Like I said, it's too bad that ESPN has overplayed this story so much. Hamilton didn't really ask for any of this hero talk, it's the media that took the story and ran like mad.

Exactly, that was my initial point...why start dogging on Hamilton he didnt ask for any of this...he is just happy he got his life back in order...this thread should have been what is wrong with ESPN for trying to make this ex crack addict a HERO...what am i missing with Hamilton, what ur missing is him having a great season, I personally have really enjoyed watching him play...his past has already gotten old because of ESPN...and lastly if you're letting ESPN chose your heroes then there is something wrong with you...use more sense than believing everything you see or hear on sports shows...
It is weak minded when you say fuck it and try it for the 1st time. Were you drug raped? Did someoneone hold you down and force crack down your lungs? If so i apologize but i'm guessing not ........
Everytime I snorted cocaine or smoked crack I was already drunk. The first time I did both I was drunk and everytime after that was aswell. (until towards the end when I was in full blown addiction that nothing could stop me) So yes in a sense I was not a right state of mind to intelligently deny the substance. It seemed normal with the wide spread amount of it amongst youth in my area.
No comparison Chad. Alcohol is LEGAL. Get educated.
The legality of it is completely irrelavant from the topic at hand. It is a mind altering substance that has the potential to ruin lives just like any drug if one should become addicted.
Crack is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet, alcohol is addictive, but its not crack. Also, alcohol is leagal, crack is not.
Big difference Chad
The legality is not the issue here. Some people whos drug of choice is alcohol will say that it is 100 times more addictive than crack to them. The opposite would apply to the contrary. It all in the discretion and preference of the user. It is a mind altering substance and when one becomes addicted it does not matter what the name of the chemical is.
Again im not arguing it one way or the other...but doesnt necessarily have to be illegal to be a bad addiction...arent pain killers legal and some people get addicted to those...eventually they will stop talking about Hamilton's past...if I remember correctly Favre at one point was addicted to pills or something...they used to pound that point as well when it was recent, but hardly hear anyone speak of it any longer...
Exactly...didnt read this post until after my previous responses...it is irrelevant....
Yes, but beer is staring you in the face everywhere like the store and fridge. You are either hanging with the wrong crowd or you have to go searching for crack. Unless of course he was drug raped and forced to do it. We also watch our parents and many others drink a beer and have no problems with it. Do you see that with crack?
Cocaine is just as readily available as alcohol. No difference for myself or any other alcoholic or addict to gain access to it. The availabilty does not change anything. Whatever you drug of choice maybe if you want it you can get it.
Horrible analogy with no relevance. That is like saying you like to have sex with young girls, and then equating sex a 23 year old girl and a sex with a 13 year old girl. One is legal, and one you know can ruin your life. If you choose to do it, take responsibility when it fucks your life.
"horrible analogy with no relevance"
Anyone who has been through alcohol or drug addiction either indirectly or directly will tell you my post was a great analogy and holds crucial relevance.
Whether it is legal or not is not an issue whatsoever. Most people who started drinking alcohol did it under illegal pretenses under the age of 21 anwyay.
Your example of having sex with a 23 year old and 13 year old is "horrible analogy with no relevance" and doesnt even make sense IMO...
When your addicted its too late. The outcome prior to it is unknown. Please re-read what I have previously stated throughout this thread. When one first experiments with alcohol in high school or college some become recreational drinkers and others may become alcoholics. THEY DO NOT KNOW THE LONG TERM OUTCOME. Of course you can say well if what we know nowadays that could potentially happen as if anyone having their first beer says I will become an alcoholic no they dont cause everyone thinks that cant happen to me. I dont know how I can possibly re-iterate that in any other way to you. But like I said before I hold nothing against you as you cannot relate on a personal level to the subject.
It is also still a horrible analogy b/c crack is so far removed from alcohol they don't compare. The vast majority of people that drink (underage or not) don't get addicted. I would argue that the majority of people that take crack do get addicted, b/c it is infinitely more addictive, and everyone knows how addictive it is.
I know plenty of people that have used cocaine and crack without getting addicted. No comparsion and completely irrelvant once again. Its ALL THE SAME WHETHER LEGAL OR NOT, NOBODY KNOWS THE OUTCOME GOING IN, NOBODY EXPECTS TO BECOME ADDICTED, AND NOBODY WANTS FOR THIS TO HAPPEN REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT MAY BE. How can I re-iterate this to you any further???????? And this is all based on personal experiences and what I have witnessed amongst several samples of situations to back this up.
It has nothing to do with being weak minded at all...that shows that you are uniformed about this disease by that comment in itself...but then again its ok cause I would not expect yourself or anyone who has not been fully affected by it to be fully aware...
Chado,
Sorry but this addiction is not a disease IMO.
Government (State of MD) employees can get on disability for having a "disease" like alcoholism, drug addictions. They cannot be fired for having this "disease". All the Mental health lobbies have seen to it that these diseases are publicly funded for treatment. Taxpayer funded partyime.
I have just found a miracle cure for these diseases: JUST SAY NO!

Don't bother trying. Chad had no part in his own addiction. Just listen to him. It was not his choice to use, he was drug raped.

It actually has been labelled a disease. This is not my opinion it is called this now. I hear it all the time in meetings and from everything I have learned. It is even outlined a disease in both fellowships and the program of NA and AA and I believe by National Medical Associations.
