Even though I run a service, I pretty much agree with all of you. Some of these guys really dont know how to cap games. And some of them don't even bet on their game. Cappers that scam and pull stupid marketing ads really hurt the industry. Its hard for me to get clients to believe I wont scam them especially if they have been burnt bad before. Most of my clients who are scared, I give them 3 days free to see how we do, then they can make their own decision.

PhilJr, I look at the service thread everynight. I like to see who they are on. I think there are some pretty good cappers.
I don't have a problem with the service thread or members asking for service plays. This thread is to try to open the eyes of gamblers who think there's a quick get rich scheme or a sure solution to dig themselves out of a hole. They are looking for trouble.
Here's another problem I have with services. If they are that good at picking winners why waste your time marketing your service. Spend that time handicapping games and make millions betting the games. There's many true professional gamblers who do very well betting their own games that DON'T sell their picks.

Sportwizards-I have read you stuff, and what I said doesn't apply to you or a lot of the smaller and independent cappers.
It is Ty Gaston, Feist and his crew, Jack Price, Demarco, Feiner, Kevin Duffy , Big Al, Marc Lawrence, and the biggies for the most part who should be targeted;for the record I don't put Big Al and Marc Lawrence in same class as the guys mentioned before that.

Services in general
Hmmm. Where to start? First of all, I'm guessing that most of the previous poters here have been betting sports for a relatively short period of time compared to me. Been doin this for 35 years. In general, all the posts above are pretty accurate...the vast majority of services are truly SCAMDICAPPERS. There are, however, a handful of services that are reputable and, over the long run successful at producing winners. What amazes me, though, is that for the most the guys on the Forum are asking for the slimiest of ALL the SCAMMERS. It is seeing people's interest in FEIST, COKIN, BIG AL, LAWRENCE, NERI, A-PLAY (Chip Cherimbes), PRICE, ROOT, NSA, PREFERRED (a/k/a Lawrence), CINCINNATTI KID (a/k/a Lawrence's son), NESS, etc, that leads me to conclude that most of the Forum is quite a bit less experienced than I am. Everyone in my generation has known for decades about the guys above. They were scamming us when we were young back in the 70s. If it wasn't for new, fresh meat, none of the f*****s would even still be in business. I've preached it out here before. NEVER PAY A NICKEL TO ANY SERVICE THAT SHARES A MAILING ADDRESS WITH ANY OTHER SERVICE. ALL THE GUYS ABOVE ARE PART OF ONE OF THREE SYNDICATES AND YES, THEY PLAY OFF EACH OTHER PICKS. And look...every one of the sammers listed above will mail you rotation schedules that have ads for "other" services chocked throughout the schedule books. DOES THAT NOT MAKE READERS SKEPTICAL...HELLO!!! If you have a business that publishes marketing materials, would you sell ad space inside the cover to your competitors????
Some of the posts put forth another myth that should be dispelled. Vegas sportsbooks DO NOT kick anything back to these theives for two reasons. First, it's illegal. I've worked in legal books, and while the possibility of breaking the law isn't one of their top priorities, their license is not worth jeopardizing, at least not to pay off these jerks. Secondly, and more importantly, THEY DON'T NEED TO. Over the past ten or so years with the improvement of software sophistication and real time data, the books are never exposed to losses on the magnitude they were in the 80s and before. Yes, they do have imbalances on certain games and they DO lose on some of them. However, with improved data analysis their risk is really minimal on a relative basis. Finally, it doesn't do the books any good to manipulate an overlay by using these scammers to put people on the wrong side of a game. This would be profitable ONLY if the book actually KNOWS which side will cover. In summary, I am agreeing with most of your points and there are hundreds of reasons to hate these slimes...But intentionally putting their players on the "wrong" side is not one of them.
I know this is a long post, and I apologize for the length, but there are two more points I'd like to make. Whether you're talking about the scammers listed above or one of a handful of LEGITIMATE services with their client's interest at least somewhat at heart, it is a mistake to isolate any one game and draw conclusions about the services reliability. In one of the posts the GT/Tulsa game was discussed. And yeah, virtually every one of the services missed it and not just by a little bit. There isn't a one of us that at sometime in the past didn't have a game they really loved...looked like a lock. We bet it and things fell apart from the opening kickoff. Instead of covering laying 17 we get beat STRAIGHT UP by 14!!! The fact is that kind of stuff happens...to us and to the services. Our own plays, or those of services, have to be evaluated over the long term. That Tulsa loser counts no more than the Ole Miss failure to cover by 1/2. Anybody who "takes" a service play and assumes its a sure winner, frankly, deserves what he gets. We all know that the best anybody (ourselves or a service) is ever going to do over the course of a season is what...maybe 65%. That means then that if you are following the theoretically best service on the planet, ANY ONE GAME IS ONLY 2 TO 1 TO WIN!!! For that reason, I think its a mistake to evaluate anybody on a very short-term basis.
There ARE some decent services out there though. A few that come to mind, and for which I can attest to their reliability, integrity, and honesty are NorthCoast, Executive Sportsline out of Cresson, PA., and Mike Lee. As I said, I can vouch for their integrity. Does that mean they win every game, every week, every month, or even every season? No, it does not. But it does mean that they do their homework and make every effort to get their customers on the right side. With regaad to the three above, since 1998 (six football seasons) NC has had one losing season (including juice), Executive has had one (this one), and Lee has had two.
One more thing....A-Play who is as alimy as any will even have good runs. This college season he was 17-2 through the first month. Godd handicapping???? No way in hell...Good luck. By season's end he was around 50%...Damn glad I didn't get on his bandwagon AFTER the first month. Sorry again for the length of th epost. GLTA

i PROMISE you i do not pay any attention to any services and if i look at the thread, it is only to make jokes ..............
the reason so many people look at it is simple, they believe that these salesman know how to pick games better than the rest of us...........are they better than your typical gambler who plays the favorite in every game?? probably
but i do not even give respect to the monitored ones because i KNOW for a fact i know as much as any of them and i can be great and i can be terrible, and i am sure if i wanted too, i could quit my current job and start that business which entailes nothing more than using trends or stats to convince people who do not know anything about gambling that i/they do
anyway, i do not mind the ones like phil steele and big al, who are honest guys........they do not bs you that much (except call losses wins and pushes sometimes) so the person knows what they are getting into, but the ones that savage always talk about like price , feiner, feist, the syndcates should be in jail.........i know at least 5-10 of us on this site could pick games as well or better than them
f*** the services and all the bs that comes out of their mouths and their 40-1 ATS systems

savage1, I'm willing to bet the majority of beggers in the service thread are:
1. Young or novice players looking for an easy way to make money.
2. Players who are too lazy to handicap their own games
3. Players who are looking for a "guaranteed" bail out.
As I stated earlier. I read the service thread everynight. I like to follow certain cappers good or bad. I'll even make an occassional play if a service is on a certain play but I'll only do so after I cap the game myself.

TO Phil JR.
WAKE THE HELL UP PHIL JR!
If you read all of my post in this thread you would see why I
read the service plays thread. I clearly stated and proved that
the majority and sometimes the overwhelming majority of
of these lying criminal handicappers purposely pick the losing
team so the casinos they work for can make a lot more money
and they make a percentage of the money they take in which
is much more than the handicappers make selling their losing
picks. Please tell me what more of a no good premeditated
malicious rotten doublecrossing thing can these criminal
handicapperscan do than that is? SO DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHY
I WANT TO SEE THEIR PHONY PICKS? I JUST PICK THE OPPISITE
TEAM THEY DO. SO I WANT THEM TO KEEP POSTING THEIR
PHONY LYING PICKS.
I SAY FUCK THESE LYING HANDICAPPES AND ALL THE CRIMINAL
MOB FUCK THAT RUN THE CASINOS!!!!!

BiloxiUMreb, I'm 43. I've been betting sports for about 25 years. I started playing again about 6 months ago after an 8 year layoff. I couldn't justify wagering large sums of money with 3 small children at home. I was spending my time worrying about scores instead of spending my time with my children.
My last bout with sports gambling was in the mid 90s. I took the easy approach. I joined a few services. One being Marc Lawrence. He was very mediorce. His baseball selections were very bad. Back then they didn't offer insight behind their selections. Marc does now. His reasoning is horrible.
I'll state again. Why offer your services if you are that good. If I had the bank roll and was certain I could consistenly hit 60% winners I'd retire from work. I certainly wouldn't waste my time marketing my service. Why do it? I'd play golf and handicap the games during the day and make my plays and watch them at night.
I do think their are some services with good intentions but do you really think for one second they give a rats ass if someone lost their monthly mortgage or rent on their shitty selections?Last edited by frankb03; 01-08-2004, 03:37 PM.

Biloxi-Great post, and I agree with you almost 100%.
You and are in the same boat, as I just turned 59 and have been watching services since they came into being in the 70's starting with Mike Warren.
The only question is re: kickbacks. You call it illegal, but since gambling on sport is illegal everywhere except in Nevada, isn't it at least possible that the word kickback doesn't apply here especially where offshore books in Antigua and other countries are involved? It sounds suspicious to me, and I say that kickbacks are at least possible with a few servcies.
I am not sure of answer to above, but am just raising the question.

To Biloxi
Wow Biloxi
What a reply you gave but I know you are wrong about North
Coast. The 2 weeks I PAID for his service he gave out the
worst games I would not think the worst moron on earth would
pick. The very wrong thing of it is with Phil I will Steel your money
money is you do not know what games he is going to do until
you pay and if you don't like them them and don't bet on them
then you just wasted your money for nothing. I will give you
one of the games he picked which he lost it was Detroit and
Chicago. What horrible losing teams to pick unless you work
for a casino and they are not getting enough action on that
game. I would not ever dream that the worst moron on earth
would pick such a game to bet on with 2 sorry losing teams
playing each other. He went 1-2 and 0-3 in the pros the 2
weeks I used North Coast. In college he was worse going
2-5 one week and I forget the other week but is was not
any good. I did not bet on all the games thank god and called
and let them know what I thought of them. I totally disagree
with what you say about these handicappers just missing games
like the Georgia Tech Tulsa game as there is no way anyone
who is serious could just miss a game like that. They just don't
miss pick games as the games they lose they lose so big it
is incredible.
FOR GODS SAKE A MONKEY OR A ROBOT COULD DO BETTER THAN
THESE PHONY LIARS.
Their losses are just to mathematically impossible to be by
chace and has to deliberate and it is so their fraud won't
work with me anymore.

I don't have a problem with services giving out shitty teams as a selection. Shitty teams do covr the number. Personally, I liked the Clippers last night. I didn't play them but I thought they would covr with that many points against a lousy Philly team. The problem I have is making a TOP selections on lousy teams. When I have a top selection that I like very much I'm going to make it on a quality team. I will not make a top selection on a lousy team in any spot. I'm not going to trust a team like the Clippers with a good percentage of my bankroll.
