The jihad against online gambling spilling out from Congress these last few months portends a showdown between the U.S. and the U.K. What’s interesting is that this time, the U.K. is unlikely to back down. Britain has embraced Internet gambling and gets a substantial amount of tax revenue from the $12 billion U.S. consumers spend gambling online each year, much of it with U.K.-incorporated gaming sites. You have to think U.K. officials would have an interest in maintaining those revenues, not to mention in protecting their citizens, and in the integrity of the tech sector of their markets, which took a spill after Carruthers’ arrest.
Might the U.S. try to enforce its gambling ban by extraditing gambling executives in other countries? Would those countries comply? What are the implications of either scenario?
If Congress succeeds in pushing through its farcical, ill-considered ban on online gambling, these are just a few of the issues that’ll inevitably pop up down the road. There would be possible free trade entanglements as the bill presents. But here’s another: One way U.S. consumers may get around the bill’s deputizing U.S. banks to enforce the gambling ban would be to simply open accounts in banks based overseas.
Will Congress then attempt to ban wire transfers between U.S. banks and overseas banks that allow transactions with gaming sites? I wouldn’t put it past them.
The heartening side of all of this is that it shows how technology, trade, and commerce can work together to circumvent heavy-handed government meddling. The distressing part is just how far some in the U.S. government will go to impose their values on American citizens."The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice.

I emailed my sportsbook about what is going on with mvp and other books and here is what they said....
No Jeff,
Betonsports and MVP were part of the same company.
They have some specific legal problems that they are dealing with now.
There is a whole family of sportsbooks under the BoS umbrella but we are not affiliated with them in any way and are having no legal issues whatsoever.
And we will be here serving you for a long time.

Originally posted by griswoldI have gotten grief for saying this, but I would at the least withdraw all money immediately from Cosa Rica based operations.
As many as 50 books have closed in the last 24 hours and I doubt anyone will ever see their money.
Make your own decision about offshores, but at the very least the Costa Rican operations have to be considered very risky.
MVPSportsbook and MVPPoker are the same. As is Gecko casino etc. so the # is much less than 50 and there all books owned by BetonSports only.

Originally posted by WintonThe reason this happened to BetonSports is it is a publicly traded business it has to abide by our laws!
Funny how we are at war then have problems with Iran and N. Korea, but they Government seems to have time to deal with offshore gambling. However, 44 states have lotteries, 28 states have Casinos, then theres horse racing, dog racing, bingo parlors etc. which are all ok, but they don't want offshore to be ok....can you say hypocrites.

Amen, Spearit! I can't help but laugh when I think about how the U.S. Government used to pay me to kill people who tried to tell other people how to live!
