I am not having fun at your expense, but this happens every day in college sports. I do actually believe the rules are not fair towards the players transferring, but the coaches are the reason they choose a school. I know your feelings are from the heart, but Coach C did not know he was going to KY when he started recruiting these kids. I know it sucks for Memphis, but look on the bright side, Coach C put them in a position to get another good coach to continue the tradition!!

This guy will raise his skirt to the highest bidder everytime.
Yes because he is a careless asshole. That's my stance, but according to everyone else I am wrong. Calipari is a great guy and deserves nothing but the best.
Absolutely not because as stated several times in this thread, the kids are playing for the coach, not the school. You seem like you do not want to accept that reality. Most probably assumed the kids would follow the minute they heard the story. It isn't surprising at all.
You guys can shoot this shit at me all you want. I'm looking at it this way:
Calipari is stealing kids that Memphis paid for. You want to tell me I'm wrong? Fine. You want to act as if "it's all up to the kids" That's fine as well. My stance on this, is that Calipari is an asshole who has used University funds, solely for his own advancement. It gets tiring arguing the same point in circles when I'm on my own.
As a Memphis fan, Calipari has completely screwed our team over. Yesterday, 3 of the top 5 in the nation were in our pocket, and today BECAUSE CALIPARI IS LEAVING, these kids are too. So sue me for blaming Calipari......
You guys want me to see your point about this that and the other thing. And I accept those things, that's all fine, but I don't think that one of you, not one, sees my point about how one man has taken one team and completely did a 180 on it in ONE DAY.
Maybe the NCAA should put a stop to the BS of a coach going to another school and taking kids that already have signed letters of intent with them by penalizing the school. Take away scholarships for the amount of kids he recruited at the other school for 4 years.
99.9% of the time kids make their choice on the coach and the staff, not the school! Other schools paid to recruit these kids too, but they were going to Memphis because of Cal. Not surprising at all to see these guys follow the coach! It's the way of the business. What's F'up is the coaches can take another job without sitting out a year and the players cannot! Doesn't have to be fair but it is what it is!
I think you hit on something here Tn
If coaches want to leave before their contract is up with the college, then they should have to sit out a year.
Mavs, what about the 40 other schools that recruited these kids? So when Memphis got their verbal commitments did they compensate the schools that lost out? What about the 500 other HS basketball players that Memphis recruited that they didn't get? When you spend money on a kid and don't get them does the other school that got them reimburse the school that did?
This is as crazy an argument as yours.
They have the RIGHT per the NCAA guidelines. They may and they may not. I, like you, assume they will. They signed because they thought he would be there. He is not. Their choice.
Don't you think its weird that there is ALREADY talk of these kids moving to UK if Calipari signs.

Bill, I understand exactly what you are saying. My point is that Calipari knows exactly what he is doing. And there is a difference between your point and mine. Memphis did things right and got these kids fair and square. UK is now getting these kids without spending a dime, and simply getting them because Calipari is coming. How is that fair to Memphis?
Say for some reason Pitino now comes to Memphis, does Memphis get all his recruits? And now L'Ville gets Capel (sp.) do they get his recruits? Pretty sure this shit doesn't really continue in a never ending circle. I'm seeing it this way, you can call me wrong or an idiot or what have you:
Memphis paid and worked to get kids (TOP NOTCH nation's best kids) and now, UK is getting them absolutely free of charge, simply because. While, Memphis is hung out to dry.
These kids are not stupid. They will follow where they think the best situation is for "THEM" , they don't care about Memphis! It is the nature of the business. I used to coach college basketball and recruiting can get very ugly! Coach Dean Smith said when he retired, he got tired of getting in the gutter every recruiting season. Trust me on this one, It Is A Business! It is not about right or wrong!
It is also a kids choice at any time to transfer. Maybe that is easier to understand. Calipari doesn't sign their paperwork to change schools, they do, and it is their right. Kids transfer every year and again, it is part of the "Business" of CBB. How you exclude the kids and THEIR CHOICE, that's what really baffles me. You're angry, i get it, but you are blaming the wrong person.
Yes, the kids have the right to move from one college to another. I will agree with that. I'm not excluding that, the fact is that Calipari plans to take these kids. This is not a situation where " the kids will come if they feel like it." Don't you think its weird that there is ALREADY talk of these kids moving to UK if Calipari signs. Before he even signs the kids are planning on going over there. Calipari is not telling these kids "come if you want", he is telling them...... "Come with me."
The kids are going with Cali to UK, and yes it is partly their choice, but Calipari isn't exactly leaving this all up to them.
My point is, Calipari plans to take these kids right out from under Memphis. Their choice? yes. Calipari still a bad dude, and still persuading them to switch? Yes.
