Obama ran a very good campaign, much better than McCain.

    1) He was able to shake the connections with his past.

    2) He stayed on his message.

    3) Defeated the Clinton machine, something many were shocked by.

Everything fell in place for Obama,

McCain was not the best man on the Campain trail. It would have been tough for any Repub this year with all the Bush hatred out there. Guliani may have fared better, particularly in the debates.

The economy tanking this Fall really helped Obama.

For the Republican future, Palin is the bright spot. She drew the largest crowds on the campaign trail and is not the reason McCain lost contrary to what many of you think. She will be a force to reckon with in the future.
I agree. I was for McCain by default. I truly hope I was wrong about Obama. I hope Dimer is wrong but I'm scared to death that he might be right.

Don't be shocked in 4 years if Bobby Jindal isn't in the hunt for President.

Yes Jindal is positioned well and is young, McCain is a good man but age hurt him, Palin helped but the party needs younger candidates.

            I agree.

Let's call a spade a spade. This election came down to race and race only. Exit polls show 95% of black voters voted for Obama. The white vote was 55% for McCain. Black America wanted a black president. White America wanted change.

              • Southern States were all taken by McCain which are predominately black.

And I thought Republicans take a loss with dignity.

I voted for McCain as the lesser of 2 evils. Obamas tax plans scare me. Let's see....because I'm successful, I get to pay more taxes.

I agree that race shouldn't make a difference at all. BUT your statement that there "are more smarter people" is a VERY stupid and racist statement. I voted for McCain - not because he is white - but because I felt he was the lesser of two evils. Obama has NO "achievements" as you wrote YET. I truly hope he does have some very soon. I am NOT bitter because he won.
For you to make the statement that "there are more smarter people than racist ass holes" is flat out IGNORANT and also racist.

Yep, and in Obama's own words, consider it a priviledge to pay taxes.

I hope he can turn this country around. I am not looking forward to the impact I will feel but if he can do what he says he is going to do, I will be more than happy to pull the lever for him in 4 yrs.

Looking at the two groups last night on TV...McCain's group all older, all white folk. Obama's group- young, diversified, energetic...he will have to fall flat on his face or something disasterous would have to happen for him not to be around for 8 yrs.

                          • The guy is mixed race 1/2 white, 1/2 black which in a way made him the perfect candidate. Whites were comfortable with him on race (Dems and Independants).

Race was a factor, but a slight one, 95 percent of blacks would vote democrat anyway.

What killed McCain was the Bush hatred and the economy tanking. The Obama campaign was succesful in painting McCain as another Bush.

The Hispanic vote went 2/3 Democrat which spells disater for the future IMO. Hispanics are mostly Pro-life show it shows that they dont care about that issue and the free government handouts are more appealing.

It will be interesting how imigration is handled under Obama. Hispanics are now 15 percent of the country while blacks are 12 percent. They are growing faster than any other group and both parties will sell their soul to get these votes. Question is: at what price??

                            • I disagree with all of the fear being expressed here about an Obama Administration.
As I have said before, we don't have a dictatorship in this country;there are a House and Senate last I looked.
Also, do any of you believe that just because the Democrats control the House and Senate, that they would support Obama if to take the worst case scenario, he is as extreme as some of you folks think.
Remember, they have a constituency also and want to get re-elected.
To tell you the truth, I doubt your own personal lives, which is all that matters to most, will be affected much at all overall by Obama's Election over the long haul when all is said and done.

                              • Ps From my point of view, one of the most philosophical and important things to hopefully come out of this election is that our image in the eyes of the world will be vastly improved(how can it get any worse!), and will indicate that in this country a person from a minority group can get elected to the highest office in the land and one of the most important in the world.
