kb, I have a high speed connection and i have never had a problem with speed though until this incident today. We have a laptop that is about 1.5 years old and that has run fast and virus free since day 1. We have been saying we need a new home computer but we were just holding out until we "Really" needed one. I guess i could go to Dell and order one. I just hate having to save everything from this one!

Is it easy to add RAM?
Could a dummy like me do it?

No, it's not quite the same thing. You could download AVG version 8.0 and would do the same thing while freeing up system resources, but there may be other factors slowing it down.
It's pretty easy to add RAM if you have an open slot. I imagine that thing will be pretty dusty if you're opening it up for the first time in 4.5 years.
