I still think Sabathia is overrated especially as we have seen over the years against good teams like the Yankees(well they used to be good) and in the playoffs like last season.
I know the rules say only regular season stats. count, but by realistic standards Beckett was robbed last year for the Cy Young.
The fact that Cleveland is willing to deal a guy who just won the coveted Cy Young Award so easily just corroborates my overall opinion of this guy.
On the other hand, if Cleveland offered him to the Sox and if I were Theo, I would gladly give them Del Carmen, Timlin and Lugo in return and perhaps a draft pick in return.

EXACTLY....thanks for saving me the time to correct that erroneous/un knowing statement......

After all, it is a season, not a few early games, that really count.....He's one of the top pitchers in the Majors, even when he's not completely CC....

La Porta is the best power hitter in the minor leagues. He already has 20 HRs this year and hit a ton last year. He's ahead of the amazing pace Ryan Braun set.

Sabathia will not be re-signed. He wants a seven year deal and Milwaukee isn't idiotic enough to do that. They are in a "win-now" mode as they will lose Sheets to free agency in the off season and probably won't sign Prince Fielder to a long term deal.

If Sabathia takes them to the promised land it's a good deal but they are taking a huge risk on their future to give away a potential superstar for a player for only one half season.

I think Cleveland is the one who made the steal. CC was going to be gone and they get an incredible prospect for him

        great post Gris

Dallas McPherson has like 27 homeruns in the minors, and I wouldn't trade CC Devile for him. Great trade for Mil.
Ace starting pitching is what makes a baseball team good. Sabathia is one of the best pitchers in baseball

The Indians worked that trade to perfection, it was a strong offseason market and Montreal who had a good farm system, needed a high-profile guy to help sell the team. Grady Sizemore was a can't miss prospect when that trade went down, and Brandon Phillips was considered to have just as high of a ceiling when the Indians acquired him. Cliff Lee was somewhat of an after thought in the deal but he's obviously proven himself this year.
Again I think the brewers made a heck of a trade. IF they can re-sign him

To anyone that knows anything about prospects who do you think gave up more, The Mets for Santana ? or the Brewers for CC ?
I don't think they have named the other two minor leaguers yet. A lot of times we are quick to judge trades the day they are made, which is anyone's perogative. But when you are dealing with prospects, while many flame out, some turn out to be All-Stars.

As for comparing this to the Colon trade, I could have picked many others...the point wasn't so much to compare what Cleveland got in both trades, but to judge them when they happen sometimes is not fair. Heck, I could have picked one near and dear to Wayne's hurt...Bagwell for Andersen! Or the one that gets me sick every time I see him pitch...Kazmir for Zambrano, although I don't think anyone thoiught the Mets made a good trade that day, other than Jim Duquette.

I dont think CC has been his old self his early on this year because of his extremly high pitch count and Innings pitched totals last year.... he through much more than he ever had and as late into the season (game 7 alcs) so I think that factored into his struggles, maybe not but he's shown lately why he won the CY last year, though he didn't deserve it over beckett

                    But what about Bret Michaels!?!?!?!?

Agreed but McPherson has had his shot and failed miserably.

Prospects=Potential and a lot of them never make it. Its a crap shoot and gives us great ammo for good conversation.

C.C. has only given up 8 ER's in his last 5 starts (40 innings) and he hasn't lost a game since June 5th. In his last 5 starts he also has 41 K's and only 6 walks. Sabathia is the current Cy Young Winner and he is eating up innings and he is also pitching just as good as anyone in baseball right now. He may have struggled early but that is behind him and you ARE GETTING the "Old" C.C. in this trade.

Anyone who thinks he is overrated is nuts...he is a #1 starter, end of discussion.

I agree and he's 27, just hitting his prime. The Brewers wouldn't have won the World Series without this trade, now they might. If I was the Brewer fan, I would be so happy with this trade, but they need to resign him to make worth while long term

gammons reporting that there is no window for the brewers to try and sign him to an extension, they're trading for him with the hope of resigning him after the season......now THAT'S risky, so as far as 2008 is concerned, the brewers got the better end of the deal.
