the ninth and then allowed Daniel Murphy's hit with two outs, putting runners at the corners. Wilson Ramos struck out swinging, giving Jeffress his 20th save in 21 chances.

Carlos Torres (1-1) picked up the win with a 1-2-3 sixth.

Nieuwenhuis struck out swinging in the first and third, but then drove a 2-1 pitch from Scherzer well over the wall in right-center for a two-run homer in the sixth.

    • Seattle options Nori Aoki as part of rash of roster moves
      June 24, 2016

SEATTLE (AP) The Seattle Mariners optioned starting outfielder Nori Aoki and relief pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday to clear space for pitching reinforcements.

The Mariners made seven roster moves before starting a homestand against St. Louis. The Mariners also placed right-hander Adrian Sampson on the 15-day disabled list and brought up left-handers Wade LeBlanc and David Rollins and right-hander Donn Roach from Tacoma. Seattle also transferred right-hander Tony Zych to the 60-day DL.

LeBlanc was set to start for Seattle on Friday night. It's his first start in the majors since 2014.

Aoki had started 67 games this season but was hitting just .245. He was demoted from the leadoff spot in the batting order recently and Seattle manager Scott Servais said he wanted Aoki to work on hitting against left-handers while in the minors. Aoki is hitting .177 against lefties this season.

Despite being a veteran, Aoki has not accrued enough service time in the majors to decline the minor league option. Because of that, he was easier for Seattle to send down in an attempt to address pitching concerns.

''We didn't have a lot of ways to go about this and fortunately he did have options left,'' Seattle manager Scott Servais said.

Sampson was placed on the disabled list with a right flexor bundle strain a day after he left Seattle's game in Detroit without throwing an official pitch. Sampson felt discomfort in his right elbow as he warmed up before the bottom of the first inning and was pulled.

Sampson getting pulled early strained Seattle's bullpen and required the moves with Rollins and Roach to add arms. Rollins is making his second stint with Seattle this season, while Roach has been a starter in the minors with Tacoma but is being brought up as a reliever.

              • Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Brewers 6, Nationals 5-- Washington has lost seven games in a row.

-- PGA Tour cancelled the tournament at Greenbrier in West Virginia due to heavy flooding in the West Virginia area. Tourney was scheduled for July 7-10.

-- adidas is pressuring clients Jason Day/Dustin Johnson to confirm for the Rio Olympics; there are worries that most of the big-name guys will be no shows.

-- Indians 6, Tigers 0-- Tribe hasn't lost since Cavaliers won the NBA title.

-- Pete Rose was (finally) inducted into the Reds' Hall of Fame last night.

-- Blue Jays 10, White Sox 8-- Pale Hose became third team ever to hit seven HRs in one game and still lose.

                **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday......

                13) Strength coach for Alabama's football team makes $525,000 a year, more than 19 Division I-A head coaches. Strength coach is an extremely important job-- he is the only coach allowed to coach the players year-round.

                12) John Calipari has coached 22 players who left school for the NBA after one year of college; all 22 were drafted in the first round.

                11) Green Bay Packers turned a $75M profit last year. Thats million, with an M.

                10) You see a number like that, and it irritates me that NFL teams do not suit up an emergency #3 QB every Sunday. Say the starting QB gets hurt on the first play of the game-- then they have to be super cautious with the backup, since there is no one else left to QB if the backup gets hurt. It dimishes the quality of the product.

How much could a #3 QB make? $1M? For an NFL team, thats pocket change.

                9) Of the 32 current NFL head coaches, Adam Gaze/Ben McAdoo are only two who didn't play college football.

                8) Red Sox use several TV analysts, with Jerry Remy the main one, but the best one is Dennis Eckersley is the best one-- he is smart, fair, and speaks his mind.

                7) Dodgers are a weird team; they have a huge payroll, but a shaky pitching rotation and the other night, Yasiel Puig batted 8th-- not your ordinary #8 hitter.

                6) George Springer is the first player since 1900 to hit a grand slam and a triple in the first inning of a major league game.

                5) Mets signed Jose Reyes, but they're set at SS with Asdrubal Cabrera-- will they put him at 2B and have Neil Walker play third?

                4) Nine college hoop teams will be playing exhibition games in the Bahamas in August; UNLV, Wake Forest, Akron, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, FAU, Wyoming and Missouri State. Trips like that are a big help.

                3) Aptly-named 3-point gunner Max Hooper, who played for Oakland last year and took 257 3-pointers LY but no 2-point shots, has signed on with Oklahoma City to play on their summer league team.

                2) Listened to Doug Gottlieb's talk show for a while on Friday, on CBS Sports Network; he is smart and opinionated. ESPN screwed up bigtime letting him get away.

                1) There are guys who make a living in pro sports now as "mental skills coaches", which is a euphemism for "sports psychologist", except you don't need a degree in psychology to be a mental skills coach.

“It’s just about playing in the present. Not worrying about things I can’t control, and focusing on the things I can, obviously." Thats what Ben Simmons had to say about his mental skills coaching. Interesting way to make a living.

                • Let the home plate umpire be your guide when wagering on baseball

When betting on baseball, whether it be the side, run line or total, it is essential to research and evaluate the man tasked with differentiating balls and strikes.

On April 10, 2016 at the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park, southpaw Scott Kazmir of the Los Angeles Dodgers and World Series champion Johnny Cueto of the San Francisco Giants took the mound for their respective clubs in an N.L. West blood feud that featured an over/under of 7.5 runs.

The 32-year-old Kazmir, who had posted an incendiary 2.38 ERA in 18 starts with the Oakland Athletics last summer before being shipped to Houston at the trade deadline, entered his April 10 showdown against Cueto with a 1-0 record thanks to a 3-0 victory in San Diego just five days prior in which the lefty blanked the Padres for six innings while surrendering only one hit.

Cueto, who signed a six-year, $130 million deal with San Francisco last December, also entered that April 10 matchup with a 1-0 record due to a brilliant Orange & Black debut in Milwaukee in which he limited the Brewers to just one run on six hits over seven solid innings of work en route to a 2-1 victory.

So the stage has been set: Two talented and accomplished starting pitchers taking the mound on a Sunday afternoon in a ballpark that allowed fewer home runs than any other venue in baseball last season with a Las Vegas over/under of 7.5. This sort of feels like a game in which we might lean to the under, doesn’t it?

Hopefully all of you passed on that instinct because over bettors were celebrating a win after just three innings of baseball in which Kazmir and Cueto both allowed five runs to cross home plate in what eventually became a wild 9-6 victory for the Giants.

So how exactly did two of the game’s more accomplished starting pitchers find themselves so bruised and battered in the box score so quickly while playing at AT&T Park?

There are several reasons, actually, for what went down on April 10 ranging from Cueto’s potential nerves in his home debut for the Giants to Kazmir’s issues with consistency to two talented and highly productive lineups.

But the one reason that tends to slip between the cracks when trying to explain an anomaly game such as this one has to do with the man in the mask behind home plate.

Yes, I’m talking about the umpire.

When betting on baseball, whether it be the side, run line or total, it is essential to research and evaluate the man tasked with differentiating balls and strikes. On April 10 in San Francisco, that man was Alan Porter, who was behind the plate for 29 games during the 2015 Major League Baseball season. And in those 29 games, the over went 15-11-3 with an average of 8.79 runs scored per contest. But for those of you who are willing to go the extra mile, your research would have indicated that in games featuring an over/under of exactly 7.5 runs during the 2015 season with Porter behind the plate, the over went 6-3.

So far during the 2016 campaign, the over is 9-5 with an average of 9.86 total runs scored per game with Porter behind the plate.

This isn’t to suggest that Porter’s presence on April 10 was the sole reason the over hit in such immediate fashion, but it does help to partially explain why a matchup between Johnny Cueto and Scott Kazmir at AT&T Park could go from being viewed as a pitcher’s duel to a shootout in such a short span of time. More importantly, however, it helps to reinforce the point of how essential it is to study the umpire assignments before placing each and every MLB bet you consider.

Entering Saturday’s slate of action, with the 2016 MLB regular season approximately 46% complete, here’s a breakdown of some key umpire date that will prove useful in your baseball handicapping:

NEW YORK (AP) Starlin Castro drove home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning with a sharp one-hopper scored an error on shortstop Eduardo Escobar, and the New York Yankees edged the Minnesota Twins 2-1 Saturday with more dominant pitching from the back end of their bullpen.

Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller (5-0) and Aroldis Chapman combined to throw three scoreless innings for the third straight game.

They had teamed up to set down 26 consecutive batters during that stretch before Joe Mauer singled on a 99 mph fastball from Chapman with two outs in the ninth.

The left-hander then struck out Brian Dozier, who homered earlier off a very effective Michael Pineda, for his 15th save in 16 tries. The 100 mph fastball that ended it was the only pitch Chapman threw that reached triple digits - after his first 10 on Friday night were all 100 mph or more on the scoreboard.

In the eighth, pinch-runner Aaron Hicks advanced to third on Brian McCann's single off Ryan Pressly (2-4), and Castro singled sharply to the left of Escobar one out later.

BLUE JAYS 10, WHITE SOX 8

CHICAGO (AP) - The White Sox tied a team record with seven home runs, but it wasn't enough as Edwin Encarnacion drove in four runs, Devon Travis homered and Toronto held on for the win.

All seven homers were solo shots. Brett Lawrie became the first White Sox player since Ron Santo in 1974 to hit inside-the-park and over-the-wall homers in the same game, and Chicago hit three straight home runs in the second inning.

Dioner Navarro, J.B. Shuck, Tim Anderson, Alex Avila and Adam Eaton all went deep for the White Sox, who matched the club record for homers set at the Kansas City Athletics on April 23, 1955.

Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (5-8) matched a career high by allowing four home runs. He gave up five runs - four earned - and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Roberto Osuna gave up Eaton's homer in the ninth before earning his 15th save.

Miguel Gonzalez (1-3) gave up eight runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

                              METS 1, BRAVES 0, 11 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) - Pinch-hitter Kelly Johnson lined a leadoff home run in the 11th inning and New York outlasted Atlanta.

Johnson pulled a pitch from Dario Alvarez (1-1) into the first row of the right-field seats for his third homer.

Johnson began the year with the Braves before he was traded to the Mets on June 8. Alvarez was claimed off waivers from the Mets by the Braves in late May.

The homer was the first extra-base hit of a game that began as a terrific duel between Jacob deGrom and Julio Teheran. They each threw eight scoreless innings.

Addison Reed (2-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the Mets, who now trail first-place Washington by two games in the NL East.

Jeurys Familia worked the 11th for his majors-leading 26th save in 26 chances.

                              PADRES 3, REDS 0

CINCINNATI (AP) - Drew Pomeranz drove in a pair of runs and pitched seven innings, leading San Diego in a game delayed a few minutes by the Cincinnati Reds' tribute to Pete Rose.

Pomeranz hit his second career homer and had an RBI single against left-hander Brandon Finnegan (3-6). The Padres have won the first three games of the series, improving to 12-3 against the Reds over the last three seasons.

The Reds inducted Rose into their Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony that included his Big Red Machine teammates and went six minutes long. During a session with the media, Rose joked about taking volunteers for the Reds' beleaguered bullpen, which is by far the worst in the majors.

Pomeranz (7-7) gave up three hits, walked one and struck out six, including the last three batters he faced on a humid, 87-degree afternoon. Fernando Rodney retired the side in the ninth, completing a four-hitter while getting his 17th save in 17 chances.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Matt Wieters hit two homers, and Baltimore rallied from four runs down in the second game to complete a doubleheader sweep and extend Tampa Bay's losing streak to 10 games.

Adam Jones and Chris Davis also homered for the AL East-leading Orioles, who trailed 4-0 in the third inning and 6-3 in the fifth.

Orioles starter Chris Tillman gave up six runs and 10 hits in five innings before Baltimore's comeback kept the right-hander unbeaten in 13 starts since April 14.

Wieters hit a two-run shot in the fourth, Jones connected in the fifth and Davis led off the sixth with his 17th homer to get the Orioles to 6-5. Baltimore took its first lead in the seventh. Jones hit an RBI single off Erasmo Ramirez (7-6) and Davis greeted Xavier Cedeno with a run-scoring single.

Wieters connected again leading off the eighth.

T.J. McFarland (2-2) pitched two scoreless innings, Brad Brach worked the eighth and Zach Britton got three outs for his 23rd save.

The first game of the day-night doubleheader was dominated by Kevin Gausman (1-5), who earned his first win in 13 starts since last September. He allowed four hits in 7 2/3 innings.

Matt Andriese (6-1) gave up two runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings for Tampa Bay. The right-hander was unbeaten in 10 starts since last June 22.

                              INDIANS 6, TIGERS 0

DETROIT (AP) - Francisco Lindor homered twice and Carlos Carrasco pitched a four-hitter to lead Cleveland to its eighth consecutive win.

The Indians also improved to 8-0 against the Tigers this year, outscoring them 51-16.

It was the first career multihomer game for the 22-year-old Lindor, and Carlos Santana and Yan Gomes also went deep for AL Central-leading Cleveland.

The Indians spoiled Anibal Sanchez's return to the Detroit rotation. The right-hander allowed a homer to Santana on the game's second pitch, and Lindor added another solo shot one out later.

Carrasco (3-2) struck out seven and walked one. He threw a season-high 117 pitches in his third career shutout and first of the year.

Sanchez (4-8) made his first start since May 31 after being demoted to the bullpen for a bit. He allowed four runs and five hits in five innings.

                              MARLINS 9, CUBS 6

MIAMI (AP) - Justin Bour and Giancarlo Stanton each drove in three runs, Paul Clemens got his first big league win in more than three years and Miami erased an early deficit to beat Chicago.

Bour hit his 14th home run for the Marlins, who got to 40 wins in 75 games - or 20 games faster than they did a year ago. Ichiro Suzuki's infield single in the fifth sparked what became a four-run inning that put Miami ahead for good.

The Cubs lost for the fifth time in six games.

Clemens (1-0) trailed 4-1 early but settled down and gave Miami five innings of four-run ball. It was his first win since June 12, 2013, and A.J. Ramos got the last two outs for his 24th save.

Addison Russell hit a three-run homer and Miguel Montero added a solo homer for the Cubs.

Chicago starter John Lackey (7-4) gave up a season-high seven runs in 4 1/3 innings.

                              BREWERS 6, NATIONALS 5

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Chris Carter hit a three-run homer, Matt Garza pitched six innings for this first win of the season, and Milwaukee beat Washington.

Carter connected for his 19th homer with two out in the first. Jonathan Villar had three hits for Milwaukee, including an RBI single in the second.

Garza (1-0) gave up four runs and seven hits in his third start of the year. He was sidelined for the first two months of the season by a back injury.

Washington left-hander Gio Gonzalez (3-7) pitched a season-low three innings in his sixth consecutive loss. He was charged with six runs and six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

                              PHILLIES 3, GIANTS 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Cameron Rupp chased Madison Bumgarner with a two-run homer in Philadelphia's three-run seventh inning, helping the Phillies beat San Francisco.

Andres Blanco singled in Tommy Joseph before Rupp connected for his seventh homer. Joseph had two hits for Philadelphia, which had lost 10 of 11.

Bumgarner (8-4) carried a two-hitter into the seventh and then allowed three hits to the first four batters he faced in the frame, including Rupp's shot over wall in center. The left-hander struck out seven and walked one.

Bumgarner allowed more than two earned runs in a game for the first time since giving up four to the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 15, a span of 12 starts.

Jeremy Hellickson (5-6) gave up two runs and five hits in six innings for the Phillies. Jeanmar Gomez pitched the ninth for his 20th save.

DENVER (AP) - Tony Wolters hit his first major league home run and drove in four runs, helping Colorado beat Arizona.

Wolters hit a two-run double in the fourth off Shelby Miller and a two-run homer in the sixth that boosted Colorado's lead to 7-1.

                              PIRATES 6, DODGERS 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Andrew McCutchen homered twice, Jeff Locke took a perfect game into the sixth inning, and Pittsburgh beat Los Angeles for the second straight night.

McCutchen had a solo shot in the fourth inning for the game's first hit and then a three-run shot to start a five-run sixth that increased the Pirates' lead to 6-0.

McCutchen raised his season total to 12 home runs with his 11th career multi-homer game - second this year. The nine-year veteran's batting average had dropped to .239 after going 9 for 49 (.184) with 16 strikeouts in his previous 13 games.

Altuve drove in three runs and scored three runs. He is hitting .417 with a .484 on-base percentage while reaching base in 27 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the major leagues.

Marwin Gonzalez, Altuve and Carlos Correa, the Astros' two-three-four hitters, combined to go 8 for 15 with seven RBIs, six runs and two homers. Altuve and Correa hit consecutive homers in a seven-run second.

Chris Young (2-7) yielded seven runs, seven hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings, raising his ERA to 6.54.

                              RANGERS 10, RED SOX 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Elvis Andrus had a bases-loaded triple and Ian Desmond homered again to lead Texas.

Desmond's 13th homer, his sixth in June, tied the game leading off the fourth. Mitch Moreland had a tiebreaking two-run single later in the inning to put the Rangers ahead to stay.

Andrus cleared the bases with his triple to the wall in left-center that chased knuckleballer Steven Wright (8-5) in the fifth. Andrus scored on a wild pitch by Robbie Ross Jr., capping a five-run inning when all the runs were unearned after two errors and a passed ball.

Cesar Ramos (2-3), the third Texas pitcher, pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The lefty struck out consecutive batters after taking over with runners and second and third, and one out in the sixth.

                              ATHLETICS 7, ANGELS 3

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Coco Crisp hit a two-run single and scored four times, Danny Valencia homered and drove in three runs, and Dillon Overton pitched into the sixth inning to get the win in major league debut as Oakland beat Los Angeles.

Angels slugger Albert Pujols hit his 574th homer to snap a tie with Harmon Killebrew for 11th place on baseball's career list. It was Pujols' second homer in as many nights and No. 14 on the season, but the Angels lost their sixth in a row and fell to a season-worst 13 games under .500 (31-44).

The Angels loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Sean Doolittle retired the next two in order.

Overton (1-0) gave up back-to-back homers by Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout in the first inning. The 24-year-old left-hander was charged with three runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-4) allowed four runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings for Los Angeles.

                              MARINERS 5, CARDINALS 4

SEATTLE (AP) - Dae-Ho Lee drove in two runs and Leonys Martin had three hits to help Nathan Karns get his first win in almost a month as Seattle beat St. Louis.

Karns (6-2) gave up four runs and five hits in five innings for his first victory since May 30, and Steve Cishek got the last three outs for his 17th save of the season.

In the second, a hard ground ball from Cruz got away from third baseman Jhonny Peralta to drive in a run. Seager's grounder was mishandled by Matt Carpenter as another run scored to make it 5-0 lead.

Matt Holliday had an RBI single in the third and Almedys Diaz clubbed a three-run homer in the fifth for the Cardinals.

Hottest team: Giants (9-2 last 11)

San Francisco begins its Bay Bridge Series with area rival Oakland on Monday, but the Giants first have to finish off their series with the Phillies on Sunday. Johnny Cueto goes for his 12th victory on the season when he takes the mound, as the San Francisco right-hander has won eight straight decisions. The Giants have won 12 of their past 14 games but were tripped up by the Phillies last night, 3-2. San Francisco owns a solid 7-1 record in its past eight home series finales, while beating Philadelphia in six of the last seven tries at home.

                                Coldest team:
                                Angels (0-6 last six)

Los Angeles took two of three at Oakland last weekend, but the Angels have gone backwards since that series victory. The Halos were swept at Houston, which included a pair of one-run losses, then dropped the first three games of their home series with the A’s. Hector Santiago continues to have an up-and-down campaign for the Angels, as Los Angeles has gone 5-5 in his last 10 trips to the mound. The Angels are 4-0 in Santiago’s previous four home starts against Oakland since the start of last season, while A’s right-hander is 0-3 in his last three starts against Los Angeles.

                                Hottest pitcher:
Doug Fister, Astros (8-3, 3.21 ERA)

Houston goes for the sweep of Kansas City on Sunday, as Fister is unbeaten in his last 10 starts. The right-hander has delivered five consecutive quality starts, allowing six earned runs in this stretch, which includes road underdog victories against the Angels, Rangers, and Cardinals. Fister lost earlier this season to the Royals at home, giving up six earned runs, the most he has allowed this season. The Astros own a 6-2 record in eight starts away from Minute Maid Park, while tossing at least six innings in each of the past seven road outings.

                                Coldest pitcher
                                : Drew Smyly, Rays (2-7, 4.78 ERA)

Tampa Bay has been one of the coldest teams in baseball recently, while Smyly is winless in his past six trips to the mound. The Rays’ southpaw has allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last five starts, while the ‘over’ has hit four times in this span. Smyly beat the Orioles twice last season, but hasn’t faced them yet this season. Baltimore has won three straight home games against left-handed starting pitchers, while the Orioles have won 12 of their past 15 games overall at Camden Yards.

Biggest UNDER run: Mariners (6-2 last eight)

Seattle’s offense has hit the skids recently, scoring four runs or less in six of the past seven games. The Mariners posted one run through eight innings in Friday’s contest against the Cardinals, but Adam Lind’s three-run walk-off blast provided Seattle a 4-3 victory even though the game finished ‘under’ the total of 8. The M’s are 5-3 to the ‘under’ in the previous eight contests at Safeco Field, while two of James Paxton’s past three starts overall have finished ‘under’ the total as he takes the mound in Sunday’s finale against St. Louis.

                                Biggest OVER run:
                                Rockies (5-0 last five)

Colorado has played three high-scoring games with Arizona at Coors Field, capped off by an 11-6 victory on Saturday. The two NL West rivals have combined for 13, 19, and 17 runs in this series, while five of the six meetings at Coors Field this season have finished ‘over’ the total. The Rockies are 3-1 to the ‘over’ in the last four home starts made by Chad Bettis, while two of his three starts made against Arizona this season have gone ‘over’ the total.

Matchup to watch: Dodgers vs. Pirates

Pittsburgh put together a series to forget against San Francisco earlier this week, losing three of four games. However, the Pirates have bounced back against the Dodgers by winning each of the first two matchups at PNC Park to creep within three games of the .500 mark. Beating the Dodgers for a third straight time won’t be easy as the Pirates have to get through Cy Young favorite Clayton Kershaw on Sunday night. Kershaw is unbeaten in his last 10 trips to the mound, while the Dodgers own a perfect 7-0 record in his seven starts away from Los Angeles. However, Kershaw was winless in a pair of starts against the Pirates last season.

Betcha didn’t know: The Cubs look to avoid their second straight series defeat after dropping two of the first three meetings with the Marlins. Jose Fernandez had his six-game home winning streak snapped in a no-decision against the Braves his last time out, an extra innings loss as a -265 favorite. The Marlins are 27-3 in Fernandez’s past 30 starts at Marlins Park since June 2013, but the right-hander is facing the Cubs for the first time in his career.

                                Biggest public favorite:
                                Giants (-250) vs. Phillies

Biggest public underdog: Royals (+115) vs. Astros

                                Biggest line move
                                : Twins (+200 to +190) at Yankees
