Agreed! To the best of my knowledge no team has been crowned champ after losing their bowl game. Aside from playing in the BCS championship game most losing bowl team sink in the polls.

Going into their bowl game OK was ranked 3rd. They finished 8th. Saying bowl result are meaningless is naive.

OK Big 12 10-2 wins conference. Loses bowl game.

My guess Georgia ends the season with the higher ranking.

My POINT is, more people are going to remember your bowl wins than are going to remember you won the conference title. So yes, I think a bowl win carries more weight than winning the conference title. No matter who you are. Sorry, not everyone gets a shot at the BCS bowl games. Mid majors have to do something extraordinary to get there, like go undefeated.

2) depends on which bowl game you get in

Of course they do. That's the same as saying a division title in the NFL is more important than winning a playoff game.

Aside from their fans, IMO more people will remember OK was blown out in their bowl game then the fact they won their conference. Once again. I'm not a fan of any college football team. My recollection of OK is they were blown out last year and lost the previous year to BSU. I have no idea where they finished within their conference.

They beat the then #1 team in the Nation in the conference championship game. And the team they beat in that game, Missouri, wasn't ranked #1 because they are a storied program. They were ranked #1 because of their record and on-field performance. The Sooners do obviously have some recent problems in bowl preparations. That's a fact. I think they need to be underdogs recently to win the big games...Stoops has to figure out some new way to approach preparations when they're favorites in a big bowl game. When they won the 2000 national title, they were 13-point dogs.

btw, Frank, when I made the tongue-in-cheek comment about the Bulldogs being poised to make a run at the championship I wasn't talking about Georgia. I was talking about the subject of this thread. I think Fresno State are the bulldogs, not sure.

Notre Dame many times.....the point is, what do conference titles mean? Nothing. Yes, some need them to get to the BCS, and some don't, but what matters in terms of recognition is what you do in your bowl game, not whether you won the conference championship. Conference title doesn't count for shit unless you win your bowl game. Are you lost?

Kaz,take a team from the SEC.They win there conference championship after a hard tough year,go to a BCS bowl against someone else (who won there conference championship) and play a tough game but lose by a field goal.2 months later the SEC team is getting a banner hung at the stadium and there getting ther rings that say 2008 SEC CHAMPIONS.Don't tell me it don't mean shit.A matter of fact at that time that bowl game don't mean shit.
