    OVER-UNDER HOT STREAKS

Team Over Record Team Under Record

Atlanta Over 4-0 past four games Chicago White Sox Under 4-1 past five games

Cleveland Over 8-3-1 past 12 games Detroit Under 15-6-2 past 23 games

St. Louis Over 8-2 past 10 games Kansas City Under 3-0-1 past four games

Tampa Bay Over 6-2 past eight games L.A. Angels Under 5-1 past six games

Texas Over 5-1 past six games Seattle Under 5-1 past six games

    White Sox-Angels Going Under Again?

The Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels have played a pair of 'under' games in the first two outings in their four-game set. The Angels have dropped both home games, averaging just 2.5 runs per contest, while allowing just 4.5 runs per game. With the exception of a surprising 14-run outburst against the defending champion Houston Astros on Sunday, the Angels have posted three or fewer runs in seven of their past 10 outings.

In Wednesday's battle, 'Big Game' James Shields will toe the slab and he will be opposed by Tyler Skaggs for the Halos. The 'under' has been the trend for both of the pitchers lately. The 'under' is 8-1-1 in Shields' past 10 outings against teams with a losing overall record, 12-4-1 in his past 17 starts overall and 7-3 in his past 10 starts against American League West opponents. The under has also gone 3-1-1 in the past five road outings, while going 5-0 in his past five appearances on Wednesday, for whatever that's worth. In addition, the under has hit in five of the past six on the road for the Pale Hose, while going 8-3 in their past 11 against a left-handed starter. The under is also 5-1 in their past six against AL West foes.

For the Angels, the under is 18-7-2 in the past 27 games overall, while going 7-1 in their past eight contests against AL Central opponents. In addition, the under is 4-1 in their past five home outings, while going 15-6-3 in the past 24 vs. RHP. For Skaggs, the under is 5-2 in his past seven outings, and 4-1 in his past five against a team with a losing record. In this series, the under is 11-4-1 in the past 16 meetings, including 5-2-1 in the past eight at the Big A.

    Looking Ahead

    Thursday, July 26

The Yankees will roll out Sonny Gray to face the lowly Kansas City Royals. The under is an impressive 6-2-1 in his past nine outings dating back to June 1. The Royals will counter with RHP Jakob Junis, with the 'under' cashing in three of his past four.

The Marlins host the Nationals to kick off a new set. These teams met in a four-game series from July 5-8, and the 'over' went 3-1. However, in three games at Marlins Park from May 25-27, the 'under' went 3-1 with the Marlins averaging just 2.7 runs per game while allowing 6.0 runs per contest. The under is 4-1-2 in the past seven meetings in South Florida, and 6-2-2 in the past 10 at Marlins Park.

Veteran Bartolo Colon and the Rangers will host Trevor Cahill and the Athletics on Thursday. The under is 6-3-1 over Colon's past 10 appearances, including a push on the total in his most recent outing against Oakland when he allowed just two earned runs over five innings June 6 at home. The under is 3-1-1 in the past five outings for Cahill. Can Texas slow down the Oakland offense on Thursday? They allowed 14.0 runs per game in the first two outings on Monday and Tuesday.

    Friday, July 27

The O's host the Rays in Game 2 of a four-game set. The last time these clubs met in a four-game set at Oriole Park the 'over' connected three times. The O's won three of those games, averaging 8.8 runs per game during the set, while the Rays average 4.5 runs per contest. Eight of the past nine meetings in Baltimore have resulted in an 'over', too.

CC Sabathia takes the ball for the Yankees in Friday's battle against the Royals. 'Under' bettors have been cashing in on the Hefty Lefty, as the 'under' is 7-0-1 across his past eight starts, including a perfect 4-0 in his past four assignments at home.

LHP Jason Vargas pitches for the Mets in the Steel City, and he brings an 8.60 ERA into the battle. Not good. Well, not good unless you like 'over' results. The over is 3-2-1 in his six road outings since coming over from the Royals, and he has allowed at least four earned runs in six of his past 10 appearances overall.

RHP Anthony DeSclafani hits the rubber for a home meeting with the Phillies. The 'over' has been the rule lately for the Cincinnati righty, going 6-1 over his past seven appearances.

RHP Marcus Stroman of the Blue Jays started the season on a very slow note, but lately he has pieced things together. Total bettors are taking notice, as the 'under' is a perfect 8-0 over his past eight outings.

MLB Betting – Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants

The Milwaukee Brewers head out West on Thursday to begin an eight-game road trip, as they visit the San Francisco Giants.

The Brewers have been playing well of late and they are just behind the Cubs in the NL Central, while the Giants are in fourth place in the NL West, but they are still very much in contention. The probable pitching matchup for Thursday has Wade Miley going against Dereck Rodriguez.

Let’s look at the matchup and MLB picks.

Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants
Date and Time: Thursday, July 26, 2018, 8:40 p.m. ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
      MLB Odds: Giants -109, O/U 8
Probable Pitchers: Wade Miley vs. Dereck Rodriguez
Brewers vs. Giants TV Coverage: MLB Network

The Brewers have been much better at home than on the road, but they are not a disgrace away from home at 25-25. Milwaukee has gone over 23 times on the road, under 26 times, with one push. They are averaging 4.3 runs per game and giving up 3.6 per contest.

The Giants have been a good home team this season, as they are 31-19 at AT&T Park. They have gone over 26 times at home, under 21 times, with three pushes. They are averaging just over four runs per game and giving up just under four runs per contest.

      Starting Pitchers

The Brewers may have found something in terms of a starting pitcher, as Miley has been really good. He has made only four starts so it is a small sample size, but he is 1-1 on the season with a 1.56 ERA. He went six innings last time out against the Dodgers and allowed just one run and four hits.

Rodriguez is 5-1 on the season with a 2.72 ERA. He has been very reliable, but like Miley, his sample size is somewhat small. He has made eight starts and given the Giants a chance to win. He has allowed two runs or less in his last five starts. The Giants are 7-1 when Rodriguez starts this season. Rodriguez is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his last three starts.

      Key Stats

The Brewers are 5-16 in the last 21 meetings in San Francisco. The Brewers are 14-4 in their last 18 vs. the National League West. The Brewers are 1-6 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Brewers are 0-6 in their last 6 road games. The Giants are 19-9 in their last 28 home games. The Giants are 2-6 in their last 8 games vs. a left-handed starter. The Giants are 4-0 in Rodriguez’s last 4 home starts.

Looking at the total, the Over is 8-3-1 in the Brewers last 12 road games. The Under is 18-8 in the Brewers last 26 vs. the National League West. The Under is 50-23-2 in the Brewers last 75 road games vs. a right-handed starter. The Under is 8-3 in the Giants last 11 games vs. a left-handed starter. The Under is 4-0 in Rodriguez’s last 4 starts overall. The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in San Francisco.

      Brewers vs. Giants Picks

Oftentimes you will hear people say that a pitching matchup is a good one that goes under the radar. In this case it may actually be true, as both Miley and Rodriguez have been really good and neither one has a high profile. It is very surprising what Miley has done because he has not been very good in recent years. Perhaps the sample size is simply too small for this season and Miley will get back to being a below average pitcher. The sample size on Rodriguez this season is not much more, but he looks to be a pitcher who can be successful for a long time for the Giants. I give the Giants the edge in this one and it definitely doesn’t hurt our cause that the Brewers have been awful in San Francisco in recent years, winning just five of the last 21 meetings. I will lay the price and take the Giants in this one.

Brewers vs. Giants Pick: San Francisco Giants-Under
Brewers vs. Giants Score Prediction: Giants 5, Brewers 2

MLB Preview - Minnesota Twins At Boston Red Sox

The Minnesota Twins are going to need to pile up a bunch of surprising wins in order to have a shot at catching the Indians in the American League Central down the stretch. They would love to begin that move by pulling out an underdog victory on the road against the best team in the major leagues.

The Twins will head to Boston for a matchup with the mighty Red Sox. Boston has been great this season and will be the favorite at home. The Red Sox are looking to hold off the Yankees and Astros for the best record in the league to head into the playoffs with the top seed.

The Twins have a good deal of young talent but might be a year away from true playoff contention. The Red Sox have been dominant at home this season and will aim to continue that run in MLB gambling.

The MLB Baseball contest will be held at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The game will take place on Thursday, July 26th, 2018, at 7:10 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on MLB Network.

We'll have MLB baseball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2018 MLB season.

        Odds Analysis

The Red Sox will enter this matchup with a 71-32 overall record and a mark of 34-13 at home. Boston has impressive pitching, offense and defense which should set the table for a deep postseason run. The Red Sox have a run-differential of plus-168, which is second-best in the majors behind Houston.

The Twins have won three straight games but are still under .500 on the season at 47-53. They are in second place in the A.L. Central but sit 7.5 games behind Cleveland and must have a great stretch soon to get into realistic striking distance of the Indians. Cleveland has to somehow find a way to pull out some tough road games like this one in MLB betting.

        Probable Pitchers

The Twins are expected to send right-hander Kyle Gibson to the mound. He’s had an up-and-down career but has been solid this season, entering with a 4-7 record and a 3.57 ERA. Gibson has gotten his strikeout numbers up and has a batting average against of just .227. He needs to pitch extremely well because the Red Sox boast a dynamic group of hitters.

Boston will counter with fill-in Brian Johnson. He is 1-3 with a 3.81 ERA on the season. Johnson has primarily been used out of the bullpen but will get a start in this one. It gives the Twins a measure of hope as most of Boston’s regular starters are much more talented and would be tough to hit against. Johnson didn’t give up any earned runs in five innings of work last time out against the Tigers and would love to duplicate that effort.

        Player To Watch

Eddie Rosario -- The Twins’ left fielder has taken a big step forward in his progress this season. Rosario is batting .310 with 19 homers, 62 RBIs and an OPS of .873, which is very impressive in a pitcher’s park.

Minnesota needs players like Rosario to play well because a pair of youngsters expected to be superstars have not yet loved up to the billing. Byron Buxton has dealt with injuries this year while slugger Miguel Sano struggled and was sent down to the minor leagues.

If those two get going this team has the potential to be good down the road but they won’t be helping in this game.

        Free MLB ATS Picks

The presence of Johnson gives the Twins a fighting chance but he has been solid and likely won’t get knocked around by the Twins. The Red Sox have the clearly superior offense which should get to Gibson at some point.

Take Boston to pick up this win by a pair of runs to strengthen its hold on the top spot in the American League in MLB wagering.

MLB ATS Pick: Boston Red Sox 6, Minnesota Twins 4

          • Cubs stun Diamondbacks 7-6 with consecutive homers in 9th
            July 26, 2018

CHICAGO (AP) David Bote hit a tying, two-run homer off Brad Boxberger with one out in the ninth inning, Anthony Rizzo followed two pitches later with a winning home run and the Chicago Cubs overcame a five-run deficit to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 on Thursday.

Bote was called up when Kris Bryant was put on the disabled list because of inflammation in his left shoulder.

Eddie Butler (1-1) retired Jon Jay on a flyout that stranded two runners in the ninth. Boxberger (1-4) was the loser.

Nick Ahmed hit his first career grand slam in the fifth as Arizona built a 6-1 lead.

            YANKEES 7, ROYALS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was hit on his right wrist by a pitch and forced to leave early, overshadowing New York's romp past Kansas City.

The All-Star slugger sustained a fractured right wrist when he was hit by a fastball and is expected to miss three weeks.

Normally an All-Star outfielder, Judge was the designated hitter. He winced when he was stung by a fastball from Jakob Junis (5-11) in the first inning, got an infield hit the next time up and then was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the fourth.

On a busy day for the Yankees, Sonny Gray (8-7) pitched five shutout innings to win three straight starts for the first time since last July. He exited soon after getting nicked in the pitching hand by a hard grounder.

Didi Gregorius hit a three-run homer for New York, which began the day 5+ games behind AL East-leading Boston. Center fielder Aaron Hicks threw out Alex Gordon at the plate to end the game as Gordon tried to score from second on a single.

            DODGERS 8, BRAVES 2

ATLANTA (AP) - Manny Machado hit his first home run for Los Angeles, Rich Hill pitched seven dominant innings and the Dodgers routed Atlanta.

Machado, acquired last week from Baltimore to add even more punch to a team that leads the National League in homers, went deep in his seventh game with the Dodgers. He lined a fastball into the left-field seats leading off the sixth against Anibal Sanchez, Machado's 25th homer of the season overall.

Hill (4-4) limited the Braves to three hits and a walk while striking out seven, and he even picked up his first RBI of the season .

While Sanchez (5-3) turned in another solid outing for the Braves, defensive blunders and a lack of offense ruined his night.

            TWINS 2, RED SOX 1

BOSTON (AP) - Mitch Garver hit a tiebreaking RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning, and Minnesota held on to beat Boston.

Kyle Gibson (5-7) held Boston to four hits and one run in eight innings. Fernando Rodney surrendered a single and back-to-back walks to load the bases in the ninth, but he struck out Jackie Bradley Jr. to complete the five-hitter and earn his 22nd save in 27 opportunities.

The Twins have won four straight. Boston has lost three of five. Its lead in the AL East fell to 4+ games over the New York Yankees, who beat Kansas City on Thursday.

Boston's Heath Hembree and Matt Barnes (3-3) combined to give up four hits and both of Minnesota's runs after Hembree relieved starter Brian Johnson in the sixth.

            METS 12, PIRATES 6

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Asdrubal Cabrera went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs to break out of an extended slump, and New York pounded sloppy Pittsburgh for its first three-game winning streak since mid-June.

Cabrera entered hitting just .184 (7 for 38) in his prior 12 games. He doubled home Devin Mesoraco in the second against Nick Kingham (5-5) and hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the fourth.

Wilmer Flores also hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs as the struggling Mets posted their highest run total since scoring a dozen times against Colorado on June 18.

Steven Matz (5-8) settled down after giving up two-run homers to David Freese and Josh Harrison in the early innings. Matz tied a career-high with nine strikeouts, walked two and retired his final 10 batters to win for just the third time in his last 11 starts.

            NATIONALS 10, MARLINS 3

MIAMI (AP) - Trea Turner homered and hit a tiebreaking, two-run triple in the seventh inning that led Washington over Miami.

Juan Soto also homered and Matt Wieters added a two-run double for the Nationals, who trailed 3-0 before rallying. Washington had nine extra-base hits in the opener of a four-game series.

Tommy Milone made his season debut for the Nationals, allowing three runs and eight hits in five innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Justin Miller (6-1) followed with a perfect sixth.

            ANGELS 12, WHITE SOX 8

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Francisco Arcia became the first Los Angeles Angels player with four RBIs in his major league debut, hitting a three-run homer and an RBI single. Ian Kinsler and Kole Calhoun also homered for the Angels.

Daniel Palka and Jose Abreu each hit two home runs for the White Sox, and Avisail Garcia and Nicky Delmonico also went deep.

Nick Tropeano (4-5) allowed five runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Dylan Covey (4-6) gave up six runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.

            ATHLETICS 7, RANGERS 6

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Trevor Cahill ended a nine-start winless streak, Bartolo Colon failed for his fourth consecutive outing to become the winningest major league pitcher born in Latin America and Oakland beat Texas to complete a four-game sweep.

Matt Chapman homered, tripled twice and scored three runs for the A's, who have swept three four-game series on the road for the first time since 1928. Oakland has won six straight games, matching its season high, is 27-7 since June 16 and trails Seattle by one game for the AL's second wild card.

Cahill (2-2) allowed five runs, seven hits, three walks and a hit batter in five innings. He had been 0-2 since beating the Chicago White Sox on April 17 and twice went on the disabled list.

Colon (5-9) allowed six runs and nine hits in seven innings, throwing a season-high 106 pitches. He has 245 wins, tied with Dennis Martinez.

            PHILLIES 9, REDS 4

CINCINNATI (AP) - Rhys Hoskins, Maikel Franco and Nick Williams each hit two of Philadelphia's record-tying seven home runs, and the Phillies overpowered Cincinnati in the opener of a four-game series.

Carlos Santana added a two-run homer as the NL East leaders tied the franchise record for home runs in a game, set on Sept. 8, 1998, against the Mets.

Left-hander Ranger Suarez (1-0) won his major league debut, allowing six hits and four runs with one walk and three strikeouts in five innings. Eugenio Suarez and Tucker Barnhart each reached him for two-run homers.

Franco's first homer, off reliever Michael Lorenzen (1-1), snapped a 4-4 tie in the fifth.

Friday’s List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here…….

              13) If you like the NFL and play fantasy or bet games or want to learn more about football, the Warren Sharp Football Preview is something you need to buy.

A softcover textbook basically, the Preview goes thru each NFL team, which explicit breakdowns on red zone targets and formations run and all kinds of fun technical football stuff.

              12) For instance, when Buffalo Bills threw an incomplete pass on 1st-and-10 LY (in quarters 1-3), they ran ball on 2nd down 82% of the time, averaging 3.4 ypc. In the 18% of the time when they threw the ball, they averaged 5.5 yards/play.

It makes me laugh that so many NFL teams automatically run ball on 2nd-and-10, because 3rd-and-10 situations make most coaches want to puke.

Anyway, thats the kind of stuff that is in this book; educational football things.

              11) My suggestion for the AAF and XFL, the two new spring football leagues that will sprout up the next two years, is to not have radio transmitters in the QB’s helmet. Let the QB call the plays- the game is way more exciting/fun when the players run the game.

Coaches have six days to prepare the players to play; game day should be the players’ day!!!

              10) Lebron James’ son is 13 or 14 years old; he was supposed to play an AAU game at Liberty HS in suburban Las Vegas Wednesday night, but the game got cancelled when the tiny gym got really crowded after Lebron Sr showed up. “Security concerns” was the reason given.

This gym had three rows of bleachers; tournament organizers are going to have to make special arrangements for this kid’s games, if his very famous father is going to show up to watch.

              9) When Tampa Bay traded one of its three starting pitchers (Nathan Eovaldi) to the Red Sox, the prospect they got back was Jalen Beeks, who is 5-5, 2.89 in 16 AAA starts this year, but was 0-1, 12.79 in two big league games, throwing 6.1 innings.

              8) Was listening to a podcast this week where an author received 800 rejection letters for his writing— the guy kept all 800 rejection letters, to fuel himself to work harder and stick with his craft. The guy has now written around 20 books, including a NY Times bestseller.

              7) White Sox 1B Jose Abreu went from June 26-July 25 without hitting a double, which is hard to believe. He had 27 doubles on June 25; now he has 28. He also homered twice Thursday.

              6) Read something on the Interweb this week that CBS/Kelsey Grammer are talking about bringing the TV show Frasier back, which would be a good idea- the Cheers spinoff was a fun show.

              5) Angels 12, White Sox 8— Angels’ starter Nick Tropeano allowed five hits Thursday, all home runs, becoming the 4th pitcher ever to do that, joining Denny McLain, Mat Latos and Steve Stone, who ironically was broadcasting this game on White Sox TV.

              4) On February 12, 2016, Milwaukee traded Khris Davis to the A’s, for Bubba Derby and Jacob Nottingham. If Oakland makes the playoffs this year and they make Moneyball 2 (the sequel), this trade is a big part of why, absolute larceny.

Since coming to Oakland, Davis has hit 112 home runs, scored 235 runs, knocked in 289.

Nottingham is a catcher who is 4-20 in seven MLB games. He hit .259 in six minor league seasons. Derby is a pitcher who is 4-5, 4.95 at AAA Colorado Springs this season.

              3) I’ve been an A’s fan since the mid-60’s; remember driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles in 1986, thought it was so cool that I was listening to an A’s-Angels game on the radio, coming in from San Bernadino. Now, the A’s were dreadful that year, and they had a relief pitcher named Eric Plunk.

Plunk comes in, walks the first three hitters he faced, so of course, the 4th guy hits a grand slam. To this day, 32 years later, when a pitcher walks several guys then gives up a homer, I think to myself “….bleeping Eric Plunk”

Milwaukee rookie Freddy Peralta is on my fantasy team; Tuesday, he walks the first two guys in the 5th inning, then of course the next guy hits a 3-run homer. Eric bleepin’ Plunk, and Peralta damn sure will wind up being better than Plunk was.

              2) From the NY Post: “……..Jets surprisingly fired senior director of team operations Clay Hampton last month. Hampton had worked for the team for 30 years and had been in charge of operations since 2006. His father, Bill, was the team’s equipment manager from 1964 through 2000.”

Former Jets coach Rex Ryan said this: “He was awesome. The six years I was there, he was better than great. Everything was done at such a first-class level. Not one time ever did we have an issue with any of the places we stayed, the airlines. It was awesome. To me, he was an amazing guy and someone I was really proud that I had the opportunity to work with him.”

              1) Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 6– Chicago hit back/back homers in bottom of 9th to split this series. Tough loss for Arizona, which is in the middle of the playoff chase.

              • LEADING OFF: Bumgarner at Brewers; Mets try for 3rd straight
                July 26, 2018

A look at what's happening around the majors Friday:

                BUM'S RUSH

San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner (3-3, 3.19) pitches the second game of a four-game weekend set with Milwaukee. The left-hander is making his 10th start of the season, and the Giants are 4-1 in his home outings. The 2014 World Series MVP is coming off a career-high six walks last Saturday at Oakland, when he lasted only four-plus innings.

Two-time All-Star closer Joakim Soria is set to be with the Brewers, a day after they acquired him from the Chicago White Sox. Manager Craig Counsell said Soria won't be his closer. The Brewers have Corey Knebel in that role.

                STREAKING

The New York Mets will go for a rare four-game winning streak when they face Pittsburgh, while pitcher Jason Vargas will try to do something he hasn't done since 2005: beat the Pirates.

Vargas was a 22-year-old rookie for the Florida Marlins when he came on in relief on July 27, 2005, and held the Pirates hitless over three innings for his first major league victory. It remains his only career triumph over Pittsburgh. Another 86 have followed, but only two have come this season for the Mets, who signed him to a two-year deal in February after he made the AL All-Star team for the first time at age 34 while pitching for Kansas City. Vargas is just 2-6 with an 8.60 ERA for New York and has spent a month recovering from a strained right calf that's kept him out since June 20. He made two rehab starts for Class A Brooklyn, striking out 19 in 12 innings.

                NEW BEHIND THE PLATE

World Series champion Houston could have a new catcher in the lineup for its series opener against rival Texas. The Astros acquired Martin Maldonado from the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday for left-hander Patrick Sandoval and $250,000 in international signing bonus pool allocation.

Maldonado's contributions behind the plate helped the Angels' starters post a 3.77 ERA, which ranked fifth in the AL. A Gold Glove winner last season, Maldonado is also hitting .223 with 32 RBIs in 78 games.

Houston's Brian McCann hasn't played since June 30 and is recovering from right knee surgery. Max Stassi has been starting at catcher for the Astros in most games this month.

                          • Friday's Diamond Notes
                            Tony Mejia

                            Hottest team: A's (6-0 last six, 27-7 +2630 last 34)

Oakland is now a season-high 18 games over .500 and has pulled within a single game of Seattle for the second AL wild card spot as they continue a seven-game road trip in Denver in the only interleague series going on this weekend. Matt Chapman hit two triples and homered to close out a sweep of the Rangers, becoming only the eighth player since 2000 to do that in a game. Khris Davis saw his streak of home runs in four consecutive games end on Thursday, but he and Stephen Piscotty are still hot.

A’s lefty Sean Manaea (9-6, 3.38 ERA) has also been dominant of late, winning his last four decisions and leading his team to victories in seven of his last eight appearances. He’s allowed three or fewer runs in nine straight starts and squares off against fellow southpaw Kyle Freeland (8-6, 3.28), who is typically good in his hometown of Denver and has an ERA of 2.55 over his last seven outings. Despite their surge, Oakland is a slight underdog (+105) at Coors Field, where Colorado (-115) has won nine of its last 11.

Coldest team: Rangers (1-8 last nine, 4-16, -1295 last 20)

The Rangers were swept at home by Oakland and have dropped five one-run games over their last nine, which doesn’t even include the eight-run lead they blew on Tuesday in a 13-10 extra-inning win. They’ll hit the road for a date with rival Houston, sending the only pitcher that’s tasted a victory for Texas since the All-Star break to the mound. Yovani Gallardo (4-1, 7.18) pitched six scoreless innings against the Indians on Sunday and has pitched in five Rangers wins in his six outings since joining the team in mid-June.

Despite Gallardo’s recent form, the Rangers are a massive underdog (+230) since the Astros are sending a hot Dallas Keuchel (8-8, 3.53) to the mound at Minute Maid Park. After opening 3-8, Keuchel has even his record with wins in each of his last four starts, giving up only three earned runs in his last 27.2 innings of work, striking out 18 hitters. He hasn’t allowed a homer un since June 5, a stretch of just over 50 frames. Keuchel is 2-1 with a 3.70 ERA in four starts against in-state rival Texas. Houston (-260) is Friday’s third-heaviest favorite.

Hottest pitcher: Wade LeBlanc, Mariners (6-1, 3.44 ERA)

Since moving into the rotation to open May, lefty Wade LeBlanc has pitched in 11 Seattle wins in 15 starts, surrendering two or fewer runs in nine of his appearances. He’s been untouchable at home (6-0), but vulnerable on the road, looking for his first win outside Safeco Field. LeBlanc comes off striking out a career-high 10 batters over the White Sox last Friday, lowering his June ERA to 3.65, which is even more impressive since he’s faced the Rockies twice and beat these Angels on July 3, allowing one run on three hits over seven frames. LeBlanc has allowed three runs in 12 innings, winning both of his starts against L.A. Andrelton Simmons has gone deep against LeBlanc, but Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler and Kole Calhoun are a combined 5-for-33 at the plate against him. He’s yet to face Shohei Ohtani.

Coldest pitcher: Nick Pivetta, Phillies (6-8, 4.69 ERA)

The first-place Phillies slugged their way to a 9-4 victory in yesterday’s series opener against the Reds by belting seven homers and have now seen the ‘over’ hit in seven of their last eight games. They’ll likely need to keep the bats working in order to stay hot with Pivetta on the mound since he's dropped six of his last eight decisions. Over his last four starts, he’s surrendered 19 runs (15 earned) in just 17.1 innings. He’s a capable strikeout pitcher but has really been hit hard, compiling an ERA of 6.00 since June 1, giving up 56 hits and nine homers in just 43.2 innings. Pivetta is 6-10 on the road with an ERA over 6.00 in his brief career and will be pitching at Great American Ballpark for the first time. He gave up two runs on just five hits over seven frames against Cincinnati on April 11 in his only appearance against the Reds.

Biggest OVER run: Dodgers/Braves (5-0 last five)

The Dodgers built up an 8-0 lead to dominate Atlanta in the opener of a four-game set and have seen at least 10 runs scored in six of their seven games on their current road trip. Manny Machado hit his first home run since being acquired and joining L.A. on this trip and has hit safely in six of seven games. Joc Pederson is 12-for-23 (.522) on the trip with four doubles and a home run and will look to victimize Mike Foltynewicz in Game 2 of the series. Clayton Kershaw (3-5, 2.64) has struggled with velocity issues but his last two starts have gone ‘under’ after four straight topped the posted total upon his return from a three-week absence due to a back strain. Atlanta’s last five games have also gone ‘over.’ The Braves avoided being shut out last night when Roberto Acuna, Jr. homered in the bottom of the 8th on Thursday. The total for tonight's contest has been set at 8.

Biggest UNDER run: Giants (18-8-1 last 27)

The Giants were even at 2-2 entering the eighth inning before their bullpen fell apart. The seven runs Milwaukee scored were the most surrendered by San Francisco pitching in 11 games, but Madison Bumgarner takes the mound looking to get his team back on track as they look to avoid slipping under .500 for the first time since June 22. MadBum comes off his shortest outing of the season, lasting four innings due to a six-walk outing. He's given up just 10 runs in his last 36.1 innings and is 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA at home since returning from the disabled list in June. Brewers righty Chase Anderson (6-7, 3.81) has a 2.66 road ERA and has surrendered two or fewer runs in seven of his past eight outings. The total has been set at 7.5.

Matchup to watch: Cardinals vs Cubs

Most Cardinals fans will trip over themselves telling you how sloppy this year’s team has been. A lack of execution in the field and on the mound ultimately cost Mike Matheny his job on July 14 and replacement Mike Shildt hasn’t fared much better. The Cards are a game under .500 under the team’s former bench coach and are 2-3 against the Cubs, who they played five times coming out of the All-Star break last weekend. At home against its hated rival, St. Louis (51-51) faces a now-or-never situation this weekend in its final Busch Stadium dates of the season against Chicago. The Cards hope to start generating some momentum with 60 games remaining They’ll play games No. 160-162 at Wrigley Field from Sept. 28-30.

The Cardinals are 7-6 vs. the Cubs this season and hope to get off to a good start here as Luke Weaver (5-9, 4.79) faces Chicago for the second time this week. Lefty Mike Montgomery (3-3, 3.73) allowed one run in six innings and held a 3-1 lead before the bullpen blew it in a 6-3 loss. He’s allowed one run in 10 innings against Cards this season. Weaver took the loss in a 7-2 setback to open a Saturday doubleheader and has struggled in three starts against the Cubs, failing to get through the fifth inning each time. He’s given up 13 runs in 12 innings, striking out seven and walking seven while being all kinds of mediocre.

Kris Bryant landed on the disabled list with a shoulder issue, but Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez , Jason Heyward, Kyle Schwarber, Ben Zobrist, Addison Russell and Albert Almora Jr. are a combined 28-for-52 (.538) with two homers and 17 RBI against Weaver. Despite that, St. Louis (-110) opened as the favorite over the visiting Cubs, who utilized homers from rookie David Bote and Rizzo off Arizona closer Brad Boxberger to rally for a 7-6 win at Wrigley on Thursday. The total for this game has been set a 8.5.

                            Betcha didn’t know:
Chris Sale (11-4, 2.13) has been tremendous over his last eight starts, going 6-1 with an 0.83 ERA and allowing no homers in any of those outings while striking out 87 and walking five. The 57 innings he's pitched wihtout surrendering a dinger is baseball's longest current streak. He joined Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens as the only Red Sox starters ever to strike out 500 batters over a two-year span in his last start and has a league-leading 188 Ks entering Friday's home date against Minnesota. His ERA is the best in the American League. It's no surprise that Boston (-350) is the day's biggest favorite against Lance Lynn (7-8, 5.23) and the Twins.

Biggest public favorite: Indians (-190) at Tigers

Biggest public underdog: Braves (+145) vs. Dodgers

Biggest line move: Red Sox (-330 to -360) vs. Twins

                              Friday MLB Best Bet

                              Cleveland vs Detroit

Plenty of weekend series in MLB get going tonight and there are a handful of them that pit the “haves” vs the “have nots.” We've got four teams laying -200 or more and although the Cleveland Indians aren't one of them, they are awfully close as they sit in the -180 to -190 range this morning.

Cleveland actually comes into this game on a bit of a slump as they've dropped three of four overall, laying at least -160 or more in all four games. But their last outing on Wednesday was an impressive 4-0 win to salvage one game against Pittsburgh. Can they open up this series on a higher note?

Odds: Cleveland (-180) vs Detroit (+162); Total set at 8.5

Cleveland has dominated this AL Central rivalry for the most part this season, going 6-1 SU in their last seven games against the Tigers, including sweeping them in Cleveland about a month ago. That three-game set in Cleveland was a whitewash for Tigers fans as Cleveland outscored Detroit 26-3 over the course of those three games as there was really nothing the Tigers could do right. Tigers fans are hoping at least one outcome is different this weekend as they look to put whatever dent they can in Cleveland's playoff chances, but considering P Mike Fiers gets the nod tonight for the Tigers and it was him who started the series opener with Cleveland a month ago (a 10-0 loss for Detroit), optimism can't be too high in Detroit this evening.

However, where confidence might be a bit higher, at least from a betting standpoint, is on this total tonight. Fiers being responsible for four of the 10 runs allowed in that start a month ago, doesn't exude confidence in a potential 'over' bet, but the fact that Fiers has allowed at least one HR against in each of his last six starts against Cleveland overall, suggests that runs may not be as hard to come by as many thing this evening. Fiers hasn't been the best 'over' bet on the whole as Detroit is just 7-10-2 O/U in his 19 starts, but while his recent numbers may look good on the surface, there are some concerns.

For one, Detroit may be 2-1 SU in Fiers' last three starts overall thanks to allowing 1.7/game on average with a 1.96 ERA, but those numbers don't exactly tell the whole story. Fiers has allowed 21 hits in just 18.1 innings of work over those three starts as he's continually finding ways out of jams and that's unlikely to continue forever. A good team like Cleveland is going to capitalize on those opportunites when they come around, and having ripped apart Fiers the last time they saw him, you know the Indians are coming in with plenty of confidence here.

Furthermore, Cleveland is sending Carlos Carrasco to the hill, and although his numbers do leave a bit to be desired (never a bad thing for 'over' plays), the fact that when he takes the hill the Indians tend to score is what I'm banking on tonight.

Cleveland scored 6.1 runs per game on average when Carrasco gets the start this season, but over his last three outings, Cleveland has managed to score in double digits each time. Carrasco's last three starts have been wins of 16-3, 19-4, and 10-4, easily cashing Indians ML and 'over' wagers. And while those wins would suggest backing Cleveland and laying that chalk isn't a bad idea either, Carrasco is a guy that can be a little tough to trust at times which is why I'm going this route with the total.

Cleveland is 5-1 O/U in their last six series openers, and a 5-1 O/U run with Carrasco on the hill against a losing team, and 6-2-1 O/U run when he's had a full five days off doesn't hurt either. Early betting action has already come in the other way here, creating more value on this 'over' by the hour, and Detroit will make sure to pull their weight here in a potential upset bid, because if they are to beat Cleveland tonight, chances are it won't be in a 2-1 type game.

                              Best Bet: Over 8.5 runs
