    STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

    STREAKING

Shane Bieber, Cleveland Indians (1-0, 1.80 ERA, $200): It looks like it could be a breakout season for Cleveland’s 23-year old right-hander. Bieber has been almost unhittable in his first three games (two starts) with a 0.67 WHIP and a .196 opponent on base percentage.

However, he faces his first real challenge of the season as the Indians visit the Mariners and their hot bats. Cleveland is currently a -120 favorite with a total sitting at 8.

    SLUMPING

Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles (0-1, 8.76 ERA, $70):
We really are sorry Dylan. We just know he is much more talented than his numbers say. He is a man who just doesn’t want to waste away in Baltimore and his pitching reflects that.

There is no way his opponents should have an OBP of nearly .400 with the stuff he has. Bundy will be in a familiar position tonight, as a big underdog. The O’s are currently +205 road dogs against the Rays with a total of 8.

    3 STRIKES

BLUE BIRDS STARTERS STILL TAKING FLIGHT

The Blue Jays continue to get great starting performances from there starters. Clay Buchholz joined the party last weekend, allowing one run in six innings in his first start against the Rays. Matt Shoemaker pitched another quality start last night against the Twins, and tonight it’s Aaron Sanchez’s turn. Sanchez has a 1.69 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP in his first three starts of the season. The Twins will be a tough challenge, ranking in the top 10 in batting average and OPS. With the Jays continuing to struggle to hit early in games, maybe take a look at the Under in the first five innings here.

      By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) James Paxton struck out 12 in his first stab at baseball's biggest rivalry, Red Sox ace Chris Sale found his fastball but not better results, and the New York Yankees three-hit Boston 8-0 on Tuesday night in the first game this season between the struggling AL East foes.

Paxton (2-2) pitched two-hit ball for eight innings, walking one and going to just two three-ball counts in a game that took only 2 hours, 23 minutes.

Mike Tauchman hit his first major league homer and drove in four runs, and Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres also went deep for the Yankees. New York had dropped five of six and is 7-9 a year after winning 100 games.

Sale (0-4) reached 97.5 mph - a positive sign for Boston after his velocity sagged this spring - but still got hit around, allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked one while the World Series champions dropped to 6-12.

      PHILLIES 14, METS 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Scott Kingery and J.T. Realmuto each had three hits and five RBIs as Philadelphia routed New York.

Kingery and Maikel Franco hit three-run homers and Realmuto had a pair of two-run doubles in a 10-run first inning. Realmuto also went deep for the Phillies in the fourth.

Nick Pivetta (2-1) gave up three runs and seven hits in five innings.

Mets starter Steven Matz (1-1) allowed eight runs - six earned - without retiring a batter. He had allowed only three earned runs total in his first three starts. The lefty's ERA rose from 1.65 to 4.96.

Wilson Ramos and Michael Conforto each hit a solo homer for New York.

      PIRATES 5, TIGERS 3, 10 INNINGS

DETROIT (AP) - Starling Marte hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to lift Pittsburgh over Detroit.

Jung Ho Kang also went deep for Pittsburgh, which blew a 3-0 lead but recovered to win when Marte hit a two-out drive off Shane Greene (0-1). Detroit's closer hadn't allowed a run all season.

Keone Kela (1-0) gave up a tying single by Jeimer Candelario in the ninth, but Nick Kingham was able to close out the Tigers in the 10th for his first career save.

Pittsburgh starter Joe Musgrove permitted his first two earned runs of the season. He yielded six hits and a walk while striking out six in seven innings.

Tigers starter Matthew Boyd struck out the side in the first but eventually allowed three runs in seven innings.

      RAYS 4, ORIOLES 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tyler Glasnow allowed two runs over seven innings in winning his fourth consecutive start to begin the season and Avisail Garcia drove in three runs as Tampa Bay beat Baltimore for its seventh win in eight games.

Glasnow (4-0) allowed hits to six of the first 13 batters, but allowed one hit over his final 4 2/3 innings and ended the outing by retiring 10 in a row.

Garcia hit a two-run homer during a three-run fourth, and added an RBI single in the eighth. Jose Alvarado and Diego Castillo, who earned his second save, each went a perfect inning.

The Orioles got an RBI from both Rio Ruiz and Renato Nunez, and Dylan Bundy (0-2) gave up three runs and three hits over five innings.

      CUBS 4, MARLINS 0

MIAMI (AP) - Jose Quintana gave up six hits in seven innings to lead Chicago over Miami.

Quintana (2-1) struck out seven and extended his scoreless innings streak to 14. He didn't allow a runner to reach second until Austin Dean's two-out double in the seventh.

Javier Baez went 3 for 4 and hit his fifth homer, a solo shot to the opposite field off Adam Conley in the eighth. Baez has three hits in each of his last three games. Ben Zobrist hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth for Chicago's fourth run.

Brandon Kintzler relieved Quintana and surrendered a two-out single to Brian Anderson and walked Starlin Castro. Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless ninth for the Cubs, who have won five of six.

      GIANTS 7, NATIONALS 3

WASHINGTON (AP) - Evan Longoria, Brandon Belt and Steven Duggar homered off fastballs from Stephen Strasburg and light-hitting San Francisco powered past Washington.

The Giants entered the game with 10 homers through their first 17 games. They won for the fourth time in five games.

Strasburg (1-1) allowed four runs in six innings. Still learning to pitch with a fastball that sits in the low-to-mid-90s, instead of the high-90s heat he possessed before Tommy John surgery and other ailments, he's served up five homers over his past two outings.

Dereck Rodriguez (2-2), son of Hall of Famer and former Nationals catcher Ivan ''Pudge'' Rodriguez, gave up one run and five hits in five innings.

      DIAMONDBACKS 9, BRAVES 6

ATLANTA (AP) - Christian Walker homered leading off the ninth inning and Arizona rallied against the shaky Atlanta bullpen. The Braves squandered a massive, knee-buckling homer by Ronald Acuna Jr. and another strong start by Max Fried.

Johan Camargo's three-run double in the fifth put the Braves ahead. Fried finally gave up his first earned runs of the season but left with a 5-2 lead, only to watch the relievers give it away. Chad Sobotka and Jesse Biddle didn't retire anyone as the Diamondbacks pushed across four runs in the seventh to reclaim the lead.

After Ozzie Albies homered in the bottom half to tie the game at 6, Walker drove the second pitch from A.J. Minter (0-2) deep into the seats to start the ninth. Adam Jones brought home two insurance runs with a double that deflected off the glove of Acuna.

Yoshihisa Hirano (1-1) claimed the win. Greg Holland picked up his third save.

Acuna launched a 448-foot shot over the Braves' bullpen in right-center field. Walker went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Eduardo Escobar also drove in two runs.

      BLUE JAYS 6, TWINS 5

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Teoscar Hernandez and Justin Smoak hit two-run singles as Toronto rallied past Minnesota.

Hernandez singled off Twins reliever Trevor Hildenberger in the top of the seventh to give Toronto a 6-4 lead. Hernandez had capitalized against Minnesota's bullpen a day earlier, too, hitting a home run in the eighth inning that gave the Blue Jays a 5-3 win Monday.

The game ended with the Twins' C.J. Cron getting thrown out at home plate. Cron tried to score from first base on a double to left field by Byron Buxton.

Eddie Rosario hit a three-run home run and Jorge Polanco and Marwin Gonzalez also homered for the Twins.

Aaron Sanchez (2-1) allowed four runs in six innings to earn the win for Toronto. Reliever Trevor May (1-1) was charged with the loss for Minnesota.

      BREWERS 8, CARDINALS 4

Lorenzo Cain and Yasmani Grandal each homered in a five-run third against Jack Flaherty (1-1), when the Brewers went up 5-0.

Yelich's 427-foot homer to right center in the fifth inning was his ninth of the season and put Milwaukee up 8-0. He is the first player to homer in six consecutive games against the Cardinals. The Brewers have won nine of their last 10 against St. Louis, including four in a row.

Brandon Woodruff (2-1) held the Cardinals scoreless until Marcell Ozuna's two-run homer, his seventh, with one out in the sixth. Woodruff allowed two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out six.

The Cardinals added two in the eighth on RBI singles by Yadier Molina and Kolten Wong.

      RANGERS 5, ANGELS 0

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Mike Minor threw a three-hitter for his first career shutout, backed by two-run homers by Joey Gallo and Asdrubal Cabrera, as Texas beat Los Angeles.

Minor (2-1) limited Los Angeles to three singles while throwing 103 pitches with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Cabrera put Texas up 3-0 when his deep fly appeared to ricochet of the wrist of leaping right fielder Kole Calhoun and go over the 8-foot wall in the fourth off Jaime Barria (1-1).

Gallo pulled a 439-foot shot that landed on the concourse beyond the lower-level seats to greet reliever Dillon Peters in the sixth and make it 5-0.

It was the sixth homer of the season for both Gallo and Cabrera.

      WHITE SOX 5, ROYALS 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Yoan Moncada hit a pair of solo shots for his first multihomer game and Leury Garcia added a two-run drive to power Chicago past Kansas City.

Yonder Alonso also homered and went 4 for 4 as the White Sox won for the fourth time in five games.

Reynaldo Lopez (1-2) allowed one run and five hits in six innings. Four relievers worked the final three innings for Chicago.

Lucas Duda homered for the Royals.

Kansas City starter Jorge Lopez (0-2) had a career-high 10 strikeouts but gave up three homers and allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings.

      ROCKIES 8, PADRES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game - a two-run shot on his 28th birthday - and Jon Gray pitched seven strong innings as Colorado beat San Diego for a two-game sweep and its first three-game winning streak of the season.

Gray (1-3) allowed a home run in an NL-record 16th straight game when Wil Myers connected leading off the fifth, but otherwise tamed the Padres, who have lost three straight for the first time this season. Gray improved to 9-3 lifetime against San Diego by holding the Padres to one run and three hits while striking out five and walking three.

Rookie Garrett Hampson hit his first career-homer and Raimel Tapia had a two-run triple for the Rockies.

Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI double in the second and Tapia a two-run triple in the third. Trevor Story had a career-high three stolen bases.

          • Wednesday’s 6-pack

            — There have been 210 NHL playoff series where a team led 3 games to 0:

            — Team leading 3-0 was 128-82 in Game 4 (now 130-82).

            — Team leading 3-1 was 59-23 in Game 5

            — Team leading 3-2 was 14-9 in Game 6.

            — Team that led 3-0 was 5-7 in Game 7.

            — Columbus/Islanders were underdogs that led series 3-0 this week.

            Quote of the Day
“If you can’t hit the fastball, I can’t help you.”
Unnamed hitting coach to Nomar Garciaparra, many years ago. He told the story on the air during the Dodger game last night.

            Wednesday’s quiz
When Gerald Ford became President in 1974, who was his Vice President?

            Tuesday’s quiz
Terry Francona has managed the Phillies, Red Sox and Indians.

            Monday’s quiz
Russell Wilson played college football for NC State and Wisconsin.

            ***************************

            Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

            13) 4:50am late Monday night/early Tuesday morning, my phone starts beeping; figured some other terrible thing must’ve happened in the world, but instead they announced that Russell Wilson signed a 4-year, $140M extension with the Seahawks.

            At 4:50am, 1:50am in Seattle.

I’m guessing they could’ve waited a couple of more hours to announce it, but no……

            12) Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes was asked directly if he would have left for UCLA if the Bruins had covered his $8M buyout: “I think I would have been the coach at UCLA.”

Why would he say that now, if he was happy in Knoxville? Once he turned down the UCLA job, why would he talk about it again?

            11) Baseball injuries:
            — Tampa Bay Rays’ ace Blake Snell (toe) goes on the IL- Apparently a granite pole fell on his foot in his bathroom at home. Seriously.
            — Brewers put P Freddy Peralta (shoulder) on the IL.

            10) When Golden State led the Clippers by 31 points Monday night, some courageous (or drunk) person in Las Vegas wagered $50 on the Clippers to win the game SU, at 100-1 odds. He/she collected $5,000 when the Clippers won, which buys a lot of alcohol.

            9) As of Tuesday at 2pm, there were 683 college basketball players in the transfer portal; with 353 D-I college basketball teams, that works out to 1.93 players per team, and it is a big part of what is hurting the quality of play in college basketball.

There is so little continuity from year to year; look at Nevada, which just hired Steve Alford to replace Eric Musselman. Right now, Nevada has zero players who will be eligible to play when the season starts in November. Not one. None. Bupkis.

            8) In 2013, Aaron Rodgers signed a deal that pays him $23M a year, and ate up 17.9% of the Packers’ salary cap. In 2019, Seattle just signed Russell Wilson to a $35M a year contract that will eat up 18.7% of the Seahawks’ salary cap.

            7) Phillies 14, Mets 3— Phillies scored eight runs in this game before they made an out; Mets made four errors in first inning. This was only 2nd time ever the Mets allowed 10+ runs in the first inning, other time coming in July 1988.

Steven Matz is first MLB pitcher since Paul Wilson in 2005 to allow eight runs without getting anyone out, although the shortstop did make two errors behind him.

If you like to plan ahead, baseball’s 2026 All-Star Game will be held in Philadelphia, to help commemorate our country’s 250th birthday.

            6) New York 8, Boston 0— Chris Sale is now 0-4, 8.50 this season; Boston is paying him $15M this year, then $164M more from 2020-25.

Red Sox found a scapegoat for their 6-11 start when they DFA’d catcher Blake Swihart Tuesday afternoon, and brought Sandy Leon back to the majors.

            5) Cardinals’ 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit his 7th home run Monday night; he hit 7th home run last year on May 30. St Louis has a very potent lineup.

            4) Columbus Blue Jackets have been in NHL for 19 years, had never won a playoff series, until they beat Tampa Bay 7-3 last night and swept the Lightning. Tampa Bay had 30 more points than the Blue Jackets this season, had the NHL’s best record.

This is a big reason why the NHL playoffs are better than the NBA’s version; #8-seeds can and often do win playoff series. Hardly ever happens in the NBA.

            3) Temple/USC will start a home/home basketball series this fall, with the Owls visiting the Galen Center this year, with the Trojans coming to Philly in the fall of 2020.

USC poached grad transfer Daniel Otumi away from the Akron Zips; Otumi averaged 14.2 ppg LY and shot 37% behind the arc.

            2) Most baseball strategy is fairly cut/dry, but one gray area that gets people’s blood boiling is when a game is tied going to bottom of 8th or 9th inning; does the visiting team use its closer with the game tied to keep the game alive, and then use a lesser pitcher to close the game if they get the lead later on, or do they hold the closer back for when they (hopefully) get the lead?

It is an interesting question; pitchers are so pampered these days, managers more and more see the big picture instead of just today’s game.

We’re a long way from 1980, when the A’s had there different starting pitchers throw 14-inning complete games, because the Oakland relievers back then weren’t very good.

            1) NFL Draft is a week from tomorrow; I’m tired of mock drafts, which are nothing but fake news that we learn nothing from. The draft is a fascinating process, but having media people guess multiple times at what is going to happen is simply a waste of time.

NO ONE KNOWS what is going to happen; thats why it is so interesting.

            • LEADING OFF: Cards decked by Yelich, Snell hurts toe at home
              April 17, 2019
              By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:

              DECKED!

Michael Wacha and the Cardinals will try to figure out a way to finally get Christian Yelich out. The reigning NL MVP has eight homers against St. Louis already this season, including three on Monday and a three-run shot Tuesday. Yelich is the first player to homer in six consecutive games versus the Cardinals. ''It's almost like he's psychic,'' St. Louis manager Mike Shildt said this week. Heading into the series finale, the Brewers have won nine of their last 10 against the Cardinals, including four in a row. Wacha allowed three homers over 3 2/3 innings in his last start but is 5-0 in 12 career games against Milwaukee. Yelich has 14 homers in 22 games vs. St. Louis since joining the Brewers last season - 12 of them in 16 meetings at Miller Park.

              MISHAP AT HOME

Blake Snell, the 2018 AL Cy Young Award winner, thinks he might miss just one start after breaking a toe on his right foot at home Sunday night. Tampa Bay's ace left-hander got hurt when he stepped out of the shower and then attempted to move a large granite item. He said it was a ''really dumb'' move. ''It's like a three-piece set and this pole that comes up like 2 1/2, 3 feet. Went to move it, I lifted it up and it wasn't glued to the pole and the pole came crushing down,'' Snell explained. Snell is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in four starts this season. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday and is eligible to return April 24.

              HELP WANTED

Cincinnati right-hander Sonny Gray, who grew up rooting for the Reds, looks to avoid the bad luck that's plagued his first three starts for them when he takes the mound at Dodger Stadium. Gray has a 2.03 ERA but is 0-2. The Reds were shut out in his first two outings, and in his most recent start, he took a line drive off his left calf and lasted only four innings. Walker Buehler (1-0, 8.25) starts for Los Angeles in the finale of a three-game series that marked Yasiel Puig's return to LA.

              COMING UP EMPTY

He's not quite in Chris Davis territory yet, but Daniel Palka is really struggling. Palka, who led the White Sox with 27 homers as a rookie last season, is hitless in 32 at-bats this year. He is 0 for 34 dating to 2018, the longest current skid for a major league position player.

              BIRD DOGGED

Greg Bird is back on the injured list for the banged-up Yankees, and that means more opportunities at first base for breakout slugger Luke Voit. Bird has a left plantar fascia tear, and manager Aaron Boone expects the left-handed hitter will miss at least a month. It's the fourth straight year Bird has been injured early in the season, including when he missed all of 2016 following shoulder surgery. He has never played more than 82 major league games in a year. New York (7-9) goes for a two-game sweep of the rival Red Sox (6-12) after James Paxton's dominant outing in an 8-0 rout Tuesday night. J.A. Happ (0-2, 8.76 ERA) faces Boston righty Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 8.40).

              STILL SEARCHING

Matt Harvey (0-1, 10.05 ERA) is looking for his first win with the Angels. The former Mets ace, who spent most of last season with Cincinnati, makes his fourth start for Los Angeles in the finale of a three-game series at Texas. Harvey has already faced the Rangers once this year, allowing eight runs and 10 hits over four innings April 4 in losing his home debut with the Angels, who won the other two games the right-hander has started. He gave up six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings against Milwaukee during his last start, also at home.

                        Boston Common

The Boston Red Sox have looked very ordinary so far this season, and no one expected even 18 regular-season games that they would be dead-last in the majors with a minus-40 run differential. They were scorched by the New York Yankees by an 8-0 score in Tuesday's series opener, and they have just one run over the past two games. The 'under' has connected in three in a row for Boston, and the under is 4-1 in their past five against teams with a losing record, and 4-0 in their past four road games against teams with a losing overall home mark, too. With Nathan Eovaldi on the mound, though, that could turn around. The over is 6-0-1 in his past seven starts, and 4-0 in his past four on the road while going 3-0-1 in his past four games inside the division.

For the Yankees, they too have struggled, and are below .500 midway through April. They were expected to battle the Red Sox in the standings, but not to avoid the basement in the American League East. The under is 6-1 in the past seven home starts for the Yankees, while going 4-1 in their past five games against teams with a winning percentage under .400. Like Eovaldi, the over has been a common 'Happ'-ening for JA Happ. The over is 6-0 across his past six starts, and 5-0 in his past five outings against divisional foes. The over is also 5-1 in Happ's past six hoe outings, and 7-0-1 in his past eight against teams with a losing overall record. The over is also 7-3 in the past 10 meetings between these AL East rivals.

                        Looking Ahead

                        Wednesday, April 17

The Giants and Nationals do battle in the nation's capital at 7:05 p.m. ET. The under is 6-1-1 in San Francisco's past eight games against National League East foes, while going 4-1-1 in their past six games overall. The undeer is also 4-1 in Jeff Samardzija's past five starts overall. The over is 5-0 in Washington's past five against teams with a losing record, and 16-6 in their past 22 overall. The over is also 24-9-1 in the past 34 games at home. However, the under is a whopping 16-3 in Jeremy Hellickson's past 19 starts overall, 4-1 in his past five home starts and 4-0 in his past four against teams with a losing overall mark.

The Astros and Athletics continue their battle in Oakland. The under is 8-3 in Houston's past 11 on the road, while going 5-2 in the past seven road outings against a team with a winning home mark. The over is a perfect 8-0 in the past eight overall for Oakland, and 4-0 in the past four against divisional foes. However, the under is 7-3 in the past 10 at home for the A's, and 4-1 in Frankie Montas' past five outings while going 4-1 in his past five inside the division, too. The over is 15-5-1 in the past 21 meetings in this series in Oakland.

                        Wind Report

The wind won't be a factor in many parks, although the winds will affect the Giants and Nationals. We'll have breezy conditions knocking balls down, as a wind blows 10-13 mph from right field into the face of the batters. If the game in Minneapolis gets underway with a 70 percent chance of rain from 6-9 pm CDT, the batters will be facing stiff wind from 12-15 mph blowing in from the left-center field power alley. In Texas, the wind will also be blowing in from 13-16 mph, keeping totals down.

                        Thursday, April 18

Hey, for what it's worth (not much), the under is 7-0 in the past seven for the Reds on a Thursday. More importantly, the under is 9-1-1 in their past 11 games against pitchers with a WHIP of 1.15 or less. The under is also 21-6 in their past 27 games on the road, while going 17-5 in their past 22 road games against a teams with a winning record. For the Padres, they like going low on Thursdays, too, going 24-9-1 in their past 34 on the day. The under is 7-3 in their past 10 home games heading into Wednesday. However, in this series, the over is 10-1 in the past 11 meetings, and 4-1-1 in the past six battles at Petco Park.

The Mariners have RHP Felix Hernandez on the bump, and he is opposed by RHP Chris Stratton. The over is 8-3-1 in the past 12 overall for the M's, and 7-3-1 in their past 11 games against right-handed starting pitchers. In addition, the over is 4-1 in King Felix's past five road outings, and 6-2 in his past eight against AL West foes. For the Halos , they entered Wednesday's game with a 16-5-1 mark in their past 22 games, and 9-4 in the past 13 vs. RHP. In addition, tue under is 7-2 in Hernandez's past nine road outings against the Angels, and 15-6-1 in his past 22 overall against the Halos.

                        Wind Report

For the afternoon game between the Diamondbacks and Braves, there will be a 10-13 mph wind blowing in from center field to home plate. The winds will be blowing out moderately for the Giants-Nationals at 9-12 mph. In Detroit, the White Sox-Tigers game will see rain in the forecast starting right around first pitch. If they do get underway, the winds will be gusting in from 17-20 mph, keeping totals down. Winds will be blowing left to right at Target Field for Jays-Twins, a steady 13 mph wind. For Phillies-Rockies, the winds will be gusting early on from the left-center field power alley to home plate, decreasing as the game progresses.

                          STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

                          STREAKING

Trevor Williams, RHP Pittsburgh Pirates (1-0, 2.45 ERA, $394)
: Williams is off to a strong start to 2019, despite the lone win on his 2019 resume. The right hander has an ERA south of 2.50 through is first three appearances – all three qualifying as quality starts – and helped the Bucs cash as +174 underdogs at Washington in his last outing.

                          SLUMPING

Matt Harvey, RHP Los Angeles Angels (0-1, 10.05 ERA, $72)
: Harvey was bailed out in his most recent effort, allowing six runs on seven hits through just 4 1-3 innings but the Halos put 11 runs on the board to clean up the righty’s mess. Over his last two starts, Harvey has given up 14 runs on 8 1-3 innings with eight of those coming against the Texas Rangers – today’s opponent.

                          3 STRIKES

                          EARLY RISERS

The Tampa Bay Rays have produced early action in the bulk of their games to start the 2019 MLB season. Tampa Bay has scored or allowed at least one first-inning run in 13 of its first 17 games so far. The Rays have been the first to strike on the scoreboard in 10 of those contests, while opponents have had success plating a run in the opening frame in four games, including Tuesday’s 4-2 win over Baltimore in which the Orioles opened scoring on a single from Rio Ruiz in the first. Baseball bettors should take a look at first-inning props and totals.

                          HOME RUN HAPP

Veteran southpaw J.A. Happ has a new home in the Bronx but the change in venue hasn’t helped in terms of keeping the ball in the park. Happ has allowed at least one home run in each of his three starts to begin 2019, and if you go back to last season, he’s served up dingers in six straight appearances. In fact, the left hander has allowed a total of 18 home runs in his las t 18 outings, going back to June 20 of last year. FanDuel has Red Sox sluggers J.D Martinez and Mookie Betts priced at +230 and +320 to hit a home run Wednesday, respectively.

                          OOOOOOOO-VERS IN OAKLAND

The Oakland Athletics have been a favorite of Over bettors in the past couple weeks, topping the total in eight straight games heading into tonight’s contest with the Houston Astros (more on that above). Oakland kicked off the schedule as one of the hottest Under plays in baseball, playing Over the number in the season opener then proceeded to finish Under in seven straight games. However, with an abundance of offense – 5.18 runs per game – and a dipping defense – 4.63 ERA – the Over results are bubbling to the top. Tonight’s total is set at nine runs.
