UPSET/NIGHT: It was just a few nights ago that the 155 underdog Reds came through for me as a Best Bet. Cincinnati has now WON 2 in a row after dropping 11 of their prior 12 outings. One of the main reasons for their resurgence has to do with the return of Ken Griffey from yet another long DL stint. Not only will Griffey be in the starting lineup tonight, so will the oft-injured SS Barry Larkin. The big news regarding the Cincinnati offense is Sean Casey, who for most of the season has been leading the majors in batting average. Following a short slump, Casey apparently has found his hitting stroke once again. In the past 4 outings, Casey is batting .500 with 5 RBI's. Regular clients know that I love to go with underdog pitchers that have the ability to keep their team in the game until the late innings. In his last start for Cincinnati, Brandon Claussen allowed only ONE earned run and THREE hits! He will be going against Shawn Estes who posted an ugly ERA of SIX for the Rockies last month. Colorado had better find a way to support Estes at the plate, which may NOT happen. One of the power hitters on the squad, Jeremy Burnitz, is mired in an 0-for-11 slump where he has struck out 4 different times. Do not ask me why, but Colorado is a horrible 2-10 at home versus teams from the NL Central. Even more, my database tells me that Shawn Estes is only 1-9 when pitching in the month of August
