Top 25 Notes

-- Texas A&M was a surprise addition in the first College Football Playoff rankings, but they were unable to overcome an injury to starting QB Trevor Knight, losing at Mississippi State 35-28. It was just the second win in the past five games for the Bulldogs, and their second cover in the past six outings. The 'over' has hit in the past three for MSU. As far as A&M is concerned, they ave failed to cover in five straight outings. ... North Carolina posted their third straight win and cover, topping Georgia Tech 48-20. The 'over' result was the first in five games for the Tar Heels. ... Michigan posted a 59-3 win against Maryland for just their second cover in the past five games. The Wolverines defense has been the key to their success, allowing 10 or fewer points in five of their past six outings.

-- Western Michigan won again in mid-week MACtion, topping Ball State 52-20. The Broncos improved to 9-0, and the 'over' has hit in three of their past four games. The Broncos have really been a friend to bettors when they're on the road, as the Broncos are 5-0 SU/ATS in five games away from Kalamazoo. They'll be back on the road Tuesday at Kent State, a team 1-3 SU/2-2 ATS in four games at home.

-- Louisville posted a 52-7 road win at Boston College, as Heisman Trophy favorite QB Lamar Jackson accounted for seven touchdowns against a solid defense. The Cardinals are back on track after a bump in the road earlier last month, averaging 46.0 points per game (PPG) over the past three outings while going 2-1 ATS.

-- Washington State routed visiting Arizona by a 69-7 score, as the Cougars keep pace with Washington in the Pac-12 North Division. It was the first cover in four games for the Cougs. Their offense is certainly on pace, however, as they have scored at least 27 points in each of their nine games.The 'over' is 3-0 in the past three, and 5-1 over the past six games for the Cougs.

Big Five Conference Report (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)

-- Duke was unable to upset visiting Virginia Tech, but they covered a 12 1/2-point spread in their 24-21 setback. The Blue Devils have dropped three straight, but they have covered four in a row, and five of their past six. ... Wake Forest is bowl eligible following their 27-20 win against Virginia, covering their third game in the past four outings. It was their first 'over' result since Oct. 1. ... Speaking of Oct. 1, that's the last time Miami-Florida tasted victory. That is, until Saturday, when they pushed aside Pittsburgh 51-28. The Canes opened the season 4-0 SU/ATS, went 0-4 SU/ATS over their past four and then won and cover in this one. Is this the start of a new win and cover streak for 'The U'.

-- Ohio State finally figured things on the offensive end, and just in time, too. They sent a message to the rest of college football with a 62-3 win over No. 10 Nebraska to snap an 0-4 ATS slide. Next up is a trip to Maryland, a team which was beaten up in the Big House Saturday. The Terrapins are 1-4 SU/ATS ove rtheir past five outings, although the Terps are 3-1 SU/2-2 ATS in four games at home. ... Michigan State fell at Illinois, as they just cannot get on track. Sparty started out 2-0 SU/1-1 ATS in their first two games, but they have dropped seven in a row and they're 1-6 ATS during the span.

-- Texas kept up their mastery against Texas Tech, posting a 45-37 win in Lubbock. The Longhorns entered the game just 2-7 ATS in their past nine road outings, but they've covered two of the past three away from home. The Longhorns are getting attention at the betting window, going 4-1 ATS over the past five while the 'under' has hit in four in a row. ... Oklahoma State posted a 43-37 road win against Kansas State, winning for the fifth straight game while covering for the fourth time in five outings. The 'over' is 4-1 during the span for the Cowboys, who host the Red Raiders next Saturday.

-- Colorado won 20-10 against UCLA Thursday night, but it was the first time in nine games this season that the Buffaloes failed to cover. The Buffs kept one streak going, as the 'under' has cashed in five in a row for Colorado. ... Oregon State dropped their fourth straight at Stanford, 26-15. However, the Beavers were able to cover their fifth straight. They'll head to UCLA next Saturday night. ... Southern California pounded Oregon 45-20, winning for the fifth consecutive time while covering four of the past five. The 'under' is also a perfect 5-0 for USC over the past five.

-- The 'under' hit in the Missouri-South Carolina game (see bad beats) below. The under is now 2-0 in the past two game the Gamecocks, and 7-2 in nine games overall. ... Vanderbilt gave Auburn a scare in a 23-16 setback on the Plains. The Commodores have covered three of their past four games away from home. For the Tigers, they failed to cover for the first time in six games, but they're still 7-2 ATS in nine games overall. ... It wasn't pretty, but Alabama picked up a 10-0 road win at Louisiana State. The Crimson Tide have covered four in a row, including each of their past three on the road.

Mid-Major Report

-- Temple posted a 21-0 win at Connecticut, winning for the sixth time in the past seven games. The Owls have covered nine straight games. They have a bye before traveling to Tulane Nov. 19. ... Tulsa rolled to a 45-24 win against East Carolina, as the Golden Hurricane offense continues hitting on all cylinders. They have scored 43 or more points in seven of their nine games, and they have coveredd four in a row. This game hit the 'under', however, the first for Tulsa since Sept. 10, a span of seven games.

-- Florida Atlantic won the 'Battle of the Owls' in Houston, dropping Rice 42-25 while setting a program mark with 657 total yards. The Owls picked up their first Conference USA win in five tries, covering for the second time in three games. ... Western Kentucky rolled to a 49-21 win over Florida International, although they failed to cover. The 'over' is 4-1 in the past five for the Hilltoppers. For FIU, the 'over' is 3-0 in the past three, and 6-1 in the past seven. ... Old Dominion stayed hot aginst the number, improving to 5-1 SU/ATS over the past six outings. They thumped Marshall by a 38-14 score, as the Thundering Herd slipped to 1-7 SU over the past eight games, and 2-5-1 ATS during the stretch. The 'under' is 5-0 in the past five for Marshall.

-- Ohio University continues to roll, posting a 34-10 win over Buffalo Thursday night. The Bobcats have won and covered three in a row, and total bettors love them, too. The 'under' is 8-0-1 in the past nine games for Ohio heading into their next game at Central Michigan Nov. 15. ... Miami-Ohio picked up an impressive 37-17 win over CMU, winning and covering for the fourth straight game after an 0-6 SU/3-3 ATS start.

-- Wyoming continues to roll, posting an impressive 52-28 win against Utah State. The Cowboys have won and coveed five straight games dating back to their setback Sept. 23 at Eastern Michigan. The 'over' is 4-1 in the past five for Wyoming, too. ... Colorado State stayed hot against the number, blasting Fresno State 37-0. The Rams have covered four in a row, and seven of the past eight heading into their rivalry game at Air Force next week. ... USAFA picked up a much-needed 31-12 win at Army, snapping a four-game non-cover skid.

-- Idaho hit the road and picked up a 23-13 win at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Vandals need just one win in their final three games to become bowl eligible. They have won three of their past four games, and the Vandals have covered four in a row, and five of the past six. ... After starting the season 0-4 SU/ATS, Arkansas State picked up a fourth straight win and cover with a 31-16 victory at Georgia State.

Bad Beats

-- Missouri-South Carolina appeared to be headed for an easy 'over' (56.5) result, as the sides combined for 49 points through three quarters. However, there were just three points in the final quarter by South Carolina, as the 'under' came through.

-- It wasn't your classic bad beat, but Massachusetts scored with 4:17 to go for the backdoor cover, crushing Troy bettors laying the 23. The Trojans won 52-31, but the Minutemen grabbed the cover.

-- If you were a North Carolina State moneyline bettor, it was a tough finish in Raleigh. The Wolfpack led 20-10 with 3:05 to go in the third quarter, and 20-17 after 45 minutes. However, Florida State escaped their house of horrors, Carter-Finley Stadium, with a 24-20 win with a touchdown with 3:09 to go. The Wolfpack nearly had an interception on that drive, but were unable to pull through. Moneyline bettors came close, but no cigar.

-- Kentucky was up 24-21 late, and it appeared they were on their way to sole possession of first place in the SEC West, as well as earning a win on the moneyline at +2 1/2. However, the Wildcats allowed two field goals late in the quarter, with the game-tying field at 2:47 and the game-winner with :00 remaining.

4th Quarter Covers - Week 10
November 6, 2016

Glancing at the scoreboard won’t tell you the whole story in most games. Here are some of the games that went down to the wire relative to the spread in the fourth quarter last week in the 10th college football weekend to start the month of November.

Each week there are several teams that cover despite not necessarily deserving it, as well as other teams that played much better than the final score shows.

Northern Illinois (-17) 45, Bowling Green 20: This rematch of last season’s MAC championship wasn’t quite the appealing game the conference had hoped for with a pair of struggling teams but it was still a competitive game after Bowling Green climbed to within 11 points late in the third quarter. Northern Illinois slipped past the spread in the final minute of the third quarter leading 38-20 but Bowling Green was in position to answer with 1st-and-goal from the Northern Illinois 8-yard line. Four incomplete passes later the Huskies had the ball back but Bowling Green held on defense until they handed the ball back to Northern Illinois after failing going for it on 4th-and-5 from their own 30-yard line. Five plays later Northern Illinois wrapped up the game and the favorite cover with a touchdown run with fewer than two minutes to go on the clock.

Ohio (-17½) 34, Buffalo 10: The Bobcats pulled past the heavy home favorite spread for the first time only 19 minutes into the game with a 20-0 edge and then after exchanging scores still held a 27-7 advantage before a short Buffalo field goal cut the margin to 17 points by halftime. Seven straight punts started the second half before Ohio turned in a 47-yard touchdown drive making the most of good field position for a 34-10 edge early in the fourth quarter and Buffalo didn’t make much of a threat to spoil the cover on its final two possessions.

Wake Forest (-2½) 27, Virginia 20: Down 17-6 at the half Virginia rallied to take a 20-17 edge late in the third quarter. A field goal with about eight minutes to go tied the game for Wake Forest and just over a minute later the Demon Deacons took the lead with a big play on defense, taking an interception 39 yards for the go-ahead score 27-20. Virginia had two more possession before the game ended but the Wake Forest defense held to make the Demon Deacons bowl eligible for the first time in five years.

Oklahoma State (+1) 43, Kansas State 37: The Wildcats turned a five-point halftime deficit into a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter. Oklahoma State hit a big play with an 82-yard pass play halfway through the fourth quarter to pull within two points. The Cowboys forced a punt to get the ball back with about five minutes to go and went 80 yards in eight plays without facing a 3rd down taking a 43-37 lead after a touchdown with a two-point conversion. While the ATS win was likely out of the equation for most as Kansas State was favored by 2-3 points most of the week, Kansas State was a threat to score late for the win, getting inside the 10-yard line in the final seconds before throwing an interception on the game’s final play.

Troy (-23) 52, Massachusetts 31: The Trojans slipped past the heavy home favorite spread with about 10 minutes to go in the game, leading 52-24 but the lead didn’t hold as a touchdown with four minutes to go put Massachusetts back within the number. Up by 21 Troy’s final drive reached the Massachusetts 5-yard line but they were able to take knees from there to run out the clock. Some Trojans backers likely still escaped with a win as the line as briefly below 21 early in the week.

Stanford (-16½) 26, Oregon State 15: Stanford led by just six at the half but pulled away in the third quarter to lead 23-7, past the common number most of the week of -14½ before the closing spread hit as high as -16½. On the first play of the fourth quarter Oregon State got into the end zone and went for two successfully to close to within eight points. Stanford added a field goal with about 10 minutes to play and on the next drive the Cardinal were a serious threat to pull away further but Christian McCaffrey was stopped on 4th-and-goal from the one-yard line with about two minutes to go to prevent a touchdown that would have put Stanford past the spread.

Wisconsin (-6) 21, Northwestern 7: The Badgers were favored by seven much of the week and took just a six-point edge into the fourth quarter at Northwestern. A Wildcats fumble for the only turnover of the game gave Wisconsin a short field and early in the final frame the Badgers capitalized with a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion to lead by 14. Northwestern had a few more possessions but came up short on downs twice without crossing midfield as the Badgers held on.

Western Kentucky (-34½) 49, Florida International 21: The Hilltoppers had a 49-7 edge through three quarter but it wouldn’t hold up as Florida International scored a pair of touchdowns early in the fourth quarter in the span of about a minute after taking advantage of a fumble. Up by 28 there wasn’t much urgency as the Hilltoppers went for it on 4th-and-7 from the FIU 26-yard line late in the game and a late Panthers fumble wasn’t costly as FIU stayed just within the heavy underdog spread.

Louisiana Tech (-21) 45, North Texas 24: The Bulldogs led by only seven well into the third quarter before a touchdown made it a 14-point margin heading into the final frame in Denton. A minute into the fourth quarter Louisiana Tech completed an 11-play drive to match the closing road favorite spread, though much of the week the spread ranged from -19 to -20½. Neither team seriously threatened to score the rest of the way as the final margin matched the closing number.

West Virginia (-31½) 48, Kansas 21: The Mountaineers led 31-0 at the half and were past the heavy favorite spread with a 45-7 edge late in the third quarter but a pair of Kansas touchdowns made the favorite cover much more challenging and West Virginia settled for a field goal with about 10 minutes to go to lead by just 27. Kansas actually had two productive drives late in the game but didn’t need to add any points to keep the underdog cover.

Georgia (-2½) 27, Kentucky 24: Georgia had three costly fumbles as the Bulldogs trailed much of the second half at Kentucky despite holding a severe yardage edge throughout. Down by five heading into the fourth quarter Georgia broke a big run to take the lead and in a key play for those on the spread successfully went for two to take 24-21 edge. Kentucky’s offense found some life with its longest scoring drive of the day going 14 plays and 68 yards but settling for a short field goal and the tie after Georgia’s defense held on the goal line. With less than three minutes to go Georgia went the distance and ran out the remaining clock to kick a short field goal for the win as time expired, narrowly slipping by the road favorite spread as well.

Alabama (-7) 10, LSU 0: The game of the week lived up to its billing if you like defense as through three quarters Alabama and LSU were knotted at 0-0. LSU threatened late in the third quarter after an Alabama fumble to reach the 35-yard line but ultimately went backwards and had to punt. With a questionable unnecessary roughness penalty a key play, Alabama went 90 yards in 12 plays for the only touchdown of the game. On LSU’s next possession they suffered an interception and Alabama milked the clock for 15 plays before hitting a field goal to go up by 10 with under three minutes to go. Allowing just six first downs in the entire game the Crimson Tide defense didn’t allow but two yards on LSU’s final possession to incredibly cover the touchdown spread despite only scoring 10 points.

Alabama, Michigan lead AP Top 25
November 6, 2016

Alabama won 10-0 at LSU on Saturday for its 13th straight victory over a Top 25 team, which represents the third-longest such streak in history. Southern California won 16 straight games over ranked opponents from 2002-05 and Oklahoma beat 15 straight Top 25 foes from 1973-76.

Alabama has won 21 straight games overall since falling 43-37 to No. 15 Mississippi on Sept. 19, 2015.

The Crimson Tide received 60 of a possible 61 first-place votes in the poll released Sunday . The other first-place vote went to No. 2 Michigan, a 59-3 winner over Maryland on Saturday. The rest of the top six includes No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Washington, No. 5 Louisville and No. 6 Ohio State. Wisconsin moved up from eighth to seventh.

LSU fell from 15th to 19th following its loss to Alabama.

POLL POINTS

Ohio State's 62-3 blowout of No. 9 Nebraska matched the second-most lopsided loss ever by a top-10 team. No. 1 Army blasted No. 6 Penn 61-0 in 1945. A top-ranked Army team also trounced No. 2 Notre Dame 59-0 in 1944.

The 59-point setback was the worst loss ever for a team ranked ninth. Nebraska was on the other end of the previous record, as the second-ranked Cornhuskers whipped No. 9 Washington 55-7 in 1998.

Nebraska fell from No. 9 to No. 21 in this week's poll.

UP

- No. 8 Auburn rose three spots after edging Vanderbilt 23-16.

- No. 9 Oklahoma moved up three slots after a 34-24 triumph at Iowa State. The Big 12 had been left out of the Top 10 last week.

- No. 12 Penn State soared eight spots after its 41-14 rout of Iowa.

- No. 14 Western Michigan moved up three spots after a 52-20 win at Ball State. That's the highest ranking for any Mid-American Conference team since Ball State was 12th on Nov. 30, 2008.

- No. 16 Colorado moved up five spots after its 20-10 triumph over UCLA. This marks the Buffaloes' highest ranking since December 2002.

- No. 17 Oklahoma State rose five spots after winning 43-37 at Kansas State.

Mississippi QB Chad Kelly tears ACL, out for season
November 6, 2016

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) Mississippi quarterback Chad Kelly will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL and lateral meniscus in his right knee.

The 6-foot-2 senior was hurt Saturday in the Rebels' victory over Georgia Southern. The school announced the injury following Kelly's MRI on Sunday, and said he would have surgery this week.

Kelly has thrown for a Southeastern Conference-leading 2,758 yards, 19 touchdown and eight interceptions this season. He threw for more than 4,000 yards as a junior and led Ole Miss to a Sugar Bowl win over Oklahoma State.

Ole Miss hasn't had nearly as much success this season. The Rebels have a 4-5 record and will now likely turn to redshirt freshman Jason Pellerin as they try to become bowl eligible. True freshman Shea Patterson - who was one of last year's top quarterback recruits - is also an option, though the Rebels were trying to redshirt him this season.

Kelly is the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who starred for the Buffalo Bills. The younger Kelly finished his Ole Miss career with 6,800 career yards passing despite playing just 22 career games, which ranks third in school history behind Eli Manning and Bo Wallace.

Kelly's college career started at Clemson, but he was kicked out of the program in 2014 for conduct detrimental to the team. He played one season at East Mississippi Community College before transferring to Ole Miss.

-Lamar Jackson, Louisville, accounted for seven TDs and 416 yards in three quarters to lead the No. 5 Cardinals to a 52-7 victory over Boston College.

-D'Onta Foreman, Texas, had career highs with 341 yards rushing and three TDs, leading the Longhorns over Texas Tech 45-37.

-Wilton Speight, Michigan, set a school record with 292 yards passing in the first half and finished with a career-high 362 while accounting for three TDs in the No. 2 Wolverines' 59-3 win over Maryland.

-Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State, threw for 457 yards and five TDs , helping the No. 22 Cowboys hold on for a 43-37 victory over Kansas State.

-Kyle Hicks, TCU, ran for a career-high 192 yards with five TDs to help the Horned Frogs beat 13th-ranked Baylor 62-22.

-Christian McCaffrey, Stanford, rushed for 199 yards and a TD to help the Cardinal beat Oregon State 26-15.

-Rawleigh Williams, Arkansas, rushed for 148 yards and a pair of TDs as the Razorbacks defeated No. 10 Florida for the first time since 1982 with a 31-10 victory.

-Luke Falk, Washington State, threw for 311 yards and four TDs and the No. 25 Cougars beat Arizona 69-7.

-Elijah Hood, North Carolina, ran for 168 yards and three TDs to help the No. 18 Tar Heels beat Georgia Tech 48-20.

-Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic, rushed for a school-record 252 yards and three TDs in a 42-25 victory over Rice.

-Austin Gahafer, Morehead State, threw for 465 yards and five TDs and set a Pioneer League record with 11,231 career yards in a 54-28 win over Butler.

-Carlos Henderson, Louisiana Tech, scored five touchdowns for the second time this season in a 45-24 win over North Texas.

AGGIES GO DOWN

Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald was hit a few yards shy of the end zone as one, two and then three Texas A&M defenders tried to pull him to the ground.

But the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder kept stumbling and straining, dragging the Aggies along with him as he finally fell into the end zone for a crucial touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The sophomore quarterback - and these Bulldogs - weren't going to be denied in a 35-28 upset win over No. 7 Texas A&M, all but ending the Aggies' College Football Playoff hopes.

Fitzgerald's bruising 4-yard touchdown run was one of the many highlights for Mississippi State's running game, which finished with a season-high 365 yards. Fitzgerald ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns while Aeris Williams ran for a career-high 140 yards and a touchdown.

The Aggies were ranked No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday, but will now almost certainly tumble out of contention.

JACKSON'S HEISMAN STATEMENT

Forearm cramps and finger numbness threatened to do what Boston College's defense couldn't: derail Lamar Jackson's Heisman Trophy run .

The Louisville quarterback left the game late in the second quarter after opening a five-touchdown lead, then he returned in the third quarter to run for another two touchdowns and lead the fifth-ranked Cardinals to a 52-7 victory over BC.

Jackson ran for a 69-yard score on the game's third play and added rushing TDs of 13 and 53 yards in the second half. The Heisman favorite also threw for TDs from 30, 44 and 10 yards out.

Monday’s List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday

Falcons 43, Buccaneers 28— Tampa Bay is now 17-43 in its last 60 home games; they fired Lovie Smith because they didn’t want QB guru Dirk Koetter to leave, but Winston isn’t playing as well now. This was halfway point of season and Tampa hasn’t won a home game. Atlanta is in good shape at 6-3- they haven’t had their bye yet, either. Over is 8-1 in Falcon games.

Chiefs 19, Jaguars 14— Kansas City had 16-yard edge in field position; they started four drives in Jax territory, kicking three FGs, scoring only one TD, and that was on a 23-yard drive, so if you gave the points, thats why you lost. With 8:23 left and KC up 19-7, Jaguars fumbled on 6-inch line as runner was crossing goal line; they scored on their next drive, but fell just short of pulling the upset. Under is 6-1 in Chiefs’ last seven games.

Lions 22, Vikings 16 OT— Three weeks ago, Vikings were 5-0 and on an 18-2 run against the spread, which rarely happens. Now they’re 5-3, their OC quit and both their OT’s are hurt. In this game, Minnesota scored with 0:23 left in regulation to take lead, then Stafford got Lions into position for game-tying 58-yard FG at gun. Vikings’ PK Blair Walsh missed a PAT and had FG blocked- he might not be employed much longer. Every Detroit game has been decided by 7 or less points. Success in the NFL is extremely fragile.

Giants 28, Eagles 23— Wentz threw picks on first two possessions, Giants grabbed 14-0 lead 5:07 into game; in second quarter, after a Philly FG, Pederson passed up FG tries of 40, 23 yards to try and get a first down, failing both times- they also had a FG blocked, then came up empty in the red zone on their last drive. You get ball in red zone six times and score only 20 points, you deserve to lose. If Eagles kick those 2nd quarter FGs, this might’ve been a different ending.

Cowboys 35, Browns 10— Not much to say here; a complete ass-kicking. During Rams’ game, FOX’s Kevin Burkhardt said “Right now, Dallas is best team in the NFC.” His partner John Lynch responded very quickly/skeptically, “Thats what the records say.” Cleveland is horrible.

Credit to Jason Garrett for this: Cowboys are 7-1 vs spread in last eight games as a road favorite- they win games they’re expected to win.

Dolphins 27, Jets 23— Jets scored in last 6:00 to take lead, but Miami ran kick back 96 yards for game-winning TD. This was Miami’s 4th straight home game, with a bye in between; their next two games are in southern California. Greg Gumbel/Trent Green had this game; they are a better crew than Nantz/Simms, and not because of Nantz.

Ravens 21, Steelers 14— This was Baltimore’s first win since September 25 and they’re in first place in AFC North, which is terrible this year. Ravens scored one offensive TD, a 95-yard pass in first quarter- their other TD was on a blocked punt. Bengals are 3-4-1, only half-game out of first place. Roethlisberger was obviously rusty as he returned too soon from his injury. Ravens are 12-3 off their last 15 bye weeks.

Saints 41, 49ers 23— In their last three games, Saints have run 62 more plays than their opponents. NO is now 4-4 after an 0-3 start. Chip Kelly should take Phil Knight’s $10M and go back to Oregon; 49ers are horrendous. Six of last seven SF games went over the total. Niners were outscored 91-23 in second half of their last five games.

Panthers 13, Rams 10— I could go on for a while about the Rams, but right now, I only want to know one thing; has Jeff Fisher’s contract been extended past this year? No one knows.

If it has been, then what he’s doing with Jared Goff is the proper course of action, let the kid learn on the sidelines and they’ll grow together.

If Fisher’s contract hasn’t been extended, then this is unacceptable, holding the franchise hostage so he can get a new deal, because this Case Keenum-led offense is putrid. Fisher makes $7M a year and right now, his team isn’t good. He really doesn’t deserve the extension.

The last 22 times the Rams have had the ball, their offense has outscored the other team’s defense, 10-7. How much bleeping worse could Goff be?

Colts 31, Packers 26— Misleading score; Indy kicked their butts in this game, running opening kick back for a TD, then running another kick back 61 yards later in first half. Over is 7-2 in Colt games this year. If you had Aaron Rodgers at QB, wouldn’t you get him a couple of really fast WRs? Green Bay scored 58 points in its last two games and lost both of them- they’re not athletic enough.

I’m mad because the Rams are 3-5; hell, the Packers have Rodgers and they’re 4-4.

Chargers 43, Titans 35— Ken Whishenhunt almost hung half a hundred on the team that fired him as HC last year, though they did score two defensive TDs. There is a proposition on the ballot in San Diego Tuesday to raise the hotel tax to pay for a new stadium for the Chargers; it needs 66.7% to pass, but if it gets over 50%, then the stadium is in limbo. Over is 7-2 in Charger games, 6-0 in last six Titan tilts.

Raiders 30, Broncos 20— Oakland ran ball for 218 yards, had 18-yard edge in field position; before this game, most rushing yards Denver had allowed was 157. In their first eight games, Denver’s defense scored three TDs, created field position for 10 TDs where scoring drive was less than 60 yards. Broncos’ average starting position here was their own 19-yard line, worst in NFL this week. Oakland is 7-2 and atop AFC West, with second-best record in AFC.

In baseball news, Colorado Rockies will name Bud Black their new manager Monday morning. Interesting that a former manager willl manage the Rockies, given the problems pitches have had pitching in high altitude.

Tuesday’s games

Eastern Michigan went 7-41 SU last four years, but they’re 5-4 now and can become bowl eligible here. Eagles lost three of last four games; they’re 3-2 on road with an upset win at Ohio, but a home loss to Miami. EMU covered six of its last seven games. Ball State lost four of its last five games; they’re 0-3 at home in MAC, allowing 39.3 pts/game in losses by 7-10-32 points. Cardinals allowed 1,025 PY in last three games. MAC home teams are 11-22 vs spread in conference play. Ball State is 11-1 in last 12 series games, covering four of last five.

Western Michigan is 8-0 this season, 5-2 vs spread in lined games, winning MAC road games by 39-41-32 points. Broncos lost last two games with Kent State by 17-18 points, but teams last met in 2013. Favorites covered last eight series games. Four of Kent State’s last five games were decided by 4 or less points; Golden Flashes lost both its MAC home games by 4 points each; they’re 5-7-1 as home underdogs under Haynes. Broncos are 5-2 as road favorites under Fleck, 3-0 this season. MAC home underdogs are 5-9 against the spread.
