    • Inside the Paint - Saturday
      January 21, 2017

Game of the Night – San Antonio at Cleveland (ABC, 8:35 p.m. ET)

The Spurs and Cavaliers met in the 2007 NBA Finals and according to Sportsbook.ag, a major offshore outfit, the pair have a legitimate shot to meet again this summer.

In their NBA Finals Possible Matchups prop, a San Antonio-Cleveland combination garners 11/2 odds (Bet $100 to win $550).

Bettors will get a chance to see the pair in action on Saturday as Cleveland (30-11 straight up, 18-21-2 against the spread) welcomes San Antonio (33-9 SU, 25-17 ATS) to Quicken Loans Arena for a nationally televised showdown.

No overnight line was posted on this game due to the injury status of a couple big men. San Antonio’s Pau Gasol is ‘out’ with a finger injury while Cleveland’s Kevin Love (back) is listed as ‘questionable.’

Coincidentally, these teams met in a primetime showdown last season on ABC and Cleveland ran past San Antonio for a 117-103 victory at home. Since LeBron James returned to the Cavaliers, the series is knotted at 2-2 and three of the four games were decided by four points or left. The total has gone 2-2 during this span.

Cleveland looked sharp in Thursday’s 118-103 home win over Phoenix, covering as an 11-point favorite. Prior to that victory, the Cavaliers were mired in a 4-4 SU and 1-7 ATS rut with six of those games taking place on the road.

San Antonio also notched a blowout win this past Thursday, a 118-104 decision over Denver as 13-point home favorite. While the Cavs have struggled versus the number this season, the Spurs have been a great investment and the point-spread rarely matters in their games. Going back to Dec. 6, San Antonio has covered the number in 15 of its 16 wins.

The Spurs did own the best road mark in the NBA at one point but they’ve been jumped recently by Golden State, who is 17-3 as a visitor. San Antonio started the season 15-0 on the road but it’s just 2-4 in its last six away.

Cleveland has gone 13-5 versus the Western Conference this season and four of the losses came on the road. At home, the Cavs have gone 8-1 SU and 5-4 ATS in nine non-conference affairs. San Antonio is 13-4 SU and 9-8 ATS in non-conference action. On the road, the Spurs are 5-2 (3-4 ATS) versus the East but the two losses came by a combined six points.

As expected, both San Antonio (11-5) and Cleveland (12-6) have produced great records versus teams above .500 this season. If you’re expecting a close affair, the Cavaliers have the edge with a 3-0 mark in games decided by three points or less while the Spurs are 3-4 in that role.

      East vs. West

Along with the marquee matchup, there are four other non-conference matchups slated for Saturday.

      Portland at Boston:
This game tips a tad early (5:00 p.m. ET) from TD Garden and the Celtics have been installed as healthy home favorites (-7 ½). The Trail Blazers are in terrible form right now, losing four straight and that includes a collapse at Philadelphia last night. Portland has been dreadful versus the East this season (5-11), especially on the road (2-7 SU, 2-7 ATS). The home team went 2-0 in last year’s regular season games between the pair and both Boston and Portland notched exactly 116 points in their victories.

Phoenix at New York: Despite losing at Cleveland on Thursday, the Suns have gone 8-6 versus the East but six of those wins came in the desert. New York has gone 8-6 versus the West this season, which includes a 5-4 both SU and ATS mark at home. The Suns outlasted the Knicks 113-111 in the desert on Dec. 13 and the ‘over’ (219) connected. Phoenix has gone 1-3 in its last four trips to Madison Square Garden and the ‘under’ went 3-1 in those games. The Knicks (-6) have been a great wager as home favorites this season, going 9-2 both SU and ATS.

Sacramento at Chicago: The Bulls have won three straight against the Kings and they captured a 107-102 win in California last season. The ‘under’ has cashed in six straight and seven of the last eight meetings between the pair. Chicago has been shaky as a home favorite (9-8 SU, 7-10 ATS) this season and it’s only 2-5 from the United Center versus opponents from the West. Fortunately for the Bulls, Sacramento is 5-11 versus the East and only managed to go 2-7 on the road in those games.

Indiana at Utah: The Jazz have gone 10-6 versus the East this season and they’re starting to clean up at home, winning four straight non-conference matchups. The Pacers are 4-5 in non-conference games on the road and they’ve only been able to hold one opponent under 100 in this span. The Jazz swept the Pacers in the regular season series last season, which included a 122-119 shootout victory from Salt Lake City.

      Zero Days Rest

Half of the 22 teams in action on Saturday will be playing back-to-back spots and there are three matchups that feature both clubs facing no rest.

Listed below are their records on zero days rest this season and notable trends.

Portland: 3-6 SU, 3-6 ATS (Trail Blazers have won and covered three of last four)

Philadelphia: 1-8 SU, 3-6 ATS (76ers are 3-1 ATS last four)

Brooklyn: 0-6 SU, 2-3-1 ATS (Nets allowing 118.7 PPG)

      Charlotte: 3-5 SU, 3-5 ATS, 5-3 O/U (Hornets 2-1 SU, 3-0 ATS last three)

Milwaukee: 2-6 SU, 2-6 ATS (Over 3-0 last three, 4-1 last five)

      Houston: 10-1 SU, 8-3 ATS (League-Best record)

Memphis: 8-2 SU, 7-3 ATS (Grizzlies 0-2 last two, but 6-0 SU, 5-1 ATS at FedEx Forum)

Utah: 6-4 SU, 5-5 ATS (Jazz are 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS last four)

Indiana: 1-6 SU, 2-5 ATS (Allowing 120 PPG in four road games)

Sacramento: 2-6 SU, 3-4-1 ATS (Kings are 1-4 last five, only averaging 97 PPG on no rest)

Chicago: 4-6 SU, 5-5 ATS, 3-7 O/U (Three of the four wins came on the road)

      Total Notes

The Denver Nuggets have seen 75 percent of their games go ‘over’ (30-10) this season and they enter Saturday’s matchup at home versus the Clippers with a nine-game run to the high side. Los Angeles is playing with a short-handed squad but the ‘over’ has gone 13-7 in its road games this season.

Chicago has been the best ‘under’ bet (29-15) in the NBA this season and that includes a 13-9 home record.

Something has to give in the Brooklyn-Charlotte matchup tonight. The Nets have seen the ‘over’ cash in four straight while the Hornets are on a 4-0 run to the ‘under.’

The lowest total (202 ½) for Saturday takes place between Indiana and Utah. Despite slowing it down and playing great defense, the Jazz have seen the ‘over’ cash in its last three games.

            Armadillo: Sunday's eight-pack

Eight golfers who have shot 59 on the PGA Tour:

            — Al Geiberger

            — David Duval

            — Paul Goydos

            — Jim Furyk

            — Justin Thomas

            — Adam Hadwin.

            **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday……

            13) Florida State 73, Louisville 68— More than once on this telecast, Dick Vitale ripped the Florida State fans for being frontrunners: “If you want these fans to come back, you better win this game.”

I’m sure Leonard Hamilton will love those comments, but his team did win.

            12) Arizona 96, UCLA 85— This was first time in ten years these teams met when both were in the top 15 in national ratings. Arizona played great defense in this game; they contested 3’s without fouling and held Bruins to 10-31 from the arc.

            11) Butler 70, DePaul 69 OT— Blue Demons led 25-5 right off the bat, missed FT with 0:01 left to win game, as Bulldogs avoided what would’ve been a really bad loss.

            10) Upsets of the Day:
            — Vanderbilt (+12) won 68-66 in a noon game at Florida, snapping a 4-game losing skid.
            — Niagara (+10.5) won 57-55 over a St Peter’s team playing its 4th game in seven days.

            9) UNLV 87, Air Force 85 (2 OT’s)— Last two times these teams met, there were total of five OT’s played. Rebels tied game with a banked 3 at buzzer of regulation; Falcons returned favor at buzzer of the first OT, then banked another 3 at the buzzer of the second OT to cover the 3-point pointspread.

            8) Oklahoma State 83, Texas Tech 64— Cowboys get their first Big X win (1-6); they’ve led five of the seven games at halftime.

            7) Wake Forest 93, NC State 88— Wolfpack was 16-27 on foul line, 6-26 on arc, and still scored 88 points. Wake Forest was 29-33 on foul line, which made all the difference.

            6) Central Michigan 101, Miami OH 92— 5-foot-9 Marcus Keene scored 50 for the Chippewas, who were down 10 at the half. CMU was 20-33 behind the arc.

            5) Notre Dame 84, Syracuse 66— Orangemen have lost eight in row on the road, their longest road losing streak since 1962.

            4) Marquette 102, Creighton 94- Bluejays’ first game without injured PG Mo Watson (out for year) didn’t go well.

            3) Duke 70, Miami 58— Hurricanes led by 11 at half, then Duke started second half on a 20-1 run. Having Amile Jefferson back helps the Blue Devils.

            2) Spurs 118, Cavaliers 115, OT– ABC got a barnburner for their first Saturday primetime game of the year. I’m guessing Lebron James must like the Cavaliers’ sleeved uniforms, or else they wouldn’t wear them. Kawhi Leonard had 41 points for the Spurs.

1— Kentucky 85, South Carolina 69— Sindarius Thornwell scored 34 of Gamecocks’ 69 points, but there is no one in the SEC who can hang with Kentucky in Rupp Arena.

                • Preview: Warriors (37-6) at Magic (18-27)
                  Date: January 22, 2017 12:00 PM EDT

The moment it happened was still kind of shocking. Here was an All-Star driving into the lane and losing the ball, losing the ball at the hands of a nondescript, little-known defender. These are not run-of-the-mill players. These are the best the league has to offer.

And to do so against a relatively nondescript team such as the Orlando Magic and a young, up-and-coming player like Aaron Gordon is still surprising.

The league is still getting to know this 21-year-old who wowed the basketball world with his athleticism in last year's All-Star dunk contest. And quickly, for those who watch enough, they are beginning to see him put that athleticism and talent to work on the defensive end against some of the league's best perimeter players.

The next challenge? All-Star Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors, who come to town for a Sunday afternoon matinee.

That is a challenge Gordon is looking forward to as he expects to be the one guarding the former league MVP throughout the game.

"It's going to be fun. It's going to be a lot of fun," Gordon said. "It's still a five-man defensive scheme. There is going to be a lot of switching going on. I'm very trusting in my team that we are going to get the job done."

According to NBA.com's stats database, Gordon is stellar defensively. Opponents are shooting 40.8 percent on field goal attempts he defends, nearly four percentage points lower than the league average.

Observationally, Gordon turned in some monster performances. That includes frustrating Giannis Antetokounmpo into 17 points on 6-for-17 shooting before fouling out with 4 1/2 minutes to play on a charge drawn by Gordon in Friday's Magic victory.

Durant though presents a new challenge. As does the entire Warriors team.

Durant is beginning to find his rhythm and footing, averaging 28 points per game while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from beyond the arc in his last nine games.

But the Warriors have pushed themselves to the top of the league once again thanks to their defense. Golden State is first in the league in defensive rating, giving up 101.1 points per 100 possessions.

They used that defense to rout the offensively minded Houston Rockets 125-108 on Friday. The 3-point happy Rockets shot only 7 for 35 , leading to the loss.

"We have to defend like that," coach Steve Kerr told the San Francisco Chronicle after the game. "That's what we have to hang our hat on. Because if we can get stops, then we can get out and run. We're pretty tough to stop in transition."

The Warriors' defense puts even further pressure on offenses to perform at a high level and keep the Warriors' offensive weapons from getting out in transition. Their own defense is a tool that makes life harder for their opponents in seemingly every game. It is all part of the challenge of battling the Warriors.

Durant is known for his gaudy scoring numbers, but is no slouch defensively. Similar to Gordon, opponents are shooting 40.9 percent on field goals against him, a 4.5 percentage-point difference from the league average.

                  • Preview: Lakers (16-31) at Mavericks (14-29)
                    Date: January 22, 2017 3:30 PM EDT

DALLAS -- The Los Angeles Lakers won't have D'Angelo Russell for Sunday's game against the Dallas Mavericks and for the next one to two weeks.

The Lakers announced Saturday night that Russell underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with an sprained MCL in his right knee. He also has a calf strain and bone bruise suffered in Friday's impressive win over the Indiana Pacers.

The point guard did not travel with the team, which said he will be re-evaluated in one week and sidelined for up to two weeks.

Russell was injured about a minute into the game when he tripped while running a pick-and-roll. He left the game and didn't return.

While the Lakers (16-31) went on to win the game, they certainly don't want to be without their second-year quarterback for long. The Lakers are 3-10 this season when Russell has sat out with an injury.

After Friday's game, Lakers coach Luke Walton told reporters that he didn't believe the injury to be serious.

"I don't think it's as bad as I initially thought," Walton said. "When I saw him go down I was pretty worried, but he said he felt all right when I checked on him at halftime."

                    Russell echoed his coach's thoughts.

"The awkward position I fell in caused a little pain," said Russell, who remained on the floor for several minutes in obvious pain. "But I'm all right. It's just sore."

Russell's absence should open the door for Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams to absorb his minutes as the Lakers shoot for consecutive wins for the first time since Nov. 12.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks (14-29) are looking to avoid a three-game skid on the heels of a season-best three-game win streak. They've lost consecutive games to Miami and Utah by a total of nine points.

Dallas also got more bad news on the injury front during Friday's overtime loss to the Jazz, losing point guard J.J. Barea, an offensive catalyst off the bench. Barea, who has already missed two chunks of the season due to calf injuries, again will be out for a period of time with a left calf strain.

He hurt himself going up for a jumper late in the game.

"After a shot, I went to step to the side and I think I ran into the fans behind me and the fans sitting down," Barea told reporters following the game. I looked back, but nobody touched me. When I went to step, that's when I knew something was wrong with my calf."

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said he expects Barea to be out weeks and not just a matter days.

Joining Barea on the sidelines for Sunday's game is center Andrew Bogut, who has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury. In what should be more of a small-ball lineup against the Lakers than the Mavs saw against the Jazz and center Rudy Gobert, who had 27 points and 25 rebounds, Mavs guard Seth Curry, will likely be the beneficiary of extra minutes.

                      Date: January 22, 2017 6:00 PM EDT

TORONTO -- The Phoenix Suns will not have much time to enjoy their win over the New York Knicks on Saturday night.

They must deal with what figures to be a motivated Toronto Raptors team on Sunday afternoon at the Air Canada Centre.

While the Raptors had Saturday off, the Suns earned the 107-105 victory in New York on a 3-pointer by Devin Booker with 31 seconds to play. They then watched as Carmelo Anthony's 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Knicks rolled around the rim and fell out.

Booker had 26 points for the Suns (14-29), who ended a two-game skid.

"The kid's tough," Suns center Tyson Chandler said of Booker. "That kid's really tough. He wants that moment."

Booker scored a team-record 28 points in the fourth quarter last week in a loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

The second-year guard will be facing one of the better guard tandems in the NBA at Toronto in Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan

The Raptors (28-15) will have plenty of motivation. They have lost two in a row, including an embarrassing 113-78 loss to the Hornets in Charlotte on Friday. It was the lowest point total this season for the Raptors.

If they needed any more incentive, they lost 99-91 to the Suns in Phoenix on Dec. 29.

The Raptors became film critics on Saturday, going over recent mistakes and there were plenty to view.

"A lot of it is the mental focus more than anything else, more mental fatigue than physical fatigue," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "It's up to us to hold us to hold each other accountable. The players hold each other accountable, we're holding them accountable as a coaching staff.

"There was nobody spared in the film session, that's the way it should be because everybody had mistakes (Friday) night."

The Raptors will know more on Sunday if a couple of injured players will be ready to play.

Patrick Patterson has missed five straight games and nine of the last 11 with a strained left knee in a game at Phoenix, after injuring his left knee at a game in Phoenix.

Lucas Nogueira has missed the past two losses under the NBA's concussion protocol.

Both will be examined Sunday before receiving clearance to play in the game against the Suns.

"We'll find out tomorrow where guys are and how their bodies feel," Casey said.

They are also working in Jared Sullinger, who has only played two games this season because of a foot injury.

"We've been in a little funk lately," Lowry said after the loss on Friday "We're not playing on all cylinders right now. I just think it's that time of year. No excuses at all, there's just this mental fatigue. We are playing some teams that are hungry right now and are playing well."

The Raptors shot only 33.7 percent from the field Friday.

"That's when your defense has to pick back up," Casey said. "Your defense has to carry you until your offense comes back around. You go through that during the season. The most important thing is we have to stay together, stay positive."

Defense was only on the mind of Suns coach Earl Watson when he talked about Suns guard/forward P.J. Tucker.

The thing about defense is there's no perfect technique," Watson said. "It's all on intensity, passion, toughness and a lot of heart. (Tucker) plays with that every time he touches the court. He is one of our best players. To me, he is the most underrated defender in our league, especially on isolations."

                      • Preview: Nuggets (18-24) at Timberwolves (15-28)
                        Date: January 22, 2017 7:00 PM EDT

MINNEAPOLIS -- Led by two promising big men, the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to develop with a core of young talent.

The two teams have dealt with inconsistency this season in between signs of the potential.

Denver's Nikola Jokic and Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns have their teams on the upside as they meet Saturday in Minnesota.

Jokic had his sixth straight double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday as the Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 123-98 for their fourth win in five games.

"He won the battle but I won the war," Jokic said of his matchup with DeAndre Jordan, the reigning defensive player of the year. "We won the game, that's the only thing that matters to me. We were getting competitive as we're supposed to do. Nothing special, nothing different."

Towns had 37 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday as the Timberwolves won for the fourth time in six games by beating the Clippers.

"He was unbelievable," Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers said of Towns. "He nailed a ton of shots, most of them being jump shots, but he really made them all over the floor."

Both centers are in their second year in the NBA. Towns was drafted No. 1 overall by Minnesota. Jokic was a second-round pick, 41st overall.

Towns is 20th in the NBA in scoring at 22.3 points per game and tied for seventh with 12 rebounds a game. Towns hit the game-winning shot against the Clippers on Thursday with 45 seconds left.

"If the ball is in my hands with the game on the line, I feel very confident I'm going to hit those shots," Towns said after scoring 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the fourth quarter. "Nothing changed when I had the ball in my hands. I went in there with extreme confidence, extreme energy and a love for the game."

Jokic has been taken a bigger role for the Nuggets and has resulted in Denver's recent streak. After playing 30 minutes just twice over the first 24 games, Jokic had played at least 30 minutes in four straight games before being limited to 21 minutes in Saturday's blowout victory.

The Nuggets led by as many 35 points on Saturday, their biggest lead of the season. They also held a team under 100 points for the first time since Dec. 8.

"We have so many weapons," Denver's Danilo Gallinari said. "We've been using them the right way, the right time."

The Nuggets will be missing two of their weapons on Sunday. Gary Harris is unlikely to play because of an ankle injury and point guard Emmanuel Mudiay told the Denver Post he won't play after leaving Saturday's game with low back soreness.

Gallinari has dealt with an ankle injury and Darrell Arthur has a knee injury but both played Saturday. Jokic has been dealing with an ankle injury, as well.

The Timberwolves are without their starting point guard, too. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Rubio would miss the game because of personal reasons. Rookie Kris Dunn and second-year guard Tyus Jones should fill in for Rubio.

"I'm way more prepared," Dunn told the Star Tribune, adding: "I think just because there have been way more games from then to now. I'm starting to understand who I am as a player, what my role is on the team. Just figuring out guys, their tendencies and trying to understand coach's philosophy."

Minnesota begins a stretch of 10 of 14 games at home. The Timberwolves are 9-13 at home this season and 6-17 on the road.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson each hit seven 3-pointers and the Golden State Warriors won their seventh straight game, beating the Orlando Magic 118-98 on Sunday.

Tied at the half, the Warriors woke up from West Coast time in the second half to pull away. This was the first Eastern time zone noon tip for them since 1995, when they lost by 34 points in Orlando.

Curry went 7 for 13 on 3s and scored 27 points while Thompson as 7 for 9 from behind the arc and had 21 points. The Warriors shot 19 of 42 overall from 3-point range while the Magic went 7 for 28.

                            MAVERICKS 122, LAKERS 73

DALLAS (AP) - Justin Anderson scored 19 points and Dirk Nowitzki added 13 to help Dallas give Los Angeles its worst defeat ever.

It was the Mavericks' 13th straight win over the Lakers, who have lost six of their last seven games this season.

The 49-point defeat just edged Los Angeles' two previous worst losses at 48 points, most recently 123-75 at Utah on March 28, 2016.

The game was close for 10 minutes, with Dallas leading 23-22 before the Mavericks scored the next 15 straight to blow the game open. Nowitzki had seven during the run.

The Mavericks led 67-33 at the half and never looked back.

                            TIMBERWOLVES 111, NUGGETS 108

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Karl-Anthony Towns had 32 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists and hit the go-ahead shot with 42.5 seconds to play to lead Minnesota over Denver.

Towns hit 13 of 19 shots and also had four blocks and Andrew Wiggins scored 24 points in Minnesota's fourth straight home win. Shabazz Muhammad scored 20 points off the bench and the Wolves rallied from nine points down midway through the fourth quarter for the win.

Gary Harris scored 22 points and Nikola Jokic had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Nuggets on the second night of a back-to-back. Wilson Chandler and Jamal Murray added 17 points each for Denver, which played without Emmanuel Mudiay because of a sore back.

Kris Dunn had 10 points and nine assists for the Wolves while starting for Ricky Rubio, who missed the game to attend his grandmother's funeral.

                            SUNS 115, RAPTORS 103

TORONTO (AP) - Eric Bledsoe scored a career-high 40 points and had 13 assists and Phoenix handed Toronto its third straight loss.

Bledsoe was 11 of 17 from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and Devin Booker added 20 points as the Suns won their second straight road game following Saturday's win at New York. The victory also completed a season sweep of the Raptors for the first time since 2013-14 and improved Phoenix to 11-6 against Eastern Conference teams this season.

DeMar DeRozan had 22 points for Toronto and Jonas Valanciunas added 16 points and 12 rebounds for his 17th double-double of the season. It's the first time the Raptors have lost three straight since Nov. 6-10, 2015.

                              **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend

                              13) Willie Taggart is the new football coach at Oregon, but his tenure is off to a rocky start; three of his players wound up in the hospital after workouts under the new strength coach (who came with Taggart from USF) who was then suspended for a month.

Then his new offensive coordinator was arrested for DUI last week and will be fired for cause. All this in about a month. No bueno.

                              12) Al Geiberger was the first golfer to shoot 59 in a PGA event; he won the Memphis Open that week by three shots, Weird thing is, his other three rounds that week? 72-70-72.

How do you shoot 59 one day and not break 70 any of the other three days?

                              11) Of the eight rounds of 59 on Tour, only four came on par-72 courses.

Adam Hadwin shot 59 this week and didn’t win the tournament.

                              10) Broadcaster Barry Tompkins is in his mid-70’s now; he teaches broadcasting in college, has been a local sports anchor, been in movies (Rocky IV), broadcast boxing, football, basketball, tennis- he’s had a great career.

Working the LMU-Santa Clara basketball game Saturday night, Tompkins told partner Brad Holland that he never attended college. Apparently he tried to become an actor at an early age and that didn’t go too well. Things worked out really well since then, though.

                              9) When the NBA players voted for the All-Star teams, 51 players voted for Kristaps Porzingis, 50 players voted for Carmelo Anthony.

                              8) Cal Poly has an assistant coach from Poland, a freshman big man from Poland and will apparently try to start a recruiting pipeline from Poland, much like what St Mary’s has done with Australian players.

There is a Big West rule that teams have to give at least 7 of their 13 scholarships to kids from California, so the Mustangs will be going international with those other six free rides.

                              7) Arizona beat UCLA Saturday; heard someone saying that Sean Miller gave everyone else the blueprint for how to beat the Bruins. One small problem with that:

Very few teams have Arizona’s talent level, a level right there with UCLA and few teams defend like Arizona does— they were great at contesting 3-pointers Saturday.

                              6) There have been 19 games this season where a D-I college player scored 40+ points in a game; that player’s team is 12-7 in those games.

                              5) Virginia Tech 82, Clemson 81— Tigers have now lost six games in a row, as a promising season has turned into the season from hell.

Same thing at Colorado; the Buffs were picked to finish 4th in the Pac-12; right now, they’re 0-7 after losing in OT at perennial league doormat Washington State.

                              4) I don’t want to hear anything about 11 or 12 teams from the ACC making the NCAA’s; you finish 11th or 12th in a 15-team league, you don’t deserve to be in the national tournament.

These days, the Big-5 football conferences wield a lot of power, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. Much rather see two teams from mid-major leagues get in the tournament.

                              3) Patriots 36, Steelers 17— How come the Patriots win so much but no one hires their coordinators to become head coaches?

I’m guessing Antonio Brown didn’t broadcast Mike Tomlin’s postgame speech on Facebook.

                              2) Falcons 44, Packers 21— This was an awful game, just a complete destruction by the Falcon offense, which put up 493 yards in an easy win.

1— Kickers were 33-33 on field goals this postseason until Mason Crosby’s missed field goal in first quarter in Atlanta.
