Today's Report(so far):
Well last night I called the lady on her cell phone described in the last post, and to say the least,:it was kind of difficult and frustrating but overall productive.
The problems I encountered were not expected though.
The biggest problem I had was understanding her;it is one thing to exchange written emails with the lady when I can take my time and translate every word slowly and even have the whole message translated for free on a free translation site if I want to no even have to think.
Speaking to someone on the phone does not allow me that luxury, and it is much more awkward, as I had to continually tell the lady to repeat what she said in Spanish, and I had to think fast in order to try to speak back to her whether it was grammatically correct or not.
She stated that she would try to get someone to translate if I should want to call her before I leave for my trip.
She seems very nice, single, no kids, lives at home with her parents and some nephews and nieces.
I think when I meet her in Cartagena(we both understood and agreed upon that),I think it will be easier in a face to face meeting;it is more relaxed, I will have my pocket translator, and of course hand signals, body language and even writing phrases will help, all of which cannot be done on the phone.
It didn't help either that we got disconnected several times last night.
In any event she is at least one "candidate" for the time being.
At the Social Events provided by the Tour Company, there will be plenty of professional translators available, and that will surely help at least initially.
The best part is IF I should find a lady with whom I am compatible, she can attend English classes(at my expense) for the 4-6 months it takes to get her over to this country;that will help a lot also.
Summing everything up, it was nice to speak to at least one lady who seems sincere anyways.
Oh yes,one thing I asked her last night was about children, and she said that she would like to have one;I told her because of my age, I wasn't sure.
I could surely afford to have another child besides my 10 year old daughter;I think having another child is more a fear than anything else;I mean for one thing it would be embarrassing for everyone who would see me and the child together to think I was the grandpa. There is a lot more to it, and I still would rather find someone without small children and who doesn't want to have any more.
I realize that many of you couldn't give a rat's ass about my own personal experiences, but the fact that there have been quite a few hits on this thread indicates to me that there is at least some interest in this venture of mine.
Ps I just found two more emails from ladies in the Philippines.
Sometimes I think I should have concentrated there once again, as my first was from there, is a wonderful person as are her friends, and ALL of the ladies speak English.
To tell you the truth, probably the main reason I didn't choose to go back there was that I hated the 12 or 13 hour time difference;it screwed up my body for a long time during the times I travelled to the Philippines years ago, and it would be only worse this time as I am older.
I would strongly advise that if anyof you younger guys are looking for ladies, start with the Philippines;that is your best bet especially if you have the time and resources to do it.
If you use an agency, that is even better, because that will weed out many of the frauds.
