Mike you won't think this is funny but people kept yelling at me to go back to fucken Boston and my reply was "I will and you should come visit as well, we have 3 nice Superbowl Trophies you can view too while you're there"! OMG, They didn't think that was very funny.

I remember Dwight Evans was also regarded highly for his charity work and giving something back to the community.
I remember though may years ago while watching Sox play Texas at Pompano Beach in Florida, Dwight just walked very quickly right by a bunch of autograph seekers, which surprised me.
That being said and seeing it happen only on that one day, I didn't change my overall perception of him.
Back in 1978 I was at an Atlanta/ Red Sox game and there was a ton of people including myself huddled around Yaz.
I told him where I was from,we talked for a minute and he autographed a ball for me.
He then went on and very patiently signed for everyone else;I will never forget that.
Savage i'm sorry but i TOTALLY DISAGREE! When someone comes up to you and says they drove all the way from R.I. and their face is lit up like a christmas tree you DON'T treat them like shit. Like it or not, those are the fans that make the Sox the beloved team they are and keep them in business. Also, if your having a bad day or not in a good mood than don't go walk around in the m-all. It's that simple!

savage, Go watch Damon for a series and get there early. He LOVES the attention and he LOVES the fans. He is someone others should learn from. If Wakefield doesn't like or want the attention he should have thought of that before becoming a professional athlete!

Just remember Wayne that athletes are people first like you and me.
I am sure you have had bad days and said something harsh to your wife, girlfriend, associate, etc. and later regretted it.
I am not defending Wakefield, I don' think it is fair to make a sweeping generalization unless you saw how this guy acted in similar situations over a period of time.
Damon may be exemplary, but you can't expect everyone to be like him.
Now someone like Albert Belle-he is an asshole by anyone's standards and probably Barry Bonds is in that category also.
I think you have to consider the whole person, and I have seen enough of Tim Wakefield during his stay in baseball and heard him humbly speak enough times, do what he is asked to do without the bitching of others, seen his charity work, etc. to conclude that he is far from an asshole.
Sorry- we will have to disagree on this one!

savage you are too easy on these guys and their million dollar cry baby attitudes. Like i said and you have not responded to as of yet. If you're having a bad day and you are a "Professional" athlete than don't go take a walk in a m-all. The Sox Won the Series for the 1st time in 86 years, what does he expect? The players, well most of them are living in the moment this season and this should be a year in which they expect this.

I have said things to the girlfriend and such that i probably shouldn't have but i have not done that shit to strangers in a m-all who loved me and wanted an autograph. People would kill to be in their shoes and 90% of them know and appreciate it.

He was an ASSHOLE and it was to more than one person so i don't need you to accept or like it but i was there and it's a fact. Unlike yourself i don't give him multiple free passes to be an ass. He lives a better life than all of us and just because he's famous it doesn't mean you treat people like shit, period!

I'm ashamed you can blow it off as a bad day and accept it almost as much as him doing it (several times)!

I agree wayne these guys get paid way to much money to be assholes to people. I know they are people just like us but they are overpaid and they have people that look up to them. The least they can do is sign an autograph or say hi.

Wayne-I would have to have seen what he did over a period of time under the exact circumstances, and how many people he signed for as opposed to how many he did not in order to make a judgment.
If I am too accepting of him, then perhaps you haven't considered all thee good and wonderful things he has done for sick children and charity, and have almost inferred that this is not big deal.
I still say that the word asshole is much too strong a word for what he did or did not do on a given day especially when you compare that to others I mentioned like Albert Belle or Barry Bonds.
Again, I respect your opinion, but based on what I have seen and heard about him, i like the guy, his attitude toward the game, his teammates and what he has done for less fortunate people who reside in or near the city of Boston.

money has zero to do with it. Its difficult to be happy and willing to sign autographs 24/7 365 i'm not saying either of u is right or wrong. In reality we dont know any of these guys personally what-so-ever. So who's really to say their right either way?

So if you're not sick you don't get respect from him? Is that how it works? I talked to alot of people out there and not one that saw him got a look, autograph, or respect from him. I guess it was just a bad week for him and if some charity work is all it takes than you better think again about Bonds and Belle because they have done some in the past as well. Do you suddenly like them now or is it because they don't play for the Sox that you're not willing to accept their good?

Nobody has yet to address the fact that if you are not having a good day than why would you take a joy walk in the m-all? It makes zero sense and if he needed something they have plenty of people that would get it for him.

What you guys don't realize is in the m-all there were very few Sox fans around. Most didn't know they were there and when i talked to Nixon and Clement WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT WENT UP TO THEM WHILE WE WERE THERE. The lady said when she was near Wakefield it was her and about 3 others. What does that take to sign, about 30 seconds?
