  • Freeman, Toussaint help Braves beat Cardinals 7-3
    September 19, 2018
    By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) Luke Voit hit two homers off David Price, Miguel Andujar popped another one barely into the right-field seats and the New York Yankees stalled Boston's division-clinching celebration by beating the Red Sox 10-1 on Wednesday night.

Luis Severino (18-8) pitched seven innings of one-run ball, and the Yankees had no need for All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman on the day they activated him from the disabled list. Chapman had been out since Aug. 21 with left knee tendinitis.

Mookie Betts had two strikeouts and no hits in his return to Boston's lineup. He pulled a possible grand slam just foul in the ninth before grounding into a game-ending double play. The AL MVP contender sat out Tuesday after injuring his left side two days earlier, but came back to bat leadoff as the designated hitter.

The Yankees will try to send Boston packing Thursday with the AL East still undecided. The Red Sox lead the division by 9 1/2 games and entered this three-game series needing one victory to lock up the division. New York maintained a 2 1/2-game lead over Oakland for the top AL wild card.

Price (15-7) surrendered three homers this time, each aided by Yankee Stadium's short right-field porch. Andujar hit his 25th just over the wall for a 1-0 lead in the second, and Voit added solo shots in the fourth and sixth to nearly the same spot.

    INDIANS 4, WHITE SOX 1

CLEVELAND (AP) - Jason Kipnis hit a grand slam with one out in the ninth inning and Cleveland beat Chicago.

Kipnis hit a 3-2 pitch from Ian Hamilton into the right field seats for his 1,000th career hit and was doused with buckets of water by his teammates as he conducted a postgame television interview.

The AL Central champions were held to two hits through eight innings before their comeback.

Josh Donaldson started the inning with an infield hit. Pitcher Juan Minaya fielded the ball that rolled about 30 feet up the third base line, but Donaldson beat the throw to first. Pinch-hitter Yandy Diaz bounced a single through the left side that moved pinch-runner Rajai Davis to second.

Melky Cabrera popped up a bunt attempt to the mound that was caught by reliever Caleb Frare (0-1).

Hamilton replaced Frare, but hit Yan Gomes with the first pitch to load the bases.

Oliver Perez (1-1) got the final out in the ninth for the Indians.

Daniel Palka homered for the White Sox.

    PHILLIES 4, METS 0

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Rhys Hoskins became the seventh-fastest player to hit 50 career home runs and Philadelphia beat New York to keep pace in the NL East race.

Zach Eflin and five relievers combined on a six-hitter and Odubel Herrera added two-run homer for the Phillies. They won consecutive series for the first time since July 25 and stayed 5 1/2 games behind division-leading Atlanta.

Seven of Philadelphia's final 11 games are against the Braves, including a four-game series beginning Thursday night in Atlanta.

Hoskins' opposite-field solo shot against Noah Syndergaard (12-4) in the first inning was his 32nd homer of the season and 50th in 192 career games. Only Rudy York (153), Mark McGwire (161), Gary Sanchez (161), Ryan Braun (171), Aaron Judge (174) and former Phillies slugger Ryan Howard (182) reached 50 quicker, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The 25-year-old Hoskins later added his 35th double, and Jose Bautista had a pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth off Jerry Blevins. Eflin (11-7) struck out nine and allowed three hits in five innings. Luis Avilan, Victor Arano and Adam Morgan each went one inning.

    BRAVES 7, CARDINALS 3

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, Touki Toussaint pitched into the sixth inning and NL East-leading Atlanta beat St. Louis to snap a four-game skid.

The Braves have a magic number of six over Philadelphia to clinch their first division title since 2013. St. Louis, which had won three straight, began the day leading Colorado by 1 1/2 games for the second wild card.

Closer A.J. Minter, working in a non-save situation in the ninth, walked two to load the bases, but he struck out Jose Martinez and got Paul DeJong to pop up.

Freeman's 23rd homer, an opposite-field shot to left-center, put the Braves up 2-0 in the fourth against Jack Flaherty (8-8). Toussaint (2-1) allowed five hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings.

    DIAMONDBACKS 9, CUBS 0

PHOENIX (AP) - Christian Walker and Chris Owings homered off Cole Hamels, and Robbie Ray held Chicago Cubs to one hit over six innings in Arizona's victory.

Walker and Owings were part of a Diamondbacks lineup that featured only two regulars in the field - Nick Ahmed and Ketel Marte. The group did most of its damage against Hamels (9-10), who had yet to lose a start since joining the Cubs via trade from Texas on July 27.

Ray (6-2) struck out eight and walked four. Walker and Owings drove in three runs each.

Jeff Mathis added a two-run home run off Allen Webster.

The Cubs' NL Central lead dropped to 2 1/2 games over Milwaukee.

    BREWERS 7, REDS 0

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Gio Gonzalez pitched six smooth innings on his 33rd birthday and Jesus Aguilar hit a three-run homer in Milwaukee's victory over Cincinnati.

Manny Pina also had a three-run shot and Aguilar finished with four RBIs. They helped the Brewers boost their lead for the top NL wild card to three games over St. Louis.

Gonzalez (9-11) was acquired in a trade with Washington on Aug. 31 in an effort to bolster the Brewers' starting rotation. The left-hander has picked up a victory in two of his three starts with Milwaukee, and the Brewers have won all three games.

Reds right-hander Matt Harvey (7-9), a pitcher the Brewers nearly acquired a few weeks ago before a proposed deal fell through, gave up Aguilar's game-changing home run.

    MARINERS 9, ASTROS 0

HOUSTON (AP) - Robinson Cano drove in three runs, Kyle Seager, Mitch Haniger and Guillermo Heredia homered and seven pitchers combined for a five-hitter in Seattle's victory over Houston.

The Mariners took two of three in the series from AL West-leading Houston.

Rookie Matt Festa made his first career start on a bullpen day for the Mariners and threw a perfect first inning before Casey Lawrence (1-0) took over and allowed one hit in three innings. Adam Warren, Shawn Armstrong, Zach Duke, Justin Grimm and Roenis Elias pitched an inning each to close it out.

Dallas Keuchel (11-11) was the loser.

    RAYS 9, RANGERS 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Tommy Pham homered twice and extended his on-base streak to 21 games and late-surging Tampa Bay completed a three-game sweep of Texas.

The Rays have won 14 of 17 games in September. They have 11 remaining and remained 5 1/2 games behind Oakland for the American League's second wild card.

Adrian Beltre hit his 13th homer for the last-place Rangers. It was the 475th of his career to match Stan Musial and Willie Stargell for 30th on the career lost. He's 15th with 3,159 hits.

Ryan Yarbrough (15-5), the second of five Tampa Bay pitchers, went four innings for the win.

Jake Bauers had a two-run single and scored on Willy Adames' single in the second off lefty Yohander Mendez (2-2) to put the Rays ahead to stay at 3-0. Pham hit his 18th homer leading off the third, and Matt Duffy's two-run double in the fourth made it 8-1.

Pham went deep again in the eighth for his seventh career multihomer game. The homer was off 45-year-old Bartolo Colon, who was pitching in relief for the first time since his last start Sept. 5.

    TWINS 8, TIGERS 2

DETROIT (AP) - Stephen Gonsalves threw six scoreless innings, and Minnesota pounded Detroit's pitching.

Gabriel Moya started for Minnesota, but was replaced by Gonsalves in the second inning, marking the sixth time this season the Twins used an ''opening pitcher.'' Gonsalves (1-2) allowed one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Ehire Adrianza was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Tyler Austin was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Willians Astudillo was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Twins, who swept the three-game series against the Tigers. Spencer Turnbull (0-1) made his first major league start, allowing six runs and six hits and a walk in four innings.

    PIRATES 2, ROYALS 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Chris Archer pitched seven strong innings, and Pittsburgh beat Kansas City to complete a three-game sweep.

Archer (5-8) allowed one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. The Pirates remain marooned in fourth place in the NL Central despite a five-game winning streak.

Felipe Vazquez allowed a walk in the ninth en route to his 35th save.

Adam Frazier broke a 1-1 tie with a homer to right-center with two outs in the fifth inning off rookie right-hander Heath Fillmyer (3-2). Adalberto Mondesi homered for Kansas City.

    ORIOLES 2, BLUE JAYS 1

BALTIMORE (AP) - Rookie DJ Stewart hit his first major league home run and Baltimore used five pitchers to beat Toronto.

The Orioles bounced back a night after their 108th loss of the season, the most since moving to Baltimore in 1954. They remained three away from the franchise mark set by the 1939 St. Louis Browns.

Jimmy Yacabonis started for Baltimore and threw four scoreless innings, followed by Mike Wright (4-2), who blanked the Blue Jays over two innings. Miguel Castro allowed a solo homer to Billy McKinney in the eighth that cut the lead to 2-1 before Tanner Scott managed the final out of the inning. Mychal Givens finished for the save. Marco Estrada (7-13) was the loser.

    PADRES 8, GIANTS 4

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Wil Myers and Freddy Galvis homered, Robbie Erlin pitched five solid innings and San Diego beat San Francisco.

Myers' two-run homer highlighted a five-run second inning. Galvis added a three-run shot in the eighth as San Diego won for the second time in 10 meetings against San Francisco.

Erlin (4-7) beat the Giants for the first time and snapped a career-high four-start losing streak.

Rookie Armies Garcia homored for the Giants. Chris Stratton (10-9) too the loss.

Thursday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but……

      13) Oakland Raiders’ starters have an average age of 29.13, oldest NFL lineup since the 2010 Redskins- is Jon Gruden this generation’s George Allen?

Oldest NFL lineup since 2000? The ’04 Buccaneers (29.9), also coached by Jon Gruden.

If you don’t know, George Allen coached Rams/Redskins in 60’s/70’s; he won a ton of games, is in the Hall of Fame— his approach was to trade just about all his draft picks for veteran players. His teams were really, really “experienced”

Allen’s career record was 118-54-5; his ’72 Redskins were NFC champs, losing 14-7 to Miami’s undefeated Dolphins in the Super Bowl that year.

      12) Youngest Week 1 lineups in NFL:
      Browns-Bengals-Vikings-Cowboys.

      Oldest: Raiders-Patriots-Falcons-Cardinals

      11) College with most players on Week 1 NFL rosters:
      44- Alabama
      40- LSU
      37- Florida
      36- Miami, Fla, Ohio State
      33- Florida State

      10) Westgate Super Contest in Las Vegas, with a $1,500 buy-in, pays off the top 100 finishers. 2,712 people are in this year’s contest.

Winner is going to get $1,422,214.20, runner-up $517,168.80.

      Places #81-100 each collect $2,154.87.

      9) Russell Wilson is first NFL QB to be sacked 6+ times in each of his first two games of a season since Detroit’s Joey Harrington, in 2007.

      8) Random political opinion; I don’t think people over the age of 80 should be serving in Congress. They should be relaxing with their grandkids, or playing golf.

      7) Genius of the Day award: Lynn Redden, superintendent of the Onalaska Independent School District in Texas, writing on Facebook about Texans’ QB Deshaun Watson’s play Sunday:

“That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I’ve seen in the NFL. When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback.”

This guy is the superintendent of a school district. Oy.

      6) Alabama has scored 14 TD’s on 20 drives this season when starting QB Tua Tagovailoa has been in the game.

      5) Mike Trout’s on-base percentage in his career:
      2012: .399 2013: .432 2014: .377
      2015: .402 2016: .441 2017: .442
      2018: .463

      4) New Word Alert: Quisling— a traitor who collaborates with an enemy force.

First heard of this word last year while watching the great Showtime series, Billions. Lot of people on these series stab each other in the back. If you watch enough of these cable series, you’ll never trust anyone the rest of your life…..lol

      3) From ESPN.com: A gem mint version of a 1980 Larry Bird-Magic Johnson Topps rookie card had a winning bid of $125,200 on eBay on Wednesday night.

Must be nice to be wealthy enough to pay $125K for a basketball card.

      2) Dodgers 5, Rockies 2— Brutal week for Colorado; they’re 2.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West, 1.5 games out of the second Wild Card slot.

      1) A’s 10, Angels 0— Much-needed win for the Oaklanders, who are 5.5 games up on Tampa Bay in the Wild Card race; A’s magic number to clinch is 6.

        • LEADING OFF: Yanks defend turf, Phillies-Braves, Scherzer up
          September 20, 2018
          By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Thursday:

          BUBBLY ON ICE

For the third night in a row, the Red Sox attempt to clinch the AL East championship at Yankee Stadium. Boston entered the three-game set needing one victory over rival New York to secure its third consecutive division crown. But the Yankees have put the party on hold with two wins, including a 10-1 rout Wednesday night. Eduardo Rodriguez (12-4, 3.53 ERA) pitches the series finale for the Red Sox against Masahiro Tanaka (12-5, 3.47), who has a 2.09 ERA in 10 starts since the All-Star break. Rodriguez has allowed one run or fewer in five of his past six starts. New York has 245 home runs this season, matching the franchise record set in 2012.

          NOW OR NEVER

Trailing the first-place Braves by 5+ games in the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies begin a four-game series at Atlanta. In fact, seven of Philadelphia's final 11 games are against the Braves, so the Phillies still feel they have a realistic chance to catch up. ''We're in a pretty unique, exciting position that doesn't happen that often,'' slugger Rhys Hoskins said. ''It's going to be a fun, really, really competitive, really, really intense series.'' Vince Velasquez (9-11, 4.26 ERA) pitches the opener for Philadelphia against Kevin Gausman (10-10, 3.92), who is 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four starts at SunTrust Park. Velasquez is 1-3 with a 7.52 ERA in his past seven starts. Atlanta's magic number is six over the Phillies to clinch its first division title since 2013.

          FOR THE PRIZE

Seeking his third straight NL Cy Young Award, Max Scherzer (17-7, 2.53 ERA) is on the mound when the Washington Nationals host the Mets. That means his main competition, New York ace Jacob deGrom, will be watching from the opposing dugout.

          ON A ROLL

Time is running out for the late-surging Rays, but they keep on winning. Tampa Bay goes for its sixth consecutive victory when the team opens its final road series of the season with the first of four games at Toronto. The surprising Rays (85-66) have won 14 of 17 in September and trail Oakland by 5+ games for the second AL wild card with 11 remaining. Tampa Bay's record would be good for at least a share of first place in three of the six divisions, yet the Rays are third in the AL East behind the Red Sox and Yankees. Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio is 1-8 since July 20 and has lost both his games against Tampa Bay this season.

                      Friday’s List of 13: A Baker’s dozen interesting things…….

                      13) Browns 21, Jets 17— This rematch of the first-ever Monday Night Football game in 1970 gave us an awful lot to think about.

                      — This game was awful, a total dud, until Tyrod Taylor got hurt in the 2nd quarter, with Jets leading 14-0. Rookie Baker Mayfield made his NFL debut, and he sparked the Browns to this win- who does he remind me of? I’ll get back to you on this.
                      — You could hear it in Troy Aikman’s voice how excited he was to see Mayfield play; you could read the Browns players’ body language- they were excited, too.
                      — Cleveland and the Jets are BOTH vastly improved; this was the Browns’ night, but Sam Darnold will be a good player, in time.
                      — Lot of free beer was given out in Cleveland Thursday; hope everyone was safe.
                      — After the game, Hue Jackson wouldn’t commit to Mayfield being the starter going forward. If I owned the Browns, I’d make that decision for Jackson. Then again, if I owned the Browns, Hue Jackson wouldn’t be the coach.

                      12) Cleveland Browns as a favorite last 3+ years
                      2018: -3 vs NJ Jets: W21-17
                      2017: -1.5 @ Colts L28-31
                      2017: -1 vs NJ Jets L14-17
                      2015: -4 vs Ravens L27-33
                      2015: -1.5 vs 49ers: W24-10

                      11) Browns sideline reporter Nathan Zegura was banned from the team’s radio broadcasts for eight games, after he yelled at an NFL official over a call during Sunday’s loss to the Saints in the Superdome. He was also banned from his weekday radio show for two weeks, and won’t return to the radio station’s pre-game or post-game shows.

                      10) Each NFL teams has 10 players on their practice squad, so thats 320 players- out of those 320 guys, 141 of them weren’t drafted, so 44% of practice squad guys were overlooked in the draft, which gives lot of obscure players hope.

                      9) So far this season, in two games:

Saints’ WR Mike Thomas: 28 catches, 269 yards, 3 TDs
All the Buffalo Bills: 29 catches, 343 yards, 1 TD

                      8) Roughing the passer penalty called on Green Bay’s Clay Matthews with 1:37 left in regulation Sunday was a terrible call; it negated the game-clinching INT by Green Bay. Minnesota went on to tie the game, and the game ended that way, so it cost the Packers a half-game in standings.

But think about it, Minnesota missed two FG’s in the OT, and they changed kickers during this week, so that call also cost the Vikings’ kicker his job.

                      7) Watching Aaron Rodgers in that game, I was reminded of when we first went out to bars to watch out-of-town NFL games on the satellite dish, back 25-30 years ago. Was worth the time and effort, just to watch Barry Sanders run with the ball— feel the same way about Rodgers now.

                      6) Baltimore Ravens have won their last 14 exhibition games; now we might know why; they were just fined $200,000 by the NFL for having multiple players wearing hearing devices in their helmets during preseason games- only one is allowed on the field at any time.

Ravens, like all guilty parties, threw their hands up and said “We didn’t know!!!” that the rule pertained to the preseason too. Uh-huh.

                      5) If Alabama was playing in the national title game this weekend, the spreads vs various opponents would be:

                      — Alabama -9.5 vs Ohio State
                      — Alabama -10.5 vs Georgia
                      — Alabama -11.5 vs Clemson
                      — Alabama -14.5 vs Oklahoma

                      4) Mets shut down P Zach Wheeler for his last two starts; Wheeler threw 182.1 IP this year, compared to 86.1 last year- he didn’t pitch anywhere in 2015-16, but did throw 185.1 innings in 2014 (after 100 IP in ’13). They’re erring on the side of caution.

                      3) You can bet on almost anything, its actually fun to figure this stuff out:

How many missed extra points will there be in Week 3 of the NFL?
                      over 4, -$135
                      under 4, -$105

                      2) Angels’ catcher Francisco Arcia is the first player EVER to pitch, catch and hit a home run in the same game. He mopped up on the mound in the Halos’ 21-3 loss to Oakland Thursday.

                      1) Major League Baseball needs to scrap its blackout policy; do you know they rarely show Dodger games on TV in Las Vegas casinos, because of those stupid rules?

I was in the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas back in May; there were probably a hundred people left in the book, and the Dodger game was the last game going— they could have had in-game wagering, but the game couldn’t be shown, so the screens had nothing live going on, since it was off-night for any NBA/NHL playoff action.

So instead of a hundred people hanging around, wagering/talking/thinking about baseball, or the very least, watching it, everyone scattered to other parts of the casino or home or up to their rooms. How does that help baseball?

Expose your product to as many people as possible!!!! Thats how to grow your business.

                      • LEADING OFF: Trevor Bauer back on bump for Cleveland
                        September 21, 2018
                        By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Friday:

                        BACK ON THE BUMP

Trevor Bauer returns to the mound for AL Central champion Cleveland when the Indians host Boston in a potential playoff preview. Bauer has been sidelined with a broken right leg since he was struck by a line drive off the bat of White Sox slugger Jose Abreu on Aug. 11. The right-hander was diagnosed with a stress fracture of his fibula. Indians manager Terry Francona said Bauer will go a ''couple of innings'' and then throw in the bullpen to increase his pitch count. He will be relieved by rookie Shane Bieber. Francona wants Bauer to make two additional starts during the regular season and be in the playoff rotation. Selected to his first All-Star team this season, Bauer is 12-6 with a 2.22 ERA in 25 starts. Red Sox ace Chris Sale (12-4, 1.92 ERA), also rebuilding arm strength following an injury, is expected to throw about 65 pitches.

                        CLOSE TO RETURNING

Detroit's Niko Goodrum (quad) and third baseman Jeimer Candelario (back) took grounders before Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said Candelario could play as soon as Saturday, and Goodrum could possibly returning Monday.

                        READY IN THE BULLPEN

Boston Red Sox right hander Matt Barnes was available out of the bullpen Thursday against the New York Yankees for the first time in weeks. Barnes hasn't pitched since Sept. 3 because of left hip inflammation. Boston manager Alex Cora said he wouldn't put Barnes in a high-leverage situation right away.

                        STAYING THE COURSE

Cincinnati Reds manager Jim Riggleman doesn't plan on changing his lineup just because the Reds are playing Miami and Kanas City, last place in their respective divisions. Riggleman said he will continue using offensive leaders Gennet, Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez and Jose Peraza. ''I don't anticipate looking at too many different lineups,'' Riggleman said. ''I've been using them as I have to this point.''

Hottest team: Pirates (7-3 last 10)

Pittsburgh is in the role of spoiler this weekend as the Pirates look to deny the Brewers a chance at gaining ground on the Cubs in the NL Central. The Pirates pulled out three consecutive one-run wins over the Royals to extend their home winning streak to eight, while not losing a game at PNC Park in September. Pittsburgh’s pitching has stepped up of late by allowing two runs or less in four of the past five games, including two victories at Milwaukee last weekend.

The Pirates trot out right-hander Ivan Nova in the series opener, as the veteran beat the Brewers last Saturday at Miller Park by tossing six innings and allowing one earned run in a 3-1 victory. Nova has delivered quality starts in five of the past six outings, while yielding two earned runs or fewer five times in this span. However, the Pirates have lost each of Nova’s last two starts in the home underdog role to the Braves and Cubs.

Coldest team: Rockies (1-6 last seven)

On Monday, Colorado led Los Angeles by a half-game atop the NL West as the Rockies faced the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine for a three-game set. Three losses later, the Rockies have not only fallen out of first place in the division, but Colorado is looking up at St. Louis for the second Wild Card position in the National League. The rocky road for Colorado continues on Friday with a trip to Arizona, who is in desperation mode after losing six of its past eight games to fall into third place in the NL West.

Colorado has captured seven of the past nine matchups with Arizona as German Marquez heads to the mound on Friday. The Rockies own a 5-2 record in Marquez’s last seven starts, although both losses came on the road. Colorado has won four of Marquez’s five starts against Arizona this season, including both outings at Chase Field.

Hottest pitcher: Luis Castillo, Reds (10-12, 4.52 ERA)

Cincinnati won its first road series opener since the All-Star break on Thursday by doubling up Miami, 4-2, while snapping a nine-game skid in away Game 1’s. Castillo tries to give the Reds back-to-back road wins for only the second time in the second half on Friday as the right-hander is fresh off a pair of solid underdog victories over the Cubs and Dodgers. Castillo put together nearly identical stat lines by allowing four hits and one run, while pitching into the seventh inning against two of the National League’s division leaders. The Reds have won 10 of Castillo’s last 15 starts, including four wins on the road.

Coldest pitcher: CC Sabathia, Yankees (7-7, 3.80 ERA)

New York needs every win down the stretch to secure home-field advantage in the AL Wild Card round, presumably against Oakland. Sabathia has not been at his best late in the season as the former Cy Young winner has allowed five runs in two of his past three starts, while the Yankees are winless in his previous four appearances. Two of those losses have come at home as a favorite of at least -200 to the Blue Jays and White Sox as Sabathia opened as a -300 favorite against the woeful Orioles. The Yankees have lost two of Sabathia’s three starts to Baltimore this season, including as a -215 favorite in July.

Biggest OVER run: Athletics (5-0 last five)

Oakland’s offense has busted out since blowing a 4-1 lead in Tuesday’s loss to Los Angeles. The Athletics dropped a 10-spot on the Angels in Wednesday’s shutout, then topped themselves with a three-touchdown effort in a 21-3 rout of the Halos on Thursday. Since Labor Day, Oakland has scored at least seven runs in eight games, while the pitching has tightened up since allowing 21 runs in a three-game span earlier this week. The A’s host the Twins this weekend, as Oakland scored 19 runs in three victories at Target Field last month.

Biggest UNDER run: Reds (7-0 last seven)

Cincinnati’s pitching has yielded two runs or less in four of the past six games, including allowing two runs to Miami on Thursday. The offense hasn’t been stellar by scoring three runs or less in eight straight games prior to Thursday’s four-run outburst. Luis Castillo is riding a four-start UNDER streak for Cincinnati, while three of his past four road outings have finished UNDER the total.

Matchup to watch: Phillies vs. Braves

Atlanta captured a huge series opening win over Philadelphia on Thursday to move 6 ½ games up in the NL East race. The Braves broke it open late by scoring four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Phillies, 8-3 and pick up their second consecutive victory following a four-game skid. Atlanta also cashed its fifth consecutive OVER as the Braves have plated 15 runs in the past two wins.

The Braves will look to take another step closer towards their first division title since 2013 as Julio Teheran takes the mound on Friday. Atlanta had won four consecutive starts made by Teheran prior to a 7-1 setback to Washington his last time out in which he lasted only four innings and walked six batters. The Braves have won two of Teheran’s three starts against the Phillies this season, including both outings at SunTrust Park.

Following last night’s loss, the Phillies slipped to 1-7 in their past eight road series openers since late July. Nick Pivetta will look to get Philadelphia on track as the Phillies have dropped six of the right-hander’s last seven starts. Pivetta hasn’t pitched past the fifth inning in four straight outings, but the Phillies have won each of his two starts in Atlanta back in the opening month of the season.

Betcha didn’t know: Will the Red Sox and Indians see each other in the playoffs in a few weeks? The two teams meet up for a three-game series in Cleveland this weekend as Chris Sale and Trevor Bauer square off in the opener. Bauer is making his first start since August 11 as the Tribe has won each of his past six outings, while the Red Sox are a perfect 9-0 in Sale’s last nine trips to the mound.

Biggest public favorite: Yankees (-300) vs. Orioles

Biggest public underdog: Rangers (+115) vs. Mariners

Biggest line move: Rockies (+120 to +112) at Diamondbacks
