      • LEADING OFF: Cards baffling Cubs, Nats & Brewers in WC spots
        September 20, 2019
        By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Saturday:

        TEXAS ONE-STEP

The Astros can clinch a third straight AL West title with a win over the Angels or a loss by Oakland. Houston has won six straight games and is already assured a postseason spot, and it's getting shortstop Carlos Correa in the swing of things at just the right time. Correa homered twice Friday in his second game after missing nearly a month with a sore back, and he finally looks healthy after missing 80 games total with various injuries.

''We can feel it,'' second baseman Jose Altuve said. ''We're excited. We all are anxious about things right now which is normal because we want to make it happen.''

        CENTRAL CONTROL

The NL Central-leading Cardinals are sending another red-hot pitcher to the Wrigley Field mound with a chance to ensure a series victory in their crucial four-game set against the Cubs. Right-hander Dakota Hudson (16-7, 3.35) is 6-1 with a 1.59 ERA in his last seven starts. That's bad news for slumping Chicago, which has totaled nine runs while losing four straight games. St. Louis won the first two games of the series, and its starters have given up two runs in 12 innings - including eight one-run innings from emerging ace Jack Flaherty on Thursday.

The Cubs are two games behind Milwaukee for the second NL wild card and five back of St. Louis for the NL Central lead. They will start left-hander Jose Quintana (13-8, 3.35), pitching on an extra day of rest after Chicago shuffled its rotation to let veteran Cole Hamels rest his fatigued left shoulder.

The Brewers again face Pittsburgh, with right-hander Zach Davies (10-7, 3.70) facing Pirates rookie righty James Marvel (0-2, 9.00).

        ON THE LINE

Stephen Strasburg tries to strengthen his NL Cy Young Award case and help the Nationals regain their cushion in the wild-card standings with a start against Miami. Strasburg (17-6, 3.49) leads the NL in wins, and his 235 strikeouts trail only Mets ace Jacob deGrom (239), the reigning Cy Young winner who is also Strasburg's stiffest competitor this year, along with teammate Max Scherzer. Washington leads Milwaukee for the top NL wild card by a game, and it's now out of the running for the NL East after Atlanta clinched that title Friday night.

        LET'S GET WILD

The A's remain two games ahead of the Rays and Indians for the top AL wild card and are set to continue a home series against Texas. Cleveland, which got a save from Carlos Carrasco on Friday night, is set to continue a series against Philadelphia, while Tampa Bay will face the Red Sox with right-hander Tyler Glasnow (6-1) making his third start since returning from a right forearm strain.

        NO CHILL

Mets slugger Pete Alonso crushed his major league-leading 50th home run Friday night and is two big swings away from tying Aaron Judge's 2017 total for the rookie record. Alonso has nine games to catch Judge, and the Polar Bear could get there quick after homering in his past three games. He'll face Reds right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (9-9, 3.93), who has allowed a team-high 28 homers this year.

        SEPTEMBER SCARE

The Yankees are keeping an eye on Gleyber Torres after his right leg buckled while fielding a grounder Friday night. The Yankee Stadium crowd gasped when Torres went down, and the star second baseman was pulled a bit later in New York's 4-3 loss to Toronto. He said he felt some weakness in his lower legs, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expects Torres to be OK but pulled him as a precaution. Torres leads the AL East champions with 38 homers and is hitting .284 with 94 RBIs and an .889 OPS.

        STRONG RETURN

Giants right-hander Johnny Cueto has thrown 10 scoreless innings since returning from Tommy John surgery, and he may not see Atlanta's best lineup after the Braves clinched a second straight NL East title Friday night. Cueto returned with five innings of one-hit ball against Pittsburgh on Sept. 10, then shut down Miami for five innings on Sept. 15. The 33-year-old is under contract for two more seasons with San Francisco.

                    • College football Saturday odds and line moves: Sharp, public Georgia action has book needing Notre Dame
                      Patrick Everson

We’ve got a big college football Saturday on tap, with three matchups among teams ranked in the top 15, highlighted by a battle between the hedges. Covers checks in on the action and odds movement for that clash and several more, with insights from Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading for William Hill US.

                      NO. 7 NOTRE DAME AT NO. 3 GEORGIA – OPEN: -13.5; MOVE: -14; MOVE: -13.5; MOVE: -14; MOVE: -14.5

After reaching the College Football Playoff final two years ago, Georgia missed the CFP last year and is looking for an early-season boost in this 8 p.m. ET meeting. The Bulldogs (3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) are taking a sizable step up in class, after thumping Arkansas State 55-0 as 32.5-point home favorites in Week 3.

Notre Dame reached the CFP semifinals last season, and getting a return trip could hinge largely on how Brian Kelly’s squad looks tonight. The Fighting Irish (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) dumped lightweight New Mexico 66-14 as 34.5-point home faves last week.

The Bulldogs got enough early support at William Hill books – in Nevada, New Jersey and beyond – to push the line right through the key number of 14.

“We’re gonna need Notre Dame. The public and sharps are on Georgia,” Bogdanovich said. “There’s actually public money for both teams. We’ll have a decision, but not a monster decision.”

                      NO. 10 MICHIGAN AT NO. 14 WISCONSIN – OPEN: -3; MOVE: -3.5

Michigan nearly took itself out of the CFP conversation in nonconference play two weeks ago. The Wolverines (2-0 SU, 0-2 ATS) were healthy 21.5-point home favorites against Army, but never led until overtime, escaping with a 24-21 victory. Michigan had a bye last week.

Wisconsin had a Week 3 bye, as well, after winning and cashing in its first two games by a combined score of 110-0. In Week 2, the Badgers boatraced Central Michigan 61-0 laying 34 points at home.

“It looks like we’ll need Michigan,” Bogdanovich said of this noon ET kickoff. “The masses are a little more on Wisconsin than on Michigan.”

                      NO. 9 AUBURN AT NO. 15 TEXAS A&M – OPEN: -4; MOVE: -3.5; MOVE: -4

Auburn is out of the gate 3-0 SU and ATS, including a Week 1 win over Oregon, followed by a couple of wins against lesser lights. In Week 3, the Tigers pounded Kent State 55-16 as hefty 36-point faves.

Texas A&M (2-1 SU) hasn’t let down bettors yet, going 3-0 ATS, including in a 24-10 Week 2 loss catching 16.5 points at No. 1 Clemson. The Aggies faced FCS foe Lamar in Week 3 and ran it up 62-3 giving 45 points at home.

“Very disappointing handle in that game,” Bogdanovich said, noting WillHill doesn’t have a rooting interest – yet. “At 12:30 Pacific, we’ll have a need.”

                      NO. 16 UCF AT PITTSBURGH – OPEN: +11.5; MOVE: +12.5; MOVE: +13; MOVE: +13.5 MOVE: +13; MOVE: +12.5; MOVE: +12 MOVE: +11.5; MOVE: +11

Central Florida is a regular-season monster both SU and ATS, having won 27 in a row on the field while going 19-7-1 ATS in that stretch. The Knights (3-0 SU and ATS) stopped Stanford 45-27 giving 9.5 points at home in Week 3.

Pittsburgh (1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) had a surprisingly strong Week 3 showing, giving a Power Five unit and instate rival all it could handle. The Panthers were tied with Penn State at halftime 10-10 and only allowed one more score, but couldn’t add to their total in a 17-10 loss catching 17 points on the road.

This game probably wouldn’t be on the radar were it not for a whopping $166,250 moneyline bet on Central Florida -475, to win $35,000. Even with the line trending toward Pitt, WillHill definitely needs the ‘dog in this 3:30 p.m. ET contest.

“It seems like every other bet is on Central Florida, too. The public is all over the Knights, and the Knights have been very good to the public,” Bogdanovich said. “The sharps might be on Pitt, but this is gonna be a big one. We need Pitt.”

NO. 17 OREGON AT STANFORD – OPEN: +10; MOVE: +10.5

After losing to Auburn on a stunning last-seconds TD in Week 1, Oregon rebounded with a couple of wins over much lighter competition. Last week against Montana, the Ducks (2-1 SU, 1-2 ATS) rolled 35-3, but failed to cover the heavy 39.5-point spread.

Stanford QB K.J. Costello suffered a head injury in a Week 1 win over Northwestern and missed Week 2’s loss at Southern California. Costello returned in Week 3, but that wasn’t nearly enough at Central Florida, where the Cardinal (1-2 SU and ATS) lost 45-27 getting 9.5 points.

“We’re gonna need Stanford pretty good,” Bogdanovich said of a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. “When push comes to shove at the end of the night, everyone is gonna be on Oregon.”

                      Other notable matchups:

                      • No. 5 LSU at Vanderbilt, noon ET: The Tigers opened -24, dipped to -23, then returned to -24 Thursday. “That’ll be a big one, and we’ll need Vandy,” Bogdanovich said.

                      • No. 23 California at Mississippi, noon ET: This game opened pick and went to the host Rebels -2 within just a couple of hours Monday, then stayed there until ticking to -2.5 Friday afternoon. “We’re dead even to it. I think the sharps are on Ole Miss and the public is on Cal.”

                      • Nebraska at Illinois, 8 p.m. ET: The visiting Cornhuskers opened -11 and stretched to -13.5 twice, then dialed back to -13 Friday morning. “We’ll need Illinois for a pretty good amount,” Bogdanovich said.

                      • UCLA at No. 19 Washington State, 10:30 p.m. ET: It’s Pac-12 After Dark, one of this week’s get-even or get-even-deeper games. The Cougars opened healthy 19-point favorites against the winless Bruins, and the line quickly went to 20 before peeling back to 18.5 Tuesday. “There’s not much to the spread betting, but parlays, moneyline parlays and teasers are all Washington State,” Bogdanovich said. “We’ll need UCLA big.”

                        • Molina, DeJong HRs carry Cards over Cubs
                          September 21, 2019
                          By The Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong homered on Craig Kimbrel's first two pitches in the ninth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals handed the reeling Chicago Cubs their fifth straight loss with a wild 9-8 victory on Saturday.

Marcell Ozuna also connected as the NL Central-leading Cardinals (88-67) won for the fifth time in six games. Dexter Fowler had two hits and two RBIs, and Paul Goldschmidt also drove in two runs.

Chicago (82-73) used pinch-hit homers by Ian Happ and Tony Kemp and a solo drive by rookie Nico Hoerner to carry an 8-7 lead into the ninth. It looked as if it was on its way to stopping a costly slide that pushed it out of playoff position - the Cubs began the day two games back of Milwaukee for the second NL wild card.

But Kimbrel (0-4) was hit hard again in his first appearance since he gave up Matt Carpenter's 10th-inning homer in the Cubs' 5-4 loss Thursday night.

Molina jumped on Kimbrel's first pitch for his ninth homer, touching off a rollicking celebration in the Cardinals' dugout.

DeJong then belted an even deeper drive for his 28th homer, sending the party on the Cardinals' half of the field to another level.

John Gant (11-1) got the last out of the eighth for the win, and Carlos Martinez finished for his 23rd save.

                          REDS 3, METS 2

CINCINNATI (AP) - Pinch-hitter Christian Colon's two-out single off Seth Lugo broke an eighth-inning tie, lifting Cincinnati over the Mets and dealing New York a critical defeat in the NL wild card race.

New York (80-74) went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and dropped four games back of Milwaukee for the second wild card with eight games left. The Brewers played last-place Pittsburgh later Saturday.

Justin Wilson (4-2) took the loss.

Joel Kuhnel (1-0) got the final out of the eighth for his first major league win. Raisel Iglesias picked up his 34th save in 39 chances.

A day after hitting his 50th homer, Mets rookie Pete Alonso went 0 for 4 and stranded the bases loaded in the fifth when he struck out.

                          ANGELS 8, ASTROS 4

HOUSTON (AP) - Houston remained just shy of its third straight AL West title, wasting a chance to clinch when Wade Miley was hit hard in a loss to Los Angeles that ended a six-game winning streak.

Houston (101-54) needs just one more win to ensure first place. The Astros also would clinch with a loss by second-place Oakland, but the A's took a quick 9-0 lead over Texas in a late game.

Miley (14-6) allowed four runs and four hits while getting just three outs and leaving with two on in the second.

Albert Pujols hit an RBI double, Andrelton Simmons added an RBI single and Kole Calhoun hit his 33rd homer for the Angels.

Luke Bard (3-2) struck out three in two scoreless innings to win in relief of Patrick Sandoval, who lasted three innings.

                          YANKEES 7, BLUE JAYS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Giancarlo Stanton launched his first homer since missing nearly three months to injury, James Paxton won his 10th straight start and New York beat Toronto.

New York manager Aaron Boone was ejected after another tangle with a rookie umpire, and the 101-win Yankees got promising news shortly before first pitch when an MRI of Gleyber Torres' achy right hamstring came back negative.

The AL East champions entered with a major league-leading 294 homers.

Paxton (15-6) allowed an unearned run while pitching three-hit ball over six innings. The left-hander threw just 87 pitches.

Toronto ended a five-game winning streak, which matched its best of the season.

T.J. Zeuch (1-1) racked up six strikeouts in four innings. He allowed two runs and four hits.

                          WHITE SOX 5, TIGERS 3

DETROIT (AP) - Tim Anderson homered in a three-run fifth inning, and Chicago beat Detroit.

Anderson went 1 for 4, lowering his American League-leading average to .335, but the one hit was a no-doubter of a home run to left field.

Ivan Nova (11-12) allowed two runs and eight hits in five innings for Chicago and three relievers finished. Alex Colome picked up his 29th save in 31 chances.

Detroit (45-109) matched the 1996 Tigers for the second-most losses in franchise history behind 119 in 2003.

Tyler Alexander (1-4) allowed three runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

                          BRAVES 8, GIANTS 1

ATLANTA (AP) - Max Fried strengthened his case for a spot in the postseason rotation by throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings, Francisco Cervilli and Adam Duvall hit two-run homers and Atlanta beat San Francisco.

At 96-60, the Braves will finish with their most wins since 2013. San Francisco dropped to 71-81, ensuring Bruce Bochy will not have a winning record in his 25th and final season as a major league manager.

Each team rested several starters one day after the Braves clinched the NL East title.

Fried (17-6) was pulled after 65 pitches. He allowed five hits with no walks.

Making his third start since Tommy John surgery, right-hander Johnny Cueto (1-1) walked five while giving up four runs and two hits in four innings.

                          RAYS 5, RED SOX 4, 11 INNINGS

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Nate Lowe hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning, and Tampa Bay beat Boston to move one game ahead of Cleveland for the second AL wild card.

Tampa Bay won its third straight game, all in 11 innings.

A day after the defending World Series champion Red Sox were mathematically eliminated, Mitch Moreland put Boston ahead 4-3 with a two-out homer in the 11th off Diego Castillo (5-8).

Travis d'Arnaud doubled off Josh Smith (0-3) in the bottom half, and Lowe sent an opposite-field drive down the left-field line.

Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers also homered for the Red Sox.

                          BREWERS 10, PIRATES 1

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Rookies Keston Hiura and Trent Grisham each hit two-run homers and Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh to increase its edge for the second NL wild-card spot.

The Brewers lead Chicago by three games in the wild-card race after the Cubs lost to St. Louis. Milwaukee remained one game behind Washington for the top wild-card slot.

Milwaukee has won seven of eight and extended its September record to 16-4, tops in the major leagues. The Brewers are 9-2 since losing reigning MVP Christian Yelich to a fractured kneecap.

Brent Suter (3-0) relieved to start the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings for the victory.

James Marvel (0-3) took the loss.

                          NATIONALS 10, MARLINS 4

MIAMI (AP) - Brian Dozier hit a go-ahead RBI single during Washington's six-run 10th inning in a win over Miami.

Dozier's single to left off Miami reliever Jose Urena (4-10) scored Ryan Zimmerman from third. Zimmerman had led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a single by Victor Robles.

The Nationals are atop the NL wild-card race, one game ahead of Milwaukee, which has a three-game lead for the second wild card.

Washington got a pinch-hit, bases-clearing double from Kurt Suzuki in the 10th inning. Adam Eaton had an RBI single and Juan Soto walked with the bases loaded.

Wander Suero (6-8) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win and Tanner Rainey got the final three outs.

Nationals' starter Stephen Strasburg was lifted with a 2-0 lead after seven innings and 109 pitches. Strasburg allowed three hits, struck out six, walked three and hit a batter.

                          PHILLIES 9, INDIANS 4

CLEVELAND (AP) - Bryce Harper connected for a three-run homer and Philadelphia avoided sliding deeper in the NL wild-card standings with a win over Cleveland.

Brad Miller homered twice as the Phillies stayed within five games of Milwaukee for the second wild-card spot.

But it was Harper's 33rd homer in the fifth inning off left-hander Oliver Perez (2-4) that put the Phillies ahead.

Jay Bruce also homered in Philadelphia's four-run rally in the fifth and Jason Vargas (7-8) shook off a rough start to finally get his first win in his 10th outing for the Phillies.

Rookie Oscar Mercado hit a two-run homer for the Indians, who fell one game behind Tampa Bay for the AL's No. 2 wild-card berth. The Rays beat Boston 5-4 in 11 innings.

                          ROYALS 12, TWINS 5

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Closer Taylor Rogers got tagged during a seven-run ninth inning and Minnesota missed a chance to add to its AL Central lead in a loss to Kansas City.

The Twins remained four games ahead of Cleveland, which lost at home to Philadelphia.

Pinch-hitter Cheslor Cuthbert lined a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Rogers (2-4) to begin the Royals' big burst. Rogers gave up three runs on three hits while getting just one out.

Randy Rosario (2-0) retired the only batter he faced out of the Kansas City bullpen as the Royals ended a four-game losing streak.

Ryan O'Hearn homered off Minnesota starter Jose Berrios early and started the ninth with a single. After a sacrifice, Cuthbert connected.

LaMonte Wade Jr. homered and tripled for the Twins, who had won six of eight.

                          MARINERS 7, ORIOLES 6, 13 INNINGS

BALTIMORE (AP) - Mallex Smith scored from second base in the 13th inning after Tim Lopes beat out an infield grounder, and Seattle outlasted Baltimore.

Smith reached with two outs when Tanner Scott (1-1) dropped a short toss while covering first base for an error. Smith stole second, and Lopes followed with a grounder to third baseman Rio Ruiz.

Ruiz took a bit too long to fire to first base, and Lopes beat the throw. Smith, meanwhile, whisked around third and slid home safely ahead of the relay with an unearned run.

Dan Altavilla (2-1) worked the 12th and Erik Swanson got three outs for his second save.

J.P. Crawford homered and drove in four runs for the Mariners, and Shed Long had a solo shot among his three hits and scored three times.

                          DIAMONDBACKS 4, PADRES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Rod Barajas lost his San Diego debut as interim manager, falling to Arizona as former Padres player Abraham Almonte had three hits and scored three runs.

Barajas was promoted from bench coach earlier in the day to replace Andy Green, who was fired because of the Padres' second-half slide. The Padres were 45-45 at the All-Star break but have skidded to 69-86.

The managerial change didn't stop the Padres' skid as they lost for the ninth time in 10 games.

Arizona remained tied with Philadelphia, five games behind Milwaukee for the second NL wild card and also needing to overtake the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. The Diamondbacks have won five of their last seven games after losing six straight.

Taylor Clarke (5-5) pitched three innings for the win, holding San Diego to one run and two hits.

Matt Strahm (5-10) took the loss.

                          ROCKIES 4, DODGERS 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Ryan McMahon and Josh Fuentes hit solo homers, and Colorado defeated Los Angeles to snap a 12-game skid at Dodger Stadium.

It was the Rockies' first win in eight games in Los Angeles this season, and their first here since June 30, 2018.

The NL West champion Dodgers were left sitting on 99 wins while trying to join Houston and the New York Yankees as the major leagues' third 100-game winner for the third straight season.

Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-6) gave up two runs and two hits in five innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Jairo Diaz retired the side in the ninth for his fifth save.

Walker Buehler (13-4) gave up four runs and five hits in six-plus innings. He struck out five and walked three.

                              **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday……

                              13) UCLA 67, Washington State 63:
                              — This amazing game ended at 2:27am here in the east.
                              — With 4:00 left in third quarter, Wazzu led 49-17; UCLA then scored 29 points in the next 7:24
                              — Bruins had a 100-yard kick return and a 69-yard punt return for TD’s.
                              — Both quarterbacks threw for 500+ yards.

                              — UCLA scored 50 points in the second half; Fifty!!!
                              — Coogs turned ball over six times (-5).
                              — Total yardage was 720-657, WSU.
                              — Wazzu QB Gordon threw nine TD passes, and his team still lost.

                              12) Toledo 41, Colorado State 35— At 2:34am, Colorado State’s receiver caught a pass on 2-yard line but was stopped on the 1-yard line as the game ended. Solid late night entertainment this week.

                              11) LSU 66, Vanderbilt 38— The most important new name in college football this season may wind up being Joe Brady, who is LSU’s passing game coordinator and receivers coach.

Brady came to LSU from the New Orleans Saints, where he worked the last two years; he has brought the Tigers’ offense into the 21st century, and he may wind up making QB Joe Burrow a very wealthy young man when the NFL Draft rolls around next April.

Burrow was 25-34/398 yards passing with six TD’s Saturday in Nashville; at one time a few years ago, he was the 3rd-string QB at Ohio State.

                              10) Wisconsin 35, Michigan 14:
                              — Rushing yardage: 359-40, Wisconsin
                              — Wolverines were minus-4 in turnovers, 0-10 on third down
                              — Michigan completed only 17 of 42 passes.

                              Under Jim Harbaugh, Michigan is:
                              — 1-3 in bowl games.
                              — 0-4 vs Ohio State (lost 62-39 LY).
                              — 2-2 vs Wisconsin.
                              — 2-4 vs spread as an underdog.

I’m guessing the natives are restless in Ann Arbor.

                              9) California 28, Ole Miss 20— Rebels got hosed by the replay official, who neglected to call for a replay review of a possible touchdown of their 3rd down play that may/may not have been a TD that could’ve tied the game in the last 0:10. Bad officiating.

Last nine Pac-12-SEC games, the SEC teams are 7-2 vs spread, but both the Pac-12’s covers were by Cal over Ole Miss.

                              8) Appalachian State 34, North Carolina 31— Tar Heels outgained ASU 469-385, but were minus-2 in turnovers— App State scored a defensive TD. UNC is now 2-2, with all four games decided by six or fewer points.

                              7) Upsets of the Week:
                              — San Jose State (+20.5) 31, Arkansas 24
                              — UCLA (+18.5) 67, Washington State 63
                              — Buffalo (+14) 38, Temple 22
                              — Pitt (+12.5) 35, UCF 34
                              — SMU (+9.5) 41, TCU 38

                              6) I-A teams who almost lost to a I-AA team:
                              — Eastern Michigan 34, Central Connecticut 29— EMU blocked a punt for a TD with 0:10 left, avoiding a horrendous loss after they upset Illinois last week.

                              5) Pittsburgh 35, UCF 34— Panthers scored on a “Philly Special” 4th down trick play with 0:56 left to hand the Golden Knights their first loss of the season. UCF had won its previous 27 regular season games; they rallied back from down 21-0 in this game, but couldn’t hang on.

                              4) Washington 45, BYU 19— BYU needs to get into a league; their schedule is stupid:

First 4 games: Utah, @ Tennessee, USC, Washington.
Next 8 games: @ Toledo, @ USF, Boise St, @ Utah St, Liberty, Idaho St, UMass, @ San Diego St.

Not a very well-balanced schedule. Most schools spread out their more attractive games.

                              3) USC 30, Utah 23— Trojans’ 3rd-string QB Matt Fink was 21-30/351 passing; USC has really good receivers, but they’re running out of quarterbacks.

                              2) Nebraska 42, Illinois 38- Illini led 35-21 with 3:00 left in third quarter, but couldn’t hold it.

                              — Total yardage: 671-299, Nebraska
                              — Illinois was +3 in turnovers (4-1).
                              — Illinois completed only 9-24 passes.
                              — Cornhuskers ran ball for 344 yards.

                              1) Scott Frost is the football coach at Nebraska; his brother Steve is the PA announcer at Stanford football games.
