I still think if possibility of a sports service to sue anyone successfully, had any merits, it would have happened by now.
Savage I know you're not a Lawyer. All i'm saying is someone show me the Root Case ruling.

A opinion of whos gonna win a game is not copyrighted material, like an article would be. Like others have said if this could have been done it would have been done along time ago to 100's of sites on the web who post plays. Also on top of that what about all the consensus services who are actually taking the plays and re-selling them for money, the services would want to sue those people first and put them out of business.
This in my opinion is a pure case of somebody here probably being offered some money to not let service plays be posted here, cause it certainly cant be about being sued by a bunch of hustlers who give out plays for money. If anybody didnt want to open up their books to the court system, it would most certainly be the services who would be afraid to show what they do, not a website owner.
So guys put 2 and 2 together and you will figure out the real reason theres going to be no more service plays.
Its all about the dead presidents
You're so full of shit it isn't even funny. You have no clue about the Legal system at all. I could sue you if I wanted to for posting that post if I wanted too. Doesn't mean that I would win. So wake up and smell the coffee

          • Monte-I don't have it and don't have a clue how to find it(I am not a lawyer lol). I just he lost;surely there must be a lawyer who reads these threads or a someone who knows a lawyer who would know how to lookup the Root case or other cases of this nature in the Law Library.

Personally I don't think the courts want any part of this;there are more important things in the world for the courts to worry about then sports picks and whether it is ok for someone to give them out or not.

If someone sued sucesfully it would not warrant that gambling is legal! The argument in Court would be about Copyright. Of course gambling would come up, but that's really not the issue. Now on the other hand you would have to worry that the Court or Reporters get wind of the story the the States Attorney General gets involved.

The other stuff you mention would have to be proved through discovery and when dealing with offshore places that will be hard. Like I said people in California sued I believe the Credit Card companies for allowing them to lose money at online Casinos. I don't know what happened on the end of that case, but I suspect the debts were written off and the Lawyers for both sides walked away with the cash in hand.

              • Vectren,
Put the drugs down and get a clue, the services would not stand a chance on this issue.
They cannot copyright a opinion and thats a fact. Only thing they could copyright is if they had some big article they wrote, which was being copied. So stop the bull and trying to scare people, because what you say is total bull.

Yes they can go after the consensus too, but that is irrelevant to my point. None of that changes the fact that what BC is doing is not going to hold up in court.

I agree with all of your reasoning for closing the thread. I am certain that participation will now increase in all of the other threads here. Most likely all the people who continuosly hit the refresh button will now start particpating in the other threads.
Fades will continue and your site will prosper. It was fun while it lasted. I don't think anyone will suffer from this. There are many successful cappers here.
I'm sure I have a good feeling for who you are by the way you're talking.

What you're missing from my point is if the consensus sites get shut down there is no more plays to be posted since 99% of the shit comes from there. Do you not get that??

If thats the case in what you say, then Monte should have just came out and said that, instead of using some bull that hes gonna get sued for letting people post somebodys opinion of whose gonna win a game, which no court in our country would side with.

Sitting here thinking about this even more makes me laugh harder to believe some bozo like wayne root could sue you for telling others what team he likes to win a game, is pure comical and its clear alot of you have no clue about how strong free speech is in our country. Just remember when you say something like "i heard wayne root likes the yankees tonight, your not passing on copyrighted material, like if he were to write up a big article about it, which would indeed have to be registered as copyrighted material, all your basically doing is passing on hearsay gossip, which isnt copyrighted. The courts would laugh this case out of the system so fast. This would mean everytime somebody has a opinion about something in this country, it automatically becomes copyrighted material and they could sue another person for talking about it, lmfaooooooooooooooo.
Wake up people, you live in america not china.
Well at least the internet is good for a good laugh once in awhile and thats what this subject has done for me.
