It is beter this way for the kids to learn responsibility. I see too many rich kids think its a big party and whose parents pay the whole way. When they pay for it they will take it mare seriously. GL with the kids bro, they are worth it!

There are good community colleges out there, but that's not what I was referring too. If you think a good college has to cost 25k a year then I don't know what else to tell you, but that you're wrong.

I got just one thing to say about this.....and believe you me.....I should know, I raised 6 sons, and all went to college, and three got 9 year degrees.......Masters/PHD's

I had 4 in college at the same time for 5 years.....

Figure............
Tuition
Housing
Books
Food
Clothing....laundry
Incidentals....soap, shampoo, mouthwash, toilet paper, etc...
Transportation....

It goes on and on....It's the same as them living at home, but for all the normal things, and then highly additional for living close to Campus......

I promise my Sons I would pay for their College education, completely, if the maintained a certain standard (grade---established by me---and stringent), and once they faltered, they were on their own.....

In the 80's, my cost exceeded 60G ayear.....I can't even Imagine it now.......

And yes, my kids did work, while in College to assist with finances.......Washed dishes, waited tables, did Janitorial work, and all worked during the summer.....

Anyone who thinks you can get by real cheap for college is dilusional.....It's not just the cost per semester (any school), it's the housing, cost of living, food, transpo, and the things I listed above.....

It's the same expenses you/we have now, with the exception, they have no significant income, and it's all additional for us....

Each has his own opinion on this, and unless you've been there, walked in my shoes, or others, please refrain from the highly opinionated ways to do it....

It's not easy, but it is worth it.....No greater feeling than to look at your kids, and see em being successful, and knowing you contributed to it, which is what I think parents are supposed to do....

We brought em in this world, try and give em a better chance at success than you had.....Kids need help early, not when they're fully grown....

It's costs plenty to get em educated, and partially established, but what the fvk, "have you ever seen an "armored caer" following a hearse in a funeral procession"....you can't take it with ya....and there's no better place to leave it, than in your "EDUCATED" childrens hands......

Move out of that area if the cost of living is that bad. Everyone bitches how NYC, Boston, So Cal are so expensive....that is cuz there are so many people living there. If you need warm, go to New Mexico or Texas. In KC/St Louis there is plenty of good priced living, you just have to be 30-40 min from downtown.



And, if you are paying 80k a year for college, you are paying way too much for undergrad. Unless they are at Harvard that is a croc. I know plenty of people who go in state, or to community colleges and get a great education.

How many kids have you put through college thus far.....how many will you put through college.....

I got a 1st rate hotel management degree at Kansas State...cost WAAAAAAAY less than 25k a year.

you pay 40K a year to get the 150K a year jobs, you pay 25K a year to get the 50K a year jobs....

It depends on what kind of degree you want.....some people are content with roofs over their heads, some strive for better....

and you're telling me "Chill Sherlock Holmes.........., for a rebuttal from my point of view, where I can easily support/substantiate my statement, as well as anyone else with multiple kids (3 or more), and what their kids cost to go through college....

then you say you payed your own way through college....well, I'm proud of ya, and I'm sure half of the people in here did the same, as well as myself....

Take a look at the real world, visualize yourself with 3 kids, all going to college At the same time, get costs from your local area, depending on what type of degree, and then get back to me/us with some supported/documented cost figures....

1 of em makes >200K

Proud father----you betcha---1/2 of em have more things of monetary value than I have right now, but I have 6 million $ worth of parental satisfaction in my heart.....

can you relate to that.....If you can, you know where I'm coming from, if you can't, then you made some erroneous statements....and time will tell, if you have 3 or more going to college at the same time later on in your life.......then make your posts, you would have walked in some of these present members shoes...
