--can i use a credit card to deposit money? Money from my checking acct? No, No
--Are you guys saying if I pull winnings out of an offshore acct and ask for a check I wont be able to deposit it in a checking or savings acct at my back let alone cash it????Not if its from a sportsbook. You would have to use a cash checking place that charges a fee or the sportsbooks will open up 3rd party companies or deal with 3rd party companies so its not from a sportsbook
--what happened to all this being legal because the companies are "offshore" ??? I wouldn't be suprised if those companies take the USA to the UN Nations Committe and sue them like Antigua already did and won.
--any sportsbooks out there that are safe to use after this law is put in effect?? Yes
sorry for all the dumb questions--im just not all that in tune with this b.s.

As for the reason this bill passed, virtually no one has lobbied their representatives and senators against it because not many people like to publicly claim they are gambling because of the obvious tax consequences. These guys in Washington have no idea that they have alienated people because no one has told them.
The big winners? All the locals are having a giant party.
My own belief is that, in the end, web gambling is here to stay but will be very risky.

[QUOTE=griswold]BC is right.
The Republicans were behind this. Frist singlehandledly used his savvy to get this attached to the ports bill.
And I'm a Republican. But I'm hardly going to change my votes because of a gambling issue. Protecting the world from terrorism, lowering taxes and not feeding the welfare state are still more importnat issues to me. [QUOTE]
Terroism? By continuing our prescense in Iraq we are bringing more anger towards us which is going to lead to more of it. Scaring people is the way for the Republicans to try and control the Government IMO. Lowering taxes? I've only seen that for the top 10% of this Country. And Bush cutting medicare for people with cancer so they cannot afford their medication. Sitting on their asses and doing nothing about New Orleans.
With all of this Terroism you would think they have better things to do than pull BS by putting a bill that they have never been able to pass onto a port bill which they know will pass. That's called cowards. Now I do know both parties do it and it shouldn't be allowed at all. Voting on bills should only pertain to the bill in hand and only have anything attached to it that pertains to the bill directly. Also voting should be done during regular business hours instead of bs fast call meetings that both parties do.
Democrats wanted to pass a bill that would insure all 45+ million people that don't have insurance and can't afford it, but couldn't get it through. Why republicans. Yet the richest Country in the world cannot keep up with Canada who insures everybody for less than $100 a month. And now I hear in the UK everybody is insured by the Government.
Point being is that the Republicans IMO are more for the rich of this Country and more selfish than the Democrats.

Excellant post Monte....I agree 100 % !!!!!!!!
"Not feeding the welfare state?"
It's amazing that people in this country are willing to spend billions and billions of dollars protecting the welfare of countries thousands of miles away, with money and the lives of our soldiers. Yet we aren't willing to spend a small percentage of that same money for the welfare of our own population.....That's sad

Not only do we have problems in the health care industry, but we have problems with social security, katrina victims, veterans that have been poisoned including the gulf war and the current war. Homeless people living on the streets with some of those being Vietnam vets! So let's print more money up and help out other Countries by getting our troops killed so parents, family and friends can lose their loved ones over something that we should have been out of a long time ago. An according to the UN Nations we weren't suposed to be in at all. Tony Blair has taken all kinds of heat over his relationship with Bush and is quiting before his time was up.

Straight from the article above...
"If Congress had not acted, gamblers would soon be able to place bets not just from home computers, but from their cell phones while they drive home from work or their Blackberries as they wait in line at the movies," Leach said.
Seriously... Come on.
Leach cited research which showed that young people who tend to spend hours of leisure time on the Internet, are particularly vulnerable.
"vulnerable" - like this is some sort of disease...
Republicans tucked the measure into a bill aimed at enhancing port security, which passed early Saturday.Last edited by CMDawg; 10-02-2006, 12:05 PM.Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.
