The Mariners are used to getting off to strong starts (35-18 in April previous 3 seasons) and playing very well at home in Safeco Field, but here they are already looking to avoid a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Angels to open the season. Anaheim looks very strong on paper this season including the addition of budding superstar RF V.Guerrero, and they have pounded the M's 10-5 and 10-7 in the opening 2 games of the season getting out to big 10-1 and 8-0 leads in those contests. Freddy Garcia has been Seattle's #1 starter to open the past few seasons but is #3 to start this campaign after an enigma of a year in '03 where he was wildly inconsistent. We do think Garcia has a big chance at getting back to strong form for all of this season, and the right-hander also has 10-2 / 2.37 ERA lifetime stats vs. Anaheim including 3-0 / 1.17 ERA numbers last year. Fellow right-hander Escobar gets the nod for the Angels here after going a solid 8-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 12 road starts for Toronto last season. But Escobar also has a 5.30 ERA in 6 lifetime starts vs. the M's, and we think Seattle will be very focused on avoiding a sweep in this 1:35pm PT first pitch. The Mariners have been bet down since opening at -1.35 on the overnights, but we like a strong 4* selection on Seattle and Garcia laying the -1.25 odds in this spot.

Thursday NBA Basketball:
Minnesota+5 over SACRAMENTO:

This big game at Arco Arena tonight could easily decide the #1 seed in the Western Conference as the T-Wolves come in trailing the Kings by a half game, while the Spurs and Lakers are also both only 1 1/2 games in back of Sacramento as well. Minnesota has the best road record in the West on the season at 24-14 SU (23-15 ATS) and is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings with the Kings, and we do believe it will be highway robbery if consummate PF Kevin Garnett (24.2 ppg., 13.9 rpg., and 5.1 apg.) is not named the league MVP this season. Minnesota has also had their breakout season with 3 main rotation players (Szczerbiak, T.Hudson, and Olowakandi) missing a combined 142 games, and the T-Wolves are 9-6 ATS as an underdog on the year. Sacramento's chemistry has been shaky since the return of star PF C.Webber in early March, and the Kings are on current 3-5 SU and 2-8-1 ATS slides. The Kings' poor 45.5% FG defense on the season ranks 25th in the NBA after Sacramento led the league in that category last season, while Minnesota's 41.5% FG defense ranks 4th in the NBA with the T-Wolves holding their opponents to only 81.5 ppg. in their last 5 outings. Key 6th man combo G B.Jackson is questionable to return for the Kings tonight after a 24-game absence (ab strain), and Sacramento is 0-2 ATS on the season when installed as between a 3 1/2 and 6 point home favorite. We like Minnesota and the points for 3-units in this 7:05pm PT tipoff.
