Henrik Lundqvist, NY Rangers - Out Thurs

Lundqvist will get the night off Thursday against the Blackhawks in order to rest following the Olympics.


Blue Jackets have been playing better without Gaborik

Marian Gaborik is set to make his return to the Columbus Blue Jackets against Edmonton Thursday. Gaborik, despite his name recognition, has not helped Columbus win so far this season.

With Gaborik in the lineup, the Blue Jackets are 6-10-2. When Gaborik is not in the lineup for the Blue Jackets they have a stellar 25-11-5 record.


Flames give Ortio NHL debut versus Kings

The Calgary Flames will give Joni Ortio his first NHL start between the pipes tonight.

The Flames host the Los Angeles Kings Thursday evening, with the visitors coming off a 6-4 victory at the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday evening.

Ortio is a 22-year-old who has made 28 appearances for the Flames' AHL affiliate - the Abbotsford Heat. He is 20-6 with a 2.22 GAA and .926 save percentage for Abbotsford.

The Flames are currently +120 home dogs.

Blackhawks acquire D Connelly from Wild

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defenseman Brian Connelly from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday in exchange for forward Brad Winchester.

Connelly will report directly to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. He previously spent parts of four seasons with the IceHogs from 2009 to 2012.

Connelly, 27, has appeared in 50 games this season with the AHL's Iowa Wild, leading the team in points (32) and assists (27). He also ranks second among team defensemen in goals (5) and power-play goals (3).

The Bloomington, Minn., native has tallied 213 points (32 goals, 181 assists) in 343 career AHL games with Rockford, Abbotsford, Houston and Iowa. He has played in the AHL All-Star Game twice (2010-11, 2011-12) and was named to the AHL's Second All-Star Team following the 2011-12 campaign.

Winchester, 32, has recorded 30 points (16 goals, 14 assists) in 55 games this season with Rockford. He was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on July 24, 2013.

Canadiens G Price to miss two games

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will be sidelined for two games with a lower-body injury that he tweaked during the Olympics, the team announced Wednesday.

Price left the ice during the team's morning skate on Wednesday after stopping a shot during a drill. He did not return and the Canadiens subsequently recalled goaltender Dustin Tokarski from Hamilton of the American Hockey League for Wednesday night's home game against the Detroit Red Wings.

"During the Olympics, Carey aggravated a lower-body injury. He will not play the next two games and he's day to day," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said.

Montreal backup goaltender Peter Budaj will start Wednesday in place of Price against the Red Wings.

The 26-year-old Price was named the top goaltender in the Olympics after posting a 5-0-0 record, a 0.59 goals-against average, a .972 save percentage and two shutouts for Canada's gold-medal-winning team.

This season with the Canadiens, Price has a 26-17-5 record with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage.

Kuemper gets start after Thursday's shutout

Fresh off a 21 save, shutout performance against the Edmonton Oilers Thursday, the Minnesota Wild will ride the hot goalie as Darcy Kuemper will start tonight at the Vancouver Canucks.

Kuemper has played well as starter Josh Harding remains on IR. The Saskatoon native is 9-3-2 with a 2.29 GAA and .921 save percentage on the season.

The Wild are currently +138 road dogs at the Canucks Friday.


Lightning forward Steven Stamkos, out Saturday

Stamkos is recovering from a broken right tibia which he suffered on November 11th against the Bruins. He will not play on the team's upcoming four-game road trip but expects to return on March 6th to face the Sabres.


Pens' Letang expects to return after stroke

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is confident that he will play hockey again after suffering a stroke last month.

Speaking with reporters before the Penguins' game against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night, Letang, 26, said doctors told him that he should be able to get back on the ice. But when that happens remains unknown.

"(Doctors) said being 26 and having a stroke, it's actually a small percentage, but the chance that I get back to normal is really high," Letang said. "We'll take the decision from there, but for now, we're keeping like this. ... I'm going day by day to get to 100 percent. I feel like I'm trying to make steps and getting closer to coming back at one point."


Sabres come out of Olympic break hot

The Buffalo Sabres have come out of the Olympic break on a modest two-game winning streak and close off their mini three-game homestand against the San Jose Sharks Friday.

The Sabres defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Tuesday, and followed that up with a 5-4 OT victory against the Boston Bruins Thursday.

The Sabres are currently +163 home dogs.

After beginning the season nearly unbeatable at home (20-0-2), the Anaheim Ducks have stumbled in five of their last seven games at the Honda Center. The Ducks look to regain their footing and vie for their first season sweep of St. Louis on Friday night when they return from the Olympic break by hosting the Blues.
