The Arizona Diamondbacks have posted an impressive 3.41 ERA so far this season, ranking third in the National League and fourth overall in MLB. The pitching has definitely been championship caliber, and offense hasn't been a problem in past seasons. However, the Diamondbacks have been a poor performer at the betting window mostly due to their flagging offense. Arizona ranks last in the majors with a .218 team batting average, and they've managed just 65 homers to rank in the bottom third of the league. In addition, Arizona ranks 26th in runs scored (240). It's a shocking number considering they're a first-place team in the National League West, while all of the other four teams behind them in runs scored are either in fourth or fifth place. In other words, if you bet the Diamondbacks, you have a good chance of winning. However, it is going to be a sweat shop and a low-scoring game.

    TEAM RUN LEADERS - BEST/WORST

    N.Y. Yankees 334 Baltimore 223
    Houston 314 N.Y. Mets 232

    Chicago Cubs 308 Arizona 240

    Looking Ahead

    Saturday, June 9

The Houston Astros were expected to have dominant pitching this season, but not many thought Charlie Morton would be one of the best pitchers in the league. He is 7-1 with a 2.84 ERA while recording 92 strikeouts over 73 innings in an All-Star caliber campaign. He'll face a Rangers team he beat on May 12, allowing just one run and four hits while posting a season-high 14 strikeouts. He also had a quality start in a no-decision against the Rangers back on April 14, whiffing 12 over just six innings.

The Astros are 5-1 across their past six road games against a team with a losing record, and they're 8-3 in their past 11 away games against a left-handed starting pitcher. Houston has won 28 of their past 39 games inside the division while going 8-1 in Morton's past nine while working on five days of rest. The Rangers counter with Mike Minor, and they're just 1-4 over his past five outings and 1-4 in his past five inside the division. They're also a dismal 10-23 in the past 33 home games vs. RHP. Houston has owned this series, going 8-1 in their past nine in Arlington and 11-4 in the past 15 overall. The 'under' is 5-0 in the past five meetings.

As mentioned above, the Diamondbacks have struggled this season. However, they're 5-0 in their past five trips to Colorado, and 5-1 in the past six meetings overall with the Rockies. The Rox are using Chad Bettis, and the 'over' is 3-1-1 in his past five outings against Arizona. The over is 7-0-2 in the past nine overall for Colorado, while going 5-0-1 in their past six at home and 5-0-1 in their past six inside the division. While the under is 7-1 in Arizona's past eight on the road vs. RHP, the over is 4-1-1 in their past six inside the division.

    Weather Report

The weather in the nation's capital will be ugly kicking off around noon time. That's bad news, as that's exactly when first pitch forthe Giants-Nationals game will be. The chances of thunderstorms will be 45 percent at 12, including to around 80 percent by 2pm. The chances of thunderstorms will remain in the forecast until the early evenings hours, so it might be a long day or potential cancellation in the nation's capitals.

In the Bay Area, there will be no precipitation in the forecast, but the winds will be blowing hard. The gusts will be blowing 19-23 mph from home plate to the right-center field power alley. The same forecast holds true for Beantown, as the White Sox-Red Sox game will see winds from 10-13 mph blowing out to Pesky's Pole in right field at Fenway Park.

In the Metroplex, the Astros-Rangers game will have warm temperatures in the low 90's and no rain. However, the winds will be blowing hard from 10-13 mph from right-center field into the face of the batters at home plate.

    Sunday, June 10

The Mets and Yankees will do battle on ESPN in the national Sunday night game. If the Mets are going to have any measure of success they'll need production from the meat of their order. Unfortunately for the Mets they rank dead last in the majors with a .204 batting average, .276 slugging percentage and just two home runs over 59 games. That's not going to cut it against the Marlins, let alone the Yankees. The team might get an infusion of offense when Yoenis Cespedes (strained right hip flexor) is ready, but they'll have to wait until at least Tuesday in Atlanta. He was 0-for-2 as the designated hitter in a minor-league rehab outing for Double-A Binghamton.

The injury news gets worse for the Mets, as closer Jeurys Familia landed on the 10-day disabled list Friday due to a sore right shoulder. Noah Syndergaard was expected to start Sunday, but he will not be ready after experiencing swelling and discomfort in his finger while playing catch. Seth Lugo will make the start against the Yankees, and that's not likely to end well. The Yankees won the series opener on Friday by a 4-1 score, and they're 8-1 across their past nine interleague games. They're also 7-1 in their past eight interleague games on the road.

The Mets, meanwhile, are a mess. They are 0-9 in their past nine home games, whille going 0-4 in their past four at home against a right-handed starting pitcher. They're also just 3-15 across their past 18 interleague games.

In Texas, the winds will be blowing in hard from right field to home plate, so the 'under' trend in this series might continue. Entering play Monday the 'under' was 5-0 in the past five meetings. The under is also 5-2-1 in the past eight for Texas against AL West foes. The under is 8-3-1 in Houston's past 12 inside the division, too.

    Weather Report
The Cardinals-Reds game should be able to start on time, but they'll be keeping an eye to the sky by the middle innings. The chances of thunderstorms will go from 30 to 50 percent from 2pm ET onward.

In Philadelphia, the Brewers and Phillies could be dodging the raindrops. There is a 30 percent chance of rain from 12pm ET throughout the early-evening hours. It might not be enough for a postponement, but we could have to deal with the tarpaulin and delays throughout the afternoon.

In Detroit, rain won't be a problem, but the winds will be blowing from 10-13 mph across from third base to first base. The same holds true for the series finale between the Angels and Twins. Rain won't be an issue, but the winds are blowing in from the scoreboard in right-center field to home plate at a 11-13 mph clip.

It will be windy in Arlington again, too, with clear conditions and the temperature gauge reading near 100 degrees fahrenheit. However, there will be a hot wind blowing from 12-15 mph in from right field to home plate, knocking down any power to right.

It won't be nearly as warm in the Bay Area, but the winds will be blowing out from 14-17 mph to the right-center field power alley.

    • Cardinals look to continue dominance of Reds
      June 9, 2018

The St. Louis Cardinals are staying in the NL Central race primarily because they can't seem to lose to the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds are 0-8 against St. Louis this season, including 0-5 in their own ballpark. And if a 7-6, 10-inning loss to the Cardinals on Friday night wasn't bad enough for the Reds, they next face the pitcher they can't seem to beat.

Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha, who will start Saturday's game in Cincinnati, dominates the Reds like no other NL starter, going 10-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 18 career games against them, including 16 starts. He's already 2-0 against them this season, beating them twice in an eight-day span in April.

Wacha is 7-1 with a 2.41 ERA overall this season, with his only loss coming back on March 31.

The Cardinals couldn't hold onto a 6-4 lead in the ninth inning Friday, but managed to win it in the 10th inning on Jedd Gyorko's RBI single. It gave St. Louis its 12th straight win against the Reds dating to last season.

The Cardinals needed to win Friday to stay three games back of the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers, who roughed up the Phillies 12-4.

"We've got to play good baseball regardless of who's on the other side," Gyorko said.

The Cardinals' success against the Reds is partly explained by Wacha's domination of them. He's 9-0 against them the past four seasons, and hasn't lost to them since Sept. 9, 2014.

"I don't know what it is," Wacha said after beating the Reds 4-2 on April 20. "I try not to think about who's out there. I'm just trying to tag every single team (I face)."

Wacha will be coming off the best start of what has been an All-Star-caliber season.

He took a no-hitter into the ninth inning Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, only to lose it on a Colin Moran line-drive single to right field -- on his 111th pitch of the day. Wacha then was lifted after striking out eight and walking two as St. Louis won, 5-0.

"He had it (a no-hitter) in his sights," manager Mike Matheny said. "(It was a) special day."

Every time Wacha opposes the Reds seems to be a special day, too, even though most of their top hitters own respectable numbers against him. Joey Votto is 13-for-36 (.361), Eugenio Suarez is 7-for-20 (.350) and Scooter Gennett is 10-for-31 (.323). Only Billy Hamilton (4-for-26, .154) struggles badly against him.

Wacha will oppose Reds right-hander Luis Castillo (4-6, 5.64 ERA), who is 0-2 in his career against the Cardinals, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs in 11 1/3 innings. Castillo yielded three runs and seven hits in five innings while taking the loss in an April 22 start against the Cardinals this season.

Castillo hopes he can continue his success against Cardinals first baseman Jose Martinez, who is 1-for-6 (.167) against him. Martinez hit two home runs Friday night off Reds starter Matt Harvey, giving him three homers in his last two games. Martinez, who is hitting .500 in his last six games overall, is 27-for-75 (.360) in his career against the Reds and 14-for-34 (.412) with three home runs and 12 RBIs this season.

Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman moved Scott Schebler to the leadoff spot and Jesse Winker to No. 6 in the order on Friday. He wanted to create more RBI opportunities for Winker, who hit a game-winning two-run homer in the 13th inning Thursday to beat the Colorado Rockies.

Schebler went 4-for-6 leading off, including a double in the 10th, and Winker hit a game-tying RBI single during the Reds' two-run rally in the ninth inning.

"I'm going to see if we can roll with this for a little bit," Riggleman said.

                STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTING PITCHERS

                Streaking:
Blake Snell, Tampa Bay Rays (7-3, 2.36 ERA, $115)

Snell might be the only thing the dozens of Rays fans in Tampa Bay have to cheer about these days. The club is 0-8 in its last eight games and 14.5 games back of the New York Yankees in the American League East standings.

But this young lefty is proving to be one for the future. Snell struck out 12 and allowed just two hits in six innings of work against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday and extended his streak of quality starts to four games. He owns a miniscule 0.51 ERA over his last three appearances and he hasn’t allowed a home run since the second week of May.

                Slumping:
Mike Minor, Texas Rangers (4-4, 5.76 ERA, $13)

Minor hasn’t produced a quality start in any of his last five appearances and the Rangers are 1-4 in those five games. Opponents are batting .303 against the 30-year-old lefty since his last start in April and he owns a 1.51 WHIP (walks + hits per inning) over his last seven starts.

                SATURDAY’S TOP TRENDS

*The Yankees are 8-1 in their last nine interleague games.
*The Mets are 3-14 in their last 17 games.

                WEATHER WATCH

                  • Lester, Cubs 1-hit Pirates for 11th win in 13 games
                    June 9, 2018

CHICAGO (AP) Jon Lester combined with two relievers on a one-hitter, and the Cubs took advantage of a first-inning slip by center fielder Starling Marte in a 2-0 victory Saturday over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago's 11th win in 13 games.

Lester (7-2) allowed a two-out triple in the third to Austin Meadows, then retired Starling Marte on a groundout. Lester struck out five and walked two in seven innings, improving to 5-1 in his past six starts.

Justin Wilson and Steve Cishek each pitched a perfect inning. Cishek got his second save as the Cubs remained a half-game behind NL Central-leading Milwaukee.

Nick Kingham (2-3) allowed both runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh lost for the sixth time in seven games and is 5-16 following a 26-17 start, losing seven straight series.

                    YANKEES 4, METS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Aaron Judge hit a tiebreaking drive in the eighth inning and the Yankees won a game of home run derby, beating the Mets for their sixth straight victory in the Subway Series.

Rookies Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar also homered at Citi Field, ensuring the Empire State Building would sparkle in Yankees team colors for 10 minutes after the win. The Yanks have won four in a row overall and nine of 10.

The Mets built a 3-0 lead on first-inning homers by Todd Frazier and Asdrubal Cabrera, but still lost their eighth in a row.

The Mets have dropped 10 straight at Citi Field, their worst skid at home since losing a team-record 15 at Shea Stadium in 2002.

Judge grounded out with the bases loaded to end the fifth but later sent the first pitch from Anthony Swarzak (0-1) into the left-field seats.

David Robertson (5-2) pitched a scoreless seventh and Dellin Betances, the only player in this Subway Series born in New York, struck out the side in the eighth. Aroldis Chapman, who has been bothered by tendinitis in his left knee, worked around two walks in the ninth for his 17th save in 18 chances.

                    BREWERS 12, PHILLIES 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ji-Man Choi hit a go-ahead, pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth inning, and Jesus Aguilar and Jonathan Villar also went deep in Milwaukee's victory over Philadelphia.

Aguilar also doubled and drove in three runs and Christian Yelich had three hits for the Brewers, who won their second straight over the Phillies while outscoring Philadelphia 24-7 to keep hold of first place in the NL Central.

Choi's homer made a winner out of Brent Suter (6-4), who allowed three runs on four hits in five innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

Rhys Hoskins returned from a nine-game absence because of a fractured jaw with a three-run homer for the slumping Phillies, who have lost four straight and 10 of 13.

Jake Arrieta (5-4) left with the bases loaded and a 3-2 lead but was tagged for the loss after Choi's hit, charged with five runs - four earned - in 5 1/3 innings.

                    DIAMONDBACKS 12, ROCKIES 7

DENVER (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt had his second straight two-homer game and drove in four runs, and Arizona took advantage of a double error by Brian Shaw to rally past Colorado.

Shaw (2-5) entered the game to protect a 7-6 lead and allowed six runs - only one of them earned - while getting just two outs before leaving to a chorus of boos and insults from the crowd of 43,000-plus.

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 - his fourth straight game with at least three hits - and has 16 hits in eight games in June after collecting 14 hits in 27 games in May. He hit his 11th and 12th long balls this season, both off Rockies starter Chad Bettis.

The Diamondbacks won their seventh straight game at Coors Field, a streak that dates to last June 21. Colorado has lost six straight at home overall.

Silvino Bracho (2-0) picked up the win, throwing a pair of 1-2-3 innings and striking out four in relief of starter Matt Koch.

                    NATIONALS 7, GIANTS 5

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bryce Harper hit his National League-leading 19th homer, and Washington beat San Francisco.

Harper's 437-foot blast to right-center came off reliever Ty Blach in the fourth inning.

Adam Eaton scored two runs in his return from the disabled list for Washington.

Giants catcher Nick Hundley hit a three-run homer into the San Francisco bullpen off Washington starter Gio Gonzalez in the third.

Justin Miller (3-0) retired all five batters he faced after replacing Gonzalez. Sean Doolittle earned his 16th save in 17 chances.

Dereck Rodriguez (1-1) allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings.

                    CARDINALS 6, REDS 4

CINCINNATI (AP) - Yadier Molina doubled with the bases loaded, and Michael Wacha pitched two-run ball into the sixth inning, leading St. Louis to its 13th straight win over Cincinnati.

The Cardinals also homered three times as they extended their second-longest streak of domination in a rivalry that goes back to the 1800s. They beat them 18 times in a row in 1930-31.

St. Louis has also won 11 straight in Cincinnati, its longest such streak since it first visited the city in 1892.

Wacha (8-1) gave up Eugenio Suarez's two-run homer in 5 2/3 innings for his 11th career win against the Reds.

Jordan Hicks gave up a single and fanned three in the ninth while getting his first career save in three chances.

Jose Martinez and Marcell Ozuna homered back-to-back in the first inning off Luis Castillo (4-7).

RED SOX 4, WHITE SOX 2

BOSTON (AP) - J.D. Martinez hit a tiebreaking two-run homer, David Price pitched six solid innings to win his fifth straight decision and Boston rebounded from a series-opening loss to beat Chicago.

Jackie Bradley Jr. added a solo shot for Boston, which avoided tying its season-high three-game losing streak.

Jose Abreu had an RBI double for the White Sox, who had won five of eight.

Price (7-4) held Chicago scoreless after allowing two runs in the first. He gave up five hits, struck out six and walked three, improving to 5-0 in his past six starts with a 2.89 ERA.

Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save.

                    ASTROS 4, RANGERS 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - George Springer hit a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning, and Houston overcame a wild start from Charlie Morton to beat Texas.

Morton tied an American League record with four hit batters and had a career-high six walks as the Astros allowed 10 walks, a season high. But the Rangers tied a club record with 17 runners left on base in a nine-inning game, most in the majors without extra innings this season.

Morton gave up two runs without allowing a hit in the second. The only hit he surrendered in 3 2/3 innings was a third-inning double from Ronald Guzman that didn't factor in the scoring.

Tony Sipp (1-0) struck out the first three hitters he faced in the sixth and seventh, and Hector Rondon got pinch-hitter Adrian Beltre to bounce into a game-ending double play for his second save.

Springer's go-ahead single landed just in front of a sprinting Joey Gallo in left field against Jose Leclerc (1-2) after Guzman's RBI single had pulled Texas even in the fifth.

                    ROYALS 2, ATHLETICS 0

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Danny Duffy pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, and Kansas City beat Oakland to snap a six-game skid.

Duffy (3-6) struck out a season-high 10 and walked three.

Chris Bassitt (0-1) also allowed three hits in seven innings in his first appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery on May 6, 2016. He struck out six and walked one, allowing one run - on Paulo Orlando's RBI single in the second inning.

The Royals scored again in the ninth on Alex Gordon's home run.

Kevin McCarthy pitched the eighth and Kelvin Herrera worked a scoreless ninth to complete the four-hitter and earn his 14th save in 15 opportunities.

                    ANGELS 2, TWINS 1

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Albert Pujols hit his 623rd career homer and tied Stan Musial for seventh on the career RBI list with 1,951, helping Los Angeles beat Minnesota after a four-hour rain delay.

Pujols' solo home run in the sixth proved to be the difference as Tyler Skaggs (5-4) allowed one run in seven innings and matched a season best with eight strikeouts.

Ian Kinsler had a solo home run for Los Angeles, his sixth in the past 11 games. Blake Parker recorded his seventh save for Los Angeles, which has won seven of its past eight games.

Kyle Gibson (1-4) allowed both home runs before completing seven innings. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five.

The rain delay was the second longest in Target Field history.

                    TIGERS 4, INDIANS 2, 12 INNINGS

DETROIT (AP) - Jeimer Candelario's two-run homer in the 12th inning gave Detroit the victory over Cleveland.

Miguel Cabrera singled off Cody Allen (2-3) with two outs, and Candelario drove a 2-0 pitch deep into the right-field stands for the first game-ending homer of his career.

Warwick Saupold (4-1) worked two scoreless innings of relief.

Tigers starter Mike Fiers allowed one run on five hits in seven innings, while Mike Clevinger gave up two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

                    BRAVES 5, DODGERS 3

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Freddie Freeman had three hits, Tyler Flowers drove in three runs and Atlanta beat Los Angeles.

Flowers had a two-run double in the third and an RBI single in the fifth that helped put Atlanta ahead 4-1 and chase starter Alex Wood (1-5). Charlie Culberson added three hits for Atlanta against his former team, and the Braves racked up 14 hits total.

Atlanta starter Anibal Sanchez (2-0) allowed two runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two. Arodys Vizcaino pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.

Max Muncy hit a solo home run to right field in the first inning for the Dodgers. It was Muncy's 11th home run and second in two games.

                    RAYS 7, MARINERS 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Blake Snell overcame occasional wildness to go six effective innings, and Tampa Bay stopped an eight-game losing streak by beating Felix Hernandez and Seattle.

Snell (8-3), who was born in Seattle, gave up two runs and seven hits. The left-hander walked two, recorded one strikeout, hit a batter and had two wild pitches.

Hernandez (6-5) allowed six runs and seven hits over three innings in his shortest start this season, a rematch of last Sunday's matchup against Snell and the Rays in Seattle.

Nelson Cruz hit a fifth-inning homer and Kyle Seager had a pair of RBI grounders for Seattle, which lost for just the fifth time in 21 games.

Chaz Roe, the second Rays reliever, went the final 1 1/3 innings for his first career save.

                    PADRES 5, MARLINS 4

MIAMI (AP) - Travis Jankowski hit a go-ahead bases-loaded single in the eighth inning to lift San Diego over Miami.

Jankowski hit a line drive with two outs off reliever Drew Rucinski (1-1) that scored Hunter Renfroe, who had reached on a two-out double and advanced following walks to Raffy Lopez and Matt Szczur.

Craig Stammen (4-0) allowed two inherited runners to score over 1 2/3 innings. Kirby Yates got his second save with a scoreless ninth, locking down San Diego's fifth win in six games.

The Marlins rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a three-run sixth that chased starter Tyson Ross.

                    BLUE JAYS 4, ORIOLES 3, 10 INNINGS

TORONTO (AP) - Luke Maile drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning, and Toronto beat Baltimore.

Maile walked on four pitches from Baltimore's Mychal Givens (0-2) to score Justin Smoak as the Blue Jays improved to 7-1 in extra innings.

Randal Grichuk homered and Yangervis Solarte had two hits and an RBI for Toronto, which is 5-1 against Baltimore this season.

John Axford (1-0) pitched two innings for the win.

The Orioles have lost three straight and 10 of 12. Baltimore is 9-26 on the road and 19-44 overall, both worst in the majors.

                          • Sunday’s 6-pack

Over/under win totals for college football this year:

                            Quote of the Day
“Championship teams, not just in our sport, but in other sports aren’t getting to celebrate in that way, something that has historically been apolitical in Washington, but I have to put it in the greater context of where we find our country. I would say though ultimately it saddens me because historically we’ve been able to use the NBA and all of sports to bring people together.”
                            NBA commissioner Adam Silver

Sunday’s List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud…..

                            13) The Stanley Cup goes all over the world once the finals are over; each player/coach gets it for a day and it can go anywhere. Giants-Nationals game was Saturday’s destination for the Cup, a game that for some reason started at noon. Capitals only have six American players, so the Cup’s passport is going to get a lot of business this summer.

                            12) Pretty soon I’ll write about my favorite baseball announcers, a longer article, but I’ll say here one of the very best analysts is Steve Stone of the White Sox. I could listen to him talk about pitching all day. Good natured, smart and not full of himself.

When he says before the pitch what that pitch should be, he is right an awful lot.

                            11) Astros 4, Rangers 3— Charlie Morton got 11 Rangers out in this game; he walked six and hit four others. No major league pitcher has ever hit five batters in a game.

                            10) Texas put 20 men on base, scored 3 runs; they were 1-17 with runners in scoring position.

                            9) Auburn made the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time in 15 years last season, so coach Bruce Pearl got a 5-year contract extension. The idea that the FBI has been investigating his program, and one of his assistants got arrested, apparently doesn’t matter.

                            8) Favorites have now won 11 of the last 18 Triple Crown horse races.

                            7) Still makes me shake my head that the quickest overtime TD in NFL history (0:11) was a TD pass from Tim Tebow to Demaryius Thomas, in a Bronco-Steeler playoff game in 2012.

                            6) Giants’ long snapper Zak DeOssie lost both his Super Bowl rings when he placed them on the roof of his car as he unlocked the car, then drove away with the rings still there.

One ring was recovered but was smashed; the other ring wasn’t found. Combined value? $34,000. Oy.

                            5) Why is Trayce Thompson in the major leagues? He can’t hit: last year, he hit .122 in 27 games with the Dodgers- he is hitting .126 in 125 PA’s this year.

In 2016, he hit .225 with 13 HR’s and we know he is Klay Thmpson’s brother, but he cannot hit and should be in AAA. Maybe when Avasail Garcia comes off the DL, he’ll get sent down.

                            4) Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) is on the 10-day DL.

Masahiro Tanaka (hamstring) also went on the DL.

                            3) Bad news for the Mets: Jay Bruce has one RBI in his last 97 plate appearances. Yoenis Cespedes left his rehab game in Trenton with more tightness in his quad.

                            2) Mets lost their last eight games; their starting pitchers’ ERA during that time is 2.16.

                            1) A federal court temporarily blocked a pizza delivery man’s deportation one week after he was turned over to immigration officials while trying to drop off food at a military base in New York.

The guy’s wife and two kids (one of whom is very sick) are American citizens; he’s lived here for over 10 years, and filed for his green card in February- he is waiting for a response.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo has gotten involved in all this; hopefully this guy can get his green card and have a decent life. We need all the pizza delivery guys we can get.

                            • LEADING OFF: Cards can't lose in Cincy, aces land on DL
                              June 9, 2018

A look at what's happening around the majors Sunday:

                              QUEEN CITY CRUSH

The Cardinals will try for their 14th consecutive win against the Reds, including their 12th straight in Cincinnati. It's St. Louis' second-longest streak of domination in a rivalry that dates to the 1800s - the Cards won 18 straight in 1930-31. Carlos Martinez (3-2, 1.82) will make his second start for St. Louis since returning from a strained muscle in his right side. He'll face Reds righty Anthony DeSclafani (0-1, 7.20).

                              ACES OUT

Two star pitchers were officially put on the disabled list Saturday: Washington's Stephen Strasburg and the Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka. Strasburg left a start Friday with shoulder inflammation and had an MRI Saturday that showed no further damage. Tanaka strained both hamstrings sprinting for home on a sacrifice fly in a Subway Series game at the Mets. Neither pitcher has a timetable for their return.

                              BRUISED BUEHLER

The Dodgers got encouraging news on starter Walker Buehler on Saturday, although they're still monitoring his health. Buehler was diagnosed with bruised ribs, but scans and X-rays showed no further damage after the rookie right-hander was lifted from a start Friday. He was hit by a line drive in the ribs nearly three weeks ago and had still been feeling ill-effects - including difficulty breathing. Buehler isn't sure if he'll require a DL stint. ''A timetable, right now, is really wide open because we don't want to jeopardize anything with his mechanics or anything to be compromised,'' manager Dave Roberts said.

                              BACK AT IT

J.D. Martinez has been hounded by back spasms over the past week, getting pulled from two games and sitting out Friday, but he felt good enough to hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in a win Saturday and should be back in the lineup Sunday. Martinez leads the majors with 21 homers and 54 RBIs, and teammate David Price thinks he's just getting started. ''I really don't feel like he's gotten that hot, as hot as I've seen him get,'' said Price, who played with Martinez in parts of the 2014 and `15 seasons. ''He can get hotter.''

                              NOTHING FREE

Corey Kluber hasn't walked a batter since May 8, a stretch of 33 1/3 innings, and he'll try to extend that run when Cleveland faces Detroit. Kluber is 4-0 with a 0.81 ERA over five starts during his walk-less streak, and he's struck out 38 in that span. The Tigers will counter with Artie Lewicki (0-1, 3.86) a day after winning on Jeimer Candelario's 12th-inning home run.
