  • Well our Government really F*CKED us this time..Online Gambling Bill to pass tonight

Republican Leaders Reach Port Security Conference Deal ...

A major maritime security bill will head to the House floor
tonight with a last-minute provision that would crack down on
the $12 billion online gambling industry
    but without other
controversial additions, such as court security measures and
protections for phone companies that cooperate with government
wiretapping, House Homeland Security Chairman King told
CongressDaily today. King said the text of the conference report
is done and will be brought to the House floor tonight for a
vote. House and Senate Republican leaders were trying earlier
today to attach last-minute measures to the bill. The only one
that survived was from Senate Majority Leader Frist that would
crack down on Internet gambling, King said.

A last second victory for Frist will ban online gambling for good. This will put the banks in charge of stopping payments to sportsbooks, and theoretically places like Neteller as well.

These fuckers! They keep sticking their noses into our affairs.

What else does a Republican congress have to do? They sure as hell aren't trying to solve health care, unemployment or the Iraqi war effort.....

Funny how the Government can attach other bills that have nothing to do with another to get it too pass.

        Are you sure about this?

You guys are right but no democrats ever step up to defend our rights either. The House passed their version of the bill by a landslide.

Now the Senate does an end run by attaching this bullshit to a bill they know will pass 100-0 so that nobody could dare vote against it. I mean, who would dare vote against Port Security?

          What a bunch of bullshit.

You are right on Monte, and this is the kind of thing that shows that your vote really does mean absolutely nothing when it comes to federal laws.

And yeah, I'm sure that's what is being reported. Congress Daily PM is reporting the Internet Gaming language is in.

That's why it shouldn't be allowed, but goes on all the time by both sides which is BS.

Are you sure about this though? I was hearing that it wouldn't be voted on until next year.

Just saw Bill Frist on C-Span. The Port Security Bill will be voted on late tonight as the last piece of legislation before adjournment. It will be a voice vote and not a roll call, which in my understanding means there will be no debate and there is not expected to be any opposition. This is a done deal.

I doubt if most of the Senators voting on this even know there is anti-gaming wording in the legislation.

Right now Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is working to attach the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act to a Port Defense Bill that will be voted on sometime this evening.

“There’s a high degree of concern on our behalf that Senator Frist is going to be able to push this through,” said Michael Bolcerek, president of the Poker Players Alliance. “We’re outraged. This is political gamesmanship.”

Later tonight, the rules committee will decide if the Prohibition Act will be added to a bill dealing with port defense. It won’t be added if it’s deemed too controversial, something the PPA believe is the case.

If the rules committee doesn’t think it’s too controversial, it will be added and the Port Security Bill will be voted on sometime around midnight. It will be the last vote of the evening.
