    I'll take that bet.

mavs, Those kids are not going to Memphis because Memphis is where they want to play. If they were, they wouldn't care who the coach was. They chose Memphis because they wanted to play for Calipari, plain & simple. If he wasn't there, they wouldn't be Memphis recruits any way. If anything, blame the recruits, not Calipari. It's their choice.

However, the money thing is not completely accurate. The money these sports programs make, is actually helping to fund the academics. They may pay $5 million for Calipari and another millions here there and everywhere, but they make a lot more than they spend, especially a high-standing program like UK. It's something you can look at as stupid but in the end these programs make the school money, not cost them money. Know what I mean Savage?
Ok-then I will amend what I said by saying that the monies derived by paying Calipari his exorbitant salary should be used entirely for promoting higher learning, research, etc. which is supposed to be the chief reason for the existence of colleges and universities in the first place.
Aside from that and strictly from a philosophical point of view, I don't think relatively speaking, that any college coach in any sport is worth 5 million a year in terms of the importance of what he does.

In any case I think the situation is sad-I thought the main reason and emphasis for colleges and universities was for higher learning and excellence as opposed to trying to achieve becoming the number one team in basketball or football by any means.
Something seems out of line in these troubled economic times when a school will pay a basketball coach(which is about a four month job) $5 million year to stand on the sidelines and make decisions related to winning a basketball game as well as trying to get others to come to the school who will also help the team win more basketball games.
With priorities like this, it is no wonder that out society is in a sad state of decline.

He'd be taking a better job with more resources and it's a business - plan and simple!

Starters coming back isn't always a great thing. Yes, they have some talent there but adding the best and 4th best High School player in America will help. It will give them a ton of depth and talent.

Anyone close to Kentucky hear if Ashley Judd is done with her multiple orgasms from this news?
