Now no one can say Red Sox have not been tested.
I am not saying they are a lock to win WS, but on the other hand, I would rate their chances as at least as good as any of the top contenders.
As long as Toronto keeps struggling with the lesser teams, Sox shouldn't have to worry about them to much at this point.

Lets not get carried away.......Schilling can be hit.....Beckett looks worse and worse.....Wakefield has a bad back and Lester walks on water and #5 just fill in yer BUM......

Ortiz and Manny are great and as long as they are there they can hit but good pitching always gets good hitting.

Tigers are the team to beat once as far as I am concerned.....top to bottom.....pitching and hitting and we have the most in the minors once we choose to make a move. Jones will not be closing games once they mean something......you can count on that.

        PEACE

Detroit is very good, but both Red Sox and White Sox have a ton of experience.
And even though it is only one series, lets not forget what happened what happened when Tigers played-they won 1 of 4and could have easily been swept and 1-2 against the Red Sox.
Its a matter of opinion I guess. yes Tigers have the best record for now, but as we all know, in many cases the team with regular season record does not win the championship.
Personally I would rate Red sox and White Sox as the co favorites with Detroit a close third and then a big dropoff to 4th(probably the Mets).
ps If i knew for a fact Yanks would make the playoffs, I would have them tied with Detroit if not in from of them.
Also, say what you want about Sox starters, but we got Papelbon, something Sox teams have not had in other years-a GREAT closer.

They'll have to win their division. It looks like the wild card will come from the central.

That monkey Jones cost us a game vs the Red Sox or else we wouldve won 2 of 3 and that was our worse stretch of baseball outside of the second week of the season. Tigers can compete with anyone in baseball top to bottom except with the closer.....if the Tigers get Smoltz they will make him the closer. But they wont break the bank for him.

Tigers I heard are also on the prowl for Soriano for some odd reason......I love him but he isnt the National that we need....we need Nick Johnson......he would be a perfect fit and thats who I am hoping we can get.......300 hitter, 400 OBP and has power to all fields

the season is half over.....lots of baseball is left and all teams go in the tank for a little bit....lets just wait and see.....Detroit seems to win close games every time and says something about their character for sure.....always 2-1 in the 7th and win 4-1......I am glad to see some new blood winning.....However, do not count out the Sox (red or white) and even the Yanks

The contenders in the AL have become clear.........Yanks and Red Sox will fight it out and Tigers and White Sox will fight it out. Some trashy team from the West will win that division and by some wierd chance end up winning the World Series. Tigers can play .500 from here on out and finish with 96 wins.......if thats not enough than so be it.

                  Good times are here nonetheless

                  PEACE

Don't forget also that the Red Sox have the best defense they have ever had and lead the majors;couple that with Papelbon, and as a Sox fan you have to be excited about their chances.
I am going to go against the crowd where virtually everyone says the Wildcard will definitely come from the AL Central.
Thats the way it looks now, but just one losing streak by White Sox or Tigers during which Yanks, Red Sox or even Toronto is hot could cha ge this.
I am not saying it is going to happen, but just the fact that almost everyone agrees that wildcard will come from AL Central(we all know what happens when everyone agrees on something) makes me believe it is far from a lock.

lets not get carried away about your OVERrated tigers. Yep thats right i said it OVERrated. Tigers will be lucky to even make the playoffs. Good story but not their time just yet. tigers hitting outside of granderson,i-rod and magglio is a JOKE. thames do you think he is gonna continue the solid hitting??? i dont. Big red C shelton was proved to be a flash in the pain. Who else does D town have?? pitching??? bonderman solid, verlander decent......the gambler???? if you holding hopes on the gambler your in dier straits. Detroit will be lucky to finish in 2nd in the Al central.

But when is Papelbon gonna get a 1-run save?? Three run saves are jokes.

                          Overrated? Smoke and Mirrors?

Best ERA in the majors....check the stats......TTT said it best.....they know how to win the close ones

Polanco cant hit?(MLB batting champ last year) Monroe cant hit?(20HR and 90 rbi last year, doing it again this year) Inge cant hit?(on pace for 30 bombs from the bottom of the lineup) Shelton is a flash in the pan? (last I checked he hit almost 300 last year and hes been at 280 most of this year) Guillen cant hit?(guy might be the best hitter on the team)

Zumaya and Rodney anchor the pen and we have more pitching in the minors than I care to even name (check Miner for now)

We are loaded guy.....BTW I like the easy answer OVERRATED......just try and reason it better next time

If I heard it right, they said in the game that Papelbon has not allowed a run(don't know if it meant earned or not) in twenty some odd innings on the road this year;thats incredible no matter what is at stake.
ps-experience counts for something in the playoffs and that is where I think both Sox teams(and for that matter Yankees) have a decided edge over the Tigers.
Personally, I think all of the above teams are better than any of the teams in the National League, and I agree with somone on the Fox Radio network who said the Jays are probably better also than all of the teams in the NL.
