    • Texans 23, Redskins 21— 33 years ago Sunday, Joe Theismann broke his leg in a Monday night game; just a gruesome injury. In this game, Alex Smith broke his leg in third quarter, with Redskins down 17-7; Colt McCoy came off bench and led two TD drives, but Houston kicked FG with 7:30 to win the game and improve their record to 7-3.

Skins’ TD that put them up 21-20 in third quarter was first lead change in any Redskin game all season, which is kind of hard to believe. Washington allowed 17 or fewer points in all six of their wins; they’re 0-4 allowing more than 17.

Cowboys 22, Falcons 19— First three quarters of this game, no TD’s, five FG’s, which is very un-Falcon-like. Teams both converted 50%+ of their 3rd down conversions, but they were poor in the red zone.

Dallas is 4-0 when it scores 20+ points, 0-5 when it doesn’t; they’re 27-16 vs spread in last 43 games as road underdogs. Under Quinn, Atlanta is 10-17 as a home favorite.

Lions 20, Panthers 19— Carolina hit the left upright with 34-yard FG in 3rd quarter, then missed PAT on TD with 5:13 left to play, so when they scored TD with 1:07 left that made score 20-19, Ron Rivera decided to go for 2…..and that didn’t work either. Panthers are now 6-15-1 vs spread in last 22 games as a road favorite.

Giants 38, Buccaneers 35— These is no excuse for the Bucs being 3-7; they’ve gained 500+ TY in four of their last six games, but they cannot protect the ball. In their last eight games, Tampa Bay has turned ball over 27 times (-25). As the Hall of Fame coach George Allen used to say, “More games are lost than won.”

Bucs benched Fitzpatrick after an awful INT in end zone; Jameis Winston came in and looked like Dan Fouts, completing 12-16 passes for 199 yards and two TD’s, but Manning completed 17-18 passes on the day, as Giants won their second game in a row after a 1-7 start.

Don’t think I’ve seen this before: on their last nine drives, Tampa Bay scored five TD’s but threw four INT’s. All or nothing. They were also stopped on 4th down inside the Giants’ 5-yard line on their first drive of the game.

Ravens 24, Bengals 21— Rookie QB Jackson won his first NFL start, running for 117 yards and throwing for 150 more, playing against a defense that had allowed 500+ yards in their previous three games- Cincy fired their DC last Monday. Bengals lost four of their last five games.

Steelers 20, Jaguars 16— With 2:00 left in 3rd quarter, Jaguars led 16-0; this is a brutal loss for Jags, making them 3-7 and basically ending their season. Jags started three drives in Steelers territory, but scored only three points on those drives. Jaguars passed for only 64 yards.

Steelers’ first 9 drives: 33 plays, 125 yards, zero points, five 3/outs.
Steelers’ last 5 drives: 27 plays, 249 yards, 20 points.

Roethlisberger ran for the winning TD with 0:05 left; Steelers won their last six games.

Seahawks 27, Packers 24— Seattle outrushed Green Bay 173-48; Packers converted only 3-11 third down plays. 46-yard FG Crosby missed when Packers led 7-0 turned out to be painful.

Home teams are now 9-2 in Thursday night games this season.

Colts 38, Titans 10— Tennessee crushed New England LW, so of course they come here and get their butts kicked. Titans’ QB Mariota hurt his elbow near end of first half; Gabbert played 2nd half. Colts have now won 17 of last 20 series games, 10 of last 11 played here. Indy has won four games in a row after a 1-5 start.

In the first half, Titans’ DC, 69-year old Dean Pees was taken to the hospital with “a medical issue.” We wish him well.

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday……

Texans 23, Redskins 21— 33 years ago Sunday, Joe Theismann broke his leg in a Monday night game; just a gruesome injury. In this game, Alex Smith broke his leg in third quarter, with Redskins down 17-7; Colt McCoy came off bench and led two TD drives, but Houston kicked FG with 7:30 to win the game and improve their record to 7-3.

Panthers are now 6-15-1 vs spread in last 22 games as a road favorite.

Giants 38, Buccaneers 35— These is no excuse for the Bucs being 3-7; they’ve gained 500+ TY in four of their last six games, but they cannot protect the ball.

Saints 48, Eagles 7— If you don’t think the NFL season is long, consider this: the Saints lost at home to the Buccaneers in their season opener. Not exactly an omen of things to come. Saints won their last eight games, covered last eight- they scored 45-51-48 points last three games.

Eagles are learning a fact of life in the NFL; it is never far from the penthouse to the outhouse. Philly lost five of its last seven games- they have one takeaway in their last four games.

Broncos 23, Chargers 22— LA’s six-game win streak comes to an end; they screwed up clock management while trying to run out the clock. Chargers had ball at midfield at the 2:00 warning, but they took hardly any time off the clock before punting the ball back to Denver.

Broncos won 12 of last 15 series games; five of last six Charger games, seven of last nine Denver games stayed under the total. Chargers’ loss gives Kansas City some breathing room heading into the Monday night headliner in the Coliseum.

Chargers outgained Denver 479-325; they converted 9-15 on third down; six of those nine conversions were on plays of 20+ yards. But they didn’t win.

Raiders 23, Cardinals 21— These two teams and the 49ers are all 2-8, tied for worst record in the league, which will be interesting when the draft comes around in April. Cardinals beat the 49ers twice; Oakland won this game but got crushed by San Francisco.

Arizona ran only 52 plays, completed only 9-20 passes, converted 3-11 on third down, and their best player is Larry Fitzgerald, who will retire soon. Cardinals are minus-10 in turnovers in their last four games. Not sure how strong their future is.

Bears 25, Vikings 20— Chicago won/covered its last four games; they’re 5-1 at home, 5-0 as a home favorite. Quick turnaround for Chicago; Bears had the Sunday night game, then play at 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

Both teams turned ball over three times in this game; Minnesota threw 46 passes, ran ball 14 times. This wasn’t one of Kirk Cousins’ best nights.

              • Games to Watch - Week 6

The week of Thanksgiving is always one of the best sports weeks on the calendar every single year. Not only do we all get a day off on Thursday, we get a whole day of football. Besides all the fun of the holiday, we also get rivalry week in college football and a full slate of NBA action.

The starts of the NBA will get a day off on Thursday to enjoy a turkey dinner and some family time, but there will still be plenty of games wedged in around that day off.

We are taking a look ahead to pick out some of the best match-ups on the NBA calendar this week.

Monday - Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets

The Celtics had themselves an opportunity to make up some ground on the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference last week, and while they did get a win against them, they lost their next game to remain 3 ½ games out of the lead. Next up is a trip to Charlotte to face a Hornets team clinging to the final playoff spot in the East, although just a game and a half back of the Celtics in the #5 spot. This will be the first meeting between these two this season, but of you go back the last 2 years, you see that the Celtics have won 7 in a row. They should make it 8 here.

Monday - Denver Nuggets at Milwaukee Bucks

The Western Conference is a ton of fun to watch right now, with just 2 games separating #1 from #8. The Denver Nuggets are currently down in the #6 spot, but they are just 1 game out of the lead. They will get their week started with a tough trip to Milwaukee to face the Bucks and will be looking to improve on their current 3-3 road record. The Bucks are a game out of the lead in the East and have been especially good at home, going 7-1 to start the season. The Bucks already have a win over Denver this season and I think they add another here.

Tuesday - Portland Trail Blazers at New York Knicks

This one is interesting in that it features a Portland team looking to maintain their lead at the top of the Western Conference. As we mentioned earlier, things are incredibly tight in the West, which means that a loss for the Trail Blazers could mean that they move down a few spots in the standings. Portland have a winning record of 4-3 on the road and should be able to handle a Knicks team that has just 4 wins on the season. The Trail Blazers took both meetings with New York last season and should be able to pick up a comfortable win in this one.

Wednesday - Los Angeles Lakers at Cleveland Cavaliers

It is going to be interesting to see what sort of reception LeBron James receives when he returns to Cleveland for the first time this season. Given the success that he delivered in his second stint there, it would be stunning to see anything other than a rapturous ovation. This visit is all about getting the W, though, which the Lakers have been doing a lot, winning 7 of their last 10 games. The Cavaliers are dead last in the East with just 2 wins, so this one should be a no-contest.

                    Connecting from deep

The Utah Jazz have won four of their last six games and are coming off an impressive 98-86 road win Saturday over the Celtics. Their defensive effort was solid from start to finish, but the third quarter was where they excelled holding Boston to only 17 points in the third.

The Pacers are also coming off a great 97-89 defensive performance against the Hawks on Saturday night. They have played their best basketball at home where they are 4-1 ATS over their last four home games.

The total is set very low, and for good reason, but both teams might find success from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Jazz allow opponents to shoot 34.9 percent from deep, and the Pacers rank 26th in 3-point defense surrendering 37 percent. Both teams are capable of shooting the ball well and might be aided by the long ball in this matchup. Take Over the 205.5.

                    Cleveland’s slow starts

The Cavaliers have only managed to win two games this season and own an 0-7 record on the road overall. They are struggling to put up points, scoring only 103.4 per game. Today they take on the Pistons who are coming off an impressive road win defeating the Raptors 106-104.

The Cavs are only managing to score 25.3 first quarter points per game away from home, and 50.7 for the half. These two teams already faced off on October 25th where the Pistons won 110-103. Cleveland struggled from the field for most of the game, putting up 50 first half points, 18 third quarter points, but their bench was successful in the fourth scoring 35. Expect Cleveland to start out slow once again, and take their first half team total Under.

                    Building off last year’s success

Despite the Nuggets hot start, they have now lost five of their last six and are looking to rebound off a 125-115 loss to the Pelicans Saturday night. They take on a Bucks team that are coming off a 123-104 home victory over the Bulls. Milwaukee should be happy to be hosting, as they have gone 7-1-1 ATS over their last nine home games.

Last year in their two contests, Eric Bledsoe shot the ball well and was very efficient from the floor; shooting nine of 14 from the field, three of six from beyond the arc, and added to the stat line with three rebounds and eight assists. In their second meeting he shot 11 of 22 including four of eight from deep, with five rebounds and six assists. He should be in for another good night as his field goal percentage is just below 49 percent, and he’s shooting with a lot of confidence recently. Take Over his points, rebound and assists total of 26.5.

                    Offensive spark

The Spurs have been in a slump recently losing five of their last seven games, and four straight on the road. Today they travel to New Orleans to take on a Pelicans team who have won five of their last six overall. The Pels have won four straight home games and have been incredibly efficient from the floor, averaging 118.2 points per contest.

The Spurs will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back and seem to have found more of an offensive rhythm with Rudy Gay moving into the starting lineup. Gay is averaging 14.4 points per contest and shooting 51.6 percent from the floor. He’s had back-to-back 19-point games where he’s contributed with at least five rebounds in each. Look into taking Over on his total points, rebounds, and assists.

                    Using more of the rookie

The Thunder have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA, winning 10 of their last 11 games, and have been efficient without Russell Westbrook in the starting lineup, who has missed the last six games and has been ruled out once again tonight. They take on a Kings’ team that has lost five of their last seven games and are coming off a blowout loss 132-112 to the Rockets on Saturday.

With plans to implement their rookie prospect Marvin Bagley III into the starting lineup and get him involved with more playing time, he could be seeing a bump in minutes quickly. He’s been efficient when on the floor shooting 50.7 percent and totalling 5.7 rebounds per contest. Take Over his points, rebounds, and assists total of 16.5.

                        • Walker stays hot, scores 43 as Hornets upend Celtics 117-112
                          November 19, 2018
                          By The Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Kemba Walker scored 43 points, giving him 103 in his last two games, and the Charlotte Hornets battled back to beat the Boston Celtics 117-112 on Monday night.

Walker followed up his NBA season-best 60-point effort in an overtime loss to the 76ers on Saturday night with another spectacular performance, scoring 21 in the fourth quarter and making 14 of 25 shots, including seven more 3-pointers.

Walker outdueled Boston's Kyrie Irving, who finished with 27 points and 11 assists.

Jeremy Lamb had 18 points and Willy Hernangomez added 14 as the Hornets beat the Celtics for the first time in eight tries.

The Celtics entered the fourth quarter leading 87-84 and quickly stretched the lead to double digits behind Irving, who scored and was fouled on a drive.

But Walker refused to lose this time.

The two-time All-Star simply took over, scoring on drives, midrange jumpers and from long distance. He scored 11 straight points in one stretch, including a 3-pointer from the right wing. Walker was 7 of 10 from the field in the fourth quarter, including 4 of 6 from beyond the 3-point arc.

                          76ERS 119, SUNS 114

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Joel Embiid scored 19 of his 33 points after halftime and added 17 rebounds to help Philadelphia beat Phoenix.

Ben Simmons added 19 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for Philadelphia, which won its third straight while improving to 9-0 at home, remaining the only team in the league unbeaten at home. The 76ers play five of their next six in Philadelphia.

Devin Booker had 37 points and eight assists for the Suns, who started a four-game road trip with their sixth loss in seven games. Phoenix, which fell to 3-13 overall and 0-7 on the road, has the worst record in the West and is one of three winless road teams in the NBA.

Strong first-half shooting helped Phoenix to a surprising 62-57 halftime lead. The 76ers took control in the third, going up for good on Embiid's three-point play 3:45 into the quarter. They ended the period ahead 92-86 and led by as many as 12 early in the fourth on J.J. Redick's runner.

                          PELICANS 140, SPURS 126

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Anthony Davis had 29 points and nine rebounds, Julius Randle added 21 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in 25 minutes, and New Orleans won its third straight.

Randle injected the Pelicans with the hustle and play-making they needed from their top reserve. He had six of New Orleans' 14 offensive rebounds as New Orleans totaled 21 second-chance points. He also made nine of his 13 shots.

E'Twaun Moore scored 24 points and Jrue Holiday 21 for New Orleans, which shot nearly 58 percent (59 of 102). Nikola Mirotic hit three of four 3-point attempts and finished with 13 points, while second-year pro Frank Jackson, who because of injury did not make his debut until this season, scored 12 points.

DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points and Bryn Forbes added 20 for the Spurs, who've lost four of five. Dante Cunningham hit all five 3s he attempted and scored 19 points, but did not score in the second half. Rudy Gay added 17 points.

                          BUCKS 104, NUGGETS 98

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 29 points and Eric Bledsoe added 22, including two late 3-pointers, as Milwaukee overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to down Denver.

Antetokounmpo added 12 rebounds for Milwaukee, which came from 22 down in the first half to beat the Chicago Bulls on Friday night.

The Bucks swept the two-game season series against the Nuggets for the first time since 2009-10.

Jamal Murray had 17 points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Denver, which has lost six of its last seven games. Nikola Jokic had 20 points and Malik Beasley chipped in with 12 points off the bench.

                          PISTONS 113, CAVALIERS 102

DETROIT (AP) - Andre Drummond had 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Detroit cruised over Cleveland.

Blake Griffin added 21 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit, and Reggie Bullock scored 21 points. The Pistons led 66-46 at halftime, and the game was never close after that. The Cavaliers are now an NBA-worst 2-13 heading into their reunion with LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers play at Cleveland on Wednesday night.

Drummond scored 13 points in the first quarter. The Pistons shot 74 percent from the field in that period and led 38-27. Detroit scored the first 11 points of the second, and Bullock's 3-pointer in the final seconds made it a 20-point advantage at the half.

Collin Sexton led the Cavs with 18 points, and Jordan Clarkson contributed 16.

                          GRIZZLIES 98, MAVERICKS 88

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Mike Conley scored 28 points, Marc Gasol had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Memphis broke open a close game in the fourth quarter.

Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 13 points and Garrett Temple added 12 as Memphis won its fourth straight and sixth in the last seven.

Dennis Smith Jr. led the Mavericks with 19 points and five assists. DeAndre Jordan added 17 points and a season-high 20 rebounds. Luka Doncic had 15 points and 10 rebounds but was 6 of 20 from the field, part of Dallas shooting 34 percent.

The loss snapped Dallas' four-game winning streak, and the Mavericks were held under 100 points for the first time this season.

                          PACERS 121, JAZZ 94

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Bojan Bogdanovic scored 21 points, Domantas Sabonis nearly had a triple-double and Indiana beat Utah.

Sabonis had 19 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as Indiana won its third straight - this one without All-Star guard Victor Oladipo, who sat out with a sore right knee.

Ricky Rubio matched his season high with 28 points to lead Utah, which has lost three of four and looked weary on the final night of a five-game trip. Rudy Gobert had 12 points and 11 rebounds in a game that wasn't close after the first quarter.

Utah coach Quin Snyder pulled his starters midway through the fourth.

                          CLIPPERS 127, HAWKS 119

ATLANTA (AP) - Montrezl Harrell had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Lou Williams added 16 points and a season-high 11 assists, and Los Angeles rallied past struggling Atlanta to win its fifth straight game.

Tobias Harris scored 24 points and Mike Scott had a season-high 18 on six 3-pointers for the Clippers, who erased a 15-point deficit in the second half for the second consecutive game.

The Clippers, playing without second-leading scorer Danilo Gallinari, improved to 11-5. At this point last season after winning in Atlanta they were 5-11.

Trae Young scored 19 of his 25 points in the first half, and Taurean Prince had 21 points for the rebuilding Hawks, who dropped to 3-14 and have lost eight in a row.

                            • Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

                              13) I hope this isn’t offensive but it made me laugh………

“An Albuquerque woman is suing Samsung for $1.8M after she necessitated medical attention after inserting her cellphone inside her vagina and was unable to retrieve it for 96 hours.”

The 39-year old woman claims her medical bills at University of New Mexico’s Hospital amount to $1,168,000 and that she has suffered from severe psychological distress because of the whole ordeal. She said she first inserted the cell phone inside her vagina as a dare from one of her friends, but quickly realized that the phone would not come out.

                              Moving right along………

                              12) Did you know that over the last six basketball seasons, Kentucky is just 2-10-1 vs the spread as a road underdog in conference games?

                              11) Colorado fired football coach Mike MacIntyre, who had a 30-44 record in six seasons. Buffs started this season 5-0, but an injury-depleted team lost its last six games. MacIntyre will not coach Colorado in its last regular season game, against Cal.

                              10) Kansas’ new football coach Les Miles gets a 5-year contract that will pay him $2,775,000 a year, with longevity bonuses 2020 and 2022. Its good to be friends with the AD.

Miles gives a great press conference; he probably has been our Quote of the Day on this site as much as anyone, except maybe Steve Kerr.

                              9) We’ve talked before this season about Washington State QB Gardner Minshew, who has led the Coogs to a 10-1 record, throwing for 29 TDs and 3,852 yards.

My question is this: How on God’s green earth was Minshew not the full-time starter last year at East Carolina? He split time with a Duke transfer named Thomas Sirk. Coaching matters.

                              8) San Diego State football coach Rocky Long played DB in the old World Football League, playing for the Detroit Wheels in 1974. Great name for a team. WFL used a yellow football so it would show up better on TV. Pretty sure Pat Haden played in that league too ,maybe for the South California Sun.

                              7) Friday night, Utah Jazz lost 113-107; the team’s star Donovan Mitchell took 35 shots and had zero assists, which usually infers that the player is selfish, which Mitchell isn’t.

Mitchell was 12-24 on 2-point shots, 1-11 outside the arc; you can pass the ball and not get an assist because your teammates miss shots, but 35 shots and zero assists is very unusual.

Saturday night in their win at Boston, Mitchell took 21 shots and had six assists.

                              6) QB’s the Redskins are working out this week to be a backup to new starter Colt McCoy; Mark Sanchez, EJ Manuel, Josh Johnson, TJ Yates and Kellen Clemens.

How does every NFL team not keep three QB’s on their roster? What would’ve happened if McCoy had gotten hurt during the Houston game? Who would play QB then? Redskins don’t have a quarterback on their practice squad.

                              5) Carolina QB Cam Newton threw an 82-yard pass to DJ Moore early in the third quarter in Detroit Sunday; it was the longest NFL reception in three years that didn’t wind up as a TD. Panthers kicked a FG on that drive; the 4-point difference was important in a 20-19 game.

                              4) Los Angeles Rams’ business offices are pretty close to where the wildfires have been burning; the offices will be closed for a couple more weeks. Lot of team employees have been working from their homes during this difficult time in southern California.

                              3) Singer Dolly Parton has donated over 100 million books to children; in a world that is going crazier by the day, thought I’d point out some good news, too.

                              2) Sacramento Kings are 8-8 and much-improved this season, but there are rumors that the team’s powers-that-be are unhappy about the playing time their younger players are getting, and as a result, coach Dave Joerger’s job is in jeopardy. The front office wants the young players to play more; the coach wants to win now, so he can stay employed. Go figure.

You wonder why some teams always, always lose???

                              1) Speaking of which, I wake up Sunday morning and one of first things I read is that the Browns are thinking about interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice to be their new head coach. Seriously.
Remember the 3 G's Gambling, Golf, Girls not in any particular order.....
