  • Bard had a horrible stretch and his ERA is STILL only 3.21 ........... That shows how fuckin good he was ALL YEAR giz but don't let reality cloud the facts for you.

    • Gizmo the reason people don't blame Bard is that for the better part of four months he didn't give up a run. All his bad outings were at the start of the year and unfortunately recently. Bard is not a problem on this team

      • Bard had a stretch of 46 games where he didn't give up a run in 42 of them, including 25 straight. We have the lead we have in part because of Bard, not in spite of him. I can't argue about a team with somebody who has no fuckin clue what they are about. You may know something about baseball but you are fuckin clueless when it comes to this team giz.

        • How many times do I have to say RUN SUPPORT WHO GIVES A FUCK UNLESS YOU ARE WINNING 10-9 ,I just showed you his ERA in his wins and 6 losses and it was not the run support being the reason they won so stop saying it is .

I dont give a shit that they score alot in his starts unless they win those games for him which they either didnt do or didnt need to do.

Also Bard in the last 8 games he pitched in the Red Sox are 1-7 he is 0-4 with a ERA of over 12 and a whip of 1.75.

I also understand how good he was mostly June and July but if you want to look the other way on him thats up to you.I am saying you cant have your setup guy do this.

          • May, June, July, August. All his bad outings this year were the first week of the season and 4 out of the 5 times he pitched this month, Prior to that he was dominant most of the year

            • Go check David Robertson thats dominant,I think he should be 2nd in cy young voting.

Bard in May his ERA was 3.43 and August it was 3.27 that to me isnt dominant maybe for you it is.

And he is pitching in games with ALL THIS RUN SUPPORT 6-1, 9-4 ,10-5 thats not pressure. Maybe its Francona than over using him now that I am looking at some of the games he pitched in.It is only his 3rd year and maybe last year 70 + and this year has given him tired arm.

                • not to bust your balls diesel but how come its about the #s for some peoples ERA and WHIP but not about #s when they are someone elses.

Any way its been fun and I dont even know if I want them in or out of playoffs.

I still think that what I said in my first post of this thread is correct and can not believe how many posts there have been about this topic.

I will be waiting in the playoffs for you if you make it and tonight you better hope that rookie Moore for TB isnt all he is cracked up to be because the Yankees r not putting out the A team tonight.

                  • I could care less who the Yankees have in the lineup. The Red Sox need to win some games at minimum 3 to 4 of the remaining games. If they can't do that they need to go home Final statement giz is that if you really are comparing the seasons of Bard and Lackey Wayne is right you don't have a clue

                    • And this is what I was told by one of my favorite coaches. Be Humble, thank everyone you can and be polite because you never know who is watching or listening, respect your opponent always and never show anyone up,play hard and you better fucking hustle on every play because someone else not playing would love to get his chance.

But I quess that how sox fans do it they put people down and call people names.I never compared Bard and Lackey either but you think what you want.

                      Done with this thread.

Yeah you really can't compare Lackey and Bard.
It is unfortunate Bard hasn't got it done of late in important games, but please as you say, Bard turned in many great performances and is one of the reasons they had the record they had before the losing streak started ,whereas, well to correct Wayne slightly, Lackey's bad outings started in April of LAST year and have continued through the present.
I wonder what lackey would get today if he had signed a two year contract with the sox which ended in this month and was onced again a FA.
Lets just say that I think whoever his agent is would probably have to literally point a gun at another GM's team to take him off of the Sox hands at any cost.
In short, who wants a pitcher who has one of the worst eras in recent history, blames/has berated his teammates for his own incompetency, shows up his manager, is incredibly stupid when asked questions and who in general in the eyes of many including me, brings nothing but bad, bad karma to the table?

                          • Other than Barry Zito, is Lackey the most overpaid MLB player? That contract was/is awful...dude is terrible.

                            • Wins for a pitcher is a terrible barometer of how good that pitcher is. Anyone who defends a pitcher based on wins really has no clue about baseball.

                              • Let me jump in. I love getting to parties late.

Boston is the only top team in baseball with weak starting pitching. They've overcome it with their offense and Papelbohn.

In fact, pitching in baseball has been very good this year. Milwaukee is where they are because they have four outstanding starters. SF's pitching kept them alive despite one of the worst offenses in memory.

Phila's pitching staff is as good as any in the history of the game. (lee, Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt and Worley---as good a starting five as I can recall).

Detroit's pitching is very good and Verlander is a freak.

Boston made a grave error in not finding another starter.

BUT.....you Red Sox guys are way too negative. They are still better than 50-50 to make the playoffs. If they get there, anything can happen.

Sometimes fans of strong, but underachieving, teams take success for granted. How'd you like to live in Pittsburgh?

                                Or Chicago?

                                Or Seattle?

                                Or be a Mets fan?

You guys are in a pennant race. Try to enjoy it.
